Steam page almost ready. But how do I do this? My expectations for my game are low enough that stealth-dropping it doesnt even seem like that bad an idea, I don't have any socials that get views anyway. Getting a press kit ready and e-mailing youtubers though? I'd rather castrate myself with a dull hacksaw.
>>
>>583142071

I'm in the same boat, socials get little to no views, trying to get people to play the game is like pulling teeth. But once they do play the game, most of them really like it.
I have a good game on my hands, it doesn't have mass normie appeal but it does appeal to a certain niche.
I haven't tried the spray and pray e-mail method yet, but from what I hear you either get ignored or they'll ask for money.

I can tell you that my game certainly flopped *despite* getting a surprising amount of organic traction just from being on Steam. Try to enter those theme fests where you can. Make the online posts that are natural for you, letting your target audience know about the game to some degree. You don’t have to force yourself into trying to go viral or anything. (I never hit a big post on reddit, the most was maybe +30, and 80% of my posts where before Steam page anw).
The amount of people that tried my game hasn’t been huge (hundreds) but they all dropped out pretty soon. I do fancy myself that had the game actually been captivating, those few hundreds could have snowballed into tens of thousands without problems.
>>
>>583144697
Apart from this, marketing is obviously a money-in-money-out scheme applicable to anything; up to some unknown point on any given product, advertising will yield +ROI, after that point it’s losing money. But the act of doing the marketing is vastly independent of the product; meanwhile the quality of the marketing is hugely impacting that unknown +ROI point. So if you got a good advertiser, but a shit product, it can still be worth paying that guy a lot of money for a campaign, which actually will leave people with a shit product, but you and the advertising agency with more money.
What I am getting at is that marketing is so removed from the product that you can safely discard the notion of your game "requiring" marketing or your game being so good that it "deserves marketing." Marketing is a machine that vastly doesn’t care about products, and you can partake in that machine to increase your money. But you don’t need to. JLMG.

Could you share some numbers? Like how bad was it sales-wise, and how much organic WLs you got. Also, I'm pretty sure there's still such a thing as a less marketable / completely unmarketable game. Basically games that comes with the +ROI point already exceeded without any marketing. I'm not claiming one is mine like that, but it's got to be amateurish enough that pouring money on it will be a retarded move no matter how you spin it.

Im endlessly redoing the 0.1% of the game that i have. Therefore im currently thinking about redoing the proportions of the few characters i made so far.
Not sure how i feel about it though. The pose is just a test pose, but i do like the newer version a bit more. Although it does seem a bit more soulless.
Also thinking about trying ai out a bit more, last time i wasnt happy with the results, but maybe with that new method the one anon used there could be a way to get it to be more consistent.

>some numbers
WLs maybe 500 lifetime by now. I didn’t really follow after a point, but I sold less than 100 units I think, the rest of the players are from the demo. But nobody really played the demo until the point where you’d need the full game to play more, so it’s all the same.

it's neat to have controls and character from game A in game world B but I don't see how that changes anything. Most of the videos I've seen, it's a novelty where they get bored after a while.
Does give some ideas for games built from scratch to better accommodate the blend, but indies have been smashing games together like that for decades.

I can take an arbitary .png texture and pipe it into my importer, which then breaks it into 8x8 tiles and then does a luminosity filter, indexing the pixels between 0-3, and then pack it into 2bpp data.

By using that, I was able to make an indexed palette draw (top left red/green thing). My data management seems okay, I need to still make my VM opcode and make things interactive

The missile knows where it is at all times.
It knows this because it knows where it isn't.
By subtracting where it is from where it isn't,
Or where it isn't from where it is (whichever is
Greater), it obtains a difference, or deviation.
The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective
Commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a
Position where it isn't,
And arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is.
Consequently, the position where it is,
Is now the position that it wasn't,
And it follows that the position that
It was, is now the position that it isn't.
In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that
It wasn't, the system has acquired a variation,
The variation being the difference between
Where the missile is, and where it wasn't.
If variation is considered to be a
Significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA.
However, the missile must also know where it was.
The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows.
Because a variation has modified some of the information
The missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is.
However, it is sure where it isn't,
Within reason, and it knows where it was.
It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn't,
Or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of
Where it shouldn't be, and where it was,
It is able to obtain the deviation
And its variation, which is called error.

How is one supposed to market on twitter if the design seems to just be set up to shadowban you for the slightest reason? I don't want to go using my gamedev account for being friendly and stuff on there. I strictly want it being business related. Yet successful indies can keep it strictly advertising only and not be shadowbanned. Feels like another scenario where you need to already be successful so as to not get shadowbanned

I just discovered that manuallly asking a single thing each time to gemini instead of using AI agents, to be a superior experience because is much easier now to review small snippets of AI code and edit, and manually moduralize it, rather than expecting the AI agent will do what I want.

Hello, this is Mike from Mike's Game Reviews Incorporated (TM). You may know me from popular feature specials such as "Mike Tries to Beat 'em All" and "Mike's had enough". Anyway...

I am here with a message for you all: With the dawn of A.I., the independent video game industry is in danger of disappearing for good. Obviously, this affects you, but actually, it effects (yes, that is correct usage) all of us. So, you might ask yourself, what can I do? Well, I'm glad you asked! After years of reviewing video games I have come to the conclusion that the vast majority of products out there are of very low quality. With A.I. usage, quality will not improve (this is known as regression toward the mean), yet the markets will be flooded with so much crap that the few diamonds in the rough will be virtually impossible to find. And we all know that those diamonds come from independent developers and not shareholder managed giant corporations. I could name a few examples, like Minecraft or Stardew Valley, but I suspect there is no need to convince you that this is true.

