there's nothing illegal about artwork outside of few countries
and the fact you are using that term for anything related to the artwork is way past dull
the weird thing is you would most likely marry a japanese wife
then you'd get absolutely mind blown when your offspring learns japanese, gets into japanese fetishes and then their favorite 40 year old voice actor makes an msgk work
you want your offspring removed from society for many years because they were a fan of a 40 year old japanese voice actor?
once again, I don't even need a passive aggressive assumptive answer from you
I'm not making assumptions about you, but it's almost guaranteed with your buzzword usage and inability to hold yourself from typing swear words 6% of the total volume of whatever you type
do you believe that making those kinds of things entirely inaccessible to everyone would actually protect anyone out in the real world? I believe it's the opposite scenario

After going through countless languages and engines, and working in the industry for a decade, I'm back to "nah I'll just roll my own these are all shit".

What is the graphics/input/sound library that is easiest to port to all OSs and consoles in a language with manual memory management? Still something like C + SDL ?

SDL is still breddy gud, yes. Raylib is a more experimental library with some builtin 3D capabilities.
The Rust guys (>implying) are building some alternative stack, projects like winit, rodio, wgpu… they combine quite well, but the stack still feels rather buggy compared to SDL.

>>
>>582408270
The problem with Rust is that the compile times are ass. One of the reasons I'm trying to leave big corpo engines is that it takes forever for the games to compile and start and it continously distracts you. I'd rather hunt memory leaks. And honestly memory is so abundant these days and the games I'm hoping to make so simple that I'll likely just statically allocate 1gb at the start and call it a day.

34 days left until I run out of money. Not long now. There will be no surprise saving my ass this time. I can't complain too much though. Can't be getting lucky forever. Who gets to do full time gamedev for so many years? I should be grateful for that at least even though long term I'd probably have been better off doing basically anything else.
I'm unexpectedly again in physics hell, debugging some inconsistent collision damage. Physics engines are such ridiculous collections of tricks and approximations and workarounds under the hood. Maybe I should just calculate impulses on one impact point and have that be the damage. It doesn't really matter as long as it feels right.

mgsdev here. I've finally given up my attempts at modeling period accurate lowpoly. I can make OKish square characters, and even hexagon, but I can't rig or UV unwrap them well. Currently rebuilding the tutorial area and I ended up sticking this in. I should adjust this fight. It took me 3 tries to beat. Ask opus 5.5 to give you a base model to edit. I did it and gave it a polycount limit which it stuck to. it can rig and unwrap decently too. You could then replace all the textures and edit the model to taste.

It's not really, it suffers from the same thing modern stopmotion suffers from, it just looks 3d. nothing stand out. when you learn it's pixel art, it's impressive, but then when you learn it's traced over 3d, it becomes a bit less impressive. metal slug remains king(and still doesn't sell that well!) so I agree with your point overall.

Why is it so common for neetdevs to spend years tinkering with minor aspects of their games? Do they not feel any pressure to actually finish something?

How do Steam fests work? What can I do to promote my game on Steam? Other than just let it sit there and hope for the best. I've heard good things about these sorts of events.
>>
>>582423324
You enlist for 1 steam "next fest" before release. You should have a good demo up for it. There’s an astounding number of tourists on those events just trying dozens of games. Beware you can only do nextfest once per game. So pick a good point in development, where your demo is strong enough.
The other steam fests, you can just enlist in wherever your game suits the theme; and you can enlist with a demo too, before release, it doesn’t clash with nextfest. Meaning you can do as many theme fests ever as you like, either with demo or later with full release. They are also quite fine in terms of tourists but be aware that you really have to match the theme to qualify. So realistically you will get 1-2 theme fest opportunities per year.
>>
>>582423712
Interesting. Thank you. This seems like an additional marketing strategy, but not the main thing to rely on. I will continue my efforts on social media.
>>
>>582423823
Obviously there’s tons of questionable shenanigans where you will gain more traction in these events if you "seem to do well," so if you can send your primed social media army on to Steam to play you’re demo it is likely gonna help attract even more tourists because you will be ranked higher in the event overview bla bla.

It sounds like you should go with claude, because it all doesn’t appear to be very high quality work anyway. I dare say you won’t find success anyhow. So you will have ample time after you’re game flopped to rewrite it from scratch and nothing lost.
Or you take it the other way round: Since it will flop regardless, don’t use claude. But then you will always wonder if maybe it wouldn’t have worked with claude.

