It's not default to anything other than 100% on my machines. I bet your config file is fucked. You know all these builds refer to common config files right unless you specifically run it portably, right? This is not the first time you've been wrong about config files between versions of emulators.

Random catbox builds are extremely ill advised for obvious reasons and cannot be relied on for updates. A maintained fork is necessary.
>don't have the disk space
So you admit the pain in the ass of having to build the stupid thing yourself. Again, it all comes back to the best thing for everyone being a maintained fork. Preferably from someone competent or god fucking forbid, the PCSX2 team. I am not having these issues with Reliquary on multiple machines, however.

>>570531414
The same thing. Those modern shaders try to better mimic a crt. So, just like you would connect many different consoles to a single crt tv, you also use a single shader for all emulated consoles. All you need to do is customize the shader the way you think it looks best. Tastes differ a lot, so you need to find your own personal sweetspot.

The issue comes from PGS and not from the fork:
https://github.com/Arntzen-Software/parallel-gs/blob/main/misc/arch-pkgbuild-pcsx2/0003-Hook-up-ImGui-UI-support.patch
The GPS author only fixed the ImGuiFullscreen and ImGuiManager files, without fixing ImGuiOverlays, likely because it never used that useless crap.
Now, you only need to apply the patch for ImGuiOverlays as well, but obviously it will only prevent the crash and will not implement the useless stats. But lets be honest, no one understand that crap.

This is a modern-day disease unfortunately. Hyper-individualism has completely broken Western societies. There’s no more "collective dopamine", that raw feeling of being part of a passionate group that would genuinely love and protect each other to the death. If you’ve ever actually been a part of something like that, you know exactly what I mean.

It's not that easy right now, there is a virus/worm/bot doing the rounds through shady ads like those found in "downloads" sites, and the thing is circumventing adblockers and shit.
Plenty of "downloads" sites are now putting up big warning messages and removing links to the offending sites. In case you didn't know gog dot to is going down and I think that's part of the reason.

The retard maintaining the wiki should at least do something about it.

I never said I was an individualist liberal fag but at the same time never been fond of hive minds of any kind and the second I detect such I take off.
I'd never argue against being a part of, belonging in a group of positive influences, people that help you better yourself. The problem is what you are describing has darker manifestations like gangs, criminal organizations, and blue haired dolls jerking each other around discord. which ones? seriously, every single console/arcade of worth has already been emulated from almost perfectly to perfectly serviceable, and barring a very few exclusives most if not everything current has a PC port, besides, who cares about playing a badly localized woke fire emblem or a butchered yet-another remaster of dragon quest, (or insert franchise of choice here)

All troons are autistic to some degree and you need to be austistic to care to create virtual replications of plastic electronic children toys, a thankless, moneyless (before Patreon at least) half-illegal task that will take years of your life to manage to have any half-decent result.

The parameters are simple and there aren't too many of them.
And it works perfectly at 1080p, and it doesn't need integer scaling either.

(Timothy Lottes is an engineer who worked for nvidia so he knows his shit, he also co-created that new CRT Beam shader that's just come out recently)

>HowLongToBeat
That site is completely useless and inaccurate. For example if you look up Contra on NES it says it takes an hour to beat.
But that doesn't include the 10 or so hours of play time it takes to develop the skill required to be able to beat it in 1 hour. (unless you're cheating).

Gamefaqs is much more accurate at showing you the length of a game. For eg, it says contra NES takes about 9 hours which is much more accurate. That's about how long it takes to practice it to be able to beat it your first time.

>>

That definitely seems true for older games. HLTB seems to focus on how long is a the "story mode" of the game. But in a sense both are teaching you something the other one isn't. Then again, as a kid, I am not sure if even 10 hours would have been enough for me. Or maybe they were. I remember beating Contra, though it is very likely I used the cheat back then, though, I don't think I knew about it, so maybe not.

Thanks, king! I parted ways with my last crt in 2014, and memory's becoming fuzzier by the day. I remember playing Quackshot with it, emulating through a Wii using component cables. Don't know how accurate that was compared to a real Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, but I still thought it was beautiful.

