DISCONTINUATION

I'm sad to announce that I will be discontinuing any further work on this project.

I initially wanted to take a short break and come back to the project, however with 1) lack of time for development due to both work and personal life and 2) the development of machine learning technologies I'm just not willing to put any more work into it. Especially the 2nd point made me completely lose interest in it.

Open source software, something I once valued way more than proprietary software, has now become a clown show due to so-called vibe coders. People's contributions to OSS were once a great learning experience, GitHub used to be a place where you could exchange knowledge and build a nice resume as well as find many fantastic hobby projects you could make use of. I've learnt that myself. Now, seeing many OSS projects receive many completely trash and meaningless pull requests and GitHub being flooded with very low quality or straight up vulnerable on all fronts code, I lost my faith in it.

My goal with this project was producing good (for obvious reasons not perfect, but still goot) quality code and delivering what people wanted. To learn and become a better software engineer. All the motivation I had to do that is completely gone now.

Thank you for all the contributors, people who helped me develop it and people who reported bugs and feature requests.

It was a good ride.

Maybe one day we will come back to the way the things were before.

The shit Danny is doing with Claude...

There are decades where nothing happens and weeks where decades happen type shi

I don't know how anyone with a brain can scoff at the unbelievably rapid massive amount of improvements Retroarch and cores have undergone in 2026 thanks to this technology

Entire codebases scrubbed clean of incorrectnesses

>>
>>581571791
Knowing how IA works, you should feed him some documentations before hands about it, just to be sure. So you'll have to make your own research and find the ressources about it.
>>
>>581605748
>its just an emulator basically right?
Yeah, it's not even a Retroarch-styled frontend, just some C++ app. Supposedly this GB emu is bespoke, but its audio is entirely lifted from Gb_Snd_Emu 0.14. (There's also an unused VBA-Next, likely because Shantae Switch was originally going to include Risky Revolution.)
But the most fascinating part of "Carbon Engine" is its UI. Apparently Wayforward were the ones to provide the UI bits, but Opus found out it's actually based off one of the LearnOpenGL 2D frameworks!

Does Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge runs well on RPCS3? The fact that a subpar hack and slash is going for almost $50 at secondhand marketplace for a used copy is fucking retarded.

Is there a website for all video games on a console for all regions that also lists the genre all in one table?
Closest I found was psxdatacenter and that's only for PS1, PS2 and PSP. But it splits the games per region and it doesn't list the genre so I have to click each one to check if it's an RPG game or a shooter game or a racing game or whatever. And for PS2 and PSP game it doesn't have information on the game at all and instead it just shows the name and the code.

It's fine. I played this a couple months back and I didn't see any problem. It was a constant 30FPS with no dips.
What console are you buying the game for? Can't you just homebrew it and play it there if you don't want to play the PC port and if RCPS3 runs it like shit?

Homebrewing is too much hassle especially when I placed all my old consoles in a storage when I was cleaning out my closet.

Some autists have gathered a whole list of FOSS software that uses AI..
https://codeberg.org/ethical-foss/open-slopware#emulators
>>
>>581821691
Really funny how half the shit in there only uses AI for bug indemnification yet the author treat them like they're in the same level as things that are entirely vibe-coded
>>
>>581823984
As with so many other things in modern discourse, opposition and support for AI has become an identity marker around which people gatekeep who belongs in their in-group. In its strongest form, any use of AI taints the whole thing almost at the metaphysical level. There's no room for nuance or circumstance here.
>>
>>581823984
My favorite part is how they suggest Decaf, dead for many years, as an alternative for Cemu, without realizing that Decaf isn't anti-AI, it just died before having the chance to enjoy the power of vibe coding
Or how they suggest useless crap like lazuli or iris as alternatives for well established emulators. There is certainly no way Lazuli or Iris could independently reverse-engineer a system and develop a fully functional emulator in a year without massively copy-pasting from the "tainted" ones or secretly vibe-coding themselves.
>>
>>581815981
When you use the photoshop stamp tool, are you drawing? When you use the fill command are you coloring? When I use GenAI to respond to prompts 4000 words long and it produces an image that would otherwise not exist or look as it does.

I Did That. You can hate the tool but the image wouldn't exist without my agency.

