Why is Chikorita unanimously referred to as a "her" in the Pokemon fandom? I get people have headcanons, but I literally see everyone do it.

Ash's was female
The one in Team Go-Getters from the PMD anime special was female
The one in PokePark was female (out of Pikachu's friend group, which consists of Charmander, Piplup, and Chikorita, she's the only female)

It literally has an anime girl face

Anglophones have severe brain damage and interpret Pokémon as individual cartoon characters

Chikorita is a notorious CHARIZARD killer in the anime so everytime someone mentions how awesome Chikorita is, CHARIZARD fans come out of the woodwork in an attempt to preserve the "awesomeness" of their obese lizard. Even the very mascot of the franchise Pikachu knows to present THE Chikorita with food in an attempt to quell her anger.

You can't use refer to Chikorita as "they" because burgers have an aneurysm whenever you use as "they" as singular even though English has no gender neutral singular pronoun to use in situations where gender is unknown or irrelevant, the English is an inconsistent hodgepodge of bullshit rules that most burgers are too lazy or to stupid to learn anyway, and they use "you" as singular and plural all the fucking time.
You can't refer Chikorita as "it" because Pokefans have an aneurysm when you a non human as "it" even though that's literally what the Pokémon franchise says you should do, also non-humans are almost always referred to as it anyways.
Therefore Chikorita has to have a gendered pronoun forced on, and since "Chikorita" sounds like a woman's name, "she" gets use despite the species being containing males and female.

Most pokemon are clearly designed to be seen as either male or female.
>>
>>56116604
Its because she looks femenine, anon. Do you call feminine-looking creatures as males, op? Are you a fag?

Hello Europoor

Because Ash's was female and they didn't add any others of a different gender to cast aspersions on it.

Anyone using her or him to describe pokemon is a politics obsessed faggot.

Wouldn’t it be spics since “Chikorita” sounds like a nickname for a little girl in spanish?
>>
>>56117391
No, maybe Spics do it too but it's English speakers that I'm taking issue with in this context

Adding to this, partner Chikorita in PMD Explorers is always female, same goes for Torchic. OG Rescue Team does the same thing for both, but it's only noticeable in the Japanese version. (watashi, feminine dialogue)
PMD Explorers in particular has a "masculine=male/feminine=female" approach, even counts for genderless legendaries.
