I played Deep Crimson years ago but the lost DLC sounds kino as hell. Honestly I think they shouldn't have released this game on the 3DS. I hate how much they nerfed Mirai in Shinovi and Estival Versus after she was so fun to play as in Deep Crimson. Weapon switching loli that pulls out fucking miniguns and grenade launchers was fun as hell, and broken too (the grenade launcher could stunlock bosses like Dogen). They took all that away from her in SV and made her way too weak and clunky, she doesn't even work well as a zoner any more. She's my favorite, or close to my favorite, Senran as well. There's a difference between "yuri for the male gaze" and "yuri for the sake of sapphism", or the "uwu wholesome lesbians" kind. The latter is what BG3 is closer to, the former catches bans and censorship. Compare the difference between how the localization in Mary Skelter (Finale) handled Otsuu and Little Mermaid versus how it handled Mary's lust for Charlotte's massive tits. The latter was censored and downplayed as much as possible in the localization.
I'd rather not Compile Heart move in this direction anyway. I don't want them to contrive a plot where they push Blanc with Vert or someone else any more than they already do for the sake of yuribaiting. Blanc has thankfully avoided most of that so far, but there's no guarantee if they do what you're suggesting. I already hate seeing just the fan art. I know I'm not alone in this sentiment either, and thankfully Compile Heart seems to know that.

Best explanation I can come up with is that by the time they were considering more Switch ports, Takaki already left Marvelous. The last Senran Kagura Switch port was in 2018, Takaki left in 2019. He was the main one pushing for the series; after he left, Marvelous did the bare minimum to keep the revenue from the gacha flowing while not investing any more in the series.
Would killing off the gacha cause Marvelous to reconsider a console game? As things are, I doubt it; the environment is simply too hostile to it outside of mobile, too much effort needed to release it, and the audience there, to the extent it still exists, is deeply betrayed and cynical. Their farm sim slop also brings in much more revenue now, especially Rune Factory, which if you remember, during Senran Kagura's heyday basically died with 4. Compile Heart's Switch ports tend to range from mediocre but passable to bad, but Fairy Fencer F's port is uniquely pure fucking shit. It barely runs at 30fps, the textures are grainy as hell, you HAVE to turn off shadow rendering for it to even run passably, it's filled with glitches, and worst of all, it crashes CONSTANTLY, without warning, seemingly at random. It's especially bad in certain dungeons, like the prison ones, one of which is the STARTING DUNGEON. Just recently I booted it up after a while and got a crash within five minutes. Most CH Switch ports aren't very good, but they're not THIS bad. It's to the point I would genuinely steer anyone interested in this game away from the Switch port no matter what, and I just recently double-dipped (something I rarely do) by getting the PC GOG version just so I could have a version that doesn't suck cocks on the regular. In spite of everything, I managed to beat it and clock four playthroughs because back then the Switch was all I had, but if I ever revisit it, I am DEFINITELY sticking with the PC version.

It's a shame, because Fairy Fencer F was, along with Mary Skelter 2, one of the games that got me into Compile Heart. It's a genuinely great JRPG, full of fun characters, a solid, dramatic plot, Fang is a great lead, and replay value in the form of multiple routes. Compile Heart from 2015-2018 were really hitting their stride and honing their craft, releasing great game after great game in Fairy Fencer F, Neptunia VII, Mary Skelter, Mary Skelter 2, Moero Crystal, Castle Panzers and Death end re;Quest. Even the Neptunia spinoffs were at least passable and existed mainly as fanservice for those looking for more after clearing the mainlines, unlike SvS and Game;Maker which are seemingly trying to fill the shoes of a proper mainline and failing horribly. It really seemed like they might rise above their humble origins and become a solid if not great JRPG developer in their own right. Then the Sonypocalypse happened and knocked them flat on their ass, they shit out two of the worst Neptunia spinoffs in existence, the president jumped ship, and now their new guy is steering them onto the "global standards" train while pushing out gimmick game after gimmick game with vastly different identities each time. Modern Compile Heart feels like they're in the midst of an identity crisis; they don't want to, or feel they can't, be an otaku JRPG developer any more, but at the same time, that audience is all they have because they're held in such contempt by the mainstream.

I don't like Nepnowa because they're not compatible at all. While they are friends, they are completely different in life philosophy, goals, etc. Noire can only really tolerate Nep's friendship in small bursts, but living together is definitely out of the question.