Next time you see an artist produce a .PNG make sure to have the same energy for them.
>>
>>581823984

>>
>>581836260
someone just using the stamp tool a bunch might make something pointless and unimpressive, and it's not drawing, but they still made _something_
the difference is the AI has more agency than you in this situation. Saying you made those pictures is like commissioning art and then saying you made it
>>
I just realized something. If Opus was able to reverse engineer Carbon Engine, that means I can apply it to something more useful. M2's Mark V emu would be great to have on PC, especially since no emulator currently runs their version of Space Harrier II.
>>
>>581853748
I highly doubt that thing's an emulator for any sort of platform, man. It's probably just some sort of original game they whipped up with the fantasy hardware moniker applied, and it's nothing but a label. I doubt it's even as real as a Pico8 or some other fantasy machine.
>>
>>581855179
They've done some great work on real hardware before, so it's not unreasonable to assume there's some fascinating stuff going on under the hood.
>>
>>581855372
Kay. Prove it to me that it's emulating some sort of new chip and isn't just an original game or LUA applied to standard Genesis emulation. They've done several mockup games too and I think this is one of them.
>>
>>581855617
>They've done several mockup games too
Huh, so it's a 50/50 chance. I like those odds!
>>
>>581855764
Okay so I'm gonna eat crow here and say that it is emulation based on a little research. It's emulating a fantasy chip, so yeah it'll need to be reverse engineered paprium style but it probably could be applied to other Genesis emus.

How much more accurate? I guess if people play wirelessly they'd go for it, but I mainly play wired and I'm fine with a HE controller. Never had a problem with mine and I'll keep continuing to buy HE controllers.
>>
>>581863954
im no expert but i have done some searching and i have found not all tmr and hall effect are the same. it seems older hall effect have different implementations so again they are not all the same so if your he is older you might not have the better current versions. you can do whatever you want, im just stating the facts.

>My favorite part is how they suggest Decaf, dead for many years
They also suggested mplayer as a alternative for mpv, mpv is a fork of mplayer and mplayer 2. The whole list is like that and i guess that's why no one but trolls and bluesky users who never wrote a line of code in their lives gives a shit about it

I use the stamp tool and the Gen AI tool. None of them have agency, proof of which is that you gen 40 things and produce only fragments that are useful and nit them together. you see things you might not have thought of and inspires new angles and more creative art.

Gen AI has ZERO agency. comparing it to commissioned art is giving it far too much credit. art commission is leagues better and more time consuming. You can dislike the tool but it's just a tool. Sink or swim, get with it or get left behind.

I just got and set up a DacoTaco bluetooth passthrough adapter v4 and basic USB sensor bar successfully with Wii remote audio working and everything. I'm looking to flesh out the rest of my setup to cover the other consoles with controllers that are difficult or impossible to map cleanly to modern "standard" layouts.

I'm looking for controllers that work with SteamOS wirelessly (preferably using something like a 2.4GHz dongle instead of being bluetooth only), with Hall effect or TMR sticks.
N64, keeping the trident layout so the "left position" can still be used. (I'm hoping this will also work well for the 3/6 button face button consoles). I haven't found anything remotely promising for this, so I'm really hoping somebody can point me towards something I've missed.
Gamecube (You can get by with modern controllers, but you'll usually either have a weird mapping for navigating in-game menus or have a weird mapping for the actual game play). The Retro Fighters BattlerGC Pro looks okay, but the gamepadla page has me wondering about the latency and some of the user reviews I've read also have me questioning things like how the analogue triggers and digital click at the end work in X-Input or D-input over the dongle.

I appreciate any insight or help with picking something out for these.

What good is emulation when all games have native ports?

Nukeykt has stopped development and archived the github for nuked-sc55
There are other forks being worked on along with 88emu which integrates nuked-sc55 along with the sc-88 series and higher with seamless switching between models with vst and clap versions on the way, so it will be a one stop shop for everything sound canvas related.
>>
>>582119469
As long as I don't gotta use LoopMIDI, it's good in my book.
>>
>>582119219
And how do games get recomps? It's literally the emulator scene doing all the heavy lifting in how these games are read.
>>
>>582120156
It's literally 100% AI automated these days. Emuretards play no role in any way.
>>
>>582120423
You think the AI is rewriting the audio and graphics backends of all these games? They're just statically recompiling the game's code and gluing it to an emulator.
>>
>>582111836
Just you wait until local models reach Astra levels.
>>
Why do front end ROM folders require such weird names for folders? You have some systems abbreviated, but then other ones have the name of the console, and then other ones include the company behind it. There's no unified format, it's all random. Makes it a pain to find the folder. And then the front end has a hard time scraping data for the folder if you don't name it properly.
>>
>>582120423
The games are literally running in an emulator.
>>
Fuck.
Emulation failed me today...
Both the latest released Citra and Azahar can't actually run the Sega 3D Classics Collection/Archives games.
No...
Not like this emulation bros...
>>
I don’t know if Rouge always had those pink lines on the sides and I just never noticed or if this is Dolphin/Retroarch having some graphical bugs that’s affecting more than I’m aware of
>>
>>582135019
It's working for me though. I literally played it like 4 months ago. Try an older build, maybe.
>>
>>582135019
Yeah what this anon said >>582136337
I played them a while back. Probably some slop update broke it so grab an older version.
>>
>>582136337
>>582136449
Are you sure?
I just tried Thunder Blade that is in the Sega 3D Classics Collection and no dice on both emus.
>>
>>582136535
Yes.
Use an older build. I used Citra. Try a version that's a year old or older.
>>
I'm so indecisive about a possible purchase. The retroid pocket classic is only a hundred bucks right now but I also own a old Vita I could homebrew on for free.

