Sell me on Avowed. So far it's actually pretty fun, although a lot of the world feels like a set dressing.Also, I don't like the fact that you are forced to play as a g*dlike.
I did hate Irenicus, because he hurts your little sister. A personal, mundane thing like that is enough to make a villain, and if the audience hates the villain, then the author succeeded at making them feel something, which is the point of art.I loved kotor because you discover you are the villain. It may be cheesy looking back now, but back then 12 year old me was on the edge of my seat.I loved Kreia because she was a bitter old Sith doing bitter old Sith things as a result of personal affronts against her, but she did a good job of making it sound grandiose and philosophical. Millions of star wars fans fell for it and still debate her ethos to this day, and a storybook villain who is so good at showmanship that she still has thousands of people calling her smart a decade later even though she was wrong means she was expertly written.But I'm actually replaying the swtor expansions, and Valkorion is kino too. The way he constantly talks to you and is obviously molding you into the next Emperor is really well done. He has orchestrated so many variables to set up his successor and you're walking the entire time through his plan, even most of the crisis you face are his doing, and you both know it. It's really unique compared to the protagonist-villain relationship of most games.

Quibbling over small differences in genre definitions when a game is fundamentally about roleplaying, and has decisions and diverging plot and stats and leveling and those fundamentals, always seemed silly to me.Give Midnight Suns a try. It has party dynamics in and out of combat, a turn based battle system, leveling and ability leveling, affinity/friendship mechanics that affect combat, puzzles to solve, an alignment system that affects mechanics, a few story decisions to make, and many other facets of a crpg. There's also the game actually called Capes.
