And I'm pretty sure that's just something that doesn't happen overnight and I need to do it more often to figure out what I do and don't enjoy about it and just get used to it.

G'morning /Indie/
>>570010558Same happened to Palworld, and that one doesn't even have a consistent artstyle. I don't really get it, myself.
>>570007504Not either of those anons but just bumbling around nature isn't for everyone. Many people need something stimulating - picking mushrooms, woodcutting, hunting, etc, which is why they end up hating normalfag shit like regular hiking. The mind needs obstacles to overcome, and distance being the only obstacles doesn't always cut it.
>>570010558I think it's because it got just enough interesting stuff to differentiate itself.I got it because I wanted a game like Valheim but with a handcrafted map and on top of that it had the whole invite NPCs to your base thing, which I really like in these kinds of games, because it's always weird to build a big castle and then be the only person living in it.Sadly the game never clicked with me and there are parts of it I actively dislike
>>570011804Then fucking do that and stop making excuses, holy shit. You don't need a stranger on the internet to give you step-by-step instructions on what to do. Christ on pogo stick.

>>570011550>PalworldThat was meant as a low effort copy of ARK with pokemons, even the devs said it. That it exploded in popularity was something that even devman never thought it would happen.>>570012009>weird to build a big castle and then be the only person living in it.You can invite me to your throne room <3
>>570012082That's what you dinguses usually do - you tell someone to touch grass and then that someone thinks moving his legs on dirt is somehow supposed to make him feel one with nature. I understand that, but most people don't.
>>570012836>>570013141Who do you play as in this game? Predefined character or custom? I'm in the mood for some non-gay piracy with a captain whose story I want to write myself, so Windrose is out of the question because it's gay.
>>570012009>because it's always weird to build a big castle and then be the only person living in it.I would agree but games usually make other NPC helpers into hirelings and I don't like hirelings. I want members of my personality cult that serve me out of pure loyalty.
>>570015416>Who do you play as in this game?Sandbox or story mode? Half n half, the actual look and nationality of the characters is prefab and you can pick between a few, but then you can pick their backgrounds and stuff which greatly alters their stat points and special perk and stuff. No actual sculpting their faces and making the neon green goblin or whatever. Only one of the characters, "Charles" can do the story mode as it's his story, but any can do the sandbox. If you're interested I'll give you my thoughts on how useful each of the special talents are or would be and the different stat points, now that I have over 300 hours experience in the game.

Fear of the unknown is such a strong tool for these kinds of games.Except for one instance there hasn't been anything I would count as scary by standards of the few other horror games I've played. But something about just finding random shit that's clearly not supposed to be there and wasn't there before is just so unsettling.

>>570028732Honestly I don't remember for sure as it's been too long and I was too new at the time. I'm leaning on "no" though because the game takes itself fairly seriously and tries to stay as realistic and period accurate as it can, and having people call you XxBasedWeedLord69xX would probably be antithetical to that. Maybe in the sandbox though, that I'm less sure about since it's freeroam rather than story based. Not that that's stopped me freeroaming a fuckton in the story anyway.

I'm continuing to play Nine Sols. I must say, the attacks which are normal-speed charges (NOT "I'm already behind you" BS from boomerang throwers) and ginormous floating weapons are "fair" when it comes to parry. I can parry them 100% of the time without blindly guessing the timing and relying on luck or any other nonsense. For example, I reached the point where I could reach Phase 3 of Lady Ethereal with 100% health.Meanwhile, I feel like stabs from normal swords and stuff are "unfair" parry. Timings are completely arbitrary, you have to guess when to parry, it sometimes does not work even if I seemingly parried it.And don't even get me started on Unbound Counter. If you're mid-air when enemy starts to red-without-green-attack, you're screwed. If there's adds, you're screwed. If there's any other non-ideal circumstances, you're screwed.

