Man, Malwrath was a joke of a fight compared to what I had to go through to get to him.Dude died in two attacks.
>>555117075Oh, it appears I missed Xenlon entirely. I was thinking he was locked behind a second postgame.
Abused savestates on the the Don Mole boss fight a bunch to test some some shit on 8 3DS after the conversation last thread >>554981282Savestated a bunch on the Don Mole fight to test this stuff since he seemed like a good punching bag.Everyone had the best weapons I could give them from Alchemy at that point-Jessica: No buffs, Twin Dragon Lash 50-55 damage-Jessica: 50 Tension, Twin Dragon Lash 336 Damage-Jessica: Crackle 45 damage, with Divine Intervention 65 damage-Jessica: Frizzle 50-70 damage, with Divine Intervention around 90 damage-Yangus: No buffs, Parallax 55 damage-Yangus: Oomph, Parallax 110-120 damage-Yangus: Oomph + 20 Tension, Parallax 364 damage-Hero: No buffs, Multithrust 55-70 damage-Hero: 20 tension, Multithrust 4 hits ~200 damageThe main problem is Divine Intervention gets resisted a lot which is annoying. Would be less setup than tension boosting if it just worked normally. According to random retards on the internet the nerfed Twin Dragon Lash has the same damage multiplier as the buffed final Knife move but I'm many skill points away from being able to compare that.
>>555129987According to the wiki nothing resists DI, it just has a fixed hit rate. Also, SD is strong because it apparently inherits weapon properties including stuff like the Icicle Dirk's +50% Crack Damage.
>>555134075This child has bigger boobs than Serena or Anlucia. I predict she'll be a turbo titty monster when she's older

>>555126723Did they?
>>555129987did I make a mistake by going for fans instead of knives on red? fandango is disappointing and her 100 roguery skill seems to do way more damage.
>>555144616Fans give her Kazing so it's not badBlade Cascade is really strong though

I want to play a dragon quest game but I am stupid and pokemon taught me that using skills other than straight up attacks is pointless so I keep getting fucked up in dq1,2,3 remakes. Please help cure my stupid brain.
Instead of changing DQ's battle system they should do a first person dungeon crawler spinoff with the exact same battle system from the main series
>>555158172Frau Blücher!
What happened here, when dq 1+2 hd remake were a couple weeks away this place was busy, now its like a ghost town but 7 remake is like 2 weeks away.
>>5552013767 remake looks bad
I have 2 orichalcums left in dq8 right before the final dungeon I think. I already used 2 to make a goddess ring and a sage stone. should I make a meteorite bracer, some metal slime equips, or just more goddess rings?
>>555182740Status moves are overpowered as shit in Pokemon what are you talking about. The NPC trainers especially can't deal with shit like swords dance or spikes.
>>555205689Bracer is good for forcing someone to be first in the turn order
>>555207164I don't know if that's important or not. what I've been doing is having hero alternate between psyche up and falcon slash while morrie uses intenso on him and red and jessica kind of do whatever because I built them wrong. morrie is faster than hero so the falcon slash always comes out at 20 or 50 tension.
>>555208470Makes sure your heals always go off before someone at low HP gets smacked or if you want buffs or big AOEs to go off before anyone else can moveFor the rest of the orchalcum just don't make Metal King Armor cause its breath protection is a big downgrade compared to the Liquid Metal element damage protection
DQII is 39 years old.
/dqg/ posters are 39 years old.
>>555209369I’m 25. 4 hours into the new demo, It’s great
>>555205689Two timbrels of tension are the single most important thing you can craft in DQ8.

>>5552013767 remake looks divisive
>>555244630As long as someone mods out the shitty screen vignetting on PC I'll play it at some point.
>>555247894?
>>555201376I dislike HD2D (at least the way the DQ remakes do it) and I'm not really interested in remakes, so I've had less incentive to post here as often. These days I'm more focused on going back and playing interesting RPGs I never played before. I'm on the fence as to whether I should get the DQ7 remake (I'm curious to see the changes myself as I've only played the PS1 version), but really all I want is to see DQ12.