If you haven't noticed, the four Goddesses tend to get paired as designated "rivals". Noire is Neptune's designated rival, so that leaves Vert as Blanc's. Which is absolutely retarded from a real life industry perspective; at no point did Nintendo ever consider Xbox their primary competition and Xbox from the start was gunning for Playstation. With these designated rival pairs tends to come some level of yuribaiting. Most often NepNowa, which is even referenced in the games themselves. Blanc and Vert is (thankfully) much more muted, but it evidently comes up occasionally because fan artists latched onto it. For example, in Neptunia U, when not in a group with the other Goddesses, the only characters she interacts with are Rom/Ram and Vert and she has special quotes when tag-teamed with them, reflecting how Compile Heart views and has set up the character groups.

They can't, not without breaking a pretty important rule for the setting. The NEXT forms exist to, per the naming, represent the next generation of consoles at the time of VII's release. So NEXT White, NEXT Black, and NEXT Green represent the Wii U, PS4 and Xbox One respectively (with NEXT Purple as a wild card as usual because Planeptune is already based on a hypothetical SEGA already). But the 3DS and Vita never got proper successors; the Switch is a hybrid console, and Sony discontinued their handheld division entirely (the PS Portal is little more than an accessory to the PS5 rather than a console in its own right). So there's nothing to base NEXT forms for the Candidates on.

I don't recommend VII's postgame besides Senmuu Labyrinth and maybe Neplunker Zero if you have the patience for it. IFI never bothered to bring over the last update patch for the Japanese version, so the Big Metal Dogoo doesn't give nearly enough EXP to get to level 999 in a timely manner, and even if you do, damage scaling for skills past level 99 is broken, making them way underpowered and thus making Colosseum fights way harder and take way longer than they need to (and making the Giant battles nearly impossible).

keep in mind that afaik the only game that actually takes place in the mainline after V2 is SvS, which completely changes how HDD works and doesn't let you customize it so naturally they just went with the default looks. Yeah that’s fair; the successor for handhelds is legit just the switch and the steam deck at this point. Rip the candidates then. But I feel that, for the goddesses, they should always be stronger than the candidates until they step down. I view it (probably most likely headcanon) that if the goddess of a nation was deleted, the candidate becomes a fully fledged goddess and their HDD form gets upgraded to reflect that status and becomes the new face of the console, with their current HDD form being just a power up rather than the idealized form of a nation.
Just a thought there.

NEXT forms were probably never brought back because they’re just not that interesting from a story or gameplay perspective. What do the NEXT forms seriously add to VII that justifies their existence. An idea I had to maybe help fix the issue is to give each of the NEXT forms unique super powerful reality altering abilities like for example maybe NEXT purple can gain the ability to tear holes in reality that allow for extended travel between dimensions but then have major drawbacks such as making the goddess incredibly weak after using NEXT and unable to use even regular HDD for an extended period of time. Gameplay wise give major stat buffs and more than one new skill in NEXT form but make it only last a certain number of turns before turning them back to normal and getting temporary debuffs. I wanna know what ideas you all have for making NEXT forms actually interesting cause clearly compa and iffy haven’t got a damn clue on what to do with them. It actually reminds me a lot of hyper sonic for some reason.

One of the absolute worst and most retarded plot contrivances in the series, right after the Goddesses just got a cool new powerup, all just so they could "apologize" to Nepgear and her fags. I keep saying it, but the way they keep doing this has made me seriously resent the Candidates. And even after you rescue the Goddesses, the next fight disables the NEXT forms because somehow being embarrassed is enough to make the Goddesses lose their powers now. God, for being arguably the biggest marketing point, the NEXT forms were used so poorly in VII. It really comes off like they regretted making them because they knew they upset the balance and the narrative for the Candidates they created with Mk2.

I wonder if they regret making them literal goddesses rather than just more normal queens/presidents/dictators/etc.

Watch them get captured again in Nep 5 whenever that releases lol.

The Hyper Share Crystal is just a regular Share Crystal charged with Gold Third's energies, and "Gold Third energy" itself is just regular Share energy run through an adapter (the Gold Towers) to convert it into a form Gold Third can use. So for all intents and purposes, it's just a really strong Share Crystal and the NEXT forms are available throughout the entire game at will afterwards, suggesting it's supposed to be a permanent upgrade. I think Compa just cucked out for reasons already stated.

Gameplay wise I barely used NEXT form, it doesn't really close level gaps and takes two transformation sequences to get there. And your super special attack forces you back to base form. It's just impractical. Next Purple not having elemental attacks making her useless during the debut is just the icing...
It's a failed concept....

