Seaglass is a fine product for what it is even if it's not my preference, but the white outlines kill it for me and the art style is clashing in some places. But I think the issue is mostly that some people are tired of seeing it sucked off as a masterpiece when past the graphics it's literally just another fucking Emerald QoL. Like christ, at this point Moemon is a better Emerald rom than most of what people recommend, at least it actually changes things.

I don't know what they were smoking when they put the level cap on gym 2 at 20 and the immediate next fight with an ace at 24, but it's nice to have a game that actually feels somewhat challenging and has noticeable changes to the level design, even if it suffers from encounter bloat.
>>
>>57283849
Unbound and Gaia don't get nearly the same attention of something like Radical Red.
>>
the masses want something easy to digest, so they prefer the equivalent of MgRonald's wise so it's still the same general feeling. Pretending that adding mayo (qol/"difficulty" in this case) on top of it somehow makes it spicier
only a small minority of the already small group that plays hacks and fangames want something that takes effort to both produce and play, it also does not help thay nowadays most devs just want youtuber clout rather than making a game they are proud of

Did a slight Sunflora rework
>HP: 75 -> 105 (+30)
>ATT: 75
>DEF: 55
>SpA: 105 -> 115 (+10)
>SpD: 85 -> 95 (+10)
>Speed: 30 -> 60 (+30)
>Total: 425 -> 505
>Evolution: Sun Stone -> Friendship
>Now learns Solar Beam upon evolving
This converts Sunflora to something resembling a gen 2 Gyarados, with Sunkern being dead weight (will receive +10 to HP, DEF, SpD) until you invest effort into it, giving you a decent midgame bomb that scales into the late game. Also thinking of giving it Drought, but that seems overturned and Chlorophyll is now usable with the speed buff.
Also overhauled the move pool a bit but that early solar beam is a core piece.

>>57284257
NTA, honestly I know some people don't like fakemons that much but if I ever make a fangame/hack I'm not touching stats-typing-move distribution and any perceived needed buffs I'll handle with regional variants or new evos. Altering existing mons just feels way too fanficy to me, not to mention some people seem to forget some mons are supposed to be weaker than others and that at lower levels you're meant to have weaker moves. I've seen one too many roms handing out 70 to 90 bp moves before the second gym as supposed QoL. GF isn't great at balance but it seems everyone who thinks they're better is even worse at understanding pokemon games.

It's also a communication thing. There's no easy and elegant in-game way to let players know the mons they're already familiar with are now different and making people read documentation is cringe, but if the mons are visually different that'll get players curious.
>>
>>57284644
>to let players know the mons they're already familiar with are now different
This is a big part of why I play hacks in the first place so this is fine with me. Hacks like Inclement Emerald have all the information you’d need in the Dex itself rather than outside resources.

Yeah but you still need to check them individually and wonder if they were changed, which I find innately tedious. Even worse if it's a type change on an evo while the pre-evo is the same (largely done to shitmons who you wouldn't evolve in the first place without knowing the evo was buffed), or with learnset and ability changes. Regional variants are a convenient visual shorthand for "this thing is different" so the player knows what's the same and what isn't.

It’s barely any time to scroll through the Dex and most people are using a handful of Pokemon. Regional variants have various levels of changes from the original. Some share everything but the type while others have different play styles. Regional variants also tend to be be downgrads in terms of design so I’d rather deal with the 10 seconds of opening a Dex than seeing a Fakemon

What's with Pokemon fangame makers that has them on one hand seek for attention, even here on 4chan, but then when they are starting getting recognized or it doesn't go exactly as they've planned in their heads, they start making up lies to their audience and convince others they are being harassed or stalked?
Pic rel, dude wanted to capitalize and earn on his blog and page views from showing the game sprites, so when someone datamined and compiled them, they made up lies that they were being harassed by ists and phobes, which is still going on, instead of admitting they only cared about money and positive responses.
If you put yourself on the internet and now you regret something from the past, that's your responsibility, not other people's.

