KH fans just couldn't handle that the characters didn't interact with everyone like their fanfictions. Like they expect Roxas to have an identity crisis about looking like Ventus when he already accepted being his own guy, and Xehabort is seconds away from becoming God. I blame the MCU.

I think Unreality might have different layers or versions. Kind of like in Dream Drop Distance, where Sora and Riku were in the same worlds but still separated.

Not all, we get a glimpse of one in KH3 and in it's ordinary empty state it's a white blank humanoid figure without any defining features. It literally likes like a clay figurine. Easy, go with the staple of the series: It's data. Make it Sora's parallel story to Kairi's dive in Melody of Memory.
Sora uses the heart network he figured out in ReMind to upload as many memories as he can get his hands on to a computer and combs every inch of those memories trying to find anything that might help him escape Quadratum (side note, this will be the first time he "remembers" Chain of Memories). Things go south, he has to solve some other problem with help from his new Quadratum friends, and discovers some new information that sets up the next entry in some small way.
I won't bother with the bonus points because I barely understand Mastro and his disciples as it is.

Your story works great, but let me try. I was thinking about something like Dark Cloud 2’s golfing. It’s silly for those busy fighters to be spending time playing golf, but they’re closing time anomaly portals. Maybe something like that could happen in KH. The characters need to create gummi karts and ride around in a hurry to deal with anomalies caused by Darklings or whatever. Maybe racing across all worlds strengthens the friendship connections so that they don’t fade away due to a cosmic anomaly, something like that.

As much as I adore KH’s writing and lore, trying to think this up makes me appreciate the simplicity of the Mario world. Why are they having a race/sport tournament/party? Because they want to have silly fun. Done.

I've been thinking. It's kinda weird how the Organization in KH3 keeps bringing up the "New Seven Hearts" and threatens the heroes with the possibility that they'll go after them if they don't play along and assemble seven lights and fight the thirteen darknesses. And I realized it's probably because in the time span between BBs and KH3, Xehanort probably realized, "Oh shit, my plans would have been completely ruined if Terra, Aqua, and Ventus just decided not to come fight me at the Keyblade Graveyard that day. It's a good thing they were so stupid. Next time I do this shit, I'd better have some good insurance to make sure my pawns have to fall into my clutches."

Xehanort's plans to forge the X-blade were inherited by his alternate selves, Ansem and Xemnas, even if they didn't remember it consciously. Their subconscious memory compelled their actions.
For Ansem, he gathered 7 shards of light in the form of the seven Princesses of Heart, reworking the plan into opening the Door to Darkness he was building.
For Xemnas, he gathered 13 vessels of darkness in the form of Organization XIII, reworking the plan into recovering (or recreating) their missing hearts.

The New Seven Hearts is just Xehanort telling the heroes that if they refuse to cooperate he's not phased and can still proceed without them.

The reports do say that they are mostly driven by instinct. But like >>538470580 said Sora's Heartless had will, and many of the journal descriptions of Heartless talk about them being driven/having emotions (Which the Reports also state they don't have) and having behavior far different from the rest of the Heartless (In Days especially). Because rewatching it I just realized Sora is obviously going to get reality warping powers like the protagonist in Dark City. DDD and KH3 has Ansem the Wise and Ysn Sid reiterate that Sora can make things real and Sora is currently lost in a world of fiction. And in Dark City the protagonist learns to 'tune' and alter reality and basically control the entire Dark City. It's possible the antagonists in Quadratum can do this. Its probably what Stella is doing.

The reason this isn't schizo is because it heavily inspired Kingdom Hearts 2 and KHUX. That's where the idea for entire World that Never Was came from. And why Xemnas can move buildings and why he was trying to understand hearts. TWTNW' capital city is Dark City it's not even remotely subtle. Then they basically redid those ideas for the Darkness and made them even more like the alien hivemind in the movie. And so Quadratum is basically the new reality mindbending city like the movie Dark City.


Dark City is the key to all of this.

I love how it treats everyone, everyone looks good. You don't think that Marluxia or Zexion/Leaxaus look bad when Axel starts betraying everyone on Xemnas (Saix) orders.

Sora was being mindfucked and Riku was being darknesspilled, so they have a great struggle in this adventure. It's beautiful.

I also think DDD does wonders for him.
We start seeing Sora falter and fall into the Big X's plans.
While Riku either by chance or destiny is there to fuck up Xehanort's plans. I laugh everytime young X goes "I don't know how you did it but you managed to contain the darkness, to harness its power at will" like it's something he was unable to do and that's how he got his yellow corrupted eyes.
Remember Young X magic was Time, at some point the tapped in Darkness and that's why X-Ansem and Big X uses Darkness to attack, while Xemnas got the Laser magic (Mix of Fire//Thunder, I guess).

I think Sora edges out Riku on Traverse Town just a little because he meets Neku but overall I think they both had great Traverse Town visits.
I can't say wether Frollo is racist because he thinks Sora is a gypsy or asian lamo. So I will always remember that one for Sora.
Prankster's Paradise it's Riku's World. Sora got nothing to work here.
The Grid and Country of Musketeers are better for Sora.
Symphony is a tie, they both got great showings on the best world on the game.

TWTNW is the dealbreaker, Riku's active while Sora is barely reactive. I think this warps the view of the game a lot.
Also remember that thanks to DDD and Sora's befriending the Spirits it's that he gets Ephemer's help on the Keyblade Graveyard, Sora is even friends with the ancient Dandelions.

I agree, but given Sakurai's history I don't see it as particularly likely. When approached about Brawl he was told that if he refused Nintendo would just port melee with online functionality. Sakurai's response was "That doesn't sound like a new game." I suppose it'll come down to whether or not Nintendo and Sakurai think there's still more value in building on the existing crossover.

Sakurai changed his minds on things plenty of times, especially regarding smash. At the time maybe he just thought it would be wack but now we're used to remasters and enhanced ports, nintendo especially did quite a bunch of them (not just mario kart but even stuff like xenoblade, and i bet a good bunch of other games like fire emble are getting a whole new line of deluxe ports on switch 2)
besides, Sakurai if anything talked a lot about how much work it all is and he's already working on kirby air riders (though i'd assume that one is almost done), i think at this point in time he'd agree on ultimate deluxe where just oversees the project and whatnot, especially since ultimate proper he already started delegating a good deal of his work to others (iirc he only pretty much made up the character's movesets and other "idea guy" roles)

He was more hands off, but pretty far from just the idea guy. Go watch his videos on the various corrections he made when reviewing animations, visuals, models, effects, etc. It's a shit ton. When he wrote the design doc for Ultimate every character had 100 or so proposed changes listed. All from him. The guy is absolutely still very hands on. But yes, an enhanced port would be less work provided it doesn't require reworking most of the roster.
