turns out the dongle just needs some specific realtek 902.11ax modules enabled in the kernel for linux to work with it
seems to pair fine and work with MLO

The Fashion Club is a newly started (hopefully recurring) meet focused on making outfits that aren't the standard casual, sexy, tactical, etc. The goal is to build a wardrobe full of great outfits that are not skimpy(without good reason), follow a theme, and that you'd want to wear anytime and anywhere, including public instances. The given themes will be very vague or broad, allowing club members to freely interpret their design based on a loose idea to prevent uniformity(like bunny suits or tactical gear). Meets are planned for possibly once a month, once every two months, or once a quarter.

The theme for this first meet is Adventurer, typically the medieval fantasy type but any interpretation is allowed as long as the first thought by anyone on seeing this outfit is without a doubt "that's an adventurer". Don't forget your weapons, your trinkets, anything you might need on a quest. Bonus points for interactive weapon gimmicks. It does not matter how you made the outfit, if you got an outfit on booth, kitbashed, the final result matters.

There is no contest(unless the people want one). Show up, show off, see what others have made, take pictures. This is intended to essentially be a hangout+ with a focus on fashion and outfits. The Fashion Club is just that, a club; it is not a huge event with its own custom made world and a whole itinerary of activities, it is a meant to be a get-together of people with the same interest and this one is about fashion, outfits, and cultivating the creativity that lies in how you present yourself to an intended audience(even yourself).

Anyone is free to join to show off or spectate, but there is one restriction on the final design:
- You must be mostly dressed and show no skimpy features(that means no chainmail bikinis).

You can't just look at battery life from use case or what would be nice, think about the engineering. The way to get more battery life is:

A) make it shittier, but why, because you can just turn the performance down to save power when the user doesn't have it
B)Make the battery pack bigger
C)Hotswapping

I've heard the frame is actually battery heavy. The batteries seem sized on what's appropriate to cup the back of the head with. Valve sized the battery on ergonomics and weight knowing you can tether with a pocket or clip on battery. I think they would get less heat for this if they promoted the device being used this way sometimes. Just come out and say you think dealing with a short cable is better than just adding the weight and size to the headset, even on the back.

However I wonder if there was any way to get this ergonomic headrest friendly design AND it can take a hotswappable package. That would've just been a flat out best solution right there. We will see when the boulder headstrap drops how bulky the hotswap solution is.

Also I'm not even going to explain the extra buttons, that's basic information about the device and they want mixed game types and maximum use cases. It's a deck on your face, blah blah

Would a Meta Quest 4 with four lenses solve the difficulty of field of view at a cheap price? Think of driving a car. You have your rear view mirror, and you have your side mirrors. The normal two lenses for a front view, and if you look to your left or right then you see either of the other two views. This increases the field of view somewhat like a Nintendo DS had a space between the two screens...but the overall size of the screen available for picture was large.

CAS in steam VR is really nice and should be on by default. I get more aliasing without diagonal pixel grid though.

reminder that 70 degrees is just the spec, it'll be less than 70 degrees actual horizontal fov once you have it sitting in front of your eyes

Does passthrough work with PCVR? Either VD or Steam VR? Seems like you could just color key something as transparent. But it doesn't work on my quest 2. My steam link client on quest is ancient.

Some initial thoughts with 30 minutes testing the Frame. I've a 5090 and 9950X3D, desktop streaming into the headset in VRC.
Need to work out how to stop the lag when large avatars load in. In large lobbies the headset kept on skipping frames due to that, walking around kept on having a slideshow when something popped in. I feel a little sick, and I've been using VR too many fucking years now, I've not felt like this in a long time. When wired this was no issue on Index/BSB.
The image was different ... better?, but different, I'll have to go back and forth testing with my BSB2e and Frame, hard to explain and I had it in performance mode too.
Gripping with the new controllers is ass, will look at custom bindings to maybe make it easier, but fuck, this thing is going to need bunch of quality of life changes until it replaces the main headset.

I think you answered it yourself, they could make a head strap that's just a counterweight and have the battery on a cable in your pocket or whatever. And then you can make different sized batteries easily so customers can decide how large of a battery they need.