>Then you get to the first actual route with trainers and the NPCs are literally the same as default Emerald, with no changes to their dialogue, but moved around and with new teams that make those dialogues nonsense. You get the little kid who sneezes in the tall grass except now he's not in the grass, and a guy with a Palafin and other water mons complaining about his Magikarp (he has no Magikarp).
Ahhhh I see, thx for explaining anon. The npc dialogue not matching new mons has always been weird to me in some hacks, sometimes I can't tell if its a joke or an oversight. With a team (devs) of their size I wanna lead towards the former, but maybe none of them care enough, especially if the teams (trainers) keep getting changed.
I do love the trainer spots being moved around a bit to force a few more encounters, kinda reminds me of Emerald Kaizo... although Kaizo takes that to a much greater extreme. The huge disparities between total battles won in the HoF screen for different people shows just how many optional battles there are, I did every battle I possibly could and ended with ~525 wins after the initial HoF, and ~557 after all the post-game fights/rematches (could've gotten perfect trips if not for a couple unnecessary rematches against Cynthia and Calvin... but alas). Seen some people beat the game in the ballpark of 130ish wins, so still plenty of freedom at least.

>The next encounter bugs out the screen and rewards you with a different mon than the one you caught
Huh? Tbh I never actually caught anything in my run of ER, I just used the BS Dexnav instant acquisition feature. Maybe in my next runs I'll see it when I go for the early game Manaphy because fuck Steven Stone, and fuck Team Aqua.

and besides that, the map is just boring. it's a step above people's literal first maps that get posted on reddit, but only barely, and absolutely does not reflect the 5+ years that David has been working on his project. it's well put together in that he does know how to use the tileset, which sets it apart from truly amateur maps, I'll give him that, but the layout and design is as boring as it gets and utterly lacking inspiration or creativity.

Tbf I have a lot more tolerance for fan-made regional forms and/or evos of existing mons than raw fakemon personally. If the designs are decent and they look fun to use I'll use them. RR and Altered Platinum had some nice regional forms too, also Blazing Emerald and Platinum Redux which I've yet to play. Inclement Emeralds dev Buffel Saft is also hopping on the bandwagon for their their upcoming 2.0 update too!

I personally don't understand why people need to shove politics into everything (I mean, I do, this is just rhetorical); I definitely have my own views on current topics - as anybody else -, but it is distressing to think about politics 24/7. Pokémon, to me, serves as escapism - when I play I don't want to think about Trump or troons or whatever.
Do these people ever have fun?
Also, adding in Islam makes no sense... The Pokémon World is a ficticious one. There are no real-world religions.

Interesting, Crystal Clear has a similar functioning NG+ feature.
>I swear I'm the only one here who actually likes Seaglass/Lazarus' graphics
From what I've seen I do love the new visuals that the dev bought, and clearly a lot of other people do, but as others have said sides from the graphics, pokemon buffs, and cross-gen evos/regionsl forms, it just doesn't sound too transformative... not enough to justify a run in the near-future anyways.
I do think its popularity is very telling though, a lot of people don't mind going through the same game again for the XYZth time if it has a new coat of paint, qol/enhancenent hack complaints be damned. I guess the millenial nostalgia plays a big part.
I won't speak on clashing artstyles I've seen mentioned a lot as I haven't gone through it myself to getca full picture.

>>57284201
I like giving it a Gyarados-type overhaul. Sunkern had the lowest BST in the game until Wishiwashi... and Wishiwashi has a BIG asterisk next to it. It's still a slow mono-grass type that needs to rely on Sun to sweep. I'd probably even buff the defense a bit myself.

