>FAQ>What is this?People are turning into Pokemon. Some are having the time of their lives, and some are struggling to survive. These are their stories.>How do I join?Just start posting.>What's the lore?People and animals (and at least one tree) are changing at random in their sleep, waking up still in the real world, but now as Pokemon, and nobody knows why (that includes you. Please don't try to explain it). Just enough transformations are occurring to notably change day-to-day life without collapsing civilization. This is not the apocalypse, even if it might feel like it to some characters in the moment. Some people are more in touch with their instincts than others, and some have lost more of their humanity than others. That's about it. Workin on the next green tonight at work. In the meantime, have this cool ass Wooper shredding on a rollerblade.

>>58582052Well Amaro is very polite. I like this lad. Don’t blame em for wanting a shiny in their nest, who wouldn’t want a shiny in their nest? The mental image of a Corviknight having to ride the bus is hilarious. Aren’t they freaking huge? Guess they could just ride on top. Great stuff as always Kartanon!
>The first thing he registered was the smell.>Antiseptic like bleach and stale air.>The steady beeping of a heart monitor came next, until it became increasingly loud.>Kurt surfaced from the heavy fog of unconsciousness to a world of dull, throbbing misery.>His left arm, though, was a special kind of awful.>A deep, resonant ache throbbed from shoulder to fingertips, one that wanted to agonizingly burn but was muted by what he assumed were painkillers.>He blinked sluggishly as the hospital room swam into focus.>It was dark, save for the glow of the monitor and the light from the hall that swam through the door’s tiny window.>To his left was a cot-side table, on top of which was a small ‘get well soon’ card depicting a dog in a cone of shame with the caption ‘At least you don’t need to wear one of these’.>It was cracked open so it could stand on its own, and Kurt could barely peek at the signature. From Emma. >Kurt snorted, failing to hold back a small grin. What a dork.>Shifting to the right, he saw a large, familiar black and blue form curled up, opting to sleep on the floor rather than the cheap visitor’s chair.>Larson looked rough. He was dotted with bald patches from now-treated burns, and had various cuts and nicks from both claw and bite wounds all sutured and wrapped.>Kurt tried to sit up, but the movement was a mistake.>A jolt of blinding magma shot up his arm, causing him to let out a reptilian hiss that cut the silence in the room.>Larson’s ears twitched, and his pair of glowing yellow and red eyes blinked open in the darkness.>Larson was up in an instant, claws softly clacking against the floor as he limped over to the side of Kurt’s cot.>The Luxray regarded him with exhausted and anxious eyes. Kurt released a breath he didn’t realize he was holding.>At least Larson was ok.
>>58582437>The Inteleon reached out with his good hand, burying his fingers into the thick mane on Larson’s neck.>Larson leaned into the touch, slowly lowering us head onto the cot’s mattress beside Kurt and letting out a rumbling purr.>It wasn’t a purely happy purr, more one of profound and bone-weary relief.>”I was worried you weren’t getting up anytime soon.” Larson eventually said.>Kurt let out a ghost of a laugh. “Can’t keep me down for long, you know that.”>”Kurt, you were unconscious for the better part of twenty-four hours. I was honestly starting to freak out.” >A cold lance of shock raced down his spine. “Ah… I’m sorry for making you worry.” he murmured.>”Stop that.”>”I’m sorry?”>Larson growled in frustration, causing Kurt to flinch his hand back, a sudden look of panic shooting across the Inteleon’s face.>The Luxray’s ears pinned back in shock, and he whined an apology.>Larson sighed as Kurt hesitantly resumed petting the big cat. “I really wish you’d stop blaming yourself for every little thing. You shouldn’t apologize for getting hurt! If anyone should, it’s me for letting that monster just slip me by like I was nothing.”>Kurt spoke up after a moment. ”I should have hit that shot. If I did, none of this would have happened. I’m just a god damn moron who just lets everything snowball until it all comes crashing down. Should have been better” >”Then we BOTH should have been better, Kurt. You don’t need to feel like you need to take responsibility for everything. We’re partners for a reason, we pick up each other’s slack.” the Luxray sternly replied.>Larson paused to mull over his words. “Look, don’t even think for a second that I don’t appreciate or take for granted everything you’ve done to help me through this whole Pokémon crap. I really, truly believe that you were the only reason I got through that hell.”