HDD in general is pretty bad in VII. The stat boosts are paltry even with the upgraded Processors (unless you use the DLC processors which are generic and look ABSOLUTELY HIDEOUS) and you have to get to NEXT form to get the same boosts to skill power that came with just regular HDD in the Re;Birth games. So you effectively need two turns just to get the same benefits as previous games. Meanwhile, Gold Third's Gold forms seem to just apply a flat damage multiplier across the board, which ironically makes them much better despite being much simpler and less flashy.
Debuting them against Affimojas was also indeed a rather bad idea. He's the first enemy that has immunity to non-elemental attacks (unless you destroy his cape which takes way too long). You likely used Rom and Ram to take him down in the first fight, but the second fight which is supposed to showcase the power of the NEXT forms and narratively is a complete stomp ironically ends up being harder purely because the Goddesses don't have good elemental options aside from Vert. On a greater scale, this is really the fault of VII changing the way elemental attacks work so that most "elemental" attacks are only half-elemental at best and only a handful of characters actually have true elemental options, and even less have the INT to make use of them. It effectively leaves Rom and Ram with a monopoly over elemental damage. I've said it before, but production values aside, VII is actually a step back from the Re;Birth games in many ways.

Perhaps on a surface level, but I don't like this view of her or Rom/Ram since it feeds too many negative interpretations. Blanc is not supposed to just be Rom+Ram, and Rom and Ram together are not a match or replacement for her. The brats if anything are just simplifications of her. Ram in particular doesn't act remotely "aggressive" like Blanc/White Heart does and is just as timid as Rom when push comes to shove, she's just bratty.

I've been playing Fairy Fencer F on PC. It runs SO much better than the Switch version that it's not even funny. Still, there has been some minor graphical glitches here and there. I heard there was crashing issues too, but I haven't had one yet.
Maybe I should be playing a Neptunia game instead, you know, for Blanc, but I only just started Re;Birth 1 a few days ago and I'm not even at Lowee yet. I suppose I could also play LoveR Kiss, a fitting game for Valentine's, but it wouldn't feel right to play that on a day I should be dedicating to Blanc.
Sometimes I feel that I don't do enough for her.

I personally think that the candidates are supposed to show the influences that the goddesses have on people and their sisters, like Nepgear has to be more reliable because her sister isn't, but also is more insecure because she's sometimes forced to fill the shoes of the protagonist who singlehandedly resolved a centuries long deathmatch through her sheer lovable retard energy alone and Nepgear just doesn't have that because she has to compensate for Neptune normally, Uni is somewhat insecure and always trying to do better because her sister is a loner workaholic and she picked up that she has to be strong enough to able to do everything by herself, and Rom and Ram basically got the different extremes of Blanc's personality. I wouldn't be surprised if Ram was influenced by White Heart specifically while Rom was influenced by Blanc's normal personality, kind of like how I think Nepgear's trying to be somewhere in between Neptune's normal and HDD personalities, and Ram probably became more aggressive and domineering because she was trying to fill her sister's role when she went missing back in mk2(she's not so much now but during mk2 and the beginning of mk3 she was mean and ready to SCRAP)

i think it's a different kind of hostility to what blanc has. blanc's very independent and just about always ready to scrap, but she's willing to work with others and is a genuine comrade in arms. Ram, though? she saw Nepgear trying to save her sister from a kidnapper and her only response to it was "you sucked at it, piss off and don't come back". she already decided that nepgear was the enemy and, no matter what, she just was not willing to even just work with nepgear and the rest as a temporary ally for common goals because she was trying to emulate blanc and what she thought blanc would want her to do. she practically had to be goaded by rom at the very last second to help nepgear when she was already out trying to save all of their sisters and was honestly just about to die trying. i might just be misremembering or reading too much into it, but i think it's interesting when you look at mk2 and the candidates' behavior in it as the negative influences that the goddesses have on their sisters, and how they overcome it.

Honestly my first thought when I saw this was to say that Blanc was not at all willing to help but then I remembered I was thinking of a different one, so I guess you could say Ram was channeling 2010 Blanc a bit actually. my memories of re:birth 1 are kinda fuzzy, but iirc Blanc just had to be convinced to help because she naturally didn't trust her enemies showing up out of the blue with an olive branch and trying to become best buds. the big difference is that Blanc could be convinced, Ram just wasn't going to hear it even when they literally saved her sister from a kidnapper and Rom was attesting to Nepgear's good nature, and Nepgear never had any bad blood towards the twins to begin with, unlike Purple Heart in the Console Wars. I think that the big difference is that while Blanc shown the standoffishness that Ram did, she also had the temperance and wisdom to trust others when they proved themselves and their interests aligned. Ram completely missed out on this, both because she's simply too young to be capable of doing this and also because all of the empathetic traits ended up showing themselves in Rom instead, which causes a problem because Rom isn't assertive like Ram is and Ram is only finding out about Nepgear's character from a secondhand source, namely from Rom whom she was trying to act as a big sister to because their actual big sister was gone and someone had to step up. This isn't to say that they are literally two halves of Blanc, but the extremes of her attitudes tempered and twisted, shown most at the finale of Lowee's arcs when, while Blanc was willing to ally to fight because she loved her kingdom far more than she hated her enemies, Ram would still refuse to fight because of her distrust and her emulating Blanc's independent streak to an extreme. I think it's basically similar to Uni where they had their idolized versions of their sisters in mind and ultimately tried emulating them in the worst ways, unwilling to compromise for the circumstances unlike what their sisters did.