I'm not too fond of the hardware requirements to properly recreate a crt tv on modern screens, so I just drink the poison and customize a basic shader that helps to liven up the image a little. Glad you liked it!
>>
Emulation can be very disillusioning. Back in 2010 I thought epsxe was the perfect emulator and basically every single obscure game worked perfectly on it. 15 years later we're still nowhere near that and this is a single system out of many.
>>
>>570642387
It had issues with Konami games using the sound hardware funny like Parodius Forever with Me IIRC. Are you saying Med/Duck are worse? How so? I'm sure there's a number of games they run that ePSXe won't.

They generally fall into two categories. Either they've never worked a day in their lives. IE David Kirk Ginder, Daniel de whatever the fuck, Darius Goad aka mooch. Where being handed everything without working for it creates an undeserved sense of entitlement.

Or they're the big fish in a small pond, think Matt La France or stenzek or whatever he's calling himself this week. Or that disgusting slob that got people coffee at Google who works on mGBA. Where their mediocre ability puts them above their coworkers. I'm the head of IT at the Chase Bank branch in Sparta Illinois and no one there's as talented as me. Obviously an emulation vanity project should be a cakewalk and the adoring plebs will kneel at my feet. Then reality hits and they realize they've VASTLY overestimated themselves. But by that point they're in too deep ego wise to back down. So it just sits there forever going nowhere.

Exactly, the "modern left" completely abandoned actual labor reality. Today's "socialism" is just a corporate-sanctioned lifestyle brand run by HR departments and trust-fund parasites. The whole apparatus is a circus engineered to divide people and protect the actual power interests.

>there are certainly chudly reasons to hate capitalism and see how it poisons the well for white working class heteros
Yup, global finance capital actively hollows out homogenous working-class communities and shreds traditional social fabric because atomized consumers are easier to manage and exploit. The European scene has a few guys pushing back against this: like Lord Miles, Frank Wright and Luke Jahn, but the British Isles and Western Europe are so deeply entrenched in centuries of liberal/Zionist institutional capture that moving the needle is brutal.

As for America, you get people like Ken O'Keefe. Dude literally burned his US passport, and married a Palestinian woman, but you have to respect the absolute dedication of that guy. It's rare to see anyone actually walk the walk instead of just "virtue signaling" about it.

Playing LCS' PS3 PS2 classics and its mind blowing how poorly it runs, how was this ever acceptable?
Like the other 3D games run poorly when there is too much stuff on the screen like when you are in an intense gunfight with the cops, so it makes sense then since the same happens on real PS2 hardware, but in LCS, even in closed spaces unless you are facing a wall there will always be annoying frame drops.

how good are the timings in pcsx2/ppsspp? the classic release of gitaroo man has me wanting to replay it, but that game has some tight timings so idk how well it'll emulate. I've got a beefy rig so power isn't a problem, but I remember trying to do stuff like rhythm tengoku or mother 3 on vba back in the day and the emulator itself just wasn't steady enough for rhythm games to play well

I already have it but I missed these options, nice, I'll try them, I hope the scanlines can be disabled (while still retaining the rest of the effects, because seriously I got to hook up my PS2 on a real crt again recently and there's just no scanlines)
>>
>>570847539
Yeah I know what you mean, just set your options exactly like that .jpg. That turns off the scanlines and mask simulation entirely. Just a heads up though, it still does interlacing flicker simulation. I think Themister was trying to fix the interlacing issue that way, so you’re probably gonna want a 120Hz+ display for it to look right.

I tested the Crt options of PGS... Aside from reducing my screen size, Analog path does nothing. As for the crt setting, all he does is making of the game an undiluted wobbling shit. Maybe it look better with 4k OLED 250fps HDR ass screen... I'll stick to regular shader or that SDTV fucker... Or nothing because theses games doesn't need it.

PCSX2 team needs to do what the Ares team did: integrate a low-level renderer (ParaLLEl) and focus on core/timing stuff (EE, DMA, VU, Full TLB support etc.). There's already a librashader PR going on, which would be huge for overlays and that kind of stuff on top of parallel-gs CRT sim.

They’ve wasted so much time with GSdx hacks and fixing upscaling bugs at this point. Just drop it and integrate parallel-gs. If people complain about it being too demanding on the GPU, just tell them to use software mode. They recently raised the GPU requirements for GSdx anyway. Plus, older acceptable GSdx builds aren't going anywhere; anyone still rocking a GTX 750 Ti can just stick to PCSX2 v2.6.3. They were even considering dropping SSE4.2 like, what, 2 years ago? Sometimes you need to drop some dead weight to actually move forward. 90%+ of people have AVX2 by now anyway. What kind of AVX or SSE4.2-only hardware is even gonna handle EE/VU-heavy, demanding PCSX2 moments? And again, those guys would still have v2.6.3 anyway. Bros look, I get it, this might sound like a marketing push for "bleeding edge" hardware but with development being as limited as they are, devs just need to focus on realistic targets to actually improve these emus at this point.

