So I've taken a look at gourmet and apothecary. I think it's mostly worthless (the independent plugin from gourmet that adds cooking stations to inns is good) because it doesn't do all that much. Apothecary disables all fortify crafting effects and switches some effects from some ingredients around. The goal is that the most potent potions and poisons require 3 specific ingredients. Gourmet makes food buffs long term, powerful regen effects and gives alcohol either +25 stamine and -25 magicka or the other way around. Thing is, every mod that adds food or alchemy ingredients of any sort requires patches, same as CACO.You can of course play without any patches but at that point anything apothecary and gourmet do would be pointless and you might as well disable it entirely. If you truly want the vanilla+ experience Skyrim Alchemy Fixed + Hestia would probably the better choice. Hestia adds the alcohol effects from gourmet and adds a meaningful out of combat heal to food items via Skypatcher.CACO if you want a deep dive into alchemy. Cooking is rather ujninteresting from a gameplay perspective because the regen effects are very weak. Hestia can help with that, too. Cooking is nice if you want to have a lot of variety but not much more than that.Patches are easy because there's an automated patch available for CACO, covering most mods that might require patching.

I'm not entirely sure what needs mods I want to enable. Last Seed is very in-depth but it's questionable how much depth it actually brings to the table in regular Skyrim. If you play The Island, Chanterelle (probably one of the older versions) or Shattered Skyrim features like food spoilage, collecting water from ponds and rivers giving you dirty water you need to boil first etc. might make a difference. The wellness mechanic is nice and would matter in regular Skyrim as well.I don't like Frostfall all that much because the design is rather ancient. The script fix makes it rather lightweight so script lag shouldn't be too much of a concern. I like Sunhelm's cold system but maybe I should just play around with Frostfall some more. Another idea might be to run Sunhelm with Boreal Frost, which disables Sunhelm's systems escept for the cold from the get go so there's no overlapping features with Last Seed.I do need something for Experience either way, maybe disable XP from quests at the start since all those startup quests from mods gives you enough XP to level up once or twice before you even do anything.I'd love Hunterborn for Scrimshaw and generally using more loot from animals but it too is ancient and cumbersome to use. Simple Hunting Overhaul doesn't add that many features, sadly.
