>Are mystery dungeon games allowed in this thread?
Generally yes, most mystery dungeon games(Shiren the Wanderer, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Etrian Mystery Dungeon, etc.) can be considered roguelikes
>Is Elin/Elona allowed?
Yes, they are roguelikes. Please do post your Little Sister farms.
>Is Dwarf Fortress allowed?
If it's adventure mode, yes. But adventure mode is boring. /tg/ has a general for fortress mode playthroughs, but you can share here too!

I thought it was something like B*latro at first, but after looking at its Steam page, it does seem to be a proper roguelike.
Not to say it looks like a good one, le dismantle le capitalism by le destroying le megacorps is obvious neocommie bait and the graphics are utter garbage. I also doubt there's much room for interesting tactical play on a tiny 6x6 board, but I haven't played it so I wouldn't know.

Surprised my random image question got made as thread pic but yeah its definitely a proper roguelike.
The steam reviews hard shill it and oversell it a bit but it is surprisingly good. Its kinda structured like xcom where you have a strategy layer on top where you make bigger campaign decisions, which then partly tie into the main game played on the 6x6 board where you try to get points before the run ends. I thought the tactical play would also be a bit boring, but after playing rift wizard I honestly think its better because every little decision matters and every mechanic ties into multiple others and makes it feel like a very tightly designed game.
I wish it had the build potential of PoA or Rift Wizard though, doing stupid shit like pic related is very fun and that kind of spectacle isn't there.
>>
>>576155191
Please tell me how you got past rift 4-5 using eye of x spells
>>
>>576155862
Probably luck, but this was taken in the demo so maybe the balance changed since then and maybe its extremely hard to do now. Might have been a few components that spawned something which carried along with the wolves
I think one of my items also procced every eye spell on realm entry so I didnt have to spend 3 turns setting them up and could immediately spawn wolves to tank for me

Failed first corp server due to a misclick move. Shame because it was easily won. Though it was cool learning that bind lets you see the cost of programs even when they are encrypted so you can use educated guess to work out what they are, and also helps securing cheap progs for the password. Very curious what solving this password is going to do

I've been playing CDDA for the first time. It seems very slow and hard to do anything. Now I'm reading about how there's been weird bad updates for years, where devs try to add/remove/nerf something based on realism, but they don't actually know about the subject in question, so it comes out stupid, everyone is against it, but it gets merged anyway. The one with tires seems the dumbest.

Should I just be playing forks instead? Is DDA basically a legacy thing now?

This is the best advice. It's just hard sometimes. Play the games before you, not what's in your head.
>>
>>576166924
I don't really follow the latest drama but at least for the tire shit, that's only in the experimentals for now and not the latest stable. The latest stable also came out like 2 months ago and stable releases seem to be a least several years apart so if you don't play on experimental (which tends to be buggy anyway, though it does have more new content) you're safe to drive over stuff for a good while.
You should keep in mind that while there are issues, people like to blow shit out of propotion, particularly if they want to shill their "cooler" fork by contrast.

DDA is quite slow compared to most games if you play it like most games. Particularly, you'd expect to find a use for most items you can get access to. But it's the CBT way to play dda because you just turn into a loot goblin, eternally hoarding junk you don't actually need, and spend an eternity looting the places you clear. Then spend another eternity sorting all that shit in your goblin cave and god forbid you're one of those people who needs to put all the aspirins you found this run into your labeled jerry can with seven liters worth of aspirin pills you collected before, which is neatly stored in the oversize metal box labeled "medicine" on a nice shelf. When you're very likely to find enough codeine (which is strictly better because it's both strong and doesn't give a minor "-" to your health stat, making weak painkillers 99% useless at any point) when looting your second or third bathroom on day one for a week of use, and by the end of that week you'll have enough codeine/tramadol/oxycodone for the rest of the year. The most important thing you can learn playing the game is what you actually need and what to ignore, in my opinion.
>>
>>576172958
>The most important thing you can learn playing the game is what you actually need and what to ignore, in my opinion.
Got a CBM that makes me not need to pick up pain killers at all early a recent run
Now I'm just waiting for the CBM that makes calories, water and vitamins so I don't need to loot those things ever again too

I like the idea of playing Cataclysm, but I always have the same problem. I download the game, create a character, spawn in, and then I walk around for a while, see I have no immediate goals (I have food, water, shelter, and a weapon most of the time), and I close the game.
Is this type of game just not for me, or is there a particular way to play to avoid this? I have the same problem with zomboid, but not with suvival games in general (where you start with nothing).
>>
>>576182381
>is there a particular way to play to avoid this?
Disable metaprogression, pick a Labstart scenario and clear the lab you start in. Ideally you'll find a visitor's pass and can find another lab to clear out. Keep doing this and you'll eventually find the closest things this game has to endgame bosses, after which you can (hopefully) close the game without regret.
>>
>>576183376
I'll try that start thanks. What's metaprogression? Because if it's something similar to a plot that develops as you play, that's actually a plus for me.
>>
>>576183537
>What's metaprogression?
An option in world generation which unlocks more starting professions and scenarios as you find them for the first time, much like a plot that develops as you play, yes. Unfortunately it also means you can't spawn in a lab until you find a lab as a different character first. Searching for normal labs on the ground is tedious and involves nothing but overmap exploration, but there is a guaranteed lab that spawns somewhere in the subway layer that you can look for as well.
>>
>>576184209
I see. Thanks. I think I'll hold off for now. I also didn't read the spoiler. I started another random scenario and got engaged in it trying to leave the starting building, so I'll poke around a bit more before giving up this time.

Press N to view conditions. Modify your sidebar (unbound by default - press ? to bring up the keybinds page and add a keybind for Sidebar Options) and replace Health with Health (self-aware) to see exact numbers for your limb hp.
>how do I answer these basic questions other than pestering the thread?
Just ask in the thread, blogposts help with not getting bumped off and it's better than posting on some cesspit like trooncord or plebbit. The pasta in OP is ancient, so a lot of it has outdated information, though general info like how encumbrance and focus work should still hold true.

Chain lightning, fireball, watcher form, fae garden and the eye equip that grants your summons your eye enchantments is very overpowered and doesn't take too much to get going. Then you can add holy watcher, threads and silver spear with remove resists upgrade

In cbn is there any downside to taking control of a npc via debug?
My guy got brutalized by a hulk at night, multiple broken bones. But I got out of there and got back home. Now I've gotta wait to heal. I figure instead of wasting time doing nothing I could temporarily take control of the npc instead, but attempting to do stuff like drop a wielded item throws an error. I assume save/loading will fix this error? but would there be any long term consequences from doing so?

Speaking of npcs in BN, is there any way to keep the fuckers doing their assigned tasks when I'm sleeping or away? They always stop working/reading and either return to me or idle in place.
I'm playing with the blood moon mod so it's good to have NPCs working on shit constantly to prepare for the blood moon, but they've got a lot of downtime since I'm often away on loot runs or sleeping after returning.

Is there anything I should do before tomb of the eaters quest? I have all crysteel armor and weapons, a force bracelet, akimbo blue weird looking lazer shot pistols with blood batteries for refilling off of dismemberment with 4 axes and 2 wrist blades swinging at once. I've gone down to depth 25 at the stilt with a couple spiral borers but got bored since the caves seem like an after thought in this game. Kind of an uninteresting game overall and I don't see how a different build would help. The fungal forest was the most exciting part after being disarmed of all weapons by a group of sludge things and screen cheesing to get them back. I know there is another tier of armor and weapons but I'm not sure if it's worth trying for them underground. Combat has been pretty boring with either stomping enemies or not able to over come them at all until weapons have been upgraded to the next tier. I went from hills and canyons (stomping) to jungle (run around looking for next tier) then never dying in the jungles after getting next tier. Same with jungle to deep jungle. I think I'm having a bit of sunk cost fallacy.

