If bungie were to make a swap to destiny 3, now would be the time to do it as everyone has given up on destiny 2.
But they need SOMETHING to keep people interested in giving them money, as any destiny 3 would be years off, so continuing to abandon d2 after the unvaulting would be retarded.
Their best bet would likely be to have a main team working on whatever the next big content is going to be, and have a smaller team doing into the light type updates. Not exactly the same, but "new" content to do to keep people logging in between now and whenever the next thing comes out.

Genuinely what is the future for Bungie? It seems seriously unlikely Marathon will become their saving grace anytime soon, unless by some miracle the next big update fixes the game in some sort of massive way.

I just played sundered doctrine for the first time. can someone explain to me for the final boss fight how you are supposed to know that the wheel needs to be divided into 2 halves? this is not used anywhere else, there is no indication on the wheel or the room, and there is no secondary logic that could lead you to a correct answer and uncover the rule. I spent over 2 hours trying all sorts of different combos / scenarios and trying to incorporate the dropped symbol and the broken wheel on the back wall. I gave up and googled it and the answer just seems so random that I don't believe you were ever supposed to figure this out from the game itself

the previous boss mechanic was kind of ass too but at least there trying shit randomly quickly gets you to the dps phase so you can reverse engineer the process (why is the red ball getting spiked significant at all???)

Do I need friends or a dedicated group for this game? Say for example Raids, can I matchmake for those or is it only a private thing?

No but it helps a lot if you have friends. There's no matchmaking for raids, but there's a group finder built into the game for it that's pretty decent. There are also Discords for LFG if you want to go that route instead. I mostly play solo myself these days, my Destiny friends all quit after Lightfall.