How would you guys go about designing a fangame? As opposed to an official game, I mean.
I'm on the design stage of my own fangame (i.e., I'm just ideas guy-ing atm - though I've toyed with previous projects in Essentials, which haven't seen the light of day), and initially my idea was to make it my 'ideal' Pokémon game, as if it were just a new generation. The problem is that the way a player approaches an official game is different from a fangame - official games have more longevity since they have multiplayer content and, as actual games, the intention is that you keep playing them for quite a bit. But with fangames, you usually complete the story (perhaps even the Pokédex as well, if it has Fakémon) and that's about it. The motivations that a player has differ between an official title and a fangame.
There really isn't an incentive to include stuff like contests or secret bases, because they're really just superfluous to the singleplayer experience. In the official games, these are good additions, since they extend the total playtime of the game - but in fangames, I feel like they're kinda superfluous. (This might just be my autism, though)
For example, I'd like to add contests in the game, but would they really matter? They'd just be unnecessary, as I don't feel that players would really care about it. I do plan to add Fakémon, and I could gate a couple behind contests, but that just feels like a dick move.
Similarly, in an official game, I'd want a long postgame - but for a fangame, I think that'd detract from the experience since it'd make it drag on for too long.
So, tl;dr, I want to design a game that'd feel like it was made by Game Freak (er, in a good way, I mean, haha), but the problem is that I feel like designing an official game and designing a fangame are two very different things, and what might make sense in one doesn't make sense in another. Or am I just being too autistic?

Gamefreak just doesn't give a shit about some pokemon. Remember how fucking long it took flareon to get flareblitz? Or Heliolisk to get Solarbeam?

Look at this learnset. Weepinbell is stuck using fucking vine whip, a level 1 move, until goddman level 44 to learn razor leaf. It learns this move later than any other pokemon in the game. It has been this way since Gen 1 when movesets were limited. In fact, in Gen 1 it learned it at level 38, so GF made it worse. While Ivysaur got it at level 30 in Gen 1 and it has been reduce to level 12 (bulbasaur). There is no excuse for this.

The only way this gets fixed is if you evolve it and make it remember moves. But then you are at the mercy of when GF decides to give you a leafstone and make move remembering accessible.

Now compare this to Gloom, its counterpart from Gen 1. Gloom gets Giga Drain at level 20 and Moonblast at 32, one of the earliest pokemon to get access to it.

In what fucking world does gamefreak understand how to balance pokemon and why on earth should I trust them?

Honestly it's probably a symptom of grass type move design in general. 30 moves named "leaf X" and 3 moves generically designated as "drain" attacks. They really needed aggression linked to status, not offensive moves. Solar Beam should be the exception, not the rule. Solar blade is a cancer.
>Leafage

Tell me the power, accuracy, and secondary effects of these moves at a glance. Especially the late additions they couldn't even be fucked to name (leafage, leaf Tornado)

Think about what things you'd love to have in a pokemon game and add them. If there's some optional fluff content you love doing, chances are somebody else loves it too.

>I do plan to add Fakémon, and I could gate a couple behind contests, but that just feels like a dick move.
Nothing wrong with that.

Whatever you do, don't try to pander to the "blitz through all the game content at 8x speed as efficiently as possible" crowd, because they're never satisfied and your game will end up worse as a result.

>>
>>57291467
don't overthink it, just make the game you want to make. if you try to please everybody you'll get nowhere, because every single person has a different idea of what the perfect Pokemon game is. and you're not getting paid anyway, so it doesn't really matter if some subgroup of the community doesn't like your game. the only way you'll make it through the dev process is if you have passion for what you're making.
>>
>>57291467
I made a GSC hack and stripped away a lot of the GSC features(days of the week, radio, phone calls) because I wouldn't expect most players to bother interacting with them and because it saved me the effort. People won't be playing one save in a rom hack for several years like they would an official game, so I decided to focus on making a replayable experience that, while it still has optional content, trims away much of the fat of an official game.
>>
>>57292951

Moving Razor Leaf to an earlier level doesn't magically make Weepinbell viable. it is clearly development oversight since no one gives a shit about this pokemon so GF makes zero effort to fix it for over 20 years. I honest don't care about it either but use it as an example of GF failures.

Just like Gen V pokemon having late game evolutions (Due to the XP system of Gen V), but GF putting them on early routes in future games without adjusting their levels. Or the fact that the Nidoking/queen lines have shit learnset still unless you evolve them and move remember them because they are supposed to be buffed by TMs, but in later games GF gate kept powerful TMs until the endgame or post game and get outpaced by then.