Yeah that explains why it felt slow, I was sorting food into an extra backpack on day 1 and wondering "is this what experienced players are actually doing"

so when looting in CDDA, it's better to just go out loot-shopping for specific items rather than looting everything?
I guess that also explains why combing towns feels unfeasible, with massive zombie numbers and rapid weariness accumulation, since you're not actually supposed to loot all the buildings
>>
Playing BN and just cleared a Fema camp. I've never really used guns but with this 100 round mag in my rifle I was able to nuke everything. I looted ammo and a bunch of crap but I'm trying to keep it lean this time, to many playthroughs I snort up all the loot and never use anything . Only thing I'm looting is spares of armor for me or a follower if I pick one up. The rest can be trade fodder or scrapped.
I have the hub and the center close this time, I swear this is the first time I've seen the hub in a game for a while. I am basing out of an evac center and my truck is starting to fall apart, I want to get a motorcycle if I can.
Using a fire axe right now but Id like to go back to ol reliable soon, combat chainsaw mostly for the cool factor.

Towns/cities are extremely easy to loot, all you need to do is go in the dead of night. Hug the buildings and slip through/around them to lose any zombies you encounter. Fighting is pointless unless you really want to clear the town for some reason. You'll never get anything worth the investment and you can loot the good shit without fighting at night.
>>
>>576238715
>so when looting in CDDA, it's better to just go out loot-shopping for specific items rather than looting everything?
Imo no, i loot EVERYTHING.
You never know when you may need a random funnel, test tube or rubber gloves. Everything has a purpose, and those that dont can be turned into items with purposes ie electric hair trimmer into electronics.
>>
>>576247738
This. The trick is to not bother with sorting things. Just get a big cart, dump everything you think might be needed later, dump that into your truck when it gets full, then dump your truck's stuff into your house when the truck gets full.
No sorting. That's a waste of time. The only thing that needs to be put in its place is food since it spoils fast without a freezer.

If I've learned anything about RW3 it's that you never fight this guy on realm 5. He fills the entire level with slimes every 4 turns, heals nonstop, and reduces your max HP. It's not that he's unkillable (although he very often does just tank every spell charge you have). He literally makes you weaker because you chose to go to this level. You can beat him and be so hobbled that you lose on realm 6 or 7 anyway.

Do not ever fight the bloody horse. It is a bad fucking idea. Reroll and fight literally anything else.
>>
>>576256273

>>
>>576248447
you'll get an encumbrance penalty if you use a bandoleer.

You could technically be rocking some pretty heavy armor while wearing this too.
>>
>>576250906
Yes, but its perfect for zombie genocide. The military base has tons of basic ammo, and there are two gunstores right next to each other.
>>
>>576260843
if you are just talking about killing surface zombies than any configuration of equipment on your character is inferior to simply using your car. Any decently reinforced car with a roof mounted M249 + whatever other weapons will kill any overworld enemy easier and faster than anything you can do on foot.
>>
>>576260934
I like getting up and personal. I haven't built my deathmobile yet.
>>
>>576260997
well regardless you should prioritize making a survivor belt if you are playing dda, or whatever they call it now the handmade utility belt. for whatever reason the belt loop it has is the only one in the game that can carry more than one item, so you can carry almost every important tool on that one loop. then on top of that it has an integral holster and sheath, and 6 pouches.
>>
>>576261206
all the molle stuff you attach to your kit gets a bonus to reloading and readying weapons. The survivors belt is just a bunch of pockets, ammo pouches give a quick draw bonus when you pull magazines from them.
>>
>>576261307
it's still by far the most efficient belt in terms of storage per encumbrance. The holster and sheath alone provide that but the tool storage is huge, it makes carrying a hacksaw and crowbar on your person at all times trivial. The slight move cost penalty to the pouches vs molle would probably never matter in regular gameplay, I use them for storing grenades and pistol mags.
>>
>>576261463
haven't you ever used the molle webbing belt?

It has four belt clips and four molle compartments, you can stuff an axe down your trousers along with half a dozen other tools.
>>
>>576261206
>he belt loop it has is the only one in the game that can carry more than one item
either your misinterpreting something or thats a bit of an exploit, i don't think your supposed to be able to use belt loops that way.
>>
>>576261632
right, but the encumbrance penalty for it is gigantic. the survivor belt maxes out at 6 encumbrance. a fully loaded molle belt with added pouches can easily be 15+. That's why using tons of molle pouches in general is not worth it. you can use one or two for emergency reload mags but aside from that the encumbrance tradeoff is not great.
>>576261708
I'm not misinterpreting it because I have been using it in game for years at this point. I load it with a hacksaw, crowbar, adjustable wrench, screwdriver, hammer and a folding knife.
>>
>>576246453
I mean, sure, if you just want to play a survivor its overkill. But if you just want to kill all the zombies it makes the best use of the ammo you got at the military base.
>>
>>576261770
there is no encumbrance penalty for the molle belt if you don't have anything else on your waist, and its normal encumbrance is not a whole lot. (Not your hip, your hip is part of your leg)
>>

>there is no encumbrance penalty for the molle belt if you don't have anything else on your waist,
I'm talking about the penalty it has vs using the survivor belt. an equivalent loadout on a molle belt will have significantly more encumbrance than a survivor belt. Adding a holster and sheath alone to a molle belt puts it at the same encumbrance as a survivor belt.
>>
>>576261770
>I'm not misinterpreting it because I have been using it in game for years at this point. I load it with a hacksaw, crowbar, adjustable wrench, screwdriver, hammer and a folding knife.

maybe its just a strange mechanic.

I mean, sure, if you want to do the shoot and scoot, build yourself up from base 8 stats survivor on the hardest scenario, its a bad loadout.

But if you just want to go around killing every zombie and monster you see, its pretty fun. You don't have to run from zombies anymore, you can just mow em down like an action movie.
>>
>>576261980
You don't add a holster or sheath to your molle belt, you wear them each seperately on the hip, so the legs take the weight instead of the torso.

You see how my build puts the kukri and the concealed holster on the same hip? thats cause one is a skintight layer and the other isn't, You see those little + marks on your enumbrance? thats what you get when stacking more than one item on the same layer in the same location.

Instead of carrying all my tools in a belt i tend to just wear a backpack and stuff everything in there, then drop it on the outskirts before a fight and come pick it up when i'm done fighting.
>>
>>576262301
>You don't add a holster or sheath to your molle belt, you wear them each seperately on the hip, so the legs take the weight instead of the torso.
yes anon I am aware... the point is that the belt is the most efficient method for putting a holster and sheath on your person regardless of what you intended total loadout is. If you want to wear more holsters or sheaths you can, but it's simply not a matter of opinion that the survivor belt is more efficient to wear than a molle belt or literally anything else in the game in the waist slot.
>>
>>576262363
If you mount the holster and the sheath on a molle belt or use the one that comes with the survivor belt, i'm pretty sure the encumbrance goes to your waist, which is your torso, not your legs.

I don't wear a belt because the torso is already heavy enough, adding waist encumbrance just adds more torso encumbrance.
>>
>>576262494
And what is on your torso? and how much encumbrance total?
>>
>>576262363
i mean the survivor belt sounds like good gear for sure. I'll probably be singing a different tune once i start running out of ammo, but hopefully i'll find / make more.
>>
>>576262532
I think its like 18-20?

its all the stuff i listed here
>>576246453

the weight in the torso is usually defrayed somewhat by wielding the weapons your using in your arms.
>>
>>576262816
I'm not at home right now or I'd send you a screenshot.

