GW1 just received it's first major balance patch in nearly 13 years, the original balance dev returned after having left anet years ago solely to nerf smiter's boon again to sate his unquenchable hatred of smite monks. Based.

Canthan new year finally concluded today, our sponsored district was a great success with more than 20+ alliance members and at least 5-10 thread lurkers showing up. Overall great success and fantastic turnout, we'll definitely have to do this again next year.

Make soul bind work on more than just direct healing nerf its damage if you need to. Reduce cast time for orders, soul leech, vampiric spirit, mark of subversion, barbs, soul barbs, wither, ect. Buff lingering curse anti heal to 33%.

A lot of the changes are good, or at very least interesting, most of the complaining comes from the PvP crowd. Specifically the pious restraint change. Pious restraint was already a super meta pick for dervs used primarily by GvG crowd because it was a ranged cripple skill you couldn't dodge. The counter play was to run a cripple shield, or a condi removal and get out of range of the derv, but with the current change a derv can now cripple spam you faster than you can cleanse it.

There was a lot of PvP changes to derv especially that were already semi meta picks that saw frequent use in PvP (not PvE) that now make dervs even more annoying to deal with when they were already a staple of any PvP team.

Unlikely desu, consume soul armor ignoring damage is single target and only a buff of about 10~ damage. The reason it's meta in PvP now because 80 extra damage is enough to 3-2-1 instant kill spike <600 HP players. 1000 HP PvE enemies laugh at this.

DwG is still the better elite for 8 man rit team (if you wanted to try one for PvE).

Jokes aside, this is always the case with every PvP game in existence, always has been even as far back as 2005 (IWAY).

The fun part of GW1 is there are so many skills and the game is pretty well balanced that you can have natural strategies arise that hard counter this. It's easy to take one look at this video and assume it's unbeatable when in reality this team had so much stacked up for it.

The map they picked specifically benefits anyone who can win the 8v8 fight in the center, fall back gives them the movement to easily collapse any split attempts. On a map like frozen isle, this team likely falls apart because it can't do split strats at all.

What's more, once people become aware of this strategy it's pretty easy to make preparations to counter it, simply running a high HP set is probably enough to stop the spike from working entirely. The newly buffed fertile season (raises max HP of everyone) also probably fucks this strategy up. Alternatively using the growing popular spiritgay set up Union is a HARD counter especially with Shelter. Hell all you need to do is get a lucky Diversion off and the entire comp falls apart.

But when you're not expecting this it's easy to be taken by surprise by a strat you've never seen before. Nobody expects 8 ritualist dive bombing their team at max speed.

Tahnnakai temple we wiped 4 times on the rit room. We couldn't pull the enemies and our group had no AoE other than double dragon, but it's hard to use double dragon when you eat 5 mind burns and die in a fiery explosion before you can reach melee range.

We finally got lucky and managed to get a few pulls and I went Life Barrier to bond slave while managing the NPC's so they didn't run forward.

and THEN we got to arborstone happened, the first run we agreed to run down the middle like men, and then we wiped so we agreed we were all woman and would take the northern path instead. Unfortunately the esurge mesmer boss spawned and absolutely fucked us, so half the group walked onto the northern path already at like 30-45% DP.

And then we stood too close together and a chandelier fell on our entire group and wiped half the group. And then we kept dying to ceiling falling on us, but there was no ceiling so it must be kormir throwing rocks at us to clean up. A group of 3 oni nearly full wiped us, but we somehow managed to reach the boss room, but we accidently killed boss first, which caused Danika to leroy jenkins into a group of like 15 ele's and necros and we wiped.

no it's actually a legit PvP item, botters don't need to spend a billion gold to kill themselves a reg vamp and 4-5 super runes does that just fine.

In GvG every 2 minutes on the clock all players are resurrected, so it's a legit strat to wait until the timer passes to kill them after time, so they are stuck out of the game for 2 full minutes as opposed to instant ressing. The only way to prevent this from happening is running a double vamp weapon so you can quickly kill yourself thus allowing you to base res.

you just mash your aoe shouts to keep HR refreshing and your team just.. does more damage because they're +4 to all attributes at all times, while also taking less damage from everything.
I've done multiple vanquishes of Morostov trail today and there's that one cul-de sac that's kinda tight and pretty crowded and gave my other characters some trouble cause of how congested it is and the tight space trying to pull them out, but with my HR Para I just waded in and my team felt invincible and melted everything, 20 domination and illusion with like 16 fast casting mesmers, that have 160 armor and take 35% less damage from everything pretty much sustainable.
and I just tab targeted and chucked spears shouting constantly.
it also went faster because I never paused to set up shelter ahead of time, I didn't want HR to fall off of anyone (sometimes the rits and bip might have it fall off cause they lag behind to cast spirits)
it goes so smooth but it's really brain dead.

