>What the heck is this
/indie/ is the general for all indie games, such as Age of Decadence, A Hat in Time, Axiom Verge, Baba Is You, Battle Brothers, Card City Nights 2, Cave Story, Civilization, CrossCode, Cultist Simulator, Darkest Dungeon, Darkwood, DashBored, Dead Cells, The Desolate Hope, Disco Elysium, Environmental Station Alpha, FTL, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Knytt, LISA, Lobotomy Corp, Loop Hero, Machinarium, Middens, Monolith, Monster Train, Noita, OFF, OneShot, Rimworld, Rain World, Slay the Spire, Starsector, Subnautica, Sunless Skies, Underrail, VA-11 HALL-A, Yume Nikki, etc., as well as other games that just don't fit in any other general such as Atelier, Pillars of Eternity, Rayman, and Valkyria Chronicles. /jrpg/ is welcome. Idle, roguelite, shmup, 4x / RTS / city-builders, and RPGMaker games are cool too.

Mobile or consoles, Flash or Unity, freeware or early access. This place is a home for the indie game community and indie and obscure games that don't have a home. So be free to talk and share all your hidden gems, forgotten games and starving devs here.

>Can I talk about games that already have a general?
We mostly discuss games that are not popular enough for their own threads, however, all indie games are allowed. So talk about them if you want, but don't overdo it since you already have other generals for that.

>Tbh on the other hand nothing but the original soundtrack will probably do it justice.
This. It's a losing battle no matter how you slice it, because OFF lives and dies by its music. The remaster really should've been cancelled once they couldn't get ACC to sign on, the only redeeming quality is if they come up with an actually fun combat loop replacement (unlikely, will probably stay the same generic RPGMaker atbslop, just with """balanced""" stats).

Now that Ubisoft is going to shit I decided to pirate and play some older ubisoft games when they were still good. I'm playing Far Cry 3 and having some fun with it so far. I know it's not "Indie" but I'm saying this as the "Misc. Games" part.

Mortal shell is the opposite of a FromSoft. It's only on the surface with graphics and the most basic mechanics.
You don't have character builds besides pre-selected ones you "fill out." That's your "shell"- you are a spirit inhabiting a dead hero. You have to find them first, as well, and they're all hyper specific builds and you only unlock sidegrades, half of which aren't unique to one shell. There are no stats to buff.
Swapping weapons in the field takes a consumable item you have to pay for from vendors.
The item system is kind of neat- you have to use them multiple times to unlock their potential and discover lore about them.
The healing is counter-intuitive. you get an object that lets you counter attack. You have to land this counter-attack while it's charged, with "resolve" (mana), to heal. Resolve drains when you are hit, you start out with zero unless you use a shell that has the skill unlocked (there's only one of these). Meaning if you die, you have to build your resolve back up, and if you get hit, you lose healing charges. If you try and miss the parry, you lose the resolve from getting hit. Imagine starting with zero flasks on each run, they only refill by dealing damage, they break when you get hurt, and they only work if you land a parry. Some enemies, you can't parry.
Consumable healing items that drop in the game drain your resolve past what resolve restorers do. Items that increase your resolve drain your health past what the healing items do. You can buy neither; they are random drops.
There's little to no fast travel. Checkpoints are at area openings, which is where you can respawn, but they set your teleport point there so you can't fast travel back to the hub. You have to walk the zone back. If I remember properly it also takes consumables.
Skills, which are attached only to weapons, require a part for that weapon to be located and installed at the main hub. this takes varying amounts of resolve to activate as well.
>>
>>520418307
i didnt have explosion immunity, the reason i didnt die was extra life

>they only work if you land a parry. Some enemies, you can't parry.
Yes, fuck this.
>>
>>520416109
I'm not sure about Miyazaki's cum garglers think about it, but from what I heard it and seen on streams back when it released it did look like a solid game, but still a B tier soulslike just like a fair share of others from its "genre". My point is "Yeah, I'm hearing the same as you", which is not much, but a different person hearing the same stuff nonetheless, for whatever that may be worth to you.
>>
>>520418991
oh, and swapping weapons requires the specific item for the specific weapon, each one is a different consumable you have to buy separately.
The only cool thing is to get a weapon, you have to fight an NPC using it, so you have to learn the weapon's combo's by facing it.
>>
>>520418991
>There's little to no fast travel. Checkpoints are at area openings, which is where you can respawn, but they set your teleport point there so you can't fast travel back to the hub. You have to walk the zone back. If I remember properly it also takes consumables.
Damn anon good write up. However, that part instantly bugged me. Is this going to be an issue later on because one of the the few things I genuinely hate is wasting time aka backtracking.

I keep remember awful shit.
The bonfires don't restore HP or resolve when you activate them. They're just respawn markers.
Resolve isn't a flat bar. It builds in sections, of which different shells have different amounts of. If you don't fill up a section, it drains to the last section you filled. If you didn't fill one, it just drains completely. If you get hit, it will knock off points off a section you did fill, and start draining that one. If you want a healing charge, you have to speed-run the area without getting hit, making the healing charge pointless.