Want to post your inventory and enumbrance?
>>
>>576262816
the double rifle case and the heavy load bearing vest with sling would put you over 18-20 by themselves, it has to be substantially higher than that even if you are running around naked aside from the gear listed.

In fact assuming all those pouches are attached to the vest I'm estimating the vest alone to be 25+, that's crazy.

I would say drop the bandoliers and shotshell pouches entirely and instead carry loose ammo in some pocket with spare room. The pistol bandoliers in particular seem useless, when are you ever going to have to reload a revolver 6 times in succession as quickly as possible? To my mind the only use for carrying a revolver like that is as an emergency backup against an armored enemy, in which case you aren't going to be reloading at all unless you want to be eaten alive regardless of where you store the rounds.
Same for the mag pouches, I would go down to a medium load bearing vest and cut the mags in half, if you must carry that much ammo carry the excess in pockets/backpack either loose or in clips.

The shoulder holster is also a great option because it's a holster with a baked in mag pouch equivalent to a chest mag pouch, so you can drop one of the holsters and pouches with that.
>>
>>576262816
>>576263274
I'm not playing the game right now so I don't have a character to show you, but for reference what I typically use is:
survivor runner pack/armored runner pack
shoulder holster
survivor belt with a kukri in the sheath
scabbard for some kind of sword on one hip
large holster on the other hip

one rifle either 5.56 or .308 depending on what I happen to find, if I want more mag storage I will use a leg ammo pouch
In the large holster use either a 9mm glock with every attachment and a large mag, or a sawn off double barrel shotgun
in the belt holster some kind of larger handgun usually in a higher caliber like a .45 usp/mk23 depending on what's available
then in the shoulder holster another 9mm handgun.

I keep stripper clips, the kind you get out of military ammo cans, in the survivor belt pouches because you can fit more ammo in less volume that way and the clips still reload mags quite fast.
>>
>>576263274
The more ammo I carry, the more zombies I can kill before I have to head back for more. The more types of ammo I use, the more types of ammunition I can use up.

The encumbrance is not that bad, unless your going to try and do martial arts. I suppose its a lot of weight if your not playing a strong character, i don't know if you use point pools or limit yourself to role play.
>>
>>576263708
>The encumbrance is not that bad,
what do you use for armor?
>>
>>576263602
why do you need a kukri and a sword? martial arts?

do you mount a sling on your rifle? do you wear it on the front or the back?

thats a lot of handguns. Why would you take two 9mm handguns?
>>
>>576263806
If I want to use armor I switch out the heavy load bearing vest for ballistic armor or heavy ballistic armor and a molle beltt, there is usually some heavy ballistic armor and intact accessories on the corpses in the military base.

I was going to wear it with Sheet Metal Armor but I felt like I didn't really need armor, at least not yet. Your not really in a whole lot of danger so long as you don't draw too much aggro or run out of ammo, since your clearing zombies instead of skirmishing with them.
>>
>>576263992
I always use melee for trivial enemies like random zombies, and I always carry two weapons because the primary will occasionally get damaged or if you get in trouble you can be forced to drop it. In fact I usually carry three melee weapons, a knife, a sword and some primary that I only carry in hand, either a spear or some other large weapon.

rifle has a sling yes mounted in front to avoid the backpack.

handguns again depend on the situation, the regular 9mm in the shoulder holster is basically just a backup in case of getting grabbed and unable to wield a rifle. The sawn off double barrel is similar, firing both barrels at once can eliminate most threats outright, even armored enemies if you have slugs. The alternative in the large holster of the modified glock I only use if I can find a very large mag like 33+, because at that point it functions more like a compact submachine gun. The .45 or whatever it might happen to be I use primarily to take out trivial enemies that are bad to fight in melee like boomers, or as another emergency backup. If you really get in trouble like getting grabbed by a bunch of mobs you can't reload, so having multiple guns allows you to simply drop them when empty and draw another one which has saved me many times.
>>
>>576264208
I think the most tedious part of the military base start is the cleanup after. You got to gather up all the military ids to open all the locked doors, theres always a few stragglers by the gate and by the walls, you got to do a house by house sweep and you can never really be sure you got them all, then you gotta take your tools and patch up the holes in the walls, clear out all the cars near the gate that are busted or not working, find a solar panel, drag home a fridge cause there isn't a single freezer in the entire base, gather up all the food before it goes bad, (especially all the egg cartons), set up the battery and the panel. (I always make the mistake of setting it up on the roof of the warehouse, i don't think it tracks the fridge tempature well in different z levels or outside your reality bubble.

By the time i'm ready to go hunting zombies I'm pooped. Still haven't made deathmobile despite having all the materials.
>>
>>576264315
you ever make a pipe shotgun? if you have some spare ammo you're not using and some used shotgun shell hulls you can dissasemble the bullets and reload the powder and primer, its not super complicated cause there is a thing called a makeshift shotshell press, its not super hard to make.
>>
>>576264832
you can also mount pipe shotguns under your rifle as a mod if you have the right tools. you change what mode your using by pressing f to fire and s to select which mode. don't forget to switch back if your using a grenade launcher, it can really screw you.
>>
>>576264208
Sheet Metal Armor is meh, but you can harden it and turn it into Hardened Sheet Metal Armor, gives 15 all round protection with great coverage.

Sometimes i forget to deconstruct a tank outside a barracks and drag those metal tanks around to empty out all the fuel from the cars, because if you don't get it quick it will start to leak if the gas tank is broken. between all the cars and vehicles there I got like 120L of diesel.
>>
>>576263602
If you can craft / find them, you could use a concealable holster or ankle holster, or an ankle sheath for your kukri. putting the weight on your feet or legs helps distribute the load. The large holster covers both your hip and thigh, so if you try to strap something to that leg on the same slots you will get an encumbrance penalty.

The + value you see after encumbrance on a location scales to how much total encumbrance you wear on that location, thats why its such a nasty penalty.
>>
>>576265485
If you were to strap a garter sheath and a concealable holster under you large holster, it would still add encumbrance value, but there wouldn't be the additional + penalty on your leg.
>>
>>576265485
torso encumbrance is usually better than leg encumbrance in every scenario except melee, leg encumbrance slows you down among other things. foot encumbrance is even worse, usually you want to avoid foot encumbrance as much as possible.
I don't use the concealable holsters because I use some kind of skintight bodysuit always, either the flame resistance suit or the later game nomad suit or whatever they are called. either way I find 3 holsters to be plenty. The large holster I use because it's the only way to fit larger weapons like the double barrel, and there aren't many useful thigh pouches anyway. It's pretty much just the leg ammo pouch, a drop leg pouch, or a throwing knife sheath.
>>
>>576245327
>What's the point in CBN if its too easy to do anything.
Yeah, that's its biggest problem.
>>
>>576265675
its still better to have a little encumbrance on each location than it is to have a lot on one location. the amount of encumbrance you get for an ankle sheath or ankle holster is very small, 2 or 3. If your encumbrance is yellow that means your struggling, if its red that means your really struggling.
>>
>>576266032
>its still better to have a little encumbrance on each location than it is to have a lot on one location
not really, like I said the speed penalty from leg/foot encumbrance is way worse than any of the penalties you get from torso encumbrance. in fact the game incentivizes you pretty strongly to centralize your encumbrance on the torso. The only significant penalty from torso encumbrance is for melee combat, but as I said I only ever use melee on weak enemies anyway where it doesn't matter. The only thing I will ever equip on feet is socks and boots, anything else is not worth it.
>>
>>576246453
>seven different ammo calibers
Logistical nightmare. Have you actually used all these guns in combat?
>>
>>576266032
the problem with concealable holsters, belly holsters, and ankle holsters is that they are really small. they won't even take a .357 snub, which is stupid because i own a .357 snub irl and it fits just fine in my ankle holster. You can still stuff a glock or other compact in there.
>>
>>576266172
yeah, its fun.

i'd mostly been using the 5 shot sniper rifle but that ammo is pretty rare so i'm going to start saving it.