>>58582439>”But you have to stop sacrificing yourself to help me or other people, and feeling like you have to shoulder every burden. How do you think I feel watching you slowly kill yourself because you feel like other people deserve your care and attention more than yourself? I feel awful. Just a bitter ache pounding in my chest as I watch you fall deeper into this grave you’re digging out of your own selflessness, and I’m letting it happen…”>Kurt was frozen still, unsure how to respond. He struggled with his words, but Larson cut him off.>”I’m sure you have plenty of reasons and excuses as to why you do what you do. Just… I’m worried, and I’m tired of worrying about you when you don’t open up about what you’re going through. And now, with you this hurt… I can’t stay silent anymore. Just think about what I said, please?” >The rapid beeping of the heart rate monitor was the only sound in the room for a few minutes as Kurt mentally agonized over what to do. >A low whine built up from the Luxray before Kurt snapped back to reality. The beeping slowed.>“Sorr- I, I mean, yeah. I’ll think about it.” Kurt breathed.>Larson slowly nodded, relieved that he at least finally broke through to him.>Kurt looked over at the card again. “This from Em?”>Larson lifted his head to check the table. “Hm? Oh, she visited earlier. When she heard you got hurt she rushed over as soon as she could. She seemed pretty upset, refused to go home until you woke up. Managed to convince her to head back after a few hours, didn’t want her missing work and getting in trouble.”>”Maybe it’s a good thing she wasn’t here first thing after waking up, I don’t want her bopping me on the nose for being an idiot like she does to you.” Kurt chuckled.>”Oh ha ha, very funny,” Larson grumbled, letting out a soft huff, “I’ll let her know you woke up alright. Don’t want her freaking out longer than she has to.”
>>58582444>“Thanks, I appreciate it. Tell her to come visit next time she’s free, kinda doubt they’ll let me out anytime soon.”>Kurt fell back into silence as Larson attempted to send Emma a text using voice commands >He stared at the ceiling, before glancing down to his left arm, which was encased in a heavy reinforced cast.>He focused, mind screaming at the limb. Move something, anything, even a twitch of a finger.>Nothing. Not even the faintest of quivers. All he could feel was an angry, buzzing ache, and terrifyingly a hollow disconnect.>He took a deep breath as he swallowed down panic. He already knew it was bad, this just confirmed it.>He glanced back at Larson, the soft yellow glow of the Luxray’s eyes dim.>”Larson. Did they say how bad it is?” he quietly asked.>Larson looked away. He hated this.>”Just tell me so I’m not stuck assuming the absolute worst. Rip the bandaid off.”>Larson met his gaze. He opened his mouth a few times before finally speaking. “The doctor… said it was bad. Industrial machine accident bad. Bone fractured into so many shards that they couldn’t find all the pieces to fully put it back together. A human would’ve lost their arm for sure, but…”>Kurt’s stomach dropped. He struggled to maintain his expression. Larson pushed his head under Kurt’s good hand.>The Luxray rubbed one paw with the other. “He knows Pokémon are a hell of a lot tougher than we were as humans. There’ve been a few cases of ‘mons bouncing back from some heinous injuries over the past few months. He hopes you’ll be the same. He just doesn't know if you’ll get your full range of movement back enough to… well, he just… doesn’t know.”>Kurt’s breath hitched. Everything was lost to the ringing in his ears as he stared off into nothing.>How the hell would he be able to play his role with only one working arm? How would he be able to help anyone crippled like this?>Was he going to be a burden? A liability?