>>570847539
You need MagicGate and a full BIOS dump for that build though.
https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Emulator_files#PlayStation_2

Also, I highly recommend the SDTV Experience preset if you're into 6th-gen CRT simulation stuff without the scanlines. It even comes with a CRT whine noise simulator tool;
https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Shaders,_presets,_and_filters#Quick_reference

I'm not sure you'll even like the SDTV preset though. It aims for the same kind of thing as Themaister's CRT sim, just on an even simpler level. I don't know what you're expecting or what kind of setup you're running, but that CRT sim looks incredibly realistic on my display. It's honestly the best-looking solution so far, and trust me I've spent years trying out a ton of different stuff for 6th-gen CRT simulation.

GS requires nowhere neaaarrrr that. My HD 7870 (weaker than RX 460) can do 2X downsampling but isn't enough for HD, 780M (1060 tier) works in HD, and a 3060+ should allow you to 8-16x overkill everything.

You can build a pc using cheap components.
-You don't need something super expensive cpu to be able to emulate up to generation 6.
-The AMD GPU can be gotten off ebay for peanuts.
-CRT Emudriver is free of course
-A transcoder can be gotten off aliexpress for cheap.
-A component video and a VGA cable aren't expensive. You don't need some retard monster brand $1000 cable, i'm using the cheapest VGA cable i could find in my setup, and it's been working since 2014.

>>
>>570888135
It's probably overdrawing or interpreting them in a less than optimal way. It could be leaning on the emulated CPU more than you think too. I dunno, wrappers are often slower than native as well.
>4K
If that's the actual resolution and not literally upscaling, Xenia uprendering is pretty heavy.

1440p dynamic shadows can be as low as 20fps for a 3080

I’m enjoying it, but the first three levels feel uninspired. You can duck and jump, but so far, I haven't found the use case. The framerate is around 10fps, and most of the time you rely on the compass to shoot during the standoff.

NTA and I don't think GSdx should be dropped, but everything is in place for PGS to be easily merged and it's some Nintendo level contempt not to at this point that it isn't.
>worse than software
No. Even when it's merely downsampling it looks far cleaner than software and there's no contest when PGS renders in HD. He's just fucking around with the CRT/480i sim shit that records terribly.

I simply do not understand being against PGS as an option or being willfully ignorant of its benefits and potential. Either you are a sycophant or directly involved with maintaining PCSX2, or it's muh 4chan culture oppositional defiant disorder bullshit.

Sometimes you have to pick software or PGS because GSdx fucks up (doesn't have hacks built for the game specifically)
>GPU/CPU demand
I'm not sure if this answers your question and I'm not 100% sure what you're getting at, but here's my anecdotal experience with it: I have a weak machine with a low end GPU and CPU that I test PGS on now and then. Valkyrie Profile 2 runs way below full speed in software but comfortably runs in full speed on PGS. There are games that fuck up in GSdx that wouldn't run fast enough in software but would run correctly and in full speed in PGS. PGS (when it doesn't have its own bugs -- it does, don't get me wrong) usually acts like software rendering, but with enhancements and lower requirements if you have a half-decent GPU. An HD7870, a truly ancient and sad card, runs PGS full speed at 1x or 2x downsampled. Also, bloom/post processing heavy games tend to have their effects fucked up to some extent when you uprez w/ GSdx. PGS tends not to have this problem in HD.

It's an option. It's not a replacement for anything; it's just nice to have and has its use cases.

cool, great, I hear ya, I was responding to that anon who proposed for GSdx to be dropped entirely
>it's an option
exactly, it's an option readily available to everyone, so why the fuck do you want this to be merged so badly? just keep using your fork and stop trying so desperately to force it upon others is all I'm saying
if PGS is as good as shills claim it to be (not You obviously), then people will simply start fucking with it more
in my opinion PGS is not that good, and GSdx is not as bad as this general says
>>
>>570863832
PGXP barely works as of now
>>
>>570927106
because it's a nice thing to have, users would benefit from being able to toggle it when they're out of options to get a game working how they want it to, and the work is done. That it isn't in smacks of what we see all the time in modern open source culture. As soon as anyone tries to alter it:
>sorry you're not me or one of my buttbuddies not merging it :^)
>yikkkkes is that AI?? Denied. :^)
>you're a smart guy, can just make your own Adult Swim, Sam Hyde. :^) and you can't even do that if they put a Stenzek license on the code
It's very frustrating to see.