It works really well once you know the system. A place for everything and everything in its place. The trick is to clear and hopefully smash before looting, then come back with your backpack and your truck if you got one.

I don't like the blob lore in BN. It should still be an organism instead of just netherstuff.
My in game fit right now is the crit solder suit and a crit trench. The trenchcoat ,while very cool, causes leg encum. Its in the teens enough to make the text yellow so I might want to swap it out. Speaking of the CRIT mod it has a handful of cool items but so much is OP, I think I'll disable it next game.

My car in game is almost dead so I think I'll visit this military base I saw and check for a nice car. Clearing out a fema camp netted me a Barrett 50 cal which will deal with the turrets perfectly. Ill bring some torches to cut my way in and try not to die from a hulk.

From what I know of DDA blob lore, it feels like they made it far too human for a story like this. Like, it's not just spreading because the Xedra researchers poked a hole into space, it's actively trying to conquer new dimensions. It has comprehensible motives that it's pursuing with apparent intelligence.

Iirc, even the no sunlight thing can be worked around if you have total coverage, which is what you want anyway.

My quest for a motorcycle in cddabn continues. I finally located one by a movie theater but it's a hike, I'll have to leave my beat to shit truck at home. I kited all the zambs away so it should be ez to get to, hopefully.
I'm still looking for the hatch and I know where I can find a mininuke. So one part of end game is done.
Speaking of beat to shit trick it stranded me, again. The battery took damage when I hit something and drained while I was looting. NTA but last I checked it, from my understanding, the blob is just trying to spread but it's intelligent enough to do it strategically. It's capable of influencing separated parts of itself at a microscopic level so they moment it became aware of our reality it was super fucked. It could crush the player character in an instant if it cared but it's so fuckmegahueg that anything we can do in game isn't even remotely a threat to it, the thing is supposed to be so massive it takes up entire star clusters. A single planet is relatively smaller to it then a blood cell is to your entire body. You'd have to have a way to destroy multiple galaxies at once to start tickling it.

What about TLG? I've heard different things online, some people saying it is more hardcore than DDA, and others saying it is a mix of DDA and BN.
>>
>>576499545
TLG is much more like DDA than BN. In some ways it's attempting an even more realistic approach than DDA but it also is cutting a lot of a bloat and other tiresome qualities of DDA. It has its own unique 'realism' based mechanics that you may enjoy or find annoying, for example your clothing can get filthy in combat requiring you to regularly wash your gear, something that never happens in DDA. You can't traverse vehicle tiles if there is too much item volume in the tile, which changes how you can build and design vehicles. You can slip and fall on things like boomer bile, and so on. It has a few unique combat mechanics as well, probably the most relevant being the ability to grab and throw enemies, which sounds cool but I did not find too useful.
It also changes the setting to remove even more of the wacky sci-fi stuff, I think it's going for a more classic zombie setting with the only sci-fi edge being the Black Mesa esque XEDRA instigating the apocalypse, so no Exodii and all the other DDA specific setting stuff.
>>
>>576499545
>>576500587
TLG is also going for pretty significantly higher difficulty. Almost everything you can think of is nerfed for the player. Character creation is nerfed with some of the best traits removed and the rest of them nerfed for example Tough is only a 10% hp boost instead of 20%, strong back is only a 15% carry weight boost instead of 35%.

Armor is nerfed, nearly every armor item in the game has its armor value significantly reduced vs DDA and the coverage is also reduced, 100% coverage armors are very uncommon in TLG. Many of the items that used to provide armor don't anymore either, e.g. the nomex firefighter suit is one of the best pieces of armor in DDA but has zero armor in TLG. Most weapons are nerfed, the highest damage weapons have like half the damage of their DDA equivalent.

Probably most significantly, item and equipment spawns are severely nerfed, finding a single solar panel in TLG takes a long time. Ammo is much more rare, most of the big ammo loot drops from DDA are gone. Food is more difficult to get. If there is an item that is useful it's probably hard to find in TLG.
>>
>>576501841
I'm getting flashbacks of having to scour 5 towns to find a welder in Whales' Cataclysm.
>>
>>576502834
yeah of all the changes in TLG that's what I dislike the most. It takes so long to find important items and so much longer to maintain food and resources that it feels like you never leave the early game.

>the thing is supposed to be so massive it takes up entire star clusters

anything that massive would collapse in on itself and form a black hole.
>>
>>576505896
It would be so incredibly absurdly massive that it doesn't even make sense within physics as we know it. the sheer gravity from a concentration of mass like that is beyond incalculable.

Can you somehow break the ceiling in DDA? I started a backrooms run and I'm finding it hard to get electricity going.

I found a few vending machines with gas and diesel in glass bottles, a chainsaw I can decon to get an engine, and I set up a frame with a tool battery mount and a big tool battery. But I can't craft an alternator to actually generate power because it requires fine screw driving, which is only found on screwdriver sets and I haven't found any. I can't craft one either because it requires that annoying set of tools (anvil 3, tongs, forge, etc) for blacksmithing.

There's a "supply drop" above my level which should have a generator, but the map reveal I got by scanning a memory card shows that the closest stairs is quite far away. If only I could break the ceiling and go up it would simplify things. There's a "mine upwards" in the construction menu, but it apparently requires a solid rock tile. I tested "build wooden stairs", but I can only build that one to half-built state with the ceiling still there. I also tried a glitch seeing if there's still that weird behavior where floors and roofs are somehow linked, and built a chain link fence gate and broke it, but that only let me break the floor to go down, but not the ceiling. I can only think of trying a barrel bomb, but I think it'd be nearly impossible to get that many chemicals on backrooms.

10 hours into Quasimorph and I'm losing my shit
the game is good and im having fun but 99% of the time being tile clicking is so tiring
this loop is straight up criminial:
>there are 30 doors per floor, 3 floors per mission
>move diagonally to door
>swap from dash to normal
>wait a turn
>open door
>wait a turn
>swap to dash
>click into room
>nobody is there
>move to another door
>repeat
>do this 11 times
>huh guess the floor is clear
>do not do it once when entering an already cleared room/misclick
>die in one action point
xcom/xenonauts already solved this with shit like overwatch/unspent time points, not sure why this game just has infinitely more micro without actually increasing player control, it is also comical that xenonauts, a game with 15x the units, has LESS micro than a game with 1 unit
it's just comical how much microing movement requires in this game, am I missing something in the controls or QoL options?
>>
>>576511450
Apparently in DDA it canonically is aware of humans, and is deliberately not eating all of them right away because they're not a "threat" to it. Personally I think it kind of ruins the Lovecraftian horror of it.
>>
>>576516438
>open door
>wait a turn
>switch to dash
>move into door
>four enemies take immediate overwatch shots
X-Com did solve it, but it was by having 14 guys on the default skyranger so it's fine if you lose a few.

Raided a lab in BN as part of a quest for lab data. Up until this point I havent worn a helmet because helmets are for fags. Then I ran into a zombie bio operator and learned that helmets are not actually for fags as he dribbled my skull off the pavement multiple times. The rest of the raid went well but something was killing a bunch of zombies inside, I kept running into bodies. Then there was a zombie hulk that had smashed out of a crit dorm and I gunned it down and that netted me access to some printers and other goodies.
Final room is behind a locked door so return later and cut my way in. I think I'm Goin to mutate into a chud if I can find the right materials.

