The N3DS is less blurry because of the smaller screen in standard mode and the N3DS XL has the same size screen as the standard DS when playing in native mode. Both are compromises, with a DSi XL you get both, a large screen and native resolution. Even if you luck out and get a rare N3DS with an IPS you still wont get the full size screen. Every single DSi XL has the higher quality IPS screen, no lottery necessary. I'm not debating or stating an opinion, I'm stating facts for those looking for the best experience. You can play DS games on your 3DS all you want, it's an option for those who only want one system. It will not be the best quality option however.

>>57210296That is true, based on my sample size of two a piece the DSs are about half a brightness level brighter than the DSi XLs. It's a tradeoff however since the DS has worse viewing angles going from washed out bright to dark unless you hold it at the best angle. The DSi XL is always nice and crisp even if it's not as bright. Speaking of screen quality, both my DSs have severe yellowing around the screen, so does one of my DSi XL, the other is not as severe. The GBA SP, micro, N3DS, and N3DS XL, can also have these issues. Thankfully it is not noticeable in gameplay except for those white screens, but the future seems quite bleak. We'll be dependent on chinesium screens for the long run. Personally, I'll stay OEM until I can't play the games.

I bought an IPS one with the least yellowing I could find but even then I don't think I would buy them from Japan again. There are a couple theories why the grey part of the Gamecube yellows but in my opinion it has to be the same reason. I lucked out and found a great condition Japanese Gamecube in the US with no yellowing but I saw a lot of them listen in Japan with lots of yellowing. I can't figure out why Nintendo being a Japanese company doesn't do better in this aspect, it's not a new issue.