>>555201376DQ7 was always the most divisive game, and this remake is even moreso.
>>555201376Well we had VIIR to speculate about before I+II HD released.
>>555244630So did 1+2 and 3 before it. Especially 3.
Do you think the simulation made him live out the full 10 uears of slavery in seemingly real time? How about all that time as a statue? Was he conscious and aware of everything?

>dragon ball super back before dragon quest 12
>>555268335That's fine, I still want to catch up on DQ titles I missed
>>555270050im just tired, ive beaten all the mainline games (besides the x expansions after 3) multiple times, ive played and beaten a majority of the spin offs. just give me 12.
>>55520936933 here. First game I played after Pokemon Blue was Dragon Warrior Monsters. And I'm nowhere near the most boomer DQ player.
>>555131604>Also, SD is strong because it apparently inherits weapon properties including stuff like the Icicle Dirk's +50% Crack Damage.I think most weapon abilities apply the weapon effects but most weapon types that aren't swords have no effects at allThe instakill spear and the hero spear works on all the spear moves except Lightning Storm for example
>>555279674Apparently the healing thing is not true but the instant kill part is true.
>>555201376the demo sparked a lot of discussion. people have nothing to talk about until launch.
>>555283895In the 3DS version at least it works on mercurial thrust at least.
>>555284684You don't need to post this in every thread.
ok I finished playing 8. I'm not too interested in doing post game stuff so I guess I'm done dragon questing for now. what was the hero's secret backstory? also what the fuck is with the music in this series? I thought sugiyama was a respected composer, but it seems like the entire series only has like 6 tracks that it's been using for decades.
>>555300538>what was the hero's secret backstory? His mom was a dragon person and his dad was the king of Argonia, so he's Charmles's cousin and the real heir to the throne (and eligible to marry Medea). He was cursed to have his memory erased, and that curse is what saved him from being cursed like everyone else in Trodain. Also Munchie is his dragon person grandpa. Horii-san clearly liked Harry Potter.>it seems like the entire series only has like 6 tracks that it's been using for decades. No DQ game has that many tracks, which is a problem, but most of the recent games have been weirdly skewed to reuse songs from the same couple of games over and over. Spinoffs also used to get original music, which stopped happening in the late 2000s.
>>555300538So, a long time ago, a woman of a race called the Dragovians visited the human world. There, she met a human man and the two fell in love. the Dragovian woman's father forbid their relationship, and took her home. The human decided to follow after them. He died just short of reaching the Dragovian homeland.Soon after, the Hero was born. His mother died during childbirth. The Hero was sentenced to exile in the human world, his memories of Dravogia sealed through a curse (this is why the Hero is immune to curses) with his grandfather Chen Mui (Munchie) accompanying him as he was ashamed of his actions and did not want his grandson to live alone in the human world. The Hero's father turned out to be none other than the Prince of Argonia who fucked off all those yearrs ago, meaning that, while illegitimate, the Hero was an heir to the throne of Argonia, and could take over Charmle's spot in the promise the Kings of Trodain and Argonia made to eachother in marrying their children, which King Clavius agrees to, once proof of the Hero's heritage is found in the Dragovian Realm.
>>555108886God the gameplay of Act 2 in DQ11 is bad. Why did they think it would be fun to make you fight 2 bosses in a row without even letting you change your equipment? Also the party wide status effects are retarded because they can still hit you even if you have 100% resistance to it.
>>555300538>also what the fuck is with the music in this series? I thought sugiyama was a respected composer, but it seems like the entire series only has like 6 tracks that it's been using for decades.I really don't understand this complaint. There's tons of different music in DQ, you get like 30+ tracks per game and they barely reuse music in most of them.