The answer is highly dependent on what you look for in a soulslike (level design, combat, build variety, multiplayer, etc), but AI Limit is very good, and outside the indie space Lies of P is great.
>>520416109
They don't like that it has easy mode, because how someone else plays a single-player game will surely affect your enjoyment of it
>>
>>520410634
Bad characters and a story everyone hates.
The gameplay itself is likely average, not horrible. But ubisoft can't afford average right now, they're a couple billion dollars too far in debt to be sabotaging their games for the sake of unpopular politics.
The game underperformed by a couple orders of magnitude compared to what ubisoft expected and needed.

been playing Wizard of Legend. Got it for free so decided to try it.

partially soulslike stuff. Really dumb execution on some things though. Everything can cause a flinch, your dodge doesn't necessarily have I-frames (there's different dodges, they're all spells), so the most dangerous enemies in the game are horde-types of 4-5 that get out of attack sequence. You get flinchlocked to death by weak ass little shits, so it degrades into kiting and who hits first. Especially bad with the wind archers, they multi-hit and lock you down for everyone else to beat on. You can't get spells you want because they're gated behind "pools," you have to purchase at least half of the combined other unlocked pools just to have a chance they drop at the shop. Dodges come with extra effects, but those effects have stacks, and you can't control those, and there's a bunch of pits everywhere you have to dash over so you just kind of blow the charge and rush headlong into fights without it. Really weird decisions all around.

Don't worry about wizard of legend, you unlock (more or less mandatory) QOL items and capes that makes 1-shot impossible. Apparently getting stunlocked to death is an intentional design mechanic because the game was too easy during testing. Later enemies will always stunlock you to death from full health no matter what. The only way around it is pure dodge builds.

My problems are: 80% of the stations are straight up empty except for the ones related to the main quest, sometimes when i close the trader menu on stations i get stuck with no way to move the mouse and i have to open another menu to get control again, sometimes there are invisible walls in the stations that stop me from walking around, i can track only one mission at time so to plan the shortest route for 3 missions i have to constantly switch between the map and the mission menu, when i take certain type of missions i can't check from the mission board where they take place in specific and also can't check the map at the same time (if i close the board and check the map the mission reshuffles), every time i enter a leyline with high engines i exit them at low speed which forces me to immediately double tap AGAIN to speed up, even after changing the setting for text speed i have barely enough time to read some of the more wordy cutscenes dialogues, stations use ambient music shared with the "space exploration" part of the game instead of having their own music folder.
To name a few.

The Master Rounds you get for beating bosses without getting hit gives you extra health slots, which is kind of dumb, rewarding you with thing you would not need in first place.
Super Meat Gun, the red blocky gun that shoots saw blades, also gives one health slot AND increased running speed. Because it's meat and I guess Super Meat Boy runs really fast.

After playing a lot of the surge I noticed it suffered a lot from enemies that did gigantic undertelegraphed lunges. The telegraphing in general for those games was sub-optimal.
In lords of the fallen the problem was mainly bad hitboxes and unreasonably small attack windows.
In drova it's enemies that constantly throw out attacks that require you to dodge more times than your stamina allows.
Honestly the only main line souls games that felt frustrating and often unfair were demons souls and dark souls 2. I specifically remember ornstein and smough being complete pushovers for me compared to what people were memeing them as.
The element of surprise for most ambushes in those games is completely negated by
A: looking at the ceiling before you enter the room
B: looking around the corners before you enter the room
Drova's the first one I've played that has genuinely unfair ambushes because it has an enemy that lunges at you from beyond the screen border, with an extremely inconsistent agro range, no sound cue and effectively no time to react.

Ghost of Tsushima was way more up my alley.

Yeah I remember that quest. Despite being the best or should I say least bad in the series at it, combat still isn't the strong suit of this game in my opinion.

I don't know how people get immersed in a game where a few levels of difference might as well be a cliff. Especially when you're supposed to be free to explore but you get one tapped the moment you wander in an area overlevelled, and one tap mobs if they're even a little underlevelled.
But then, I hated everyone in here and wanted them all to die, so more power to you.

Is it though? I remember on one of my playthroughs I did the regions in mixed order and it was mostly fine after the first handful of quests and even right now I'm doing quite a few quests that are 5-10 levels above me and it doesn't seem like a big problem (on highest difficulty)
But I do agree the leveling balance is kinda funky, it's always a huge letdown when a quest reward is way worse than what you already have. And I know at least of one quest where it seems physically impossible to start it while not being overleveled for it.
>>
>>520521849
>when you're supposed to be free to explore but you get one tapped the moment you wander in an area overlevelled
Those things aren't mutually exclusive.
Freedom to explore doesn't mean the game never puts you in danger.

Remember a lot of these games take inspiration from old D&D which was also very deadly, dark, and gritty at the time. Like D&D, when people play a game they want to feel the world push back on them when they push, if the game gives way every time, all the time, it's not a very good or interesting game is it? While people don't want games hard as tits to play, they do want a reactive world and you aren't going to get that if you're level one and just demolishing everything. At that point its a power fantasy and that kind of content fizzles out very quickly if you aren't at least matched or challenged a handful of times.

