The entire reason scrolls were a step in the right direction was them undoing the fuckery that was the base system by giving you access to more tools throughout a hunt.

Farm Gobletweed/Chaliceweed and trade them to Rove for coins, since he'll even take the common version so you can amass a ton very quickly, then trade the coins for any of the trade in items you need. It means that every rest you've at least got two shots, one from the proper trader and one from the coin guy.
