Based on what's been teased thus far, they'll probably have to face Zygarde in whatever new form it gets in PLZA afterwards. Someone compared this series to a fantasy JRPG and it's much more akin to that than typical Pokémon. The protagonists usually fight as a party of three and opponents are like raid bosses, right now they only make a full team of six Pokémon by adding up their teams of two each (plus Terapagos who doesn't yet battle) and they've all been getting the same amount of training, see how each of them has one starter and they're all learning moves and evolving at the same general pace. It's meaningless to compare Liko directly to Ash, there are three equal battlers here rather than one powerful battler and his companions who barely battled.