Add something new for fuck's sake!
It's not easy, but it's what separates projects from the pack. The traditional Pokemon formula has a ton of unexplored design space. Consider these concepts that have crossed my mind:
>Game with Shadow Pokemon, but their mechanics are better developed
>Game where the player travels between Magma and Aqua's Hoenn
>Trainer sim with limitations layered on top of existing ones, like TMs counting toward a team limit, or Pokeballs being very expensive
>Nuzlocke-inspired game, but with more creative conditions than Pokemon disappearing after fainting once, like losing a random move, or losing IVs
>Game about a channeler using dead Pokemon to take the form of living Pokemon, and must rechannel after one faints
>Play as a surveyor who explores and develops a new region, blending roguelike, survival, and city sim mechanics

Also I forgot to mention that you can have multiplayer if you use essentials. I have it right now although it only works for trading and battling. If you really wanted to put the effort in though or you found someone else to do it for you then you could go even further with it.
>>
>>57296829
I saw the plugin when browsing Eevee Expo! It does seem interesting. But the issue at hand was more about the way players approach a fangame vs. how they approach an official game - I'd say that the vast majority of people who look for Pokémon fangames are usually thinking about a singleplayer experience. Plus, a big advantage that the official games have, in terms of multiplayer, is the large install base - any hypothetical multiplayer feature, and whatever's locked behind it, would suffer from the fact that there's just simply not enough people. Trade evos are already an issue in GF games - imagine them in fangames!
>>
>>57297649
Singleplayer is easier to balance because you can make powerful boss-like mons and gimmick move/abilities.

The closest a fangame/hack has come to panning out like that which you're aspiring to is Unbound, so maybe play that to get a sense of what can be done within the traditional framework.
The Borrius region is basically a patchwork of gen 4 and 5 maps, offering a lot of biome diversity. Actually, IMO, its story could've been a lot better if it focused on its diverse environment instead of interdimensional woowoo.

Lol, that's actually more or less what the plot of my fangame's going to be about. The backstory is that the Chroma region used to be divided into little statelets, each one with their own distinct regalia. When the region was attacked by an outside force, all of these banded together and, with their regalia, invoked the region's guardian - the legendary Pokémon - to help them. They won against the outside force, and the legendary was sealed away again. Each of the respective regalia was returned to its part of the region, hidden away, still imbued with the power to invoke the legendary. The evil team wants to seize all of the artifacts so that it can invoke the legendary again and rule the region. After you defeat them, a sidequest opens to return all the artifacts to their place, with accompanying mini-stories about the specific place. I really want to make the region feel alive, and for each location to be distinct and memorable - I plan to make about a couple of sidequests in each city, so that you don't breeze through the region during your playthrough, but actually take the time to appreciate it, its history, and its inhabitants.
Sorry if all of this sounds too pretentious lol.

Just a friendly suggestion, you might want to trim that down to less than 20. 15 is already plenty, assuming you're doing the standard 8 gym + league formula. You'll find that it's hard to create that many unique, memorable locations, let alone fill them with things to do.

Your story sounds fine btw, if a bit generic.

I did actually plan out what each settlement's theme would be; I first drew the 'skeleton' of the region and then made the geography from that, haha.
I'm planning to have 10 gyms instead of the usual 8, which is why there's so many locations. Though I also wanted to have at least one settlement between each gym (save for the gap between gym 1 and 2) - I don't like how many modern titles have two cities with a gym separated by just a route, it feels like the story's on a rush imo.
Admittedly you're right in that the scope of this is quite large; knowing myself, I doubt that the finished project will be as ambitious as I initially planned out.
Honestly, the story's been through a fair bit of revisions. I've been having this story in mind since 2017. Originally, it was kinda parodic, poking fun at my own country's (Spain) politics. The region was not based on Spain, but its characters were. The plot involved the leader of the evil team (which irl is the largest supermarket chain in the country, Mercadona) wanting to invoke the legendary to deal with all the protests in the region. But I've cut out a lot of what I originally planned since I don't want to involve politics in the fangame, and also I want a more serious/vanilla-like experience.
I actually ended up materializing my original idea, more or less - I still have a 3-gym demo saved in my computer. It's in Spanish though

I don't think there's anything wrong with a vanilla-like hack, it might be a little harder to stand out but there's definitely an audience for it. that's basically what Gaia is and it's one of the most celebrated romhacks. thing is though, if you're not going to have any gimmicks, then you need to do the formula well.
I'm actually working on a vanilla-like hack myself, cause like you doing my own spin on that is what got me interested in hacking. and when I think about what made me fall in love with the games on the gameboy and ds, it was the regions themselves, and the sense of adventure and traversal. so, instead of making some kind of gimmicky hook, I've been putting extra care and focus into mapping and crafting a world that's fun to explore, and hopefully that's enough to draw some people in. and if not, well at least I made the game I wanted to.