Both types of abyss enemies make extensive use of emp and other effects that proc from impacting hull, so high tech is preferred but midline can handle it alright. Fighters and destroyers are definitely very useful to fight the demons too. They all try to kite with dash abilities and being able to chase down/bomber strike the eyes is key to removing their fleet's DPS. Longbow spam is amazing for that. A hammerhead can take on a tendril if it has a full kinetic loadout and isn't flanked

The problem is the level scaling is entirely artificial. If the same nekker is either incapable of scratching you, a normal enemy, or invincible based entirely on where you find it on the map, then it completely kills the immersion. And why do mundane swords come in fucking color-graded rarities that somehow translate in higher stats (not to mention late game gear dwarfs early one despite not being special or enchanter by any artisan) then?
Old D&D is a horrible inspiration to draw from because you know what it had? A gamemaster adjusting variables on the fly based on group power levels, and a group of friends to laugh when you stick your dick in a trap like a retard, plus the option to easily switch characters (again, via the DM) with secondary character sheets that then get integrated into the story if your DM is any good. Sure you can sign up for the Tomb of Horrors and get your teeth kicked in, but you know what you're in for then.
Witcher 3 opens with the super-special trial of the grasses survivor taking a bath with his pals and a flashback to his not-daughter while fucking at least three different super special magic users and being on first name basis with half the nobility. It's a power fantasy to the point pic-related is legit. Getting one-tapped by a mob in the overworld or unable to scratch a quest boss because you went into a cave without looking at the "YOU MUST BE THIS HIGH LEVEL TO RIDE" SIGN" completely takes you out of it into "Oh yeah, this is a video game with bugs and bullshots and transparently artificial not-walls".

Besides that, I also use a lot of carriers and fighters in my fleets usually, would a fighter strike work against an Eye, or would the death beam shoot down the bombers before they could get close enough to fire their payload on it?

Started this indie Jap game that has Yoshimasa Hosoya and Aoi Yuuki voicing the two main characters. Technically speaking it's very poorly made, with no graphical settings at all. Even worse, the framerate is capped at 30fps and there's ugly motion blur slapped over everything. So far it's got pretty cool music and nice level design though, with solid mechanics. You control this invincible alien golem and protect the alien girl, who isn't invincible. When you let the girl walk on her own, you're able to attack with both of your arms, the arms themselves being weapons you switch between for different purposes. But when you carry the girl, you can only attack with one arm (webm related). Carrying her will regenerate any health she lost. And if you carry her while enemies are still around, they'll use attacks to drop her from your hand--which you can protect against by activating your force field bubble. Besides combat, there's also basic platforming which feels like shit, exploration with collectible lore, and some typical pressure plate level design where you have to leave the girl behind to keep a door open. But it's all been well-thought out and varied. There's even an on-rail shooter section.

Aesthetic is alright but it's yet another fishing village cult for Cthulu, and most of the power-ups feel worthless until you dump levels into them, which means you can't dump them into upgrading your guns. Shotguns feel okay, but using them is a PITA because ammo's rarer than it should be. Bad shotties in a retro FPS don't bode well.

Decided to try Darkest Files despite initial doubts. Doubts validated because it's everything I thought it would be, deeply mediocre, heavily on-rail and simple case work, annoyingly Jewish writing. you earn the freemium mtx dust shit from chests and you get chests for winning ranked runs
basically git gud and you can have them all for free, you only have to pay if you want everything up front

the thing people were complaining about was the dlc pack shit they were hiding behind the battlepass, and they flushed that as of the new patch, you get it all as long as you own the character

Funny how I've played CS and BoH to completion and I4m not closer to understanding the lore.
At least CS had the excuse of being all about you bumbling and fumbling your way through the occult but with BoH I feel that I should be a lot more knowledge, and yet it's still all a big mess.
I wish they made a game that's more focused on a specific piece of lore instead.

long distance cast -> spark bolt w/ timer
divide chained mu -> ball lightning
wand refresh
and the rest is modifiers... projectile area teleport + orbit larpa + chain spell gives you 3x4x5 lightning balls detonating right on target before any divides. i like the way it works and looks

now, what modifiers would be the best for getting extreme damage out of this?

maybe something like water for the ball lightning and adding 10x crit on wet modifiers?
with divide by 800 mu, that'd be 800000% crit or 40000x damage multiplier
and of course you'd have 16000 lightning balls instead of 60
the lag might get pretty bad though
without any other damage modifiers that'd be like uhh 8 billion electric damage and half of that as explosive

i think the noitautism finally got to me

just so it happens that I am also playing CT! And also it happens that I haven't beaten this game in many years so I am not 100% sure.

i believe there is a way to go back after beating the first part of lavos, with a blue portal or something. The final boss actually has multiple phases and after the first part you have a break to walk around and the game gives you a save point and a way to go back.

