So if you have 3k armor and get hit for a 5k slam it actually only prevents 3,000/3,000+60,000= less than 5% damage reduction. Block on the other hand is genuinely good, and 70%+ block is a fantastic defensive layer so many people aren't even fully aware of how shit armor is since they feel tanky entirely through their shield (until something uses a slam coded as unblockable and they instantly die)that's why cloak of flame is the equivalent of like 100k arrmor and actually gets MORE efficient against bigger hits whereas armor gets worse. base 75% res cof against a 5k slam means 40% of that slam is taken as fire and only a quarter of that 40% gets through, it is functionally 30% physical damage reduction, the equivalent of about THIRTY THOUSAND armor. For reference the #1 Hardcore ladder Smith of Kitava has only 5,500 armor. Too bad alkaizer's pet gimp dev is too retarded to copy+paste the current formula back into poo2

I'm surprised no one is talking about one of the most notable issues of skill imbalance is how strong lightning damage is on the passive tree, while no other type of damage comes close to that amount of power you can get. Its the reason why lightning spear is the meta skill, and why arc was the meta skill last patch. this tree is unbalanced as shit and is a huge contributor to lack of build depth.

ES is literally blue health and can be better than health in many situations. "squishy" mages can actually be the biggest health tanks in the game with it. Evasion is evasion, and is the only one that actually fulfills its supposed class fantasy and role and is pretty straightforward, also the easiest to mix with ES or armor since it's synergistic with any build in the game dodging hits is always good. armor is just purposefully shitty physical damage resistance and is actually comparable to fire/lightning/cold/chaos res, but instead of % resists that get more efficient up to a 75% base cap, it's actually a formula that punishes using armor to tank big hits (the exact opposite of elemental resists) and does literally nothing against non-physical damage to begin with, unlike ES and Evasion which can work on any damage type.Evasion's actual comparison is Block, and ES's peer is Health. But they wanna go red/green/blue color coding and so they insist on trying to pretend that a build who does nothing but get larger amounts of armor should have the same opportunity cost as having 10k ES. 20% more armor nodes cost as much to take as 20% more ES ones