>>57298562
I do agree with the other anon that this might be overly ambitious, you risk burning out on this. for reference, so far I've mapped in my region 12 towns, ~20 routes, and a handful of dungeons and side areas. and that's taken me over a year of near daily work and I still have a lot to do (including programming). of course it will depend on your skill and how fast/often you work, but just to give you an idea.
>I don't like how many modern titles have two cities with a gym separated by just a route, it feels like the story's on a rush imo.
one thing you can do to break up the pacing instead of adding more routes/towns is to add little quests or dungeons in between gyms. like, maybe you have to ascend a tower in town before you can face the gym. or go on a fetch quest like getting the medicine for Jasmine. I try to have something like that to do in every major town so it doesn't just feel like you're flying from gym to gym. not all of them are mandatory, optional content too is a nice reward for people who want to take their time.

anyway good luck bro, you sound like you have a strong vision.
>>
How do you feel about E4 and (later) gyms having full teams? I'm personally iffy on giving 6 mons to early gym leaders after trying some roms that do, and certainly against doing it to all random trainers in anything other than a challenge hack, but I feel like after a certain point the smaller team sizes get a little ridiculous and the official games tend to err too far on the easy side.
>>
>>57299233
For the last 2 or 3 gyms, sure. The player is going to have a full party figured out by that point.
I wouldn't do it for the E4 because they're a gauntlet.

>>57298562
>tropical town + tropical big city
>pink town + pink city
>blue town + blue city
I would condense these personally. You know your region better than me, but from the outset it seems like these locations would be redundant. Keep in mind that cities have a LOT of NPCs, and you'll want them to do gameplay-relevant things (move tutors, fishing rods, pokemon gifts, etc.) rather than just dump text on the player. If you have this many cities, you'll quickly run out of things to fill them with.

Thank you for your words, Anon!
I do have the advantage of using Essentials - I've nothing against decomps, and I do find the idea of being able to play in real hardware very cool, but honestly I'm not very good with programming (I'm a humanities nerd, numbers scare me). Either way, though, despite most of the programming work being done for me, I'll still have to code in all the Fakémon I'm making, and all of that kind of stuff. I don't really mind taking a lot of time, though - thankfully, there's no time limit for this, haha.
>>57299295
It's true that these towns are kinda superfluous. The differences between the tropical town and city are more concrete - the city is a lot more urban and modern, while the town is just a few wooden huts in the middle of the jungle. But the pink town and blue town are mostly identical to their city counterparts, save for their lack of gym. My idea was for them to be kinda like Fallarbor or Pacifidlog, where they serve none or minimal story relevance, but work as a sort-of 'stop gap' between routes.
Admittedly, coming up with NPC dialogue is my weak spot...
>>
>>57299410
>I do have the advantage of using Essentials - I've nothing against decomps
yeah I feel you, I kind of wish I had started in Essentials instead of decomp because my only real skill is mapping and now that I'm reaching the stage where I need to start programming I have to admit I'm pretty intimidated. but with pretty much a whole region mapped out in decomp already, it's probably too late to migrate so I just gotta power through I guess lol.
at least with Essentials you can just focus on the artistic side of it and make that really polished. still, try not to get in over your head or you have a higher risk of burnout, I do think other anon is right thag you could condense the map a little but at the end of the day it's your choice.

