It does help that the original game already had a strong linear cinematic flair and script that can translate well to screen. A LiS show is a totally different beast in this regard. D9 have no voice in chapter because they do not care and/or have laid off all the main devs from the last game, DontNod's Michel, Luc and Christian Divine should be called but its not going to happen, so you are left with Square's management team in London, dealing with a tv show adaptation that will have to create a linear story out of a game whose main gimmick was the "choose your own story" bit. Even assuming the Dmitri Johnson guy had the good will to make a good product that respect the fans, he still has to deal with Square's bullshit, expecially after the failure of DE.

You can't change the past but you can change how you deal with it and how you move forward. It's a coming-of-age story but the gayness is a minor role that is even optional depending on how you played the game.
