The more I think on this intervallo, the more I like it. Aeng-du's argument to Kim in his time of crisis is fundamentally absurdist: he followed his philosophy and principles, his humanity's "flow", acted to his best ability in the moment, and yet received absurd results, which he fallaciously and entirely blames on himself and not the absurd world in which he plays a small part. Literally the Myth of Sisyphus' argument in intervallo form, before we even get to Meursault. I think the director does understand Camus.