The first part, if I remember correctly, is mostly lavos mimicking all the main bosses of the game.

I played hellpoint from start to finish, and I both loved and hated it. Clunky animation, questionable boss design (ie that one alien thing in arcology underground), but it does have splitscreen co-op which make it a pretty nice game, one of the few I can play with my nephew.

Speaking of other game more fitting of this thread, I just finished Drova and while I loved the game overall, FUCK the fight against the two golems and an army of remnant, this was pure fucking cancer and a letter you find bait you into thinking its the way to go when its actually a purely optional fight. Like already that the golems hit like a truck, spam spells and there are 2 of them at the same time, there id also between 4 to 7 remnant who respawn 3 time total during the fight. God this was so fucking stupid, the entire game you basically learn to fight against 1 to 3 enemies top, then bam youre facing a whole army by yourself, it aint fun trying to dodge 4 mages doing aoe spells at the same time.

note that the water doesn't really do anything, it's just stored there.
it's not triggered by the triplicate bolt so it slowly sprays a short distance from minä and rarely hits any mobs.

wand updated, at holy mountain after the vault.
i didn't exactly find add trigger but add expiration trigger will do.

it's getting a little complicated so bear with me.

first there's quadruple multicast to cast the 4 triplicate bolts.
then there's add expiration trigger, which does nothing to the modifers and adds trigger to the first projectile spell it sees making in trigger the next spell, water.
the first group of modifiers is bunch of random damage buffs, second is utility, and third is speedbuffs to cope with the slow-ass wand and slow-ass spells.
pretty basic stuff right?

now the interesting bit is this:
why are the modifiers between add expiration trigger and the multicasted spells instead of outside the multicast to apply to the multicast? well, this way they also get applied to every spell in the multicast... but for free. im gonna eventually need a better suited wand for this with less mana and more speed.

The thing I disliked the most in the fighting is how you're limited to 3 dodge in a row, and get a cooldown if you use them, but you have enemies that can attack 4 or even 5 times in a row, or have like 3 guys attack you at the same time. Its why I absolutely hated the 2 golem fights I spoke of earlier, the only actual solution is to cheese it up which is really bad design imo, even for an optional fight meant to be difficult.

>Haste: Broken Worlds

Pro; Gameplay is actually fun, feel like the lovechild of 3d sonic games if they were good and Tribes skiing mechanic. But ill admit its annoying how unclear and counterintuitive it is which landing are going to be perfect or ok/bad, as you're penalized for it since its always a race against time and these slow you down a lot. Like landing on a flat surface is considered perfect but landing on a downward slope seem like its a coinflip between good or perfect, its weird.
Av2gm
Cons; character design and writing scream of DEI, especially the Captain who look like an flamboyant homosexual stereotype to the point it could pass as satire. Whenever I see him on screen im annoyed, that pink eye shadow is an eyesore.

Tried playing Wizardry 8, my first one. It's a fun game and the mechanics are pretty cool, but I simply can't stand the high amount of enemies. Yes, I was using the Wiz8fast at 600x movement speed right after experiencing the default speed on my first battle. You always had to make sure there was only 1 pack of enemies around, which even then was a little slow. Running away from enemies was a slog. There are some choke points full of enemy packs that you simply can't avoid without running while in combat mode, if even that. Spell casting resources are somewhat scarce early on, which leads you to wanting to Camp more, but camping means enemy respawn getting in the way of your comfy exploration. Moving in combat means your party's turn will be reduced to that of the slowest member, but yet it's so easy to be out of melee range unless you use a spear or something with long or extended range. Targetting priority sucks and will break CC on multiple enemies after the current target dies on the default combat mode, but the alternative combat mode seems like too much annoying micromanaging (didn't give a try to be honest).
All in all just a bunch of annoying and slog stuff for a combat that boils down to standard buff + debuff/CC + attacks with different amounts of resource costs, which I can get in plenty of other games without the downsides that Wiz8 has. That said, I have high respect for the game and can easily understand why someone would be a fan, or even a cultist, of the series.

What carries HK is artstyle and amount of content. Pretty hard to fuck up. Just like Souls slop are carried by level design and visual presentation of it + amount of content, once again pretty hard to fuck it up unless the key people in charge of those two elements leave. Combat is pretty basic and traversal movement skills are nonexistent on HK, so even less things to fail, although I vaguely remember some statement about them wanting Silk-chan to have some mobile gameplay.

>>
>>520871908
I don't know how far you are into the game so I don't want to spoil anything but its funny that you got killed specifically by that entity.
>>
>>520872070
I went up to day 30 in my previous save to unlock sandbox, but did practically zero exploration. I didn't even discover all the mannequins at Uniform until after the treehouse was built.
>>
>>520872910
Oh, then that isn't even scratching the surface of the things you'll experience then, comparatively that is more on the normal side. Keep playing, have fun, good luck, and be "cautiously curious".