At this point I don't really cry about it as much because DiscoStarslayer has done the needful and will likely provide reasonably up-to-date binaries going forward. The problem was, though, that the only way to get it in Windows was an exhaustive build process or a feature-incomplete RA core.

I really like PGS, but I don’t get why there’s an FSR pass with no option to disable it. Does it even work as anti-aliasing? At x1 res, it looks particularly bad, and if you want x1 for some reason, software rendering is just better. At x16, it looks great, though, I still wish I could toggle it off.
Also, as good as PGS is, if it doesn’t fix a game’s issue, DX11/12 with Reflex will just have less input lag.
And Themeister’s CRT shader looks awesome (haven’t tried it in HDR yet, but it’s already great in SDR). It’s exactly what I wanted except, just wish there was a resolution slider. It gets a lot blurrier and loses the clarity from X16 high-res scanout, which is kind of a bummer.
>>
>>571083931
For the fsr pass, be sure Bilinear filter is set to smooth. IIf I remember well, it's sharp that had the fsr pass.

Can't believe people pay money for emulators. Scams are like 99% successful when they're aimed at this community. It's crazy.

First it was the "upscaler" scam where people were charging like a thousand bux for a box that just takes your old console video output and ads scanlines...
Now it's "FPGAs" that are just emulators that run on a custom raspberry pi and don't have half the features of retroarch.
>>
>>571034643
I'd rather play the snes version at 256x224 on my CRT in RGB. Except with the GTUV50 shader added to tone down the sharpness by juuuuuust a little bit.
Once you find that sweet spot with the horizontal and vertical blur setting with that shader on a real CRT, you will never want to game on anything else ever again. It's fucking outrageously beautiful.
>>
>>571083931
Jesus im so glad i just got pcsx2 running through a real CRT with CRTEmudriver at 448i with component video cables so i don't have to fuck about with all this stuff.
Once you've got one system running with this method, you can then emulate any console that ran on a CRT, perfectly, forever.
>>
>>571089838
>Now it's "FPGAs" that are just emulators that run on a custom raspberry pi and don't have half the features of retroarch.
the video outputs are convenient though if you have a crt, and the small formfactor, and supposedly low latency.

>>
>>571090310
at that point, wouldnt you rather just use a real PS2? not that neutrino or OPL have perfect compatibility anyway
>>
>>571089838
It really isn't quite the same as a Pi. A Pi will struggle on Saturn and N64 for one, because it's just too shitty to brute force those. Two, the means to output component straight to a CRT TV without lag are just built in, no driver/convertor/transcoder futzing. Three, it's the best Saturn emulator, period. I didn't buy one for that, but found it out incidentally through testing. Four, it can achieve run-ahead +1 lag without the hack that is run-ahead. Is that all worth $180 to you, or most people? Is it better than a PC + transcoder? In most ways, no, but it has a few applications.
>>
There is just no reason to buy a Pi instead of some shitty laptop/oplitplex of FBM or eBay. Pis are an absolute waste of time. At least on those you can run ahead or throw an AMD card on it, or use GroovyArcade which is compatible with most GPUs + transcoder.

>inb4 GlideN64/HLE N64 emulation
I'm sure it can do N64 okay through that but that's just not real N64 emulation to me anymore.
>>
>>571090565
I really like the game, but I won't lie to you: the gameplay is a little cumbersome. Donald is far too slow, there are separate buttons for running and attacking (in a platforming game), collision detection is unfair plus big sprites (less room to maneuver) and enemies tend to attack offscreen or having only a small vulnerable area (also, they're almost immortal, can only be stunned).