Pick an armor according to the enemy and you should be able to avoid a stunlock and instant death from most enemies. If stunlocks are such a problem for you use an operator with no pain treshold. Or better get an implant that allows you to detect enemies without sneaking. Or just use Quasimorphosis to do your job.

Give me some recommendations on how to build it. Should I make him a human or a mummy? Should I make him a summoner or a wizard? Is Nemelex still in the game, and does it still gives you more cards than you can hope to use in one game?

Well, no way to know for now because the wiki is down. Fuck it, we do it live!
I'll go as far as I can without attacking myself too. Gonna try to win without hitting anything myself, only my summons and card effects are allowed to do damage. Maybe Evocables too if those are still a thing.

I doubt I'll get far with these wacky restrictions, but once you do MuMo you get used to some limiters for your own amusement.

Once I leveled up and learned my lvl2 spell, summoning a Feral Imp and a couple of lvl1 monsters to shield me got me through floor 2.
And once a unique tried to hunt me down, my lvl3 spell got me the perfect counter.

It's a randart, it came with pretty good mods. I'm assuming it's because it also spawned with the Fragile one which destroys the weapon if you unequip it.
I've also seen new weapons out there, mostly renamed old weapons but there were some new ones too, like a dagger that makes you hit harder if the enemy has a debuff other than poison. And it's not even a unique dagger.

Turns out it wasn't that good and I died because I kept miscasting shit with it, but that was the only way to get my summons to Lair-level power, otherwise they were fragged it a single hit.
It was strange to not find a single Summoning spell other than the initial ones, and even when I focused on Invocations to make my cards stronger now that Summoning was being outscaled, the flow of cards is pretty lackluster and I ran out of them pretty often.

I wish it was like in .15 where you could sling cards everytime, everyday. Guess I'll focus a lot more on leveling Summoning this time around and hope I get a spell at some point, before Lair preferably.

How am I supposed to move this heavy bitch? I like them thick, but godDAM!
>>
>>576714417
I had the same problem, as far as I can tell there is no way to move it other than dragging it.
there is a system for tying furniture items of any size to vehicle cargo carriers, but it doesn't recognize the power hammer. I don't know if that's intentional or an oversight.
>>
>>576714417
There's a 1000L vehicle storage called "Cargo Shelving" or something like that. I remember it being annoying to craft.
>>
>>576714417
Can you install it as furniture using *? If I remember right cargo spaces (those 500L ones) give you an option to tie furniture down when you interact with them. Though I tried to get it to work with one of those bigger generators you pick up and deploy with "a", but it didn't work. But maybe it'll work for that thing if you place it through the construction menu. You'd probably need a long rope or something.
Also it may also be installable as a temporary vehicle part like tied down fridges used to work, try that as well.
>>
>>576715035
I searched through the entire "Flag: CARGO" on hitchhikers guide and found no 1000L storage item. Nothing with that name anyway. Is it for BN?
>>576715070
I've never thought to try that but I get "No Adjacent Furniture". I've also tried moving it to the grass under the hood just in case that is what it meant by adjacent. As you can see this building is becoming WASPED.com so I need to gtfo out of there but it's the only power hammer, anvil or angle grinder I've ever found. Without one of those three I just can't smith... and my character is a smith. I was hoping to go medieval on the apocalypse.
>>
>>576716187
It's in BN, but i'm 90% sure it used to be in DDA too. Might've got axed if so, probably too convenient for that player.
>>
>>576716187
Hmm, it looks like it can be installed as a vehicle part:
https://cdda-guide.nornagon.net/vehicle_part/ap_power_hammer

It takes an hour though. You can haul it some ways away with / and then install it I guess. Or just kill the wasps.
My early game approach to wasps is like, for smaller ones, start aiming with any gun 9mm and above and keep steadying with "5" until they're 1 tile away (not adjacent, as they can move and attack sometimes for some reason) and then shooting. Since one shot is enough for smaller ones, you should be good. For the bigger ones you can use a tear gas sprayer to make them much less dangerous, then you can shoot or even melee them. Just note that tear gas clouds can spread a bit sometimes, and getting that in your face isn't pretty so either be careful or use a gas mask with both eye and mouth protection. Shouting might also work to deter them as it works on some wildlife, but I never tested it.
>>
>>576717983
I saw that on the page but I don't have the option. I tried removing the trunk down to the frame (the door was bad durability anyway) and I cant lash it or install it or anything. This seems like oversight. I might just mod it to be lashable furniture myself desu.
>>
>>576718770
Hmm, that's weird. I set the date to the build listed in your window titlebar but it exists as a vehicle part there as well.

Just a thought, but isn't "structure" (the slot it occupies listed on that page) basically the frame? Try installing it on a completely empty spot next to one with a frame. I mean the search should be listing all the parts regardless of eligibility, but maybe it's partly filtering stuff now or something. If not, it must be a bug of some sort.
Also if it's a "frame" type of part, can you "start vehicle construction" with * using it? If you can do that, you could probably bike rack it. Does it item description list that it "can be installed as a vehicle part" at all?
>>
>>576719489
>>576718770
I think those recipes to install furniture onto vehicles still exist in the game but are not accessible to the player, they have been going in circles on how to handle moving furniture objects so there's multiple half finished and half removed methods for doing it in the game.
>>
>>576719746
>>576719489
>>576718770
oh wait, I thought you were talking about the "tied down X" vehicle parts. I think the part in that link is simply the installed power hammer as a part of a player created power grid. appliances like that are considered vehicles iirc even the ones intended for stationary base use.
>>
>>576719489
Yeah that's why I take screenshots like that, so I can remember what build my old shots are from. Quite handy that.
Anyway, I started by trying to install it to an empty slot a la a reaper or plow because, y'know, that was the most easy and nonintrusive and I've got zombies fighting wasps and one of them is going to win soon... Also, no, one cannot start a new vehicle using it. I just edited it so that it CAN be tied down into an empty cargo spot. I'll come back for the stuff I left to free up the cargo spot tomorrow night. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>>
>serious DDA discussion
>it's about inventory management
every time. Someone should make an indie friendslop game about micromanaging pockets and corner this barely tapped market
>>
>>576720191
I'm the guy having the issue but I'll chime in that BN's lack of pockets is equally as tedious as DDA's inclusion of them.
>oh shit a big ass mutant zombie!
>Ok, let me throw away my backpack! That will make me nice and light for the fight ahead
>Brighterly Nightery: Oh, ok you wanted to throw away JUST the backpack right? Great! Glad to help! You're so real for that. I'll now magically shift everything that used to be in that backpack to your pants and your shirt and your plate carrier and dont forget your pockets filled with both flour and bullets... did you wanna reach into the flour and grab just the bullets? I can do that for you!"
>BN, you Bouble Nagger, I'm still just as encumbered what are you DOING man?! Now I have to drop all these items one by one as a hulking zombie is charging me!!!!
>"Ok -- hear you loud and clear. It's streamlined! :)"
The BN and DDA divorce has been more personally traumatic than my parents because each cadre of devs was holding back the gayest tendencies of the other via compromise.
>>
>>576719869
Huh, I didn't know appliances worked like vehicles. I'm not the guy with the issue and I'm currently playing on stable so I tested there, but it seems to be partly true, because you can attach tow cables to them and move them that way. At least you can to a deployed generator. But you can't bike rack them. Well, that's to be expected since they aren't composed of vehicle parts so they couldn't be part of a vehicle in appliance form. But a tow cable might work for moving. Don't know if just any car would be able to tow a slab of steel that's over a ton in weight though, presumably without wheels on it to boot.
>>
>>576721964
wait, you can just deconstruct it into an object, do you know that? Then you can simply drag it with the \ command.
>>
>>576722106
I think his issue is that he wanted to transport it via car. Walking is slow. I think you can drag pretty much anything as an object regardless of size and weight. Like, I'm playing a backrooms run right now and it has weird heavy ass boulders in red rooms, meant to serve as portal stones, and you can haul them just fine. I find towing to be way not worth the hassle. the way the towed object actually swings around with a kind of momentum is janky ass hell and has caused weird collisions that damaged both cars. And you have to go so slow while doing it it's probably not even faster than dragging. Plus, I doubt anything would tow across dirt without wheels.

