This is about bedrock, so let's get that out of the way. Since the latest update I noticed a slight input delay when playing on my pc connected to a friend's world on his xbox series s. When switching to my laptop, or even the switch 1, there is no input delay. I assume it's because my pc is old (i5 4670k, 2x760s), but is it that awful that a switch can run the game better than it? Or does anyone else know why this happens and how to fix it?

last night I had some technical minecraft questions, so naturally after a google search didn't answer them I had to join an esoteric discord server where a chinese person answered my question and then sent me a better design via a bilibili video link.

i'd like more lighting options that have a static light level across multiple block states, for example a block or whatever else that creates a light level of 1 over a 15 block radius so you don't end up with insanely obvious patchy lighting but can still keep your base hostile mob proof

My hot take? I hate that every single one of those "Golden Age Minecraft" worlds look the same or that they're trying too hard on the nostalgia and make some bullshit "but it looks good because I spammed glass blocks and carpet and there's pistons for tables"

I much prefer the "generic" looking old-style buildings and castles with tricks like the piston tables to builds that try to block vomit in old versions. The textures in old versions actually pop out, block vomiting with them looks even more atrocious than it does in nu-versions.

Besides lichen spam there's no good options for lighting outdoor areas unless you make lampposts which makes no sense in wilderness areas. The fact you gotta hide lighting int he ground old beta pumpkins were really shows a lack of options. Meanwhile we get a 14th grey block palette set

Do any of you ever get just a bit frustrated when trying to find a certain biome? I'm playing on a 1.8.9 world and I CANNOT find a damned desert biome. I've been exploring around in different directions for a few in-game days, too. All I get is the repeating of:

>extreme hills

Found just one jungle too and as you can imagine I also boated over a few oceans and deep oceans. But no desert. I know that in 1.8.9 (or at least I think so) the biomes were already generated grouped together based on temperature and humidity but come on now. What's a man got to do for a bit of hot and dry climate?

The mojang way is that if you want to automate something, you have to make a giant ugly complicated redstone contraption to do it. This has always been intentional by mojang, if you disagree you're a tourist and you're wrong. They have added a lot of QoL to redstone over the years like observers, which in their own way are a simplification of earlier contraptions like Bud pistons, but the overall design philosophy has stayed in place.

Create isn't a good comparison for the one-block thing, as it is one of the tech mods that has tried to retain the vanilla minecraft philosophy of needing larger contraptions to do things, just making them look visually a tad better.
Something like Botany Pots for example, one block that creates infinite resources of whatever you tell it to.

All those kind of machines are just glorified furnaces. The alternative is a big multiblock that is functionally equivalent except it takes up more space or some a Create Rube Goldberg thing that looks like nothing that's ever existed in vanilla.

At the end of the day it's all just a way to turn some ingredients into an output, and in vanilla your only options are crafting table, Magic Block (furnace/crafter), or much more recently the stonecutter-style "grab something out of a GUI" thing.

I'm excited for the Sift but I can't help but get the sinking feeling that it's key-jingling to distract from something really really bad that Mojang/Microsoft is about to do

The majority of the hardcore player base for Minecraft plays on Java edition, a large chunk of that is due to player-based modifications.