The developers really knew those flaws, they try to compensate by giving you a big health bar and plenty of recovery items. Many moments require you to fail to learn how to overcome them. It's a bit of artificial difficulty, but it's an easy game overall. After you learn everything, it becomes more fluid and you can enjoy the game's strong points: set pieces, the sense of adventure, varied and well-built scenery, and a very pleasing and fitting soundtrack. There's a high chance you'll like the game, even if not on the first moment. I hope you have a great time with it.
>>
>>571090064
>you will never want to game on anything else ever again
I've become too paranoid for that. It didn't happen with emulation, but there was a thing I did that I'd built a great setup for. When parts broke, it was hell to find replacements, and I became really upset. Nowadays, I just stick with "good, but plentiful", instead of "great, but rare". Where I live, parts for CRT resulation aren't readily available -- and when they are, you can bet they'll be both expensive and in poor condition. :(

Yes. Despite using the word "childhood", those many fights I've seen weren't in schools, but in the streets and bars, with grown-up men. Again, you're right: whatever they were fighting for was *always* extremely stupid. Usually:

>Someone made fun of your favorite soccer/football team
>Someone made fun of another whose wife/girlfriend cheated on him
>They were drinking in group and someone didn't want to fully pay his part
>Someone bet something (soccer or pool) and didn't wanna pay, was moving goalposts or the other part cheated somehow.

Luckily, the fighting skills involved are pretty poor, so the chances of severe injuries are low. However, some will pull out a knife or gun, and that's when shit happens.

By the way, the webm is probably not too many hundred miles away from where I live, so I understand the vibe from it.

File: subjective lag test 1.png (651 KB, 1411x1080)
651 KB PNG
Hello, emubros!
I'm sharing a short write-up of mine, adding to the discussion about input lag. This one is not about measuring the actual lag of your setup (objective), but -- regardless of its presence -- how latency personally affects you (subjective).

### SUBJECTIVE INPUT LAG TEST (1/2)

This one uses Artemio Urbina's 240p Test Suite, available for many different consoles. In each suite, inside the "Video Tests" section, you'll find something named "Timing & Reflex Test". You've read it right: there's no "lag" in its name, because it doesn't measure it.

>So, what's the point?
Picture your emulation setup. There is a computer, a screen, a controller (or keyboard/mouse) and an emulator, at minimum. Put all that together and there will be some amount of input lag (big or small) involved. The question is: does its presence affect you? By how much? That's what the "Timing & Reflex Test" answers.

>I see. But how it helps the player?
Objectively measuring input lag is useful for development and comparisons, but demands technical knowledge and aptitude to build tools which are able to properly do the job. The process demands attention, proper procedure, takes long and isn't in everyone's reach. In most cases, answering the question "is my setup's latency adequate for my gameplay?" is all you need. Subjectively measuring is quick and simple, easily reproduced in many different emulators.
>>
File: subjective lag test 2.png (993 KB, 1411x1080)
993 KB PNG
>>571188012
### SUBJECTIVE INPUT LAG TEST (2/2)

>Right. I may give it a try. How do I do?
1. Download some versions of 240p Test Suite here: https://artemiourbina.itch.io/240p-test-suite
2. Load the aforementioned test and make sure that "timing" is set to "random" (NOT "rhythmic"); follow the onscreen instructions to get help.
3. There'll be one geometric shape stuck in the middle of the screen, while one or two similar shapes keep moving. When they all overlap, press the designated button to register your input. You need to register 10 inputs to finish the test.
4. A screen will show you the results, showing how much your inputs deviated from the expected.
5. If you can place below a single frame, then you're good. It doesn't mean your setup is lagless; it means that its latency barely affects you. Conversely, placing above a frame doesn't mean your setup is unplayable, just that it will hinder you a bit (I've beaten many games using a 3-frame setup, in the past).

>No way! Can't you, like, cheat to get good results?
It's not easy. The worse your latency, the harder will be to get low numbers. The random nature of the test helps to simulate the variety you'll find in a given game. Also, if this test is subjective, you need to take it seriously: it works for you and only you, be honest; another person, with the same setup, can get different results. And do NOT use the test as proof of input lag for an emulator or hardware, it doesn't work that way.

>More information
1. There are other tests, made by other developers, for other consoles and handhelds not covered by the 240p Test Suite, like those here: https://github.com/pinobatch/240p-test-mini/releases
2. Use the "Timing & Reflex Test" for testing after each change in your setup: new computer, new screen, new emulator, new controller, etc. If you know your score, you can tell how each change affects you.

Hope you like it, emubros!