>>

>>
>>582426762
The problem is that for code, it’s vastly only the end result / the correctness that matters. So if you got a slop result that does the right thing, or a lovingly human-made version that is buggy and slow -- it’s no competition. If you’re familiar with coding, you CAN look at the human-made version and say you prefer it artistically. Unfortunately most people only get confronted with the end-result and wouldn’t be able to judge/read the code anyways.
(Still admittedly the end user experience for AI-made programs IS often the same vague slop experience that AI-generated "art" causes. Unfortunately many human-made programs are similar shit though. At least the AI tends to make sure to plaster documentation and instructions everywhere.)
So, with art, you don’t really have that separation. What you see is both the end-result and the aesthetics at once. And I think half the problem is that it’s just recognizable as AI-generated. We get tired of styles quickly and for some reason AI imagegen always has the same style. No matter what you prompt it and what it appears to imitate, you can see the AI-ness. For a week it was impressive for everyone, then everyone grew tired of it.

I love AI so much, it streamlines so many areas of work in so many fields.
My friend used to film all our LAN parties, and he recently gave it 70hours of footage, and compiled it into a 4 hour video where all silent/non-speaking parts were cutout, so we can watch it and its only footage of people talking.
Working on a project like that as a married man with children would take way to long, but he was able to set it up and let it do its thing while he was at work, it even put cool transitions and put titles in it like "huge counter strike rage argument" and so on.

i've been coding a game during the last 3 semester of college

not every day - just on and off when I had time
last semester I had a lecture about "clean software engineering" and I immideatly realized that what I was doing was utter shit

but I thought
>maybe I can still push through

today I realized that my game ABSOLUTELY needs a certain feature but implementing it would require an ungodly amount of work

I think the time has come
I need to start over again with a better architecture
at least I can re-use some of the scenes and code that is independent from all the other game logic ...

Honestly Clean Code is pretty good, you gotta make it your own but the basic ideas are completely sound and valid. Partly it’s not even code organization, it’s just problem solving, to start with higher level functions "this would work if I implemented these 4 functions" and then doing those 4 functions the same way, writing them as if the smaller functions needed already existed, and so on. It yields great code and it’s often the best way to even get a problem solved at all.
On the topic of gamedev/solodev the point that Carmack made absolutely stands, though: http://number-none.com/blow/john_carmack_on_inlined_code.html
Basically, for long imperative chains of code, it will often be better to permit the 500-lines (or 2000-lines) function than to break it up in a way that is not actually "valid" because all those little functions would be highly interdependent, relying on an exact call order, not at all reusable or trivially swappable. Core game loops are typical such situations. And you will still be doing many function calls from there, and still have a lot of logic neatly split out. But the point is that a simple "clean" rule telling you "more than 30 lines is bad" is not helpful in these cases.

I let it keep working last night after I went to bed and I woke up to it looking like this.

It even added a soundtrack (I think it stole the music from my Marotte game files).

I do love how chicuelas 512 is a much more complex and polished game than the average indie game on agdg.

And the funny thing is that I made it on like 30 hours.

It's a lot like how the vagabond artist video where he in 20 minutes make a more polished and better page than /ic/ in hundreds of hours.

So now I have to check AGDG every day just in case something pops up that completely revolutionizes everything so I don't get left behind? Great....

Those types are quite common
>big name
>"nahh those negative reviews must be wrong!"
>"this game sucks, how could this be happening to me!"
>small indie game with huge negative review count
>"im not buying that, it is clearly something I shouldnt buy!"
You have much to learn about these types of people. Its why I must become entrenched as a successful game company so I have an audience that will buy my stuff without requiring heavy persuasion

you were able to pump that shit out because u got an unlimited opus 5.5 trial off a patron of yours which you left running for days on end, otherwise you would've never pulled it off you piece of shit. your ideas are terrible and you are the laughing stock of agdg, get a grip, retard

Tbf i think the self aware nature of your juan jam entry makes it funnier and easier to interact with than marotte. I also havnt given marotte a try yet, because i never interacted with that genre, and the more obvious sexualization + ai art is not to my taste. Even though i dont use ai or am particularly happy about it, i still shared it with my friends and we had a good laugh and tried out the game.
I hope ai art gets even better and youll be able to replace the marotte art with something a bit more tasteful, if you wont, i hope the right communities will find you.
Id still like to see your entry in future dds, ai or not i think everybody should be welcome.

Most enginefags were never game developers anyway. They are tinkerers who tinker with something somewhat related to game development.

I see
>Code is not art so it is okay if AI codes
a lot.
And its true code is not art in the same way words are not stories, notes are not music, and lines are not drawings
Code can be art if it is used to make art
Like pencil strokes can be used to do math or make art
Saying its cool if AI does all the programming for a game is fine because code is not art is like saying its cool if AI does all the line strokes in a drawing because pencil strokes are not art