>Admittedly, coming up with NPC dialogue is my weak spot...
might be controversial but to be honest I was planning to use AI to help with this when I get there, at least for filler dialogue. I'll edit it, and important dialogue I'll write from scratch, but for the hundreds of throwaway lines you need like trainer dialogue. I know infinite fusion recently got a lot of shit for using AI generated dex entries, but that's a collaborative project. as a solo dev, I just see it as a tool to help me with the workload.
that said even if you go that route, what's helped me with making NPCs so far is giving them each a clear purpose in the world. every NPC I place, even filler ones, I think a little bit about why they live in this town, or why they're on this route, what relationship do they have with the world around them and other NPCs etc. I'm not like writing up full backstories, but I just keep it in the back of my mind and will use that to inform dialogue later on.
then when you go to write dialogue, you could have it reference those things, or drop a little bit of backstory for the city or region as a whole. or maybe drop hints about secrets or rare Pokemon.

>I was planning to use AI to help with this when I get there, at least for filler dialogue.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with this. The problem with AI is when it's used to replace artists. But who would the person who you're replacing with AI be here? In this case, it's just yourself. So I think it's fine here.
>>57299694
Thanks Anon! You can expect a 2030 release, probably later (no promises though :'^) ). As for the war, it's purely original - I just needed something for all the parts of the region to come together as a whole. A war against an outside force tends to do that.

Depends on the point in the game. Early game, a number of single stage mons at a level or two higher than the player is a sufficient challenge. Mid game, giving moves the player doesn't have (60-75 power, don't go overboard here) and a few fully evolved Pokemon. Late game, going all out with fully evolved mons, 120 base power attacks, huge level advantages. As the player gets stronger tools and access to more of the world / the Pokemon pool, it no longer matters that you remain fair or respectful. You don't need to tune the battles to Smogon level, you just need to throw an interesting advantage in the ring.
Keep in mind that stats scale in a manner where higher levels give diminishing returns. 1-2 levels in the early game is 10-20 in the late game just because of how fractions work.

I mean, yeah, but Pokémon only has so many ways you can give something an advantage unless you go fully original with it. Any big boss creature will essentially be a pile of stats, and then you can tweak whether you want it to be clowned on by toxic like UN, if you want to give it extra resistances, etc; but the more you limit ways for the opponent to break the fight the more you take away any strategy involved. Type advantage is kind of designed around letting you plow through fights and battles against a real opponent balance that by allowing switching and reads, but the less cheesable you try to make a CPU fight the more it becomes just "hit it hard until it dies". It's generally easier to make something interesting (or at least something that feels interesting) with a team fight (for example, an idea I've had for a gym is Sticky Web on the first mon, fakemon that triggers Court Change effect on death as the penultimate one, Contrary ace) but if it's a single boss it's much harder.

Even just using existing gimmicks, you can do a lot.
>Set terrains and weather at start
>Doubled enemy HP
>Enemy calls for backup
>Enemy has unique moves, potentially ones you don't have access to
>1vX battle from the start
>Multiple phases
>Inverse battle
>Stat boosts at the start of battle
>Frightening your Pokemon
>>
>>57305825
>enemy hits harder and you hit less hard
>you need to hit the enemy more
>enemy hits harder and you need to hit it more
>enemy hits harder
>enemy hits harder and you need to hit it more
>you need to hit the enemy more
>nothing changes
>enemy hits harder and you need to hit it more
>you need to hit the enemy more
Surely you see the problem, right? Pokémon's system is so simplistic and type advantage so basic in nature that any mechanic can be reduced to numbers and RNG, and any measure you take to make a boss stronger is equivalent to just giving it bigger numbers, and it's worse the harder you try to make it because the less haxable you make the challenge the more it's literally just bigger numbers.
>>
>>57306172
It's an RPG. Everything is a number.
>>

Depends on how much your DM sucks. Meanwhile, all you can do in Pokémon is hit and do damage.
>>
>>57306755
If your DM doesn't want to lead a game, sure. Everything in a game is just numbers, and finding a way to have bigger numbers than everything else.

So you're saying add active dodging and counter-attack mechanics like in Mario&Luigi?