>>555300538The games have pretty big soundtracks from like 7 onwards but you tend to spend 90% of the game listening to the overworld theme or town themeA lot of songs only get used for story scenes
>>555300538People need to realize that Sugiyama was not involved in active development, he was an independent composer and just that. He only made whatever they requested him to compose. They had different people for sound/music direction and design, and if anyone's to blame for the constant reuse it would be them.
Is it worth it to sell the prayer rings or nah? This goes for a high price and the effect probably won't mean much if it breaks.
>>555305385>some of Sugiyama's music he composed still has never seen the light of day.>next question>By doing it this way, we don't end up with any unused music.Well which is it, Horii-san?!
>>555305517In DQ3 I ended up with a ridiculous amount of prayer rings by the end, like 15 or something. You're safe selling them.
>>555303536>>555305286I played 5 and 8 in the last month and I swear I only remember like 3 town songs, a church theme, an overworld song, and like 2 battle songs, and they were the same in both games. I don't even remember if the final boss had a unique song.
>>555310226Besides the overture and jingles I don't think those games share a single song.>I don't even remember if the final boss had a unique song.Music is subjective and everything but if you're saying that about DQ8 there might actually be something wrong with you.
>>555310567I literally just did the fight 2 hours ago. I thought it was different from the normal battle theme, but it sounded so unimpressive that I wasn't sure if it had been used for other boss fights. compared to uematsu or mitsuda soundtracks the music has been completely unremarkable.
>>555310567They don't. 8 uses two tracks from 3 (Boogie-Woogie, Heavenly Flight), and one track from 4 (Casino Rag).>>555311080The funny thing here is that Great Battle in the Vast Sky is considered one of the better final boss themes of the franchise.
>>555311080>compared to uematsu or mitsudaSo music needs to be 11/10 or you can't remember any of it? It must really suck to have your ears.
Neat little detailThis is my first time playing HD2D
>>555312635I remember songs by sakimoto and yuzo koshiro too.
>>555313716Where is her butt?
>>555323719DQ girls don't have those.
>>555286720i keep changing my mind and re-arranging them. one vtard thought there were many different tierlist posters and followed the SABC format thinking it was the norm. but yeah i wont be posting lists on /dqg/ anymore. they kill discussion instead of opening it.
Would you say the HD-2D DQ remakes are the best HD-2D games out there?
>>555330814ye cause the bar was pretty low before
>>555312356If he barely remembers the songs in the games, then how would he appreciate a song like DQ8's final boss theme which is essentially a combat version of Heavenly Fight? On that note, I don't know why they never made a unique boss theme for 11's real final boss.
>>555344748>I don't know why they never made a unique boss theme for 11's real final boss.Memberberries
>>555330814Second Story R
>>555348074They could have saved that for a bonus boss. It just makes Mordegon feel like the real final boss because he has his own song.>>5553545502nd Story R isnt a true HD2D game, it runs a completely different engine and uses a different style compared to DQ, Octopath and so on.
>>555265052Imagine playing DQV without the slime knight
>>555357135The first time I played I recruited 3 golems nearly back to back just walking through the area that they're in, and I ran a full Golem team almost the entire game after that
>>555357715That's based
>>555357135Oh man, this is adorable.
>>555357135Yeah, imagine having monsters on your team, couldn't be me.
>Merchant is the only vocation from DQ3 that doesnt have a clear analogue in 11's party.
There's a world where Gemma joins the party in XI S as a goofball merchant and maybe some people actually like her.
>>555364348I already like her as she is, honestly she's my second favorite girl from XI, with Veronica being first.
