I expect Muria to get Serana levels of obsession
what's the best background from the standpoint of plausibly being with argos? I get that all of them have reasons they could be there, but leaving an exciting life as a ronin or cyber runner is more of a stretch than others. >chefthis one feels pretty right, assuming not everyone is just eating chunks, a large operation like that would have a cook so a down on his luck chef would have a job related reason for being there>combat medic/soldierveterans need jobs, I would give a slight edge to medic since similar to a cook, an operation like that is going to want one around so you have a more specific reason than just some grunt lugging rocks>homesteaderyour just an honest joe who needed a job, maybe you were homesteading the previous rock that lin was mining before vectera and ran into her there>explorerthis starts to get into stretch territory but lin's line alludes to the fact you didn't have a ship so it makes sense to join a mining outfit since they move around a lot, plus the skillset actually ties in with the job. This also has the added benefit of explaining why you'd be so gung ho to join constellation >file not foundI wanted to give this an honorable mention. Like explorer fits best with joining constellation in the initial universe, I feel this one works best with becoming a starborn later since you yourself are an anomaly
Are the level ranges for the Basic/Calibrated/Refined tier known?
>>563730337Doubtful. Serana was popular because she was the only follower in skyrim with actual voicelines and content. Muria isn't quite there. And Seranafag in particular has already latched onto Sarah. I don't think he changes targets within a game
>>563730337she's not nearly cute enough and a lot of her lines are pretty bitchymust be weird for the irl VA who is now seeing pictures of her virtual self wearing lingerie and getting railed tho
So this place is just a big tease, right?>scrap metal foundryStill, quite cool. The scale is huge, and I just worked out the exploration percent goes up by walking into the right area, not looting a thing, so that's nice.
>>563730840it's item dependent, but yeah, it's known per item type. for eg you can start seeing advanced eon while the highest a hard target will go is refined or calibrated. inara dot cz slash starfield has the levels.
>>563730816Your alternate reality self tells you that before Argos you worked mining for Deimos, and it sucked. Dunno why there's no option to pick that as a background.
Ah yes the non-lethal DOOM shotgun...The texture on the armor is so bad I'm just going to store it somewhere and forget it existed. And uninstall this Creation when I Unity hop
>>563731354in that case I feel like I might have to give the edge to explorer then, since that doesn't preclude working for a different mining outfit. I get that the alternate universe yous can be completely different, but I think the one where it's just the single you feels better if it's as close to your background as possible
>>563729597Do we need this kind of /tesg/ tier cringe in /stag/? I think not.

I hope we get a colony focused DLC that expands on LIST, and maybe a bit on the Trade Authority and Argos. A small story focusing on helping LIST set up a colony on a planet. Similar to raven Rock in Morrowind's Bloodmoon expansion. Get new features like buildable/customzieable robots, space stations for outposts, starship/outpost blueprinting/ More stuff on setting up resource gathering. Add in the cut fuel mechanic as an optional hardcore setting. etc. etc. That, and a Starborn focused DLC, are like the two things I really want to see for Starfield. As those are the two biggest gaps in the game now that we have stuff for House Va'ruun, and a Colony War follow up.

Why are all ships expensive as fuck, I want to upgrade the shitty Frontier ship but every ship that's actually an upgrade is 130k credits geezIs building your own ship cheaper?
>>563730994her va has a channel where she started playing the game as a mod of her character, and then once freelanes released she played to recruit herself.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0g29vfYffgk
>>563744138>Is building your own ship cheaper?usually, yeahjust go board a spacer ship and land at a spaceport, pay the registration fee (usually under 10k credits) and then edit ityou'd probably pay about the same as a new ship on parts and modules though, but at least you have more freedom
>>563731081there are a few variations of it. Once where its a variation of the robots kill human workers thing and you have to shut them down at a terminal, one where its a variation of the POI with heatleech eggs around the central spot, and one where a terramorph jumps you at that central spot.
>>563735563addressing the issues on PC by now is not acceptable, simply because its far easier and quicker to push out a patch through Steam than it is to go through the console validation process.
>>563742356Your level compared to theirs matters too.
>>563744138Depends on the parts you use. I'm in the process of making a very large c class ship and I've sunk nearly 200k on it and I'm not done yet.