>>
>>520873097
That game came out of Sunless Sea though, and yeah the weird woke shit about sexuality and women dressing like men and men dressing like women in a dark and dreary Victorian London that sunk into an underground sea is a bit on the retarded side. I get that the dev was trying to have their cake and eat it too by maybe trying to "unsettle you" by doing stuff like that, but it isn't unsettling, it's just forced. The Silence of the Lambs murdering transvestite, now that's unsettling... Well... Way less so now than back then but you know; I'd still be on edge if I shared a room with that man.
>>
>>520873097
>tiny bit
>>
>>520873580
>That game came out of Sunless Sea though
Starsector came out first but literally no one knew about it and this game had a pretty good artist and writer behind it and they checked all the political boxes so the game journalists chose this over an actual game. Nothing new.
>>
>>520873097
What's funny is that if there was a setting to put in the gay stuff, Starsector would be it. They could have even gone the extra mile of keeping a lid on the tranny shit till later when the more Cthulhu elements occur, but nope.
>>
>>520874047
People would complain but have a terrorist or terror-like faction that was just as radical as the Luddic Path but the opposite direction would have been pretty cool to have in my opinion, but then that is maybe getting a bit too political? I got banned in Starsector RP channel when I called openly gay and trans characters in the game abominations.

She and one of her friends made it together, I think she mainly does the art. The best part about it for me is the music and feeling like I am playing a retro game. I wish the stages were longer though.

was talking to a friend of mine that only played nuqud how It's absolutely crazy how old qud (free game made as a hobby by one dude with DF's tileset and with dying earth/BoTNS influences) completely got overturned into "some dude's artsy fartsy tubmlr lgbt++ game" the moment they started to get monetized and changed devteam

It's such a shame that the game became mechanically more complex and interesting and polished, because the original had a very interesting setting, but piss poor mechanics, the current iteration has the most retarded setting with echoes of its origin, but interesting mechanics

I can't really find a reason to play old qud because it was basically whalescata tier of jank and had savegames baloon in the hundreds of megs by default in the earlygame, but it's a shame what happened to it

I don't even know if you can find the free version anywhere but on the internet archive

>>
>>520829907
So after playing a tad more, id say my early critic of DEI influence may have been somewhat exagerrated, but I still despise the captain visual design. Gameplay is still as solid, but the random procgen levels can be a real pain in the ass at times due to rng like object clutter or damaging traps being placed in a position that screw you over (at shard 7 atm and the only times I tend to die or even get hit is with bullshit terrain placement or at bosses, which become stupidly insane by the last 3 shards, like honestly its basically bullethell territory). Overall its a pretty good game id recommend, but there are still some jank and bugs that will probably get polished out sooner than later, also I hope they work out the item balance a bit more because way too many of them are literally useless.

I want to love noita, put like 20 hours into noita over the years but I just can't get in to it enough to finish it
I think my problem is that there's a bunch of annoying things you have to do to get a run going, yet basically zero defensive scaling. So you can spend an hour getting a good run going just to have the quirky physics set off a nuke next to you and instantly trash all of your work

there are no such physics

but you should consider using teleport/long-distance cast or similar utility when casting payloads that can kill you
triggers/timers can hit a smoke pixel in the air, and such pixels constantly emanate from wands with certain fiery/explosive spells

You can TRAIN your own volition.
The brain can be trained the same way muscles can. You start small. You increment the load. You do it regularly. You allow yourself rest days.
People say "I have a bad memory", but that's misleading. The brain develops the parts you use and shelves the parts you don't. It's known and accepted for muscle memory: If you play a bunch of noita, you're gonna get better at throwing objects (in the game and against your walls). But muscle memory isn't in your muscles, it's in your brain. And the brain also handles memory, decision making, enacting a wish, facing resistance. All of these can be developed.

nah they're quite safe, especially the orbit version that doesn't return to you.
i used a giga disc shotgun early on in my current run and never did more than 400 damage to myself in one click which means it is *very* safe in terms of noita and spinning sawblades.
all of that was entirely self-caused and preventable (bad homing) but i just didnt care because i already had a simple infinite heal

Good long stabbing weapons are ridiculous. Stabs in general are just way better than slashes. Axes are the only good "slashing" weapons because they effectively stab on contact.
It's so much easier to use a spear than other weapons, but that does mirror real life.

Blunt weapons in this game are most effective against unarmored opponents, bladed weapons are vastly more effective against unarmored opponents.
A good stab will kill them far faster than wailing on them with blunt weapons, certain bladed weapons pierce armor.
Most of the outright deaths of heavily armored opponents I witnessed were from axe blows instantly taking limbs or heads.

>>
>>521116809
And I don't mean 6 gorillion damage record setters but a practical and versatile wand.

Teleport, healing and digging roles merge nicely into one wand but I've started to develop a pattern of using two damage wands.
One for general AOE room clearing and another for surgically sniping masters through walls.
Those roles definitely should be compresseable into one wand (especially with hotswapping some spell components) but I haven't found a setup that I like yet.

What's YOUR idea of a fun to use damage wand?

Rocks with homing and traverse (cant remember the actual name atm) or eat ground, its always hilarious watching unaware enemies get obliterated by a rock going at mach 2, also because its a rock its considered accidental death so you get loads of dosh.

