His game is a mess of slapped together assets and poorly structured levels with little thought put into them. He's even said before he doesn't really know what he's doing and is just making it up as he goes.

You have the chance to make something better and clearly possess both the art and programming skills to do so. Your game's style easily surpasses most of the bad and vaguely pretty games here including Acrolyte, so just find some other competent devs to work with to refine the gameplay more, because you already have a great start.

If you're a good enough porn artist to make a good porn game, people would rather see you just post more small individual projects (pics, stories, whatever) on whichever gallery of yours they follow. Honestly man way too long. I'm 30 and went to art school before dropping out to join the army. By the time my group was 27 half of them were already employed with big studios while I was a shit bag NCO

I tried finishing Healed to death in a day but I've been bashing my head against the final boss too much, I'll get around to it tomorrow.
The game could have used like an extra month of polishing time and maybe a more typical roguelite progression.
When you die you can't restart with the same crew, if you think you had a good build or team composition and you want to try again you're out of luck and have to suicide parties until the healer you actually want to play shows up in the rotation. It's one of the most frustrating things I've experienced in a game and I have no Idea what it's meant to accomplish.

No, they are separate scenes exchanged at runtime. you can do a load screen or load the next one in the background, hidden. You have a "Main" scene or some "Level Manager" which is the actual parent which takes care of loading.

I think the issue is that fundamentally exercise is a short term "punishment/suffering" just like how food is short term pleasure.
Game dev is a long term kind of struggle.
There is no way to enjoy it if you do not enjoy the practice itself.

I think that would be because all the textures are converted to be renderTextures in the engine, and this happens when you change a texture too.

Timer in HTD is a crutch. The whole idea of a "mmo healer but in singleplayer" was doomed from the start. You pick the most unpopular class from a genre that's tailored for human interactions and strip away human interactions.

Nowadays sharding is used even in pservers. For example when you're in Stormwind, you might actually be in one of 5 different parallel Stormwinds, with different players in each. You can reach them all in chat, and if you join a party of someone from another shard, you will be transfered to their shard and see how players from current shard around you disappear and other other players from shard you're transferred appear. This is all an optimization thing, but it honestly sucks. It sucks more in openworld though, because you can miss running into certain encounters simply because you've been assigned to different shard. MMORPG like WoW should be designed with large player problems in mind. For example in overcrowded cities there should be some kind of DOT effect like "trampled in the crowd", which makes players eventually die if they run into too big of a crowd. Also town guards might refuse to let you in if city is overcrowded, gryphon masters and subway might also refuse to transport you. Many good immersive ways to deal with the issue.

Oh and gameplay is basically complete. It's just a few systems mashed together under the pokemon Nuzlocke ruleset.
You have your equipment which can perform different types of damage (slash, blunt etc) with a directional input when using it.
Each character has their own unique skill making them valuable. For example some healers can heal at the cost of their own health but others heal at the cost of their own sanity. Others can apply heal over time effects etc. Very WoW esque with each character having its own use.
The sanity is there mostly as a resource to be expended in dire times. Eg if you have Carrion Knight, they can self sustain which is very rare but it drains sanity. If your sanity goes to zero you gotta fight them as a mini boss so you need to weigh options if sacrificing them is worth it to save the run.

I created a role system where each party member has a "role" in that area. For example in the first area you have a guardsman, a pursuer and a prey. The game will choose from a table which to roll for each and you pick one based on what you need in that situation.

Yesterday I enabled root motion for attacks. Now enemies can attack forward or get stunned sideways without me having to code in the movement, since it's all in the animations.

Today however I've got some cool progress in the way of aesthetics: I've set up dynamic rotation for the enemies' head and eyes, and I've added a "reflexes" variable to the enemy resource.
The higher an enemy's reflexes, the faster they'll snap their head and eyes onto the player and (haven't implemented this yet) the faster they'll turn around to attack again.

Pic rel: I just sidestepped the enemy's knee attack, but they've got high reflexes so after they missed they tracked me right back again.

Because I've clamped the head's rotation tighter than the eye rotation, so if you are considerably below, above, or to the side of an enemy the head will stop rotating but the eyes will stop later. This makes sure the eyes aren't in a constant 1000 yard stare

Here's a redpill.

You can use a black and white or gray scale mask made in Krita using a wacom.