So how did Neon came to be? Obviously they didn't orbital drop the hole thing in one go. It had to be build in stages. How the fuck would that happen?inb4 It just works
>>563758192it do really be just working
>>563758192you land a construction ship on the water and start constructing
>>563758192Probably started as a resource platform mining something valuable which drew in more people
>>563758192Neon started off as a simple fishing industry. They later found out the oil from the fish (Chasmbass) had hallucinogenic properties and decided to build a pleasure city on the fishing platform where the main economy is mostly selling fish and party drugs to tourists.
>>563758192>Obviously they didn't orbital drop the hole thing in one goThe terran armada has drilling platforms with grav drives that you encounter both on land and in orbit of a comparable size.
>>563733172For real. Kind of stupid to think you deserve achievements if you play with mods.>"Durr I play with Real Fuel and Cost of Spacing and actually it makes the game harder than vanilla"If Todd wanted the game to play like that, he would have made the game play like that. You are tainting Todd's perfect creation, and yet you feel entitled to his approval in the form of achievements? Sickening.
>>563759581>If Todd wanted the game to play like that, he would have made the game play like thathe did, but removed it because of casual shitters like you
>>563755909>>563742286very nice build anon
>>563758192For a project like Neon you would want to arrive with enough resources to set up a basic fishing platform and a refinery to process materials so you can potentially expand the outpost. Then you harvest raw materials from nearby planets and haul them to Volii Alpha for refinement (grav drives make this a lot easier).
Rabbit's Real Lights and NaturaLUT really make New Atlantis feel like a real city at night, damn. Bethesda really needs to stop shoving their god damn fake lights everywhere.>>563758192The weight alone of something that size makes it an physical impossibility to drop from orbit, so the explanation could be that they built it in situ slowly. As another anon pointed out, Neon started as a fishing planet so it stands to reason they'd lower some ships and make a big ass hulk out of them like the Asians do. Second, there's one NPC that says that there is land on the planet, just not much of it, so they could've also started there. Lastly, we don't know how deep the planet is, we can assume it's nightmarishly deep with Cthulhu at the bottom but we just don't know. The real answer is that Bethesda probably didn't think about it and just did what they usually do and go with rule of cool

>>563761638If you install the Deadly Hazards mod, Gagarin becomes unlivable because of the high surface temperatures, while Porrima II becomes a death trap because of the high surface pressure. Meanwhile Akila has 1.5x Earth gravity which would make human life impossible. Bethesda didn't really put any thought into how livable and realistic the settlements are.Imagine if New Homestead and Cydonia were just ruined husks you could visit because the inhabitants all left when more Earth like planets were discovered around other stars. >>563762020Because I didn’t think a side quest would need a save file, this is LITERALLY the only missable achievement in ALL bethesda games tied to a side quest! >>563761367Yeah I'm figuring out how to increase the details without just throwing random edge loops everywhere, I can probably add stuff like screw heads without resorting to normal maps. We'll see how it works out, doesn't mean I have to match their poly count but I want to make it look good.

Over a year later and Bethesda still hasn't fixed this. They're just really fucking lazy. I actually do like the game and am playing obsessively right now, but there's a ton of shit like this that just feels lazy and underdone, and it's a lot worse because I remember it from back when I first played it and it's still a problem. I talked to some provisioner at a random moon colony, and I asked him one question and he told me how he really liked this camp, how he had always traveled and he usually went from one to the next every few months but he thought he might make this one home. I asked him the second question, they always have "buy something, first question, second question" and he starts talking about how he has always lived at this camp and never gone anywhere else. I was on a lifeless moon and I talked to some researcher and he started talking about the wildlife. I'll see a military camp and then like 800 meters away is a huge crimson fleet base. I can straight up land on that base's landing pad and they don't even react. I actually generally like the setting, I love this sort of lower tier sci fi and I've played the game probably 30ish hours this week alone, but I really wish Bethesda did a better job with the technicals and paid more attention to the small stuff. Put some more exclusivity constraints on the proc gen to help make the world feel more designed and less random. Individually I'm sure everyone thought they were low impact and wouldn't bother anything but they add up.