>>
>>521126238
Never played it so I cant say, but its an arcady beat em all in an open world with occasional rts segment where you can go into the battlefield to personally support your troops. Biggest point imo id say is the character design which is top notch, and the ton of cameos if you're into classic metal music.
>>
>>521126952
>Never played it
You walk around, find mana geysers, build manalith on them to hog it for yourself, and then use mana to summon creatures that obey your every whim and fetish.

I tried it. Not a whole lot of substance, even for a beta, but it's fun. If they make actually swinging less jank and give it multiplayer it could go places.
>>
>>521095545
It was from before the team sold out to the DEI crap, and that massive scam that was "Fig" I think. Jack Black included. The majority of the jokes are now likely no-touch offensive for them now. Also includes a bunch of mix tapes of official music from metal bands, it almost acts as a kind of violent interactive "museum" for metal music (this is now more pertinent a saying since some of the people in it are not with us any longer... See you around, Killmaster.). You can organize what plays in case you don't like stuff, can unlock hidden tracks by finding stuff, your magic is literal guitar hero style input etc. Each genre is its own faction and has its own powers, and even has in-world lore that applies its own twisted "metal logic." One of those things that deserves a sequel in different hands.

Most of the controls work well enough, many weapons are just really difficult to properly land full swings with, it's almost impossible to consistently do full swings from a planned angle at a particular body part.
The biggest issue is that momentum calculation often leads to bladed weapons cutting far better than is reasonable. I've seen someone get instantly cut in half because they were slashed by a steak knife before.
Blunt weapons are pretty horrible unless you're fighting a completely unarmored opponent or both participants are in full plate, they do nothing except deliver concussions against armored opponents, you can't really wear down armored opponents through impacts against parts of their body besides their head.
The most effective weapon against armored and unarmored opponents as of right now is probably the goedendag. It's long, it has armor piercing swings that are very easy to land, and it also can deliver immediately incapacitating stabs to any part of the body not armored by plate.

What is the meta of noita? You go down until you have good wands, then dig up and go to parallel worlds to farm more resources? Farthest I ever reached is the zone below the vault, where I got instantly obliterated because there are tons of monsters, more tanky than in the levels above.

You're way too early to be worrying about parallel worlds or anything like that.
The meta at your stage is to explore. Find more stuff, side biomes, spells, unique wands, emerald tablets, orbs, bosses. Learn how different spells, wandbuilding and various game systems work.
Gettin good at Noita is 80% knowledge. The remaining fifth is a mix of metaprogression (spell unlocks), twitch skill and early game RNG.

Be patient about it, don't rush and don't worry about hyper optimizing your resources. The game doesn't really have a failstate, so even though it feels cool to utilize every single card you get, there's nothing wrong with letting some of them decay every now and then
>>
>>521201537
Then your loss I guess, especially since ps3 online must be dead as fuck now so you wont be able to find someone else. The way it worked is tgat randomly youd be able to find someone else also playing (it was effectively seamless obline) and youd support each others in climbing the mountain and finding upgrades for your cape (also you could recharge each others cape by singing alongside each others, greatly enhancing your mutual reach as to attain more upgrades). The last two chapters were emotional rollercoaster as youd both die of exhaustion near the tempest wrought mountaintop and get reborn as flying angels where you'd find whoever you played with flying there and it would be a final stretch of jolly cooperation as you soar ever higher and fly around each others.

Overall a suprisingly great experience, one of the few games id legitimately call an art work.

I wouldn't say metaprogress influence much of anything, getting the late game spells early is so goddamn rare that it almost never happens. When you have everything unlocked, you have hundreds of spells and you only have maybe 5 or 10 unlockable spells that are actually worth a damn to get early, they come only from fairly rare sources that pick a random spell regardless of the tier. Twitch skill is a lot more important than metaprogress.

If it's early "meta" I think what contributed the most to me getting gud is the digging through the Holy Mountain trick. If you dig through the Holy Mountain it won't collapse and you can always go back to it whenever you want to tinker wands if you don't get the tinker wands anywhere perk.

The second thing that made me git gud is SPOILER defeating the alchemist. You shouldn't worry about it at this point.
>>
>>521211464
Nah that's 100% bullshit.

Many of the greek letter spells aren't late game, Zeta is literally tier 2 and can be used for infinite heals and black holes. Add triggers and such are also available at mid-tiers.
When it comes to late game (tier 10) spells, what's the easiest way to get wand refresh? Metaprogression. Fuck going to mestarien mestari again, just go to hell and pick as many copies as you like.
Same applies to almost any unlockable spell but especially late game stuff. You can get it way easier from shops if you have it unlocked.

>>521213331
>digging through the Holy Mountain trick

Digging through is easier. I go back and forth out and into the holy mountain a LOT so I mess up at times. Digging is just safer and more convenient. Sometimes you don't get a tp wand too.
>>
>>521213373
You're correct. That's a new thing from the late 2023-2024 updates, I haven't really played noita since 2021. Before that, the greek letters were all tier 5+ (except sigma I think which was tier 4). Still, a 0.15% spawn rate is pretty damn low for a "copy a random spell from a different wand" spell. Divide by 2 is tier 3 and also very rare. Both are rarer than finding the nuke spell which is tier 1.

