I'm in the end of act 3 of DOS 2 in the Council Academy, and the game is beginning to wear on me at this point. Is it worth going on to the end to say I beat it, because I loved act 1 and thought act 2 was really good as well. Act 3 was fine, but I'm getting a bit burnt out now. I feel like the lore writing was good, and the gameplay and freedom you get is amazing, but the writing in game isn't as interesting as it was in the lorebook.

Hello, /vg/bros. I'm a pretty casual gamer who's been attempting to scratch a deep CRPG itch. I never played a CRPG before BG3 (technically, I played half of DOS2 if that counts, but I don't remember shit except I picked some red lizard dude). I loved BG3. The combat was really satisfying, the constant dialogue/banter was excellent, the various branches of skills and classes was awesome. My one real complaint was that the main story felt a bit overstated since there was very little urgency, and more importantly, the gear was very limited. But still, it was a 10/10 experience. I loved every act, especially because they all provided a totally different vibe.Based on this, can you please recommend me a CRPG to play? I know Pathfinder and Rogue Trader are supposed to be awesome, but I'm curious if they are really fun adventure plays, or if I'll have to start number-crunching on Excel (which I don't want to do). I want an epic story with all the freedom BG3 provided. More politics would be great. I'm open to basically any genre, but would prefer fantasy/sci-fi. You can get by without number crunching if you just pick a standard strong build and/or play on lower difficulties. There are lots of straightforward builds that are very effective, but it can be intimidating if you don't know where to start. That said there are simple powerful builds like Oracle>Angel. Just do a little research. I think RT has better characters and the 40k setting is really cool, but the combat system is rougher and kind of a first draft. Also a great power fantasy though.I'd agree with the other poster that Dragon Age Origins might be the most approachable follow up to BG3. Good balance of story, choices, and manageable combat. I'd recommend the GoG version if you don't want to look up how to patch it for modern hardware yourself. It's on their preservation program and is fully updated.

It's looking like I'll be well-stocked on CRPGs for years to come lol. It took me like 180 hours to beat BG3 because I explored every nook and cranny. I played on the difficulty just below Honor Mode and found it very manageable. I'm pretty sure the only fight where I wiped more than twice was against that possessed group of gnolls in Act 1.

I played fallout 1 and 2 before, but this planescape world and story I enjoyed much more. The gameplay was more fun. Text heavy and interaction based not too much killing was very refreshing. I ended up chaotic neutral which I was happy with. First time I really got into this fantasy role playing mindset, like my mind was on another plane. My dreams got also very intense because reading so much and the color harmony also did something to my association to feelings. I will try Arcanum or Temple of elemental evil next because I liked VTMB storytelling so much. My friend has baldurs gate 1 and 2 for ps2 and I could wire them to video projector and good stereos. But baldurs gate looks gay at first glance and I like the more edgy story telling. Im also thinking about Jagged allience and neverwinter nights, but I dont know anything about them. They just look cool. I tried arcanum I liked the setting but I got stuck bad in the first city. Im also smoking weed and taking microdoses of shrooms to enhance the experience, but getting a bit retarted. Planescape was so good Im feeling sad that it ended. I got attached to the characters and standing to my philosophies. The game seemed much easier than arcanum. But maybe now after experience with fallout 1, 2 and planescape I can conquer arcanum also. After that maybe temple of elemental evil which seems even more autistic. I like these story heavy games because I actually gain memories and complex feelings. I have 1500h in tf2 and 1800h in dota 2 4000h in runescape, 800h in rust and I dont remember shit from these games. It feels like time wasted from life, but these singleplayer story games feel like their not time out of my life but actually valuable experiences.

Shitposting aside, Yrliet's romance is rather weird. They go out of their way to make you aware she's physically repulsed by you, and write scenes where she physically shudders at the very thought of any physical contact with you, even going so far as to say it hurts her to her very soul to even picture it. Which, okay, let's just take that at face value as someone who doesn't like to be touched, there are people irl who desire emotional connections but have issues with physical touch. There is such thing as non-physical, mostly emotional relationship. Fine, I'm with you so far. But then they also made a point to establish that she looks down on humans and she's constantly using racial slurs non-stop. Even if you want to say "well she likes me even though she doesn't like humans in general", you still have the issue that a great many of her conversations include her saying stuff like "of course, I shouldn't have expected your primitive mind to understand...let me explain", meaning she still doesn't actually think of you as an equal and sees herself as educating a poor stupid lesser species, then she just says "but I like you elantach" anyway, even though she thinks lowly of humans and lowly of your intellectual capacity.Which I think is the crux of the issue. Yrliet's romance hinges on the fact that she likes you in spite of you being a lesser species, you're "the good one", but it's not actually realistic. She just likes you from the start and calls you a different term before she knows you, which makes it feel forced. She's written to make you an exception from other mon'keigh, but it starts before you say anything, and continues even if you choose the dumb dialogue options that are just not the antagonistic ones that ruin the romance. I think on some level people understand that this isn't written very well, but they defend it for whatever reason.Meanwhile, Jimmy, Jae, Kibb, and Cassia all have a more natural start to their romance and it makes sense.