>>58582454>He felt Larson nudge him, and he glanced over at the worry etched on the feline’s face.>He couldn’t break. Wouldn’t break. Not now.>Kurt forced a thin, tight-lipped smile. He reached out to scratch Larson behind the ear. >”I see… well, I’ll adapt. Wouldn’t be the first time I’ve had to tackle a problem this big before,” he rasped, “It’s just a break. At least it wasn’t my dominant arm, that’d really suck. Just need to figure out how to snipe one handed.”>Larson looked unconvinced at the poor attempt of bravado, but Kurt kept that fragile mask locked.>Wanting to move on from the subject, Kurt cleared his throat. “So, did they ever figure out what that Arcanine’s deal was? Never seen someone move like that before.”>”Not sure. Some ‘Pokémon experts’ mentioned it could have been an alpha. Bigger, stronger, more aggressive than their usual counterparts. Would explain the glowing eyes. They’re being pretty tight lipped about it, I guess they don’t want that info slipping out to the public to prevent panicking.”>Kirt nodded. “Fair. After getting kicked around by one, I can see why people would freak out knowing they exist. God, my stupid reptile brain was on full meltdown mode that entire fight, never had to shove against it that hard before.” he grumbled, rubbing his eyes with his good hand.>Larson raised a brow. “What do you mean shove against it? I thought you were fully in tune with your instincts?”
>>58582460>Kurt sighed as he readjusted his position on the cot, wincing again when a lance of pain shot up his arm. “I lied. Seeing you struggle with yours when we first turned freaked me out. Didn’t want to be an animal, so I just acted like nothing changed. Felt like it might help ground you if I acted like everything was completely normal. I guess I gaslit myself into thinking it was all ok. Just another stupid blunder on my end considering you found your balance eventually.>”Maybe if I actually embraced them properly like you did, I wouldn’t be in this mess.” Kurt darkly mumbled.>Larson felt his frown grow. He couldn’t exactly refute that as a possibility. “Maybe… you know, I’ve been talking to Emma about how to open up to her Pokémon side. Seems like it’s been helping ease her worries about going feral, and she says her psychics have been getting easier too.>“Do you want to join us? Would make me feel better being able to help you for once,” Larson asked, a hopeful expression on his face.>Kurt took a breath and slowly nodded after a beat, a genuine smile replacing the fake. >“Yeah... Yeah, I’d like that.”https://rentry.co/larsonkurtAnother long one. Returning to regularly scheduled shenanigans next time! Pretty sure L&K has grown past S&W in word count by the point, poor Simon. I need to work on chapter 4 this weekend when I’m finally off.
>>58582052Great stuff, Anon! Love the interaction of those two. The reversed text really messes with my brain, though, especially since they talked so much right now. If you could include the un-reversed dialogue as well in some way, I'd be very happy. Maybe putting the normal speech in spoilers would be a nice middle ground to keep the general feeling intact? Also, I've been lurking since the very first thread with Lucarioanon. Just got my phoneposting working again after months... Cloudflare be damned.Really like what those threads have become. Props to all the writefags! Makes me want to join in the fun as well in the future, when my life isn't as hectic.
>>58582472I hope you join in anon! I'm sure you'll make something good when you can find the time to do so. It's terribly difficult to make something less enjoyable than my trite, and people seem to enjoy that shit.>>58582467Still can't find the words to comment on it fairly, but just know that I loved it. I can't wait to see the next chapter of both of your stories!
>>58582472Feel free to join in whenever you feel you have the time, it’s always nice seeing someone new throwing their hat in the ring! One-shots, short stories, anything is always appreciated.>>58582490No worries, I really appreciate it! Been kinda stressing with writing the last few greens but I’m glad I pushed through. Maybe after changing gears to Serpent and Wyrm will help break some of this writer’s block.