Gemma should've been fat
[good news] Nintendo has cashed in my preorder for VII
>>555358461It basically works out like doing an all Warrior party in 3 except they're even tankier and get a self heal later
>>555330814Honestly not really, no. On the presentation front alone there are so many things the DQ HD2D remakes do worse than Octopath or Triangle Strategy. Even if you don't like the instagram filters, Octo/Tri put a lot more effort into their visuals to make everything come together. Textures are pixelated and the characters actually look like they're a part of the environment. The characters bob up and down in their walking/running animations so they don't look like they're gliding. The camera in battles make them feel more dynamic, the enemies sprites are larger in proportion to your characters so they actually feel imposing, your characters actually have animations in combat. Granted, DQ HD2D remakes have more animated enemies but that's about it, everything else is rather sloppily done and looks far worse in motion than screenshots would have you believe. Content wise, if you already played the DQ titles before, there's really nothing the remakes bring to the table outside of more cutscenes, voices and I guess changes that break the balance of the game. Nothing worth justifying the price, at least, and they cost just as much as the actual new HD2D games when they shouldn't. You're getting more bang for your buck with the other HD2D titles.
>>555368407I cant wait for your glowing review of how bad 7 Reimagined is.
Does Xenlon have the same stats in 3HD as he does in 2HD?I was thinking of going back grinding to level 70 and trying him again in 3, but seeing how he had like 30k HP in 2 I'm getting cold feet.
>>555375628The most difficult part of 2HD's Xenlon is the first fight and that's if you go right away instead of doing the Cave of Confusion > ESS stuff first.
>>555376940I fought him at Lv.69 in 2HD,and he was easy, I killed him in 6 turns. I'm scared of attempting him again in 3 though cause when I first tried I could never even get him to half health, I don't have the ability to just set up and shit out 5000-11000 every turn like I do in 2.
>>555379529Have two spellcasters run through Wrangler (WS) > Gadabout (At least get Egg On) > SageAnd a melee run through Thief/Warrior/Merchant ending in either Thief or Merchant for the ability to wear the Falcon Blade.Hero doesnt matter.I think the strategy becomes self evident at this point.
>>555129987To follow up on the autism with some hard numbers since I got flight and mostly everyone's best available weaponsAll checked on the Gigantes near Tyran Gully since they don't resist spells, party is level 40-42-I think they just knocked Twin Dragon Lash down to around the strength of everyone else's high powered attacks, even accounting for Jessica's strength lagging 50 points behind everyone. Pretty much all of the good shit does similar damage until you start adding extra modifiers.-Sudden Death definitely surpasses Twin Dragon Lash with Oomph but needs the Blizzard Blade effect to really pull ahead. Otherwise Knives/Swords have no move with a damage bonus until Toxic Sword, which you should still be able to grab before the middle of the game at least. -Blizzard Blade extra damage seems to be about 40% of the final hit here and not 50% unless there's some extra math going on I don't know about.-Divine Intervention's bonus spell damage doesn't seem to be affected by tension. More effective for just spamming out unboosted spells from Jessica/Hero/Angelo I guess. Too bad Channel Anger didn't exist in 8.-Magic's max damage is much higher in the 3DS version but I don't Kafrizzle will fully cap until I'm in the postgame. -Thin Air was bottlenecked below 80 damage for like 15 levels but recently began to reach 90 damage sometimes. Gets outdamaged by Charming Look, but still very much worth picking up for Yangus and Red at the least. -Pearly Gates got buffed I think (does 200+ damage) but it costs 20 MP so probably don't bother with it without high Tension.I dunno why I was so interested in comparing all this shit but there you go.
>>555384141Interesting and it definitely matches up with what I've heard about DQ8 3DS.
>>555380757I appreciate the build advice, but that would basically require me to rebuild the whole team from scratch, plus I'm attached to my party of Warrior(F) (warrior > martial artist > warrior)Sage(F) (priest > sage)and Sage(M) (mage > sage)I figure with the amount of grinding required to rebuild them all, I might as well just look into seed grinding to max out stats.
>>555385354If you don't have Wild Side or Muster Strength/Egg On, you're not going to be finishing shit remotely quickly.Furthermore, its faster to grind people up from scratch by grinding hydras in bonus dungeon on dracky than seed farming (you'd need a thief for that anyway)
>>555385615Also, Wild Side is just 20 levels in Wrangler once you have the monsters and Egg On is like ~31 levels in Gadabout. You already have Cutting Edge and Sage done, so its easy to adjust with minor adjustments.