I'll now magically shift everything that used to be in that backpack to your pants and your shirt and your plate carrier and dont forget your pockets filled with both flour and bullets... did you wanna reach into the flour and grab just the bullets? I can do that for you!"
This would be true if the majority of clothes in BNs didn't have dynamic encumbrance.

I still don't understand why powders like flour are not simply treated like liquids. It's fucking stupid how you can carry around loose fistfuls of flour and salt and shit all jumbled in the same container. I also don't understand why you can't consolidate the contents of multiple liquid containers in one action. very annoying how you have to unload every little container to do that.

> I also don't understand why you can't consolidate the contents of multiple liquid containers in one action. very annoying how you have to unload every little container to do that.
Yeah, the amount of button presses it takes to just take 673 jars/sacks of pepper/oats and put them all into one container is retarded. Like, if a container has something in it already then there should be a consolidate into this container command.
That way if you're trying to take all your black pepper from the little bottles to a 3L jar you can do a single (u)nload, (v)insert and then just, I dunno, conso(l)idate.
(Custom) Loot Zones means that just once per playthrough I have to copy-paste from a text document of filters to have a neat and tidy house with things arranged just how I want them with relatively little friction but there is NO good way to deal with the storage bloat of duplicate containers of the same item each with a little bit of the item in each. Like I don't disagree a shelf with 20 jars should have the same volume regardless of if they are full or empty, but like... make a way to simply consolidate.

You like wearing those? I guess the defense values are good for when you get it, but it's pretty encumbering. Not just the head, but early game you likely don't have much stamina due to both low health stat and low athletics so the mouth thing also hinders you.

I used to like wearing the summer hard hat because it had 80% coverage due to an oversight, but it seems like it's been fixed. Among the starter options I like the riot helmet better. You can repair it unlike the other riot gear, and it also has decent defense for less encumbrance. The sports helmets have bad coverage but are ok if you have nothing better. I guess the deciding factor is how much you're planning to tank hits over evading both by dodging and just moving away more.

Never been a fan of military helmets though. The normal army/tactical ones are like 50% coverage. The protector things you can put into the helmet have bad defense and still don't give you full coverage, I think I also had issues with those parts giving clothing layer conflicts with some stuff. There's the "tactical full helmet" with 100% coverage but it's rare as shit. I think the only perk of those army helmets is that you apparently can't wear IR/NV goggles without them anymore.

I think unless you have power armor (easier to get than you think if you can swim good and fight off a few nether fish monsters), it's best to either layer a cut-resistant balaclava, some survivor hood and the full survivor mask, use the phase immersion suit/rm13 armor, or just wear the hub recon helmet with the soldier plate. The nomad cowl is trash by the way, it doesn't allow you to wear any gas mask because it's rigid. You can only wear the half-face gas mask if I remember right, but it's pointless because everything you'll want to wear a gas mask for, will also irritate your eyes (poison gas outright poisons you even through just the eyes) so I don't understand why the half face mask even exists.
>>
>>576753750
Well, until you find a riot helm or something military it's your best option for when you're a melee fighter. For this character I have the riot set except for the helm so I'm still using it for that reason. Also important to note you're just an (a)ctivate press away from not being nearly as impeded on the mouth. So it's good to wear open faced when you're running around then when you see danger popping the visor down.
I don't use it when I'm playing an archer or shooter though, it's too much of an impediment in that context but for early game melee it's pretty great. It would lose out on stamina in a longer fight but no lower level character should be standing to fight 6 zombies in a big brawl anyway like a mutant, cyborg or badass warrior in full lategame armor might.
>>
>>576757049
I mean yeah it's not a bad option and it's generally easy to find your first one so that's good too.

Just, my thought process when I see one is generally like, my starting character has bad stamina (impeded by mouth encumbrance), low ranged skills (eye) and low dodge (head) = I better stay away from taking hits at all and just get some rocks for throwing until I get any gun, or at least abuse high movecost terrain for wasting enemy time if I have to melee. The thing that stumps me the most with trying to melee on day 1 is when you get zombie dogs or runners that are hard to hit-with-high-speed-knife-and-move-away without toggling run mode on. And if you manage to accidentally attract more attention while trying to hit and run a speedy zed, or even just run low on stamina before killing them, you're in for a bad time.

The sallet helm is very good, you can activate most of the medieval helmets to raise the face guard, and the raise sallet helm has 90% coverage with good armor values at only 10 encumbrance. the raised armet helm is even better at 100% coverage but that one is 30 something encumbrance. Both of them you can still wear a gas mask with when raised.

The cut-resistant balaclava is close to skin, 95% coverage, 2 head 2 mouth encumbrance. 1.5 cut, 1 bullet, 2.5 pierce. It's a common drop from police zeds so you don't need to craft it.
The normal "survivor hood" (there's other kinds) is outer, 100% coverage, 8 head encumbrance. 4 bash, 12 cut, 8 bullet, 14.8 pierce, 2.7 acid.

With those two you have 2 mouth and 10 head encumbrance, and you still have room for a normal layer helmet if you want more. Army/tactical, chitin, riot, motorcycle and most other helmets are normal. Hub recon one is outer though.
Looking at it, that's quite a lot of cut and pierce resistance but not much bash. I think that bash is the most common damage you receive, so I guess it's not too great in retrospect. I tend to not notice because I like relying on dodge more than protection so by then I rarely get hit. Also you tend to need less defense by mid/late game because if you use the right melee weapon/MA there's also the higher block score (which uses strength, melee skill levels, MA buffs, and if using arm block - forearm armor) reducing incoming melee damage.
The survivor mask is just an uparmored gas mask, but it looks like they removed the light survivor mask which I think had less encumbrance than both the PBA and normal gas mask. So I'm not sure why you'd want to craft one now if the PBA one you can just loot off firefighters is less encumbering.

>>576790158

the regular kevlar jumpsuit, what used to be called the survivor suit, is probably the best normal layer torso/arm/leg armor until well into the end game. The survivor boots kind of suck ever since they nerfed wetsuits. The survivor storage gear like the bags and pouches are good because they have the sturdy flag, so you don't have to repair them constantly. Except for the distributed rigging, which still years later has the bizarre quality of double dipping on encumbrance. It has pouches on the lower torso and the thighs, if you fill either of them it doesn't just increase the encumbrance on those locations it increases for the entire piece of gear which makes it much less worthwhile to use.
>>
>>576875760
>>576862598
Yeah, doing it later seems like a solid option. Not sure if it's the best one though, since a completely naked guy with explosive bullets in a cheap 9mm pistol CAN steal decent gear from the RealWare mercs if he has a good position for the initial wave. Having better armor matters, but it doesn't matter THAT much.