>>571193725
Thanks, brother! Yes, it's pretty similar to the Kirby method, but I think there are some advantages:

1. It's forgiving. You can press the buttons at your own pace, for it's not a game.
2. You can quickly measure a set of ten inputs, the results showing their mean value in both milliseconds and frames.
3. It's more predictable, as you can see the shapes coming closer to each other. In the Kirby game, it's a surprise the moment you have to press the button, so you may lose a few milliseconds for not reacting fast enough.

However, the glaring downside is that the suite is not available for every old console.

for some reason there's a strange noise every 11 seconds or so, in the video you can hear it at 0:09, 0:20, 0:31 and 0:42, does anyone here have any idea what might be causing this?
I picked the "show fps" and "show vps" suspecting it may have something to do, but I'm not sure.
I tried some tutorial for "possible causes" but nothing worked, so I returned the values I changed for the default ones again.

You want Eden for Astral Chain because of the audio desync caused by ASTC texture decoding. Unless Ryubing stopped being anal about it opposed to old ryujinx, you want to crank the async decode to cpu to fix it. Bayonetta 3 will be also plagued with that because of ASTC texture decoding and shader compilation, so you may want Eden too for that.
TLDR: Try Ryubing first, if a game screw, perform badly, try Eden, and I recommend Eden for Astral Chain.

here, I already tried going from cuberb to sdl (as some online guide said), moving the drivers, disabling syncronization, changing the buffer and latency, but nothing seems to change this.
What I noticed (or I may be wrong), is if I go to "audio strecth settings" (the gear in syncronization) and check "use anti-aliasing filter" the noise seems to go a bit down in volume.
>>571252758
>>571234948
I wanted to say is "will this ask for too much resourses? is there a way to tell how much it wants? is it actually worth it? " I just understand it has something to do with graphics, but I'm not sure how it's supposed to "make the graphics better" and I don't mean in the technical way, will I get better polygons? will it use some random algorithm to give me some better looking textures? I'm not sure what it's supposed to do (what does it mean by "blending accuracy", I'm not a tech person).

enable fps counter, disable speedlimit, switch between different blending levels, there is your answer as to how much compute it requires.

try clicking 'restore defaults' in that menu, and then tick anti-aliasing on.

Are you talking about the Neo Geo AES? If so, there aren't arcade "ports", they're the actual arcade games, with their settings tailored for the home market (depends on the effort from the dev). That's the whole deal with the AES: an arcade board at home, as convenient as a console. That's why you'll only find arcade games there. Here are some recommendations I like, more "console oriented", hope you find some value in them:

- Metal Slug series (especially 1, 2 and X)
- Shock Troopers 1 and 2
- Spinmaster
- Ninja Commando
- Robo Army
- Nightmare in the Dark
- Zupapa
- Neo Turf Masters
- Neo Drift Out
- Windjammers
- Street Hoops
- Real Bout Fatal Fury Special
- Garou: Mark of the Wolves
- Samurai Shodown IV
- The King of Fighters 98 and 2002
- Waku Waku 7
...and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.

By the way, the Neo Geo CD was supposed to be an actual console, which would receive Neo Geo ports, with plenty of exclusive games. In the end, support was so low that it had only a small handful of exclusive titles, and most Neo Geo ports were inferior (although a few had cool additions).
>>
>>571277162
If I were the dev, I'd take out upscaling entirely and bury it under an advanced tab with a giant "THIS WILL BREAK GRAPHICS" warning. Literally every 3D emulator needs to do this. The amount of people I see trying to run a game at 4K on their first boot instead of default settings, only to complain that the emulator is "uncompatible with the game" is insane.

I honestly don't remember the CRT look in person anymore, but none of the shaders I tried look natural. Is 4k 240hz OLED the only way to properly replicate the look? I'm mostly interested in PS2 and PS1 games. The shaders work surprisingly well for pixel art titles, but for other games it just looks cheap.

>>571193679
>>
>>571281081
Are you customizing the parameters? Shaders with default values are seldom the way to go. Also, you don't need to perfectly follow a CRT. Just focus on some selected traits that mitigate what you don't like about the raw framebuffer look.
>>
>>571281081
For 6th and 7th gen, never use CRT mask and scanline shaders unless you have a crazy 5K+ display or something. Just focus on simulating signal and cable stuff, maybe with some screen glass distortion and other misc effects that are reasonably realistic to mimic on cheap ass 1080P/2K LCD display.

