Just passed a thousand resets in Brilliant Diamond hunting for Dialga. It's a lot faster to reset than the Let's Go hunts I was doing before, so it's not too hateful. That mess took me 6 months to hunt the four legendaries (primarily on account of Articuno taking 25k resets)

Reminder that Banks death will not be the end of Gen 7 and before shiny hunting for modern games. You won't be able to move pokemon officially but if you have hacked 3ds + hacked switch you'll be able to dump saves from 3ds, load into PKHeX and move the pokemon onto a switch pokemon save. Anything you caught after pokemon bank shut off date, just go and edit all date values for catch date, ribbons, etc. Worst case scenario its not home compatible but with save restoring and backup you won't have to give up shiny mons on older carts, you'll just be cloning into newer guns essentially. Its save edit faggotry but the most benign kind possible, you caught them legitimately and denying the ability to move pokemon up generations is equally as bad as dexit IMO.

They can be hunted fresh in Switch barring shiny locks or cockblocks like BDSP event items (unless you use glitches to reach their maps). There is also the matter of GO. They have released most of the Nat Dex species and are available as shiny whenever in rotation (only a handful of these shinies remain drip-fed). Sure they could close at any given moment and that source of shinies would be lost (which includes several shiny mythics) but doesn't seem plausible at the moment businesswise. In conclusion, focus should be about balltism shinies that have a real possibility of eternal cockblock (because they would be FOMO'd into paid GO quests); for example Deoxys and Mew, while available shiny in GO are limited to Premier Ball and Poke Ball respectively. Another focus point should be old Ribbons for your shiny or any other autism reason like origins (Region met and/or Origin Mark if it applies)

For SOS hunting Pokémon in gen 7 have a chance at the end of each turn to call a second Pokémon, mostly the same species but sometimes a different species. Pokémon have different call rates which you’ll have to look up. Some never call for assistance. Using an adrenaline orb makes, having a Pokémon with the ability pressure and the wild Pokémon having low health makes it more likely for them to call. These aspects stack. Type:Null and Poipole require soft resets in front of the NPC who gives them to you. These are late game Pokémon and are not affected by the shiny charm.