>>570124896you beat plates into shape in a virtual minigame for hours on end to make a subpar set of armor in a singleplayer sandbox game
>>570125340who hurt you?
>>570125151The barrel of water is for quenching tool/weapon heads.Quenching them makes the item do more damage or have more total durability depending on whether you cover it with fire clay before quenching or not, they can be quenched multiple times but the chance of the item warping and shattering increases with each quench, especially if you don't temper it between quenches.>>570125340>you beat plates into shape in a virtual minigame for hours on endIt turns out people will play games for hours if they enjoy those games.>subpar set of armorIron plate is the second strongest set of armor you can make in vintage story for now.
>>570125836Quenching is when you dump the burning thing in water, right? I thought THAT was tempering. Also I didn't know you could do that in a barrel, I just dug a hole in my blacksmith and filled it with water.
>>570126023I'm not sure about pits of water but with a barrel of water you can just hold right click with the item in your tongs until it's fully cooled down to quench it.Tempering is bringing it up to tempering temperature and then letting it slowly air cool.I wonder if there will be different liquids you can make and use for quenching that will provide better results in the future.
>>570126285With pits of water, you just press A to dump it in there. Or Q if you're a filthy animal.>Tempering is bringing it up to tempering temperature and then letting it slowly air cool.Ooooh. It's a lot more complicated than I thought. No wonder it's always an expensive upgrade.
>>570126464Tempering usually follows quenching in real life in finished iron and steel tools and weapons and is also much more complicated, as attempting to temper the item at too low a temperature can result in no improvement in material properties and tempering too high can result in brittleness of the finished object for no improvement anywhere else. And tempering towards the lower or higher ends of the desired ranges results in tradeoffs between strength and toughness, with the ratios or even whether or not the process becomes harmful at different temperatures changing based on the carbon content of the metal.Modern smithing and metallurgy is a complex field that required over six thousand years of trial and error for humanity to understand.Tempering in vintage story is thankfully far simpler and carries no risk.
>>570118817I just found out there's another Caribbean Legend game released a couple months ago by a different dev team but published by the dev team that made the one I assume you're playing. Any opinion on that one? I can't make heads or tails of which game is where and what the difference is.
>>570127827My respect for blacksmiths went up a lot, and I understand why it's to expensive to build a smithy in Stronghold.A soldier is 8 gold coins, a smithy is 100.
>>570128173I haven't played it, yet at least, but I believe the primary difference is an entirely different story / set of missions and stuff. The two are based on different older games (Sea Dogs: To Each their Own, and Caribbean Tales 2: City of Abandoned ships) which in turn are both derivatives of the same older game still. It's a bit of a confusing mess but don't mind it, think of them as cousins.
>>570129319>think of them as cousinsPlease, my penis can't get any harder.
>>570129319I'll wishlist both to keep an eye on the discounts. I just hope at least one of them will have a freeplay mode with something close enough to a character creator.I'm just kind of generally looking for some open world adventures with mercenary work and exploration and maybe trading on the side, with my own character whose story I get to define myself. Closest games I have to that are Starsector (getting worse with updates + still unfinished so don't wanna come back to it), Battle Brothers (just generally not very good + protag is an ephemeral "commander" that doesn't actually participate in the fights) and Horizon's Gate (actually pretty good but I already played it for 200 hours and there's nothing left). I keep searching, ever-hungering for more of that kind of thing.
>>570130663man o war corsairif it was good
>>570121807Well, most recently they had a massive sale that ended the day before they announced that the game was dead. Coupled with marketing announcing a bright future for the game in a good old Bungie style. Just another rug pull from Bungie, the fans are used to it. It mostly died because the new player experience is honestly one of the absolute worst in the market. The in game tutorials are outdated, the story content was completely cut but you're still forced to listen to dialogues and watch fairly long cutscenes with absolutely no context or explanation of any kind, the community is infamously toxic, not as bad as eve online or runescape imo but they're still really bad and intentional sabotage a lot of stuff. There are huge gap in progression that was supposed to be addressed but never was.It doesn't help that Bungie actively sabotaged their own game a few times as if they were afraid of being too successful.
>>570130663>I just hope at least one of them will have a freeplay mode with something close enough to a character creator.I mean, how freeplay do you want? Because I haven't been limited at all in how I've been playing even in the story mode, and there's a pure sandbox mode available.
>>570131985We talked earlier. You said story mode has a premade protag and you weren't sure of the measure of freedom given in that regard by the freeplay mode.
>>570131523>most recently they had a massive sale that ended the day before they announced that the game was deadwatAnd I think you're right, I remember trying the game and getting so utterly confused by everything. Sadly can't blame them for their community, FFXIV is said to have a positive community, but you're still told you can get banned if you get rude.