I've got probably close to a hundred hours in Cataclysm and I have never fucked with the Hub nor have I done more for the survivor center than clearing out the zombies in the back.
Am I missing out on anything? Fun quests, strong early items? Most of my playthroughs are a minor variation of
>clear a town or two
>pile a bunch of the useful loot in a basement
>grind tailoring and fabrication to make survivor gear and a good melee weapon
>raid labs
>grind computers and electronics to make a control laptop to trivialize all turrets and robot enemies
>quit because I've won
>>
>>576913236
There's a really annoying quest you can do for the Hub in a collapsed office tower, I would not recommend it unless you particularly like dealing with vision obscuring poison gas
If you do work for the remnants who are in the area to the left of the entrance of the survivor center they'll eventually point you to the Necropolis which is sort of interesting
>>
I'm not sure if i'm missing something but I think I will drop quasimorph after 20 hours.
There is no difficulty and no player agency, EXCEPT accidentally moving one more tile or shooting in the wrong place. You will mow down dozens of enemies on the hardest difficulty just to accidentally double tap space 4 hours later and get killed in one turn.
Loot feels unrewarding, and so does upgrading your ship.
Maybe it's because I'm a fat stupid chud but I don't see where the game is supposed to hook me, even though I really want it to.

Most of the the refugee center quests are just for fun and a small amount of merch. The doctor questline you can start immediately sends you to a number of labs so you don't have to look for any and just follow the marker. One of the trader's first quests gives you the location of the hub. The second or third one spawns the tacoma faction which has quite a lot of quests, but they're all just "get me 200 planks" and then "thanks, now get me a thousand nails" and so on, which build their camp up. Eventually you spawn a nurse and later a doctor that can help you with injuries and I think install bionics.

Now hub does give you access to a lot of good unique gear. You kinda have to know how to safely tackle their quests if you choose to do them early, but then you immediately get access to really good stuff for the entire game.
The first quest gives you the modular body armor and access to barter through which you can buy random better plates for the armor and if you get lucky the helmet piece and its plate. The helmet has good stats and built-in IR/NV. Then the second quest hands you the dazzle rifle for free, which can be used to disable robots. Like for example when later you get a form of invis (cloak or the cloaking CBM) you can just toggle, walk up to say a talon UGV or a turret, and just disable them, making them inactive instead of broken. Meaning you can reuse them yourself. Good for moving nursebots or forcing them to not be rogue. Then eventually you get the HWP which is a modular rifle that can shoot various bullets (9mm/.223/.308/the exodii caliber) after a quick barrel swap. It comes with good gunmods installed, and it's small and light for a rifle. And most importantly you can buy really big mags for them through barter. You can buy 60 round 9mm drums, 100 round .223 mags, 50 round .308 mags, 30 round shotgun mags.
>>
>>576913741
The issue with that quest is that there's no safe way to rush it unless you want to take some unavoidable hard hits. The top part is not hard if you have a rifle and enough ammo to safely kill the tentacles. But the bottom part is like this: the passages are narrow as shit, and there's a gorillion shitters that explode into poison gas you can't see through with any tool. It's also underground and there's basically no holes, so the gas lingers for ages. This would be fine unless for one thing: there's also the hanging guts that are immobile but hit you hard in melee, maybe even from 1-2 tiles away, I forget. Plus the scissorlimbs that are fast as shit and cut you hard, that also explode into gas. Since you can't see them with the gas everywhere, you'll eat a bunch of hits before you can react if you rush. The only safe way is to let the gas clear each time. So just bring a book and spend an actual day doing the quest: go down, encounter the gas shitters, try to aggro as many as you can before they explode and run back, let them pop in a clear area, go up, read your book and wait for the gas to clear. It will take a lot of time, but it's reliable. Come to think of it, you can probably speed it up by buying all the pipebombs you can from the refugee center arsonist and using them there. There's no loot before the final room to damage down there, so you can go ham with grenades.

>>
>>576933561
I think the thermal goggle description says that you should be able to see mobs through gas with them, but I'm about 75% sure that's not the case. Something about how gas obscures vision in code makes it hard to just toggle it on/off for the player. Maybe it's been fixed, though. Worth a try now I guess if you have a pair by then.

When you say survivor hood which do you mean? The survivor firehood? The survivor firemask?
>>
>>576937536
he means any of the survivor hoods, but there is one simply called "survivor hood" that doesn't have any special property like warmth or fire resistance. Usually the normal survivor equipment has the best balance of protection per encumbrance.
>>
>>576937536
I normally just make the vanilla one that's called just "survivor hood" but you might want more protection or less/more warmth and stuff.

The thing with survivor gear is that it takes forever to craft without the proficiencies, so it might feel like a big time investment. But really you will probably want to get those proficiencies on every character as there's good storage stuff you can make that also uses the same profs. Like the survivor belt is really good if you aren't forced to use an axe ring holster. Or the survivor runner pack which is good+durable storage (20L) for low encumbrance, and is the only realistic option if you can afford to keep it on and still do fine in melee in exchange for not bothering to drop/pick a backpack up every time, and you still want to carry a 5 point anchor (4.5L) and maybe an activity suit (14L) on your person at all times to cover any danger you might meet.
Though you no longer need an electricity proof suit on hand all the time anymore because shocker zombies/brutes don't throw lightning bolts at you no more. Husks are still surrounded by lightning but it's no longer thrown so you can shoot those from a distance. Anchors are also less useful because flaming eyes don't have their ranged mind rays anymore either. Apparently a new nether eye monster has them now, but I've encountered a few and all they did was flee. You might still want the activity suit on hand when lab raiding in case you meet those root runner jerks.

Tailoring is generally a skill you might want to grind on every single character as early as you can, not just for crafting but for effective use of tailoring tools for repairing armor. If you do any melee, early game you will be taking a lot of hits so you will need to repair stuff. You will also find a lot of useful damaged clothing on zombies you will want to repair.

Well shit.
A) How the fuck am I supposed to level stats?
B) How can I customise my world? Taking all the settings away is even more homosexual than the 2-8 pride flags in literally every home in america. Thanks Mister Kevin Garande.

How should charisma be used in a game
I dislike the DnD approach to
>lol some classes just use it like INT
>>
>>577002150
Charisma's original use in D&D was to determine your maximum number of followers and their loyalty, which was super important back in the day. In OD&D charisma is the god stat
>>
>>577002254
sounds like Fallout 1/2 copied that?
>>
>>577002325
fallouts special system was off d100 i think, ackschulli
>>
>>577002325
Fallout was initially based on GURPS, though they soon dropped that and built their own custom system. Which is for the best, because GURPS sucks, lol.
>>
>>577002150
Charisma in general should be your interacting with others stat with little combat influence. Any non-hostile interaction should be dictated by charisma including but not limited to trading/followers/rewards with severe penalties for low charisma and great benefits for high charisma. Interactions with gods should also use a charisma modifier to faith/piety/ect. Combat interactions should be strictly limited to indirect stuff like charm and buffs for your followers or others in the case of a multiplayer game like DnD.

Because I have, in real life, been increasing my STR and have about 2-3 points more than when I started.
Or is CDDA going to be one of those "realism only when it's a pain in the ass because I the developer take player success as being defeated at the zero sum of game design" games?
>>576996879
Like what's the point of "make a world, name it, pick mods........ that's literally it"??? If I wanna play in a megapolis or a rural ass nowheresville or have the zombies evolve slow or be giant hulking behemoths the first week in that's entirely my business.
>>
>>577004886
The problem is that leveling stats in the way stats through skills did breaks the game. It's great that you are exercising IRL but I am assuming you did not start as an average guy then transform into goku correct? because that's basically what stats through skills did. A single point of strength gained is a significant advantage, the ability to train to 20 strength just from grinding skills like you could with that mod is basically like using cheat codes.
And it makes even less sense when you consider the time scale of the game, a huge majority of cdda characters don't last a single year, which makes the goku transformation even more absurd.