For 5th gen systems, things get messier. They aren't pure 240p systems like the NES/SNES era, but they aren't pure 480i/480p either. I'd recommend just using DuckStation's adaptive NTSC shader with the PSX border feature (and default graphic options for dealing with deinterlacing+dithering), and maybe add other CRT stuff on top of it from per-game settings to your liking.

For the NES/SNES era, go with a CRT beam simulator-crt-royale-ntsc-svideo if you have a 120Hz+ monitor. Otherwise, stick to other popular presets (like crt-royale-kurozumi).

Even VGA CRT monitors are blurry compared to a fixed-pixel 1080p LCD, which you can easily see if you put them side-by-side at a similar resolution (like 1920x1200 CRT vs. LCD's native output). CRTs just have inherent limitations when it comes to crispness. Average consumer SDTVs are even blurrier than VGA monitors, and on top of that, you have to factor in the cable and signal limitations of home consoles (compared to a PC's superior video output), not to mention the consoles' cheap internal DACs etc etc.

Look, if you want to play old games with a super crisp output, go for it. Upscale that 2001 game to 8K if you want, but just know that isn't how it actually looked back in the day.

Never try to solve dithering issues with post-processing shaders; it never looks right. Just use DuckStation's built-in dither solution instead (which is default). Besides, that shader's mask and scanlines are way too aggressive for a PS1 output anyway.

Switch emu barely changed since nintendo raped everyone. Maybe there's a more performant option now but Ryujinx runs the game the best from what I've tried back then.
4K120 is really easy on the latest GPUs (I think I had a 3060ti back then and I still ran 4K), the actual issue with Switch emulation is stuttering, which is why I recommend ryujinx over yuzu (but for XB3 yuzu was better, go figures).
The other problem is that FPS beyond ~48 made your team's npcs run weirdly, but maybe the people who made the 60fps patch fixed it now, I didn't check in a while.
I recommend grabbing the "unburger" mod for all the games too. There's also mods to improve the graphics/remove the blur that's just not needed at 4K.

It's about time I finished this game too.. it's so long and full of sidequests..

Damn, thank you very much for the detailed answer, anon.
I absolutely loved the game back on the Wii (even did all the subquests minus one that bugged on me).
I probably can't go that far on the performance side since I am running a laptop with a 4050, but 1440@60 would be enough for me.
Didn't knew about the unburger mod, thank you!
And yeah, the stutters from shading compilation are brutal, I was trying Mario 3D World and it never stops.

mmh Yeah stick with Ryujinx and maybe try other Ryujinx-based forks as well (Ryubing and whatever else came out), just launching the game for a couple of minutes to try should tell you which one runs better for you.
The Yuzu based forks (so Yuzu itself, Citron, and maybe Eden?) were much more GPU intensive for this game (also a lot more stuttering), so try them if you want but I doubt the 4050 will cope
>>
>>571281685
I don't use the 60fps patch but otherwise it just werks. Use this before you crank up emulator scaling to what your GPU can handle:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/xenoblade-definitive-edition-config-files.565917/

Open lib_nx.ini and set red_sclX, red_sclY, red_AtMinX & red_AtMinY to 2.0. This will output the game at 720p but with 2x supersampling. The supersampling is just an extra effect, what's important is the scl values making the game render light source effects at highest possible resolution, otherwise they'd shimmer really ugly. I tested it with 1.0 values to not get the performance hit from supersampling but it didn't look right like with 2.0 values. Game version 2.0 works but you can't go back to 1.2.1 and there might be some issues I haven't seen so far so just stick with 1.2.1 which most mods were made for.

You should do the same with XCX and XC2 if you're going to play them too:

XCX past version 1.0 needs an extra mod to load loose files which the Unburger patch already comes with so you can just piggyback if you choose to use it.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/xenoblade-chronicles-x-definitive-edition-graphics-settings.668630/
https://github.com/masagrator/XCXDE-ModLoader
file path with the Unburger patch would be "Xenoblade X Unburger/romfs/mod/monolib/shader/lib_nx.ini"

XC2 can load it from some (not all) of the DLC's mod folder, notably Torna.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/xenoblade-chronicles-2-graphics-settings.529436/

XC3 seems to work best with the "2K - xc3-friends - v2" mod, the "Emu scaler enabler" mod has visual artifacts and seems to cause a lot of vertex explosions.
None of the games like SMAA in Yuzu based emus so either use no AA or FXAA.

