If you have an empty spot on a Darklords deck, is it better to fill it with Indulged or Ukoback? Neither of them are real combo starters, but Ukoback can at least send Gulgolet to the GY for an omnisearch, while Indulged only searches monsters. I dueled on Edo against Phantom Knights with their new support using Bystial Spright + new support (Yomagna, Doll Hammer, Norden, MMF), the third game might be "ideal" YGO as both players got to do their turn 1 endboard then chew through all the opponent's interaction. In my case I went second, broke the board + setup because I couldn't OTK through set 5 + 3 xyzs, and Phantom Knights followup ate through all my interaction. I had like 9 interactions and the deck still had enough gas to make a second Arc Rebellion.IMO this should be the template for balancing YGO. A high-gas deck like Phantom Knights that can extend for days, needs to run a lot of engine to access said gas. A weak engine like Bystial Spright needs to lean on non-engine and tactical play to navigate the layered turn 1. Neither deck had omni-negates. No turnskips with fuwa, roach or droll.Probably not the best kind of game for MD ladder (game 3 took like 30 minutes) but reminds me of better times in YGO before comp took over how players interact with the game.