Stat inflation is the last thing the game needs, combat is already trivial enough.
>>
>>577004886
>going to be
lol where have you been?
>>
>>577005484
Yeah, I mean I'm not arguing that the mod itself wasn't overpowered or a suboptimal implementation but it doesn't look like they've replaced it with anything despite removing it. Like, we have gym equipment in the game, you're really telling me I can't just pick up the barbell as a 6 str nerd and at least get up to like.. I dunno... 10? 12?
>>577005498
Away for a few years, fucckkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.
>>
>>577005763
6 points of strength gain is absurd. That's exactly the kind of thing I was talking about.
The game has the athletics skill already which increases your stamina among other things.
>>
>>577005908
I mean if 8 is average person, one would assume 10 str at minimum is a possible with just natty "lift logs in a program" levels of activity and some elevated caloric intake. Again.. "realism only when its a pain in the ass", eh? This would be a practice recipe just for stats instead of proficiency. If you didn't like it, then don't engage with it. Nobody makes you do target practice either.
I'm not even proposing you raise intelligence or anything but like, strength at bare minimum my man... hypertrophy is the gold standard of "do a thing and your attribute literally goes up in visible, measureable ways".
>>
>>577006358
>If you didn't like it, then don't engage with it. Nobody makes you do target practice either.
Asinine argument. If you want to raise your stats then use the debug menu.
>>
>>577007128
Asinine argument. If you want to level your skills without grinding recipes and using time, calories and materials in an organic way then use the debug menu.
>>
>>577008418
Why exactly do you want even more grinding that results in the game becoming even easier? Did you make bring a gym bro your entire personality and now want to do it in games too?
>>
>>577008674
Why exactly do you not want to add on to the entire premise of the game which is taking the survivor you're given (or create) and making them stronger and more capable until they die or triumpth? Did you make being a dismissive redditard your entire personality and now want to bring it to 4chan too?
>>
Better solution: Go play Bright Nights, install the mod, and forget about the faggotry that is modern DDA
>>
"If you want to level up your stats, play Bright Nights" - Sparkle Dog
>>
>>577008902
The entire premise of the game is to mindlessly grind until the challenge becomes utterly trivial?

cope and seethe
>>577009097
That's Cataclysm!
>>
>>577009148
Even if we assume that to be true, you want that to be the case? cataclysm is already one of the most miserably grindy games in existence short of a korean mmo. Removing stat grinding for the sake of gameplay in opposition to supposed realism makes perfect sense, but when they do it you complain about it not being realistic enough.

Sounds like you want "realism except only when it benefits me, preferably by way of a mindless grind".

DDA is the fork with proficiencies, which I agree with for the record, because being arbitrarily "crafting ten" and making everything is retarded if you've never touched a welder in your life even IF you're a lifelong carpenter. Everything I have articulated is well within that purview. I don't disagree that stats-from-skills was an old and hacky solution to a legitimate problem, but I guess I was hoping with it being removed there was a better, more granular and more incorporated solution that involved time and calories and maybe even making weights or running laps or whatever.
I don't know to what dubious honor we owe having our own member of the dev team here to screech autistically but it is a real treat.
>>577009360
Broslaps you're not even talking to me. But nice projection from the fact you're doing the literal opposite.

>I don't know to what dubious honor we owe having our own member of the dev team here to screech autistically but it is a real treat.
The classic 4chan cope, when losing an argument accuse the opposition of being a shill/dev.

If you love grinding so much go play a korean mmo.
>>
>>577009681
Brother you cannot string an intellectually consistent point together. I'm not losing shit.
>>
>>577009775
Sure I can, and I did. You are the one that resorted to blind shill accusations. Grinding is bad gameplay, stat grinding is even worse gameplay, and stat grinding isn't even realistic in the time scale of the game. Your argument boils down to "but I want to stat grind". Not particularly convincing.
>>
>>577005484
The blob is inside you, that's why you learn and heal so much faster. Stats becoming superhuman levels in a year is accurate.
>>
>>577009908
Handwaving away any inconsistency with "muh blob" is bad worldbuilding and bad game design. If blob makes you superman why do you still need to eat and sleep?
>>
you can tell pony is very emotionally invested in this conversation given the lack of deleted posts
>>
>>577009875
You haven't, and cannot. Which is why you refuse to interface with the premise that blows your every word to smithereens. Proficiencies exist. It's a """""grind"""" that makes sense within the world of the game. You level skills, you level proficiencies, you read books and learn recipes, you collect data off of laptops, this is entirely consistent with the gameplay flow of the game. Calories spent doing all of these preparatory things must be gained and burned through looting or crafting. If you're playing with a cheatmod like dinoclysm and shoving an entire brontosaurus into your freezer for free calories that's on you. Play BN bro, it's right there. Just install it. If you don't even like DDA then don't play it.

>>577010063
>Handwaving away any inconsistency with "muh blob" is bad worldbuilding and bad game design. If blob makes you superman why do you still need to eat and sleep?
You are a biological creature on earth where hypertrophy exists. No greater explanation is needed. You somehow manage to be the more ignorant of the two.

>>577010076
Oh am I taking my turn at milking the thread lolcow? I don't post here except when I'm actually playing the game so I dunno.
>>
>>577010385
Some form of grinding gameplay existing does not automatically justify any other imaginable form of grinding being put in the game, especially when they break the actual premise of the game which is to survive the apocalypse. Survival becomes much less difficult when you can turn into goku by working out in your basement for 2 months.
Grinding should be present only when necessary, I would prefer if they removed most of the skill grinding in the game and you were limited only to what you had at character creation, because sitting in your bunker watching a progress bar increase is BAD GAMEPLAY.
>You are a biological creature on earth where hypertrophy exists.
Yes and as we all know it only takes 3 months to become an Olympic level weightlifter from being an average guy. On the time scales the game takes place in you would barely gain any strength even if you trained at the optimal pre-apocalypse level without having to do anything else to provide for your own survival.
>>
>>577010063
You can get mutations that make it so you don't need to sleep and need significantly less food, or ones that let you eat rotten or raw food, plants, or even sunlight.
>>
>>577010987
And? To get those mutations you need mutagen, which only reinforces my point that you would not be able to do those things as a normal person regardless of whatever level of blob infection everyone is supposed to have.
>>
>>577009360
>Sounds like you want
No, I don't want that, that's the main reason I don't play DDA. It's still a thing in every fork that you can grind away until you're overpowered, though.
Bright Nights has little grinding, but you get plenty overpowered unless you avoid it or adjust world settings heavily. CLG is working on taking away the overpowered part, but is sadly keepingthe grinding.
>>
>>577011082
And you can only mutate because of the blob.
So we're back to square one. The blob allows you to become superhuman. You can be punched through multiple walls and merely have to dust yourself off, your broken bones can perfectly heal in days, you can become a once in a lifetime master of a craft in under a month, and you can completely change how core parts of your body works. So why is it only a problem if the blob lets you become stronger, faster, more perceptive, or smarter?
If you want to link it to mutagen, have limit breaking mutations that allow your stats to start growing. Simple solution.
>>
>>577011683
The fact that you need the mutagen directly implies that the level of blob infection in a person that hasn't injected mutagen would not allow for gaining stats in that way. And guess what? You can already gain stats FROM MUTATING.

If you guys are so enamored with grinding you should seriously go play some dogshit korean mmo, you can grind yourself into a coma, I bet you would love it.