>>57306593
I played D@D with some friends once and couldn't get the appeal... l maybe I just lack the part of me that find more imaginative stuff like that appealing.
>>
>>57306172
Nothing about what anon typed was simplistic. You need a strategy to counteract those and survive long enough to kill it. You can add something like item restrictions for specific boss fights or do something like "psychic-types only have their stats doubled"
>>
>>57306948
>or do something like "psychic-types only have their stats doubled"
This the kinda shit psychic stans talk needing ever since gen 2.
>>
>>57306948
Apart from general stat checks, single-player ROM hacks can test:
>Team comp
>Movesets
>Item distribution
>Micro stats like EVs/IVs/Natures
>Sequencing team members in a fight
>Switching opportunism
>Factoring for random elements
>Depending on the type of game, expending resources like a Focus Sash
>If it's a Nuzlocke-type hack, you can add risking party members
>More
And all of the general knowledge to synthesize these moving parts. The other guy is just baiting.

Does there exist a hack that lets you play through the Emerald battle frontier but with an expanded dex and/or featuring mechanics added later on like phys/spec split and fairy type?

Seems fine for a starter town. The boats should take you somewhere later im the game. Get rid of the rocks and fence off the water at the dock area so the player cannot Surf out of bounds. Rocks blocking the boats in looks dumb.
>>

I don't like fakemon if you are trying to make a Pokemon hack. But if the entire hack is fakemon, that works and can be fun when you don't know what Type things are and need to experiment mid-battle.

I know of David. He does not post often enough where I have seen anything annoying. The fact that you give him shit is more noticable than he is and derails the thread, (also assuming all posters asking about the game or in defense of it are David.) I'm not here 24/7, nor do I care enough to check the archives. (b4k is down btw) but it just seems like you're overly pissy about someone else's attempt to make a hack. Stop being obsessed over David. He isn't going to marry you, move on. People who obsess over namefags are often worse than the namefags themselves.

Options are good. They/them is retarded. I like that both fags and muslims are in for the sake of balance, but they don't need to be. I don't want main plot to look like real life but I am all for options in character creation for the player.
>>
>>57308458
>He does not post often enough where I have seen anything annoying
then you don't come here very often, so stfu about things you know nothing about. he has been pretty quiet for the last several threads but for years he derailed these generals. a few months ago there were entire rheg threads where he was just having complete meltdowns. and if you don't call him out when he posts, he'll get too comfortable and go back to spamming. we've only managed to get rid of him by riding his ass. he absolutely deserves every ounce of shit that he gets, don't simp for him. and if you don't know who he is, just be quiet

>Various actions of dubious morality and legality

No. I will make my own paradox hack where every known character is suddenly different because we're in an alternate universe. Say hi to Prof. Ghetsis.

The advent of the lost and forgotten superboss is here...

As a traditionalist, I like HMs more than I don't. I think removing HMs is lame, I like it better when it's your own Pokemon helping you navigate through the world. So I have some ideas on how I'd like to not only make HMs less annoying in my hack, but actually make them fun.

>Forgettable, like normal moves
>Strength can remove trees like Cut, allowing Cut to be erased
>HMs upgrade through the game
>Instead of Waterfall, Dive and Whirlpool having to be learned, Surfing Pokemon are able to traverse these obstacles once they meet badge requirements
>The same applies for Rock Smash, Headbutt and Rock Climb, they upgrade Strength

I think adding these HMs will open up new areas and opportunities in a more organic way than just having a ferry take you to a new map.

You're derailing the thread again
>>
>>57309518
Get it back on track. Post what you've been working on.
>>
>>57309375
In my game I have it to where you can use the HM if you have the correct badge, have the HM in your bag, and have a Pokemon in your party that can learn it. You don't actually have to teach it though.

I am looking for any style of game that lets me have beta pokemon on my team, not only from gold 97. I'd love the rabbit mudkip i posted in pic related for example
>>
>>57309375
At this point I won't even play a romhack unless HMs are handled like >>57309750
>>
>>57309375
As someone who is admittedly pretty bad at coding (especially in Ruby) my compromise is to include HMs, but make them all pretty good. For example, Strength is now a Normal-type Close Combat, making it a good end game option, and Rock Smash now guarantees a two stage defense stat drop.

This mostly came about when I realized "wait a minute, nobody has a problem with Surf, Waterfall and Fly because those moves are actually good".