>>570133213>You said story mode has a premade protagYes, Story mode is this guy, choose between one of four backgrounds for different stat spreads with him and take it away.Sandbox has more characters, but can't customize their looks or name.>and you weren't sure of the measure of freedom given in that regard by the freeplay mode.In regards to character customization I wasn't sure, in terms of actually playing the game I am sure. Story mode is a bit like Skyrim, there's a mandatory tutorial section at the start, but once you escape that restriction and exit the tutorial area you're free to go wherever you want and can safely ignore all the quests. There's like one or two quests that are time dependant and won't wait forever for you to start them, but other than that I put off the main storyline for literally two in game years and three IRL weeks before resuming them. Some have time limits, but only after you actually start them.Sandbox is that without the main questline or starting tutorial area, I believe.

With how hard enemies hit in this game and how fast some of them are I haven't dared to explore the caves I've found until now. There's apparently a vast quantity of saltpeter covered rock in a cave directly connected to my iron mine.Seems that angry bug despawned or went elsewhere.

>>570137235Yeah those saltpeter-encrusted tunnels are fairly common in certain biomes. You might be able to find a couple more deposits like that in the same cave system.Exploring larger caves kinda sucks due to the light source economy being what it is.Gotta fight you way in and out every time, or use loads of expensive materials for lanterns, or micromanage torches... or mod torches to last forever. But one nice thing about the grind is that it teaches you the differences between VS and MC spawning algos. Spawn locations aren't completely random in VS. If you spot a place where a creature you need spawns, note it. It will always respawn in the vicinity. Similar radius to mushroom respawns so it's not the most reliable in complex caves.

You change Captain Morgan Smith to Nigger Faggot but the game just reads [If characternamefile1 yes then use "Ah, Captain Smith, I've been awaiting you!" or some dumb shit like that.If a game is built with premades in mind - it's probably built like that for a reason. Else I don't get why devs still do the meme of making sandbox games with black slate protags that are given actual names and backgrounds. It's like Telltale's The Walking Dead, it's an awful way to design a character.
>>570156216Dialogue is another file, just as easily changeable. Source: the exact same thread I got the info for changing the name from. The portrait is probably changeable from what I've seen now but probably slightly harder as that's obviously more involved than simply changing text in notepad.Character model is the only thing that'd be difficult, you could maybe replace it with one or two others already used in the game, but doing anything completely custom for it is something way beyond my pay grade. If there's anything hard coded I can't see it or think of what it might be.

>>570166607YaIt's good
>>570166607YaA central concern in the study of gender and politics is the patriarchal exclusion of women from politics, which is a common but not universal theme historically and across cultures.[1] As the involvement of women in public affairs increased across many societies during the 20th and 21st centuries, academic attention was also increasingly focused on the changing role of women in politics. For example, a common topic in the study of gender and politics is the participation of women as politicians, voters, and activists in a particular country.[5][6] Since that participation exists in some political context, many scholars of gender and politics also study the political mechanisms that either enable or suppress women's participation in politics; women's social participation may increase or decrease as a result of political institutions, government policies, or social events.[7][8] Another common topic of study is the impact on women of particular social policies, such as debates over women's rights,[9] reproductive rights,[10] women in government quotas,[11] and policies on violence against women.[12]Gender and politics researchers have also analyzed the position of women in the discipline of political science, which has mirrored the broader societal trend of increasing inclusion and participation of women beginning in the second half of the 20th century.[1][13]
