They play Pokémon for the cute creatures, but aren't interested in the battle system that much, so they struggle with slightly harder fights.The fact that she beat her first try on her second run seems to confirm that she was mostly too unexperienced the first time.

There's been a consistent influx of them since 2013. XY were the best selling games since GSC at the time and normies who dropped the series after the initial Pokemania died down came back because of Mega Zard, Toise n Mewtwo (I know a number of people who boxed the Kalos started just for muh Charmander), then 2016 happened, Go reignited Pokemania and MORE normies came in. Then 2019 happened and the first new HD generation started just before a pandemic that kept people home and sure enough? More normies. Then the first actual Open World games with non-linearity happened (even if there is still an ideal completion order) and sure enough? More normies. To say nothing of the face that SwSh and SV went on to become the second and third best selling pairs of games in the series. Like it or not Pokemon is normiecore and unless the Switch 2 manages to do something really, really wrong or Nintendo manage to market the system as catastrophically bad as they did the Wii U, you can expect to see this trend continue until the next wave of Pokemania in 2036.

Pokemon is weird because it's actually harder if you play the game "reasonably" (i.e. leveling up everything equally) instead of unga bunga smashing with your starterOf course a team of level 45s is going to have a harder time with a level 50 encounter than will a single level 70