Sup. Thoughts on optimizing HB for 'of the necro' + playing with heroes w/ guaranteed bip? I think you can do way better than the pvx bar.
I think Dwarven Stability and Serpent's Quickness are main bar, hear me out.
Necro mod is 1e/second and the energy management spells available to monks are roughly worth 0.4-0.7e/second. I'm also of the belief that monks don't remove conditions unless they have nothing better to do. RoF can easily be substituted for Dismiss for times you think you need it. This frees up 3 slots with minimal cost.
Closer-to double monk Healing Seed uptime, double the hex removal speed of a cure hex monk, synergy with RoF, more throughput on HB so the second heal that already wasn't necessary isn't missed.
Optional slot = whatever prot's best for the area. Aegis has extra value and Spirit Bond slightly less value because overusage while spamming other spells has to be watched a little more.
Tested it out today in EOTN dungeon runs, a vanq and also intentionally overpulling and causing a panic/potential wipe scenario against melee, caster, and mixed packs of difficult mobs w/ standard HB and this build. Feels very good so far. We'll see with harder content.
Anyone have a better idea, or see an optimization you could make?

the first optional on the pvx build is already borderline not needed and a lot of people already use it as a flex slot, with sq you definitely don't need a second heal. rof's still really good because its prot and synergy with SQ. RoF really should be optional: RoF, Dismiss, Draw with RoF being the default choice.
keep in mind hero team build, caster player, theres no melee who needs heavy cond removal in this build's use case anyways so other heroes on the team can suffice. i don't like taking it on monk anyways, healing prayers just has nothing better to put on its bar.

Yeah in a team full of casters, unless an area has dazed, you don't really need it. I don't bother to remove conditions other than deep wound, blind, weakness, and cripple, and that's mostly to help melee. If my caster heroes are crippled, good, maybe they'll hold still and soak up aggro while I prot them.

Speaking of hex removal, I wonder about going full prot with a bar like this and take the shiny new 5e divert hexes (with 3s CD during SQ), then do team healing with your freed up Remove Hex slot to use divine healing/heaven's delight, which will be 8s cd each. Might be nice for areas that have EotN mandragors, where you can simultaneously cleanse Fevered Dreams + Dazed while hitting 200+ spot heals every 3s for 5e. Or any other place with heavy use of obnoxious hexes.

The more I think about it, the more apparent it becomes that player skill choice is indirectly proportional to mana cost. With the exception of Elementalist, most professions tolerate 10 mana costs on a couple of skills but if you go to 15 it starts going downhill. If I could guess, I would say that the total mana cost of all skills in the bar is fairly low. I think the game needed more reliable ways to regenerate mana. Especially to non healer professions.

Something that bothers me somewhat is how much energy costs are faked by the primary profession mechanic, largely as a way to disincentivize using those nonprimary skills effectively when not on that profession. Elementalist skill costs take the presence of both energy storage and attunements to achieve a relative cost that's similar to a mesmer casting mesmer skills. Using as many 10 and 15 cost ele skills on an off profession would drain you immediately. Bow skills are higher cost than average because they expect to be used with expertise, meaning non rangers get kind of screwed. Dervish has the same thing with flash enchantments and mysticism. Monk has this but with heal strength not energy cost, and Mesmer has it with cast and recharge times. It just limits the cross class build design in a contrived way.

Running prot skills is a waste if you are running an ST in this comp I would just focus on healing prayers, otherwise you are spreading your stats too thin (needing at least 6 points in wilderness, no less than 7 in protection prayers, and you're missing out on raw divine favor healing while playing Healing Burst which is somewhat reliant on divine favor really feels bad).

Ironically I actually like this build better without Of Necro and instead with a 20% enchanting mod cause you could afford to stick on Selfless Spirit + serpents quickness can almost give you 100% uptime on casting discounted spells, I might have to try that later.

I would swap Shield of Absorption with Seed of Life (I prefer it over Healing Seed, especially if you're playing Healing Burst and you're expecting to have decent Divine Favor).

Another anon mentioned condi's aren't super important in a caster team which I agree with. And I personally like Cure Hex over Remove Hex but I don't know your hero situation.

Patient Spirit is an absolute classic as well I would go for that over a weak RoF as a better spot heal.

If you're not playing with an ST/Prot though this changes things.

because downed is seen by the devs as just another combat state like stun and they just imagine you always being surrounded by other players to pick you up, they thought it fair to make it so that getting downed in 1 shot in a clusterfuck of particle effects so you couldn't even see telegraphed attacks was normal.
Because obviously you just have other players kneel for 2s and pick you back up.
But it's simply not fun
and you'd get downed and the boss would plant an aoe field right on top of you that you couldn't get out of.
this also happened in story instances where yeah, most people don't run those in groups, and the NPC's are hit and miss whether they will res you or not. Sometimes you'd get downed because your'e surrounded by ranged characters each 1 of them 1 shots you to downed, (2 shot if you built "tanky", another thing that bothered me, building tanky was never worth it), and if they're all on you, 2 dodges and 30-60s cooldowns are just not enough
So you get downed, your NPC's are too busy.. doing almost no damage, so you try to bandage, and a ranged mob interrupts it, you get hit not that often to give you hope you'll be able to rally, but the eneies are not close enough to dying to rally off them and your bandage keeps getting interrupted.
Sou you're just stuck in this crippled state for a long fucking time slowly dying.

right the problem there is that they designed downed as being a normal expected combat state, that's why they gave it a skill bar, made it easy to recover from, and made traits for it.
Devs had a disconnect from their audience, devs expected it to be a normal part of everyday play like any other condition, but players see it as "slow death".
But because of this expectation by the devs, that downed is just a normal state you can recover from, everyone is super squishy, very glass cannon, and you had limited ways of dealing with incoming damage.

GW1 was simply worked on in an era where the term "e celeb" wasn't even a thing yet, even the concept of esports was pretty new back then. Hard to be an e-celeb when our game literally predates youtube's existence, and subsequently got ceased in development within 3 years of it's birth.