And holy shit they gave Marcello the most accurate Thwack spam I've ever seenOr I've gotten catastrophically unlucky but I had to rez Jessica and Hero four times each
>>555385778But wouldn't I need to level beyond those levels in order to not lose a bunch of stats? Plus I'm losing basically all my seed investments as well.
>>555388335Seeds are permanent.
>>555388335You'll steadily gain more stats from constant reclassing but it'll eventually get to a point where the gain kind of just flatlines outside of the final two and whatever seeds you dump. All Str/Luck on the Warrior is what matters.
>>555344748>DQ8's final boss theme which is essentially a combat version of Heavenly FightHoly fuck how have I never realized that before now. Always something that felt familiar about it but never fully recognized it until now. It's inclusion in 2HD makes a lot more sense to me now too.
I didn't find out that Empyrea was Ramia until yestersay, and I beat 8 a decade ago.The name reveal that apparently happens at the end just meant nothing to me at the time.
>>555362198When I first played the SNES version, me and the kids wiped to Ladja, which resulted in my monster squad coming in and wrecking him.Monster bros can save lives.
>>555397078My monster experience was pretty terrible as I didn't get the wagon u til it was time to switch continents, then I was stuck on the next continent alone with no party, the only thing I could recruit were apples that couldn't survive a single encounter, and I was only barely able to live through some encounters thanks to my Metal King Sword, whereas others were a guaranteed wipe. After eventually overcoming that I was very disappointed when trying to party chat with monsters. Only monster I kept on my team was Fluffy since he was with me from the start, though I would've replaced him with Bianca if I didn't end up dropping the game once, coming back, then dropping it again for good before I ever got her back.Played PS2 version btw. Found out later its apparently much harder than other versions.
>>555398432You can get slime knights and I think those tiny dragons in the same area as the applesThe apple's problem isn't even that its bad or anything it just has an awfully low level cap.Dunno about the difficulty but I think the only early game monster that the DS version made recruitable that wasn't before was the Jailcats.
>>555398432Reminds me of a guy we had ages ago who blogposted his playthrough but missed the wagon and got really frustrated. The standard experience is pretty different since you're almost guaranteed to get a slime knight in the first area and it's an absolute crutch. Monsters can be really useful in V, but with the abysmal recruit rates for most species, the shitty equipment and the obvious desire to have your family as the main party most people don't tend to use more than a couple as backup. If there's one thing I'd want from a remake, it's an overhaul of everything to do with monsters to make them more useful and easier to recruit.
>>555400680The only monsters worth keeping in average playthroughs are your Sabrecat and Dwight.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD2dvFQwY_0Downside of DQ being more popular is that we got youtubers saying shit like 2 is better than 1 and 3.
>>555400680>abysmal recruit ratesGetting multiples of the same type can be a pain but the rates aren't that bad for the first of each monster type unless you're running from random encounters constantly. MC and a Slime Knight cover healing easily and then the other monsters can be literally whatever the fuck
>>555401434Don't try and inflict trash on the rest of us
>>555400680>Reminds me of a guy we had ages ago who blogposted his playthrough but missed the wagon and got really frustrated.Yup, that's probably me. I remember going somewhere on 4chan and venting about it, I was fuming at the prospect of having to potentially start the game from scratch because of how fucked I was.
>>555401434I hate this fat fuck.>>555401575I don't know. I've played V a bunch of times and always seem to get the same few high recruit rate monsters every time, with one or two exceptions. I almost never run from encounters. The problem isn't so much that the hardest monsters to recruit are hard, it's that it doesn't feel like there's a fair medium level and there's no way to influence it (except with the casino reward from the phone version, which I think is just an overall rate up). The result is just boring.