You are not buying divide by 3, 4 or 10 from shops. Divide by 3 is a 0.07% tier 4 spell. Divide by 4 is 0.08% tier 5 which is temple tier, literally the end of the game. Divide by 4 and divide by 10 are post temple, divide by 10 specifically is tier 10 only.
Those are extremely rare before temple of the art. By that point you shouldn't have any problem going back up and getting the greek letters yourself.
The only one that has decent chances to appear before kolmi is divide by 2 in temple of the art and that's still fairly low.
There are very few game changer spells that you can unlock, tentacle is one of them, orbits are some others (which are very easy to unlock since it's in the jungle from one of the easiest boss in the game) and the trigger spells.

Easiest way to survive her punch is 10 strength, which you can power level almost trivially by gathering resources. Herbs are the most important one to gather just because there's several legendary ones that give permanent HP/SP increases. Your personal house's back yard / mountain comes with 3 of each legendary gather point + one epic / rare / normal after you've upgraded it.
>>
>>521225098
They're shops all the same. You got into a semantics fight.
>>
>>521226117
But anon, you're not getting to those shops before unlocking the spells in the first place. Hell is hard to get to and sky is extremely dangerous. At best unlocking those spells just allows you to skip the quest to get them again, it doesn't make future runs easier since by the point where you can even realistically access those shops, you would have everything you need to unlock those spells again.
>>
>>521225098
Actually yeah, I have dug into the east 300k gold square and gone to heaven shops very early a couple of times.

But who said anything about that? You're jousting against your own imaginary windmills.

Take a moment to look back at the statement you tacked on to and started arguing against:
>80% knowledge. The remaining fifth is a mix of metaprogression (spell unlocks), twitch skill and early game RNG.
Metaprogress via spell unlocks is a contributing part to the last 20%. Do you still disagree with this or what?

Then you replied
>I wouldn't say metaprogress influence much of anything
Which I called bullshit and have continued to provide examples how metaprogress infuences the game.
Like the last example. Without spell unlocks, you'd need to be several NG+ deep to build maxed out divide chains by repeeating the quests. With unlocks, you can quite easily do it in early midgame, before even breaking into parallel worlds.
>>
>>521227526
I'd argue that metaprogress factor so little that it's not worth mentioning at all. So yes, I'd argue that mentioning it in the last 20% is something I would disagree with.
>>
The dishonesty at full display.
Unlocking the Greeks significantly decreases the difficulty of the game.
>>
>>521227526
>Like the last example. Without spell unlocks, you'd need to be several NG+ deep to build maxed out divide chains by repeeating the quests. With unlocks, you can quite easily do it in early midgame, before even breaking into parallel worlds.
Shops are generated when you generate the chunk they are in so you don't need to go to ng+ to access spells you've unlocked. Using any spell once unlocks them. The way spell generation works is by first generating all spells and then when they actually spawn, check if you are allowed to use this spell, if not, it is generated again by going through a list until a valid spell is selected. So it's completely possible to unlock the greek letter spells and do the coral chest quest and then find divide by and greek letters in the work shops.

It's pretty hard to measure how fast you are going when the main cues are the pitch of the jet engine noise and the size of crater you leave when hitting something.

absolutely yes, it involves abusing recoil

You're talking of it as if Metroid didnt just copy paste Wario world moveset & gameplay mechanics and changed a few minor details. But I understand what you mean, I guess it had to do with designing a world in a way that integrate these upgrades in a tengible fashion that doesnt just end up just being a glorified key for specific locks, so to speak. Like its one thing to think up of possible upgrades, its a whole other thing to design a world able to integrate these upgrades in a way that feel natural, you would effectively need to redo the entire game multiple times before you get a real grasp of the potential of each abilities, and retrosatively modify the world design as to implement them in seamless fashion, which is a prospect sinply beyond the scope of gamedev that could be considered indies.

Almost all our language and grammar comes from mistakes or people just making shit up. Fun fact, "you" used to be for only the plural, "thou" was the singular. I don't remember the exact timeline, but those commentators would also consider our usage to be an error, give or take a century or two.
>>
Isn't it sad that there are people who actually like Hollow Knights? The game still has tons of bug a decade after its release.
>>
>>521285107
This is why "you are" is "you are" and not "you is". Using plural for individuals as a sign of politeness has been a thing for quite literally thousands of years. It's called the T-V distinction, the term originate from Latin but it is still common in French, Italian and Spanish. Historically, German also had a T-V distinction. English, being a Germanic language, also had the T-V distinction for a very long time. It was seen as polite to refer to higher social caste individuals by the third person instead of the second person.

Abiotic Factor has its issues, but I really want to bring attention to its impeccable level design. I was genuinely stumped here, until I noticed the fences being damaged.