But all in all I do really like it. I wish it were bigger and less "video game" i.e. only ever having one bar and being able to just walk up to the literal governor and shit like that, I always want these games to be more of a sim and Todd wants dungeon action games I guess. But I've just been on an extended tour of Sol with Sarah, RPing that this is our extended training tour as she teaches me to survey planets, how to fight and fly and so on, and it's a really great atmosphere. On low g moons I can boost pack away from Sarah so fast that I basically never see her again until I fast travel, they should work on their companion system, but she feels much more "full" than Skyrim companions when we're in some old factory or mine and she has a bunch of different comments for everything. I don't know yet if she's this game's Serana and all the others are more flat or if they're all like that, I never went past Mars in my first time trying to play it.
>>563768486>>563769179youre a breath of fresh air anon. thanks for actually talking about the game
>>563742286cute
>>563768486>Put some more exclusivity constraints on the proc gen to help make the world feel more designed and less random.I kinda wonder if the game would benefit from having the POIs be placed deterministically rather than randomly, similar to something like Minecraft (same world seed) where if two people went to the exact same location on different machines, they'd see the same POIs.However that might make it harder to add new ones, either with a mod or an update. Also I kinda wish they added truly procedurally generated POIs rather than just picking one of the handcrafted ones. Some WFC rooms or something to add a bit of extra variety.
>>563769179I always make a point of exploring every planet I land on, but I don't think I've done the full tour and explored every single one in a solar system, not even in Sol. In 2009 Obsidian programmed Black Jack, Roulette, and Slots into New VegasIn 2023 Bethesda put Black Jack , Roulette, and Slots into their game but as pure decorationRed Dead Redemption 2 managed it. The game is already rated M. There is no fucking excuse
>>563762109>because the inhabitants all left when more Earth like planets were discovered around other starsOne complaint I've always had about the setting, it makes zero sense that anybody is forming these little settler colonies on planets and moons that don't even have breathable air when Jemison is almost entirely uninhabited. Even if you're this far frontier type that wants to be left alone, there are entire continents with a population of zero, and there are many planets like this. Bethesda wanted to treat planets like Skyrim cities and not actual planets, so you get stuff like the late colonists having to work in Paradiso instead of just settling somewhere else on the entire empty planet.
>>563769930thats what i did at launch. im pretty sure i did 1 solar system 100% and then never againit helped convince me the systems at launch, needed lots of work
>>563771723The Paradiso thing kind of makes sense to me. I see the complaint a lot, and I guess I get why it might seem silly to others, but if I owned a luxury resort with more-or-les exclusive ownership of an entire paradise planet... I would not feel like sharing that shit either? Like the whole idea is the untarnished natural beauty of the planet with a little oasis of civilization and relaxation at its heart. As soon as you let colonists start living on the far side of the planet, developing and industrializing, you've lost the entire concept. Now you're just operating a resort on a colony world. The whole leisure world charm point is gone. Irreparable brand damage.
>>563771723>virtually instantaneous travel across the entire galaxy is possiblepeople living off in fuck knows where makes perfect sense, if they've got shipsnot a lot of parked ships thobethesda also could've done a better job saying that being out in the middle of nowhere is lucrative, if it even is
>>563772658While that is true, it's also a problem of scale, planets are fucking huge. Humanity hasn't recovered even to the numbers we have currently (I think they mention it somewhere in the game) and the devastating and horrible Colony War was like 30k deaths or some low number like that. So while I'm not saying all of humanity has to live together, sure you can fuck off to other planets to start your own thing, there's basically no real advantage to living alone in a 5x5 little metal cube in a hellish planet, you'd still want to go for Earth-like ones like Ursa Major II like >>563771723 said and leaving companies and corporations and whatnot to make mining and labs wherever they want because 0 regulations.
>>563772658>you've lost the entire conceptNot really. Nobody is going to care that some other settlement exists on the other side of the planet. This already exists as you can find all sorts of industrial and research whatever's on the same planet. It would be like saying a resort in Florida loses appeal because somebody opened one in Turkey.>>563773063>people living off in fuck knows where makes perfect senseNot the same thing. Living off on some Earth-like planet, sure. Living on Jemison's airless, foodless, waterless moon when there's an entire unsettled planet literally right there? No, that's asinine.
Any recommendations on what I should spend my 1000 creation credits on, after some research I've decided on trackers alliance and McClarence outfitters but I'm open to anything that is achievement friendly
>>563773454I like the one that gives spacers unique outfits.
>kill enemies with negotiator (heavy weapon)>it counts towards demolitions challenge but not heavy weapons challenge
>>563773454fuck you for enabling paid mods, if in 20 years all mods become soulless slop you have yourself to blame
>>563774272>if*when
>>563774272i doubt gaming will even be recognizable 20 years from now.
>>563773454McClarence Outfitters has lost some of its raison d'être with the Free Lanes update allowing us to roll legendary modifiers with credits and x-tech. I mean, it's still cool to be able to swap them out of gear you find instead of relying on RNGesus (or save scumming), but we have other options now. If it's all you can afford after Tracker's Alliance it's probably still worth it, but of the Kinggath mods Watchtower is definitely the better choice imo.
>>563773596I'm on a tight budget so I'm looking for content or something that changes systems>>563774272They came with my premium upgrade, 90% of mods are free, I have to pay for the achievement friendly stuff :(
>>563771723sol system is entirery UC jurisdiction so they will fuck you over if you don't play their game. the whole space being explorable and FTL being free, magical, solved tech means people can just pop in and out so the distance between 2 stars and the distance to the next continent is equal.
>>563774272Those 1000 credits are free, anon
>>563775230FTL is not free in lore, just mechanically for the player (without mods anyway - Real Fuel is a great mod). Like Lin makes a big deal about the Vectera gig buying them enough Helium-3 to travel without worry.
>>563774986>something that changes systemsReal Fuel - Immersive Exploration and The Space Economy are pretty good systems overhauls that are achievement friendly if you buy them as Creations, but they're also kind of free on Nexus and Baka Achievement Enabler exists ("kind of" as in The Space Economy is actually a combination of Cost of Spacing and Cost of Living with some extra features).
>>563775524>Real Fuel is a great modHow well does it work with the latest update?I was thinking about picking up the creation version with my remaining 300 free credits (sadly, i'm on console).
>>563775524helium isnt hard to mine or produce so it basically is free. probably not to a consumer but to an enterprise, it's just another running cost.
