one mechanic that i think would define how modern sonic plays that i would also absolutely detest is something like this:>chaining actions like performing tricks, defeating enemies, and light dashing builds up a multiplier>the multiplier is temporary, fading if there is enough of a pause between actions OR if you get hit>instead of awarding a sum of bonus points corresponding to the length of the chain at the end, the bonus instead multiplies all incoming points while the multiplier is active>performing a long chain in quick succession will increase the multiplier in addition to maintaining it>the higher the multiplier, the more quickly it fades, though the increase in depletion is only slight at worst>completing the level without breaking the chain would boost your rank by one full grade, so B to A, A to S, and S to the exclusive X ranki think this mechanic would perfectly encapsulate the flowstate that sonic games are meant to support in that it encourages the player to do as much as they can in a level in the shortest amount of time without making mistakes - being a fusion and extension of the ring and time bonuses of the older games - while also encouraging replayability through practicing for that perfect run.and that's exactly why i would hate it.

I can be inactive for weeks and /sthg/ will still fill an entire archive pages with posts about me daily. Loving your favorite character as they are is just that controversial.A lot of Shadow fans don't actually love Shadow as he's written. It's more that they love the mental construct they've built around him to satisfy their own psychological needs. To such a fan, Shadow is supposed to deliver a specific "feeling". He makes them feel strong, loved, seen, or whatever other emotional gap they're trying to fill. When you point out canonical statements that disprove the projection, they feel discomfort from the cognitive dissonance. Their attachment to him has become fused with their identity, so if you point out a fact that disrupts the "feeling" they get from him, you're also threatening their sense of self. Changing their view of Shadow to be more accurate to who he really is would be too emotionally difficult for them, so it's easier to attack the source instead (Sonic Team, Iizuka, or any fan pointing out the information). At the end of the day, they're more invested in the role of being a Shadow fan than in the character himself.

>>565651708That's about right. Shipping or politics are the two main reasons. Disliking most Western Sonic content is a side reason. I'm not going to claim to be a nice person. I tend to talk in a blunt or truculent way. But I don't like manipulating or lying to others. It's a bit difficult for me to understand why those accusations increase the more honest I feel I'm being. Maybe it's because the intent is irrelevant or unbelievable to them. The statement is judged by how much it disrupted their feelings, not by what I meant. Or maybe they think some amount of manipulation is necessary to survive and be liked, so the concept of someone telling the truth for zero personal gain isn't believable to them.