>VGA monitors blurry compared to LCD
31khz doesn't have anywhere near the convergence issues and artifacts of 15khz TVs and the higher the resolution goes, the smaller the scanlines are. They're invisible at normal distance at 1024x768, and they do in fact have LCD-level crispness at 1920x1440. Emulators back in the day on CRT monitors basically looked like emulators do now without shaders, just with CRT-level contrast, motion, and phosphor decay. PC games were not blurry at all. Even 320x240 was double-scanned to 640x480 and was a very sharp image with thin scanlines.

prob a stupid/off-topic question but I have a chinkheld that im emulating wii u on using cemu and cemu doesn't have an inbuilt pause feature. is there something like window's resource monitor's suspend feature on android? mostly interested in it because when I close the screen the game is running in the background eating battery like a motherfucker.

There's no such thing as a one-size-fit-all for crtshaders, it's on a per console/per game basic. And once your reach full 3D, it's better to just upres the fucking thing. So, basically, bot a game, doesn't the raw pixel are ok with you? If no, cycle through all the crt presets until the game look good for you. You may also want to check the anti-dithering shaders like cbod or mdapt. Also, beware of SDTV anon presets, he hate color so they all make the image bleached and desaturated. Also, the sonkun presets.

5th gen = downsample; the models too low-poly, the textures are too small, and the HUD is too low-res. There are exceptions (flat shaded games look fantastic with the res boosted) and taste varies, but I think this is a good rule of thumb.
DC & 6th gen+ = upres

Why does PCSX2 do this on some games, when upscaling?
It really looks like shit and I remember this being a thing
>>
>>571298504
Because these game where intended to run at a resolution greater than their native one, so a lot of effects and shit where hardcoded for one specific resolution, son when you upscale, shit hit the fan. That and how esoteric PS2 hardware is and how imperfect GSdx HLE emulation of it his.

>and they do in fact have LCD-level crispness at 1920x1440
Nope. I'm literally looking at them side by side, and the VGA CRT is definitely blurrier, even at 1920×1440 @ 60 Hz with highend Delock adapter. Some OLEDs have text clarity issues, so maybe you're using one of those and just confusing it with LCD sharpness.

I was gonna post a diatribe about PGS vs GSdx but the truth is, this is a post-processing pass the game has even at software/1x. Probably to give the impression of heat haze or remove a bit of PS2-jag. GSdx is actually the superior way to upres this game. PGS in HD will break the DOF, removing its effect on the backdrop and foreground elements will pixelate against it.

Maybe yours is shot. Are they gonna look different? Sure. It's way different tech from top to bottom, but FHD over 31khz is pretty sharp and we're splitting hairs here.
>>
>>571301719
Yeah, PGS HD is buggy on some games, when it work, it work quite well, when it's not, it's not.
>>
Also, The Maister, your crt emulation is nice and all, but, PUT SOME FUCKING NUMBERS ALONGSIDE YOUR FUCKING SLIDERS. How I'm supposed to setup that thing if I don't even know where the fucking thing is?
>>
>>571301891
>Maybe yours is shot.
No bro, I have multiple VGA CRTs (aperture, shadow etc). They're definitely blurrier by nature. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the CRT look over LCDs and I like how they look, but they're def. blurrier than LCDs. Not sure about OLEDs though. SDTVs are way blurrier and that's before you even get into all the signal, cable and DAC stuff I mentioned earlier.
>>
I just use MegaBezels because shaders on every single emulator out there don't seem to work otherwise. They always look super fucked
>>
>>571301719
Between software and PGS SD, which one is more accurate there?
>>
>>571302504
Yeah, 15khz is such a different beast that it shouldn't even be talked about in the same breath. It should be normalized to refer to them as 15khz and 31khz but nobody but me's gonna fucking do that lol. I guess CRT TV and VGA monitor (but these could be flat panel! Maybe VGA CRT) are distinctive enough labels but seem clumsy.
>>
>checked the azahar github because i heard it got better
>80% of the recent commits are ui-related and the issues page is still full of people complaining about random crashes
lmao
>>
>>571302757
Yeah, VGA CRTs are definitely sharper, no question there. I already separate them from SDTV CRTs earlier. For my retro taste they're actually too sharp, which is why I don't use them for emulation. The reason I started that discussion was because some people were saying those shaders make games blurrier. Well of course they do compared to a naked emulator framebuffer running through a fully digital LCD display chain, lol.