Anyone got advice that could help me make a decision?
>>
>>582138865
Stick with the Vita. I also kinda wanted one, but I just told myself to just save up for the Retroid Pocket 6, or even the AYN Odin 3.

>>
>>582138865
unless you really want to play ps2/gc games on it (unlikely bc of the lack of sticks) I would just stick with the vita since they're basically the same power level if you ignore those two consoles.

With all these translations, I'd wanna see one for tenerezza. It's even on PC so it could probably be slop coded very easily.

You should use the last Yuzu EA 4176. Avoid updating TOTK over 1.1.2.
You only need two mods: older totk optimizer which uses a text file for config instead of that horrible in-game bloat menu, and optionally Serfrost Defogger is great, it's found on Gamebanana.

Impressive game. The real time shadows on top of the FMVs looks great. Almost a proto RE-make in that way, but it's so fucking boring. Classic Eurojank high tech, low game feel.
>>

Here are the two mods in question if you are a nu-friend and unable to use your own brain to function in efficient manner.

The config file is inside TOTK Optimizer/romfs/UltraCam directory.

Astra/Opus' recomp should now look AND feel great to play. Input latency has been reduced entirely. The only thing left to do is touch up the presentation of its frontend.

>>582111836
There's always gonna be those 5-7s nobody bothers to recomp, and recomp quality both varies greatly and is in fact still emulation in many cases. Save states, fast forward, and internal shaders aren't guaranteed either. They can be nice, but they aren't a replacement. Even when the process becomes dummy-automated, like insert ROM -> get .exe, it'll be step you have to take and likely take a lot of time to process.
>>
>>582111836
most of these recomps are useless, just repacked emulators, and have major issues that will never be solved since the retards behind them are just asking claude to shit out something they don't understand
>>
and I dunno do you really want a million executables and extracted assets bloating up the joint instead of a bunch of ROMs and one emulator per system, or Retroarch?
>>
>>582233984
You can just download the exe directly, retard.
>>
The one thing I hope for is that Xbox + >6th gen games get re/decomped because 7th+ gen emulators are so shitty. At this point all the 360 ones still use Xenia for graphics, and that's the weakest part of 360 emulation.
>>
>>582234167
Ideally there should be an emulator that functions exactly like a recomp would, that way recomps don't have to be made on a per-game basis.
>>
>>582234296
You're misunderstanding me. I'm saying that even when any idiot, without decent Claude skills/tokens, can make one of these by throwing a console game agnostically into some convertor. At that point it'll still be more steps than download game -> run in emulator. I'm not talking about the process of using a recomp itself. I half-realized after posting someone was gonna (intentionally, no doubt) misinterpret this to shitpost back. Shame on me.
>>
>>582234558
Ideally yes but realistically that's aways off and the more complicated the machine the longer the compilation time will be.
>>
>>582234861
It's a good thing some dude already vibed a whole bunch of recomp frameworks for older consoles. Gameboy's a great place to start, though as Shantae proves, even that's quite difficult if you know what you're doing.
>>
>>582235008
Then again, most (if not all) of Shantae's difficulty came from how many banks it switches. A handheld that doesn't use so many mappers like the Game Gear would be even easier to make a general recompulator for.
>>
>goosestation
The fuck is this? Duckstation on RA? isn't that Swanstation?
>>
>>582240610
Swanstation is Duckstation pre-license change AFAIK. Goosestation is the latest build of Duckstation as a libretro core.
>>
>>582240803
ah got it, ty, that's actually cool having the latest duck on RA.
>>
>>582241137
Yeah all kinds of mainline emus are getting the libretro treatment now, including MesenCE. Mesen used to be out-of-date for the longest time on RA when compared to newer standalone builds.
>>
>>582207743
I considered 8bitdo but ultimately decided against it because of compatibility. I was not going to keep going back and forth researching which controller and which version is which and which one is supported. I knew the Dual Sense is supported and well supported. I learned a local shop does the TMR sticks so I went with that. I dont want to think I made a bad choice because the controller was $75 and the TMR job $60 so that's $135... Maybe I made a mistake?

Get over yourself. Do you really think these new ones are any worse than circa 2001 "fucks like a tiger" shit? Hell, any worse than anything Working Designs or Woolsey put out? Doubtful, and even those got the job done with their flaws. You're just this picky because of AIDS and I doubt the translations of old would pass muster either. Besides:
