Got steam frameLight, comfy, but I have no ergo kit because of scalpers. Controllers feel shitty without, but I'm used to index. Battery life is pure dogshit get a battery pack and either put it in your pocket or wear a chest strap.The menu is confusing as fuck when streaming, you need to make sure your not trying to change settings in the headset when you mean desktop, and they look the same. While streaming games from desktop the menu can desync and i've never seen anyone mention this. The laser position can be offset, so be careful when clicking options.If you use overlays like OVR Toolkit, they look like they render very low res. It's clearly a software bug because the games look perfectly fine.Bottom line, good hardware, early beta software that I'm sure will improve in time. So if you are stuck waiting, don't worry too much.

Ran a friend's frame today. Surprised what I did and didn't agree with about what I heard.I refuse to wear a headset heavier than this. It feels like nice ski goggles. I don't need the top strap, I haven't used it but I don't even know what I would need it for. Only felt insecure when bending over and starting to invert my head. Might change my mind for melee combat games or superhot when I play them.Shell fingerprints aren't that bad. But the lenses smudge extremely easily and the cloth just smears the oil forever. You want glass lens inserts with no prescription. Eyelashes don't make it dirty, but it can touch your brows and eyebrows. A brow-only spacer would be awesome and would make an easy DIY.Reviewers should've grilled the optics. FOV is good, especially if you take the interface off and see what future interfaces or relief adjustments can do. But clarity, color fringing, chromatic aberration issues start appearing in the last 25% or so on the edges. Vertical sweet spot is pretty small like my quest 2. Horizontal sweet spot is big enough to where I could use all IPDs as I'm near average. I was not impressed with binocular overlap unless I used a low IPD.Used controllers without the strap. Anyone who has a problem without the strap has dysgenic hands. If I did a blind review without hearing from others, I would never suspect these were a problem for people. Easily the most retarded public opinion on the kit out there. The only thing weird is the buttons are canted a few degrees differently that a normal gamepad. My only disgust is for the trigger which is actually pretty awful. I wouldn't mind bigger face buttons even if you had to flare the controller body out to fit them. Layout doesn't bother me, even played some 2D games. The haptics are not HD but they are actually strong. Guns are fun to shoot. Who cares if the vibration can't play music, retards can enjoy their buzzing controllers. Smooth and low frequency, feels fucking good.character limit.

But it feels like a non-disorienting motion blur. It's still 100x preferable to stuff looking like shit. You will also notice it in the peripheral from time to time depending on the content, especially if you turn the size down a little to squeeze some more quality. Running 350mbps and turning the foveated area down to 900px or so produced good quality on the worst areas where I like to test compression. Compression was still a bit noticeable in those worst cases though. It's not transparent display port parity magic. Expect in-between. I'm also not a latency fag but without trying to notice, I could immediately tell it was better when I first started playing with low bandwidth settings. That's not placebo. This one hurts, but the sound was embarrassingly bad. I don't care if it's flat from the trebel to 200hz. There's nothing lower than that. I feel bad for the sound lady at valve because they are probably good drivers and the vibration cancelling arrangement is cool, but the sound was suicided for ergonomics/aesthetics/portability. Headsets were funneling the sound through temple arms for a reason. You just can't take tiny speakers and put them that far away from the ears. No bass. No volume. No envelopment. If you don't use the frame as a portable or laying on your side, this stock strap is basically a waste of money for this reason.Tracking had some occlusion hickups. Had a controller fail to re-emerge after being at my side twice. I think when the controller IMUs start drifting from staying still valve just freezes their position and it didn't get woken up. I don't fear this is a problem yet.Passthrough is clearer than quest 2 with better tone detail, it's more stable with a bit less lag so better for walking around, but warping is worse and it's really bad when objects are close to the camera.

It wasn't constantly forgetting my boundaries that I drew. The playspace isn't a "you can only play here" zone. It's just a boundary you can see for safety. It exists for your benefit instead of a retard containment zone.
Got my frame in today with the arcturus color passthrough camera. The color passthrough raw fidelity feels worse than the quest 3, likely due to the display stack.>>582978361The warping if you have the color camera is MUCH better. For anyone unfamiliar, basically the passthrough on the Quest 3 and the default monochrome frame mode have kind of an image warping effect around the edges of objects and especially when things are up close. With the color passthrough though, the effect is significantly reduced. Waving my hand in front of my face looks great. I'm pretty used to the q3 passthrough periphery being a fishbowled out mess so the fact that I can move my eyes around and see things (somewhat) clearly was a very pleasant surprise.

I'm worried that's not fixable because there's intake gaps all around the optical stacks, so air gets drawn across the eye on its way up to the top. Maybe some silicone insert that clogs that up so air can only be sucked in below the lenses? Not sure how it would work with the IPD adjustment but it wouldn't have to be perfect either.I had an issue when playing 2d where the screen/UI would jitter. I gochu fampaiI got it work on linux, using actual steamvr and the dongle and multipath streaming, and besides having to updoot my kernel to 7.2, it actually just werks on my machine. No weird tearing issues or rendering or latency, full 350Mbps bitrate/foeveation. The only nonworking thing I could tell is the desktop overlay, which I sort of accept because I'm running a meme compositor (niri). But as pleasantly surprised as I was that it works at all, I am going to try out wivrn tomorrow and likely stick with that if it works. Much nicer being able to (slop)fix all the issues myself in opensores rather than wait for gaben to do it.The actual hardware is okay I guess. I think if you were new to VR it's still a fine VR headset, but coming from a bigmeme beyond 2 (also with their official audio strap) and 8 years of other headsets, the weight and discomfort of the frame immediately detracts, as does the washed out greys of the LCD and worse resolution. And the mic/audio quality too. Not having a cord dragging around didn't even feel that freeing at least in my modest but not ultra large playspace (~3x2m). However, this also the first wireless headset I've had (I never got zucced, besides a few tries at friend's houses), so I could still be implicitly leashcucked. And also there are still some nice things about the screen like large sweetspot and no noticeable glare, which I also suspect once I get used to it, going back to the bigmeme will feel bad. Oh and >90hz framerate.The controllers are also okay I guess, just weird coming from knuckles. I think I'll get used to them, though I miss the actual palm straps (I will diy some, since I got cucked out of the 'ergo kit'). The capacitive finger tracking actually feels a bit better than the index fwiw, or at least more reliable. Giving my QRD on the Frame as well since I also got it today and spent around 6 hours tinkering with it. Going to start with the negatives and then end with the positives.The biggest elephant to me in the room is the software. I heard it was pretty rough but I was not expecting it to be this rough. Menus upon menus upon menus, bugs where UI elements disappear. Difficult to find basic settings, took me legitimately like 15 minutes of searching just to figure out how to stream just my desktop to the Frame without launching a game.As someone who wanted to escape the buggy Meta OS hell, I have been welcomed into a familiar new hell with the Frame's Steam OS.I was not very impressed with the streaming quality, the artifacting and compression looked worse than my Quest 3 running Steam Link.The picture just looks very grainy. I've tried it with the dongle, without the dongle, with multi-link streaming, it looks roughly the same.It's tolerable but I'm still surprised at just how bad it all looks in comparison to the other wireless headsets I've been using.I also had to really crank the super sampling to like 2.5x/250% just to get it to around the same sharpness as my Quest 3.Audio is horrendous, doesn't get anywhere near loud enough.Comfort without top strap feels quite awful to me. I hate this soft strap meme newer headsets are doing.Controllers feel very good, no idea wtf the complaint was about with these. Can reach all the buttons and build quality is fine.Lenses are good. Not quite Quest 3 tier but still close, very minimal glare, large-ish sweetspot. Very good FoV.I also did not notice any screen door effect. I remember seeing complaints you can notice it compared to Q3. Escape Simulator is actually pretty fun as a casual social game and has flat + Quest + PCVR crossplay as well as custom map support natively so infinite content. The Last Clockwinder is a great puzzle and optimization game that could really only be done in VR. VTOL VR is the best flight game in VR because it's designed around touch controls after the dev got tired of his HOTAS not matching up with the real cockpit while he was in VR in other flight sims. Into the Radius and the sequel are both very good Stalker games if you enjoy exploration and atmospheric shooters. Superhot VR is a very fun but short experience. Forefront is Battlefield VR, Pavlov is Counterstrike VR, both are very solid. Tactical Assault VR and Geronimo are both SWAT 4/Ready or Not VR with various levels of realism, TA VR is well polished but no mods so you run out of maps pretty quickly while Geronimo is still EA but looks promising. Ragnarock is Beat Saber but with easier modding and playing the drums instead of cutting blocks.