Another example of cool level design: the door on the right is locked. So take a guess where you gotta go?
Okay, maybe it's too obvious and the yellow paint is overkill, but it's so easy in a game to just go forward and not pay attention, better too much than not enough;

I don't think those exist. JRPGs are practically defined by linearity.
>>
>>521342040
I don't really know what to call the genre, but there are super hard niche japanese puzzle games with superficial JRPG trappings. Completely deterministic grid-based puzzle games not unlike sokoban, but the type of intellect it takes is forward thinking to find a sequence of actions that lets you complete the dungeon level without getting softlocked, rather than sokoban's shorter puzzles demanding spatial intelligence.
They aren't often discussed on 4chan because whenever one is brought up, it absolutely filters everyone.

I let it be and started walking around a bit more.
Right now Im kind of lost, not sure which one go for, either doing the escorting mission, the Ye battalion missions, or just explore, I have been trying to get Machinery to level 4 so I can open the tombs chests. If anything right now Im having issues with getting manuals because I only come across blue ones most of the time, none of them for zither, the weapon I have chosen, and since I am in the sect of the old man, I dont know if I can properly leave his sect until I do all the quests of it.

I can't really help you with the old man sect because if you don't accept him immediately, he fucks off and never returns and I didn't accept him.
I do know / have heard that if you see him through to the end, you get a fantastic internal manual or something.
Anything else though feel free to ask away, I've been making a lot of progress, have over half the game's achievements on my first run so far. If you want a huge power boost the main thing is to reach the South West area and don't fuck up your options at all.

His missions are mostly find out shit or be a decent person beating criminals or similar, He wants me to dismantle the 9 factions activities in the 3 towns, I did chuxiang, Dai liang, the 9 faction in Lin an is the one I have left.
>South west
For that area you need a permit from the dukes of the north and east, right? I got it from the Duke of Li ann, The one from Dai liang doesnt want to give it to me yet.

Pass both imperial scholar examinations, start with chux city answering questions daily at the school five times, then repeat for dai city once you've passed the first examinations.

Once you do have access through the gate (bring rope and stuff for an important little sidequest on the way), head for the courtyard and side with neither side. Go to the Juili tribe location, dismiss your entire party and pet back to your house, and you can sneak past the entrance guards by starting a battle and running past them at top speed then retreating once in a corner down the path to the left. If you do the bug event with the girl in the main hall you get +2 to a stat for -1 in another, gives +10 toxicology and stops working once you have 100 toxicology. I strongly recommend you dump most of the points into getting Constitution as I've learned now you really want 25 of that if you can help it, and use all your bonus points from levels + pills for Strength to get that to 25 as well. The +2 / -1 thing for Strength lowers Constitution, hence try to avoid having to rely on that.

Also do pic related.

>Pass the Exams
Ah right, the couplets, I forgot those.
I can actually take advantage of that by also doing the escort missions to the city and maybe going every once in a while to the auction in either city to get money. thanks for that. Im going to ignore the rest of the message because I kind of want to play as blind as possible tho.
>>
>>521367493
>because I kind of want to play as blind as possible tho.
I mean, I gave that the good old college try too for the first 50+ hours of the game, but shit's ridiculous and you can fuck up something important for doing something minor out of place ages ago.

For example, Confucius temple is really good to join later, best of the big three, but if you've even slightly fucked up in daliang city it's GG and you've locked yourself out permanently unless you find a way to beg the governor to recommend you instead. Something as simple as slightly overcharging for one item when helping out that merchant on the bridge is all it takes.

>Something as simple as slightly overcharging for one item when helping out that merchant on the bridge is all it takes.
Mmm, F I guess. Even then I want to organically fuck up or find out by myself the problems. I am going to use the guide for the couplet matching at least, I remember coming across the mute grandma and her riddles and me just standing there wondering wtf was the logic here until I mentioned it to a friend and confirmed me this was a Hanzi/chinese specific riddle and just savescum/use the guide to go through it unless i wanted to start learning chinese.
>>
>>521369718
>Mmm, F I guess.
Yeah, that was also my one fuckup and I assume most players did the same thing not realising how important it is. There at least is an alt method to join so it's not super permanent but feels bad man. Fukken esoteric chinks, I like their game style sure but damn can they be punishing for the smallest mistake.

After playing the game quite a lot and finally completing the gauntlet, I think I've experienced enough of the demo.
It's surprising how consistent you can get with experience considering it's an incredibly floppy physics game. They just need to fix blades semi-regularly phasing through armor into your organs.

I'm like 95% done making a pretty cool 2D strategy/action game called Hellbirther. The game is free and I encourage people to try it out now. My first ever actual game. It's inspired by Ace Combat and a little bit by other series like Battlefield. Essentially you control a drone walking tank remotely from afar and blow shit up to unlock new abilities/skins/etc. There's a main campaign storyline where demons invade the planet, and other modes just for fun. The campaign has 13 missions currently with at least 5 more coming in the future. Been working on it solo since November 2021 and I really appreciate every single person that takes the time to try it out.