I was actually typing a reply to your previous post to say that I don't actually think the sisters were bad influences, but that the influences they do have cause mixed results. In Blanc's case, she was actually amazing, letting the twins grow up "as kids" and naturally mature to be able to take the reins, but they lost her too early. I might be mistaken, but I noticed that while Uni made a big deal about doing quests to become stronger so she could save her sister, Ram seemed almost exclusively focused on Rom, leading me to believe that she actually recognized her limitations and decided to fully focus on trying to "raise" Rom as some quasi-big sister, leaving the administration of Lowee to more competent people, with the unfortunate effect that Ram probably effectively considered Blanc dead. I think that that's really why she refused to help Nepgear until the end when Rom practically forced her to, because she had already given up and was trying to be a big sister, only being forced to change when Rom began defying her and it became abundantly clear that, no matter how much she tries, she'll never be able to replace her. The game ultimately shows that Ram was wrong because she kicks fucking ass and was far more effective at trying to save her sister than she ever was trying to raise Rom.

I'm somewhat working under the assumption that something akin to HDN1/RB1 happened prior to RB2, but the more important point is that the original goddesses were capable of changing to work together while the candidates idolized their older sisters' independence so much that they were unable to do so for various reasons.(besides Nepgear)

Well, when other waifufags are baking cakes and making shrines for their beloveds, it's hard not to feel a little inadequate...

The battle system is another take on Victory's system, with a few caveats that I feel make it work better. You can have up to six characters active at a time, and switching doesn't use a turn. You can launch enemies and attack them in midair. Transforming is much harder than in Neptunia games and has to be earned, but it's also much more powerful. Every character has a unique action/skill to help set them apart.
The story is a more shonen-esque one with Neptunia-style humor. Fang is a genuinely great protagonist who is both entertaining and develops over the course of the story. Sherman is another great character once you see his various sides throughout the routes.
Speaking of, the game has three story routes, which I think is its biggest draw. You get to see different sides of each character and how they would be in different circumstances. I'm an absolute sucker for this, it's a large part of why I loved Fire Emblem Three Houses. NG+ is not only encouraged but mandatory to enter the third route, so there is absolutely replay value there.
Designs aren't quite as overtly SEXO as Neptunia characters (except Harley) but they're cool and carry over the mecha musume theming from Neptunia.
Overall, Fairy Fencer F is, along with Mary Skelter 2, the game that put Compile Heart on my radar.

I've always wanted this, or for a Neptunia JRPG to have dating sim mechanics. But I think Compile Heart are hesitant to do it because Neptunia has always tried to balance yuribaiting and waifubaiting, and you saw how the former crowd reacted to the Secretary in Hyperdevotion. I like dating sim mechanics in JRPGs in general not just because of waifufagging and fuzzy feelings but also because I like the idea of love blossoming on the battlefield and the concept of the Battle Couple (as the trope websites call it) in general. Fire Emblem Awakening probably put this into me.

It's probably tied to her self-esteem issues in general, but she snaps back at Rom and Ram in Neptunia U over admiring her "Blanc the Berserker" story too much, and the pause screen descriptions call it a critical flaw of hers that she has to work on (contrast with Noire who is literally unironically called flawless and the strongest CPU. Seriously, I'm not kidding when I say when you open your eyes to it, you will realize how this series constantly shills Noire. It's annoying as hell, she's a borderline Mary Sue).

I can never understand why you think this. Noire has fucked up majorly several times too you know. Got her entire nation's government overthrown in Rebirth 1 (worst fuck up of the 4 btw), got hacked by Anonydeath because she was way too overconfident, specifically stated that her nation's people have the worst teamwork in VII (a sign of poor governance and discipline), almost lost to that dragon in the anime, lost all her generals in her own game, was too weak to save her people in SvS (literally needed to be babysat while Blanc singlehanded evacuated all of her frozen citizens to safety), etc.
But we're never going to agree on this point anyway so you don't have to reply to me.