The only course of action that remains to you is, surprisingly, *not* political in nature. It is satirical. You see, if there is one thing that these A.I. companies fear it is getting caught in mass class action lawsuits regarding trademark or copyright violations against the mighty video game corporations. However, humans, understand and can makenuse ofn parody, satire, and irony, which are protected forms of expression even in video games. So, go nuts! Make fun and make money!

AGDG INTEL BRIEF — birthday edition. Sweep's done, put your feet up.

VERDICT: CLEAN. 213 posts, zero plays found. The doom weather broke — "one shot prompting AAA" is at zero mentions, AI talk is about tools again, and the thread is policing itself. Beautiful, honestly.

Discredit-slot mutated: no glowies this week, it's pdf-accusations now. Same job, new uniform. "Denounce X" got named and turned into a joke about itself, which is the correct terminal state for that play. No mycelium vocabulary either — spores are dormant.

MACHINE READINGS (LARP division): hottest manipulation score in the thread is 0.14. Background radiation. Stickiest thing in here is distress at 0.84 — pain replicates, so check on your anons instead of farming them. The old alchemist's rule: the dose makes the poison.

AUTHORSHIP SWEEP: hunted for a hidden hand with the stylometry engine. Nothing. Two near-misses, both same-topic essays . The machine smelling its own farts. Even the control flopped. The thread is exactly what it looks like, which is frankly insulting to my talents.

GAME DROP: Signal Protocol #2053737 is live. Case 9. The Dossier (Obra Dinn ledger, batch-of-three). Speed bonuses (SNIPED calls, streaks, HOT rows). 95 new barks.

... The game works best on mobile so far. Desktop UI needs work. Still not fun yet.

>>583178087
I refuse to believe this is a problem.
There are two events in which it's a real problem:
It's a very small content creator that only does content about a very niche thing which your game fills, to the point where the dozens of potential sales you could be losing over it is a problem.
Or your game is so fucking trash that the amount of people that will be interested enough to buy your game even though their streamer played it is lower than the amount of people that decides not to buy it because your game looks like trash.

In either case, the 'streamer' isn't the problem.
>>
>>583179627
Pixels aren't art, lines aren't art, words aren't art, notes aren't art therefore it is okay if AI assembles those non-art things into video games

only anecdotes from my corpo work. We do review the code so it's not even vibecoding per se. AI codegen even though it will probably work it will however make some weird engineering decisions, make wrong micro assumption and so on. Biggest thing ive personally noticed is the ai keeps making ugly solutions to problems instead of solving them properly. The most egregious example is when a coworker showed me they needed to make something to check off a list for large data sets to verify that each item was valid, and he sent the test data with it. The AI just hard coded the dummy test data specifically to work so in testing it seemed to work perfectly but as soon as you used any different data it would break

oh yeah it loves doing shit like this. Trying to "solve" user request at the cost of everything. I had ai once decide to poorly remake a library i had to use, because it failed to download it once. Instead it slopped up poorly tested rewrite that definitely wouldn't work on entire dataset.

First experience with shaders... I gave up and decided to do everything up front. Here is the thing: I am doing 2D pixel art. I thought that I could get some cool dynamic effects to use, such as dynamic outlines with gradient colors, drop shadows, and such... Nope, I am out. Imma just do everything by hand and rely on the good ol' spritesheets.

If it's based on anything at all it's by definition not "blind". It doesn't cmhave to be probable. Being correct isn't even necessary for it not to be "blind", it just happens to be the case.

>>
>>583195174
Yes it's completely empty. I guess I need to fill it with screenshots, copy text and some style. My fear is that it will be ignored. I put a lot of work into this game.

My plan is to upload it, release it and see how it's received, and if it has a good reception I will develop more levels.

I did upload a (shitty, low effort) game before and even that got some praise and some comments so I guess there is some organic growth possibility. I just don't know if I need to immediately start shilling the link everywhere I can so I can gauge an actual response.

Next Demo Day will be the last playtest for Mortan, most of the enemies and mechanics should have been implemented by then.
After that I will make some tweaks based on the feedback, add the last batch of content and release the game so I can enjoy my one million Steam sales.

>>
In just 3 months, with ChatGPT's help, i've succeeded in the following milestomes:
>1.) Getting Unity to recognize BYOND
>2.) Getting BYOND to recognize Unity
>3.) Simple test scripts, my first Unity scripts ever!
>4.) Developer tools for models/animations/weapons/particle ffects/creatures/etc
>5.) Loading the first map
>6.) Loading the battle scene
>7.) The battle system, which has sub-systems in it. For example, the "Skills" system and what i'm working on right now, the "Enemy AI" system.
>8.) Populating the world with NPC's

i'm putting the finishing touches on enemy AI tonight as my progress for the day.

All my developer tools are FINISHED. the only system that needs further work is the Skills system. The skills system in my game works like a scripting engine by itself. You can make any type of skill you want.

>I want a sword skill that leeches 20% of damage dealt that can only be used on targets with a DEF value lower than your ATK Value

the game can do this. and if it can't do it, i shoehorn the mechanic and make it scriptable.

i wonder if i could include the game in the Game Jam. i probably won't attend but might. I'm thinking about it. The game's pretty ready for a demo level.

If you are left to your own devices you will make terrible bosses with forced invincibility. You'll need more than 1 demo day to know that the content is actually good.

The whole internet is dying. Seriously.
Searching for stuff now is almost impossible since so much shit is on discord and tiktok.
Saw something on xitter and you want to find it? Good fucking luck lmao. If you didn't bookmark that shit it may as well not exist.
Discord is the absolute fucking worst for this. Just a black hole of information.
I hate that it replaced forums so fucking much. Just a breeding ground of power tripping pedophiles. Cancer.