>>58582052That name seems fine to me. Honestly I'm more interested in finding out what bell the Corviknight's name has rung. The fact that Amaro's control kinda flips between human and instinct like Ben's does, but less commanded, is interesting. However, the fact that literally no one (who hasn't gone full feral anyway) other than Charlie has trouble talking is really making me think that I need to come up with a psychological reason why he can't talk properly, rather than just blaming his anatomy, because if a Corviknight can do it he damn well should be able to.>>58582437I know I said it before, but your taste in Inteleon fanart is amazing. Making the design less gangly really improves it... boi is a certified QT...>>58582467These revelations, incorporating everything we've been observing about Kurt, culminate in something that is another case of "hard to read in a good way", but also very satisfying. Maybe a BIT heavy-handed, but I'll honestly take that over what more typically happens where characters remain emotionally constipated in perpetuity. As terrible as what happened to him and Larson is, this opens the door for a potentially fascinating new chapter where Kurt not only learns to rely on others (rather than only being relied upon), but comes to understand his instincts as an additional source of that aid - maybe not truly an aspect of "himself" (his personality seems like it would preclude that. But if I'm wrong, that goes off in its own interesting directions), but another trusted confidant like Larson.I'll respond to the stuff from the end of last thread a little at a time. Got another huge financial kick in the guts today and not feeling up to much...>>58571102>strangely unsafe thatI think there's a word missing here. Some minor proof-reading on paragraph 4.Apple... brackets...?Well it sounds like Val got his car seized but this new, mysterious job gave him a much needed shot of self-esteem. Out of context it's intriguing stuff.
>>58582705>word missingYeah, it was village. I missed the word village and noticed immediately upon posting.I also worked on paragraph 4 after I posted but I can't remember what the fuck I changed.>Apple bracketsHe's referring to the Apple 2. If you've ever looked at an Apple 2, the way it's stylized is an Apple ][. (The Apple 3 has a similar but more boring stylization in the form of Apple ///. I would've gone ]|[ personally.)>car seizedI need to figure out where the fuck to put this massive block of information in the story. It'll probably have to become more exposition dumped at the start of the chapter. I didn't do that initially though because I felt like describing the jobs were already quite a bit of information with absolutely zero action as is. There's always room for rumination in a story, but there's also plenty of room for ruination if I'm not careful with how much I throw at people.Basically, Valentine drove for 3 days straight after the events of chapter 2, unable to sleep because of the constant thoughts hounding at him, and his ability to just "go somewhere else!" to try to escape those thoughts. He'd eventually get pulled over for reckless driving, and despite succeeding on a breathalyzer, the police office took his keys because he thought he was a danger on the road, which finally allowed Valentine to get some sleep. The officer came back later and returned those keys and gave him breakfast, but Valentine decided to stick around because he realized how unbelievably reckless it was to be driving in that state of mind. Plus, he was running out of money, something he hadn't even realized until he tried to buy himself some protection.
>>58582578A change is as good as a holiday as they say.>>58582748People don't like us doing this spoiler tag dance, so I'll just say real quick that actually writing the scene of him getting pulled over would be a good way to avoid it being too exposition dumpy. Maybe have the cop be surprisingly sympathetic, demonstrating to Val that not EVERYONE is out to get him, and keeping it mysterious wether or not that Nintales' "curse" is real. I like the implication that his mental state will have quite stark peaks and troughs.Man, between Copanon, Larson and Kurt, and now this, these threads have been surprisingly Back the Blue-pilled, huh? I guess the more optimistic skew on mundane realism we've had going on will do that...
>>58582785Eh, you're right. It doesn't even fucking matter, no one's reading it beyond the initial proof reading phase anyways.>suggestionI did consider that too. In fact, that is sort of how the first paragraph began before I scrapped it. The issue is that it's a time skip.At the start of the chapter. Not even after any action has taken place. You know how people say "this meeting could've been an email?" My brain screams at me that "this scene could've been an exposition dump."I think that might be an aversion I picked up from roleplaying. It's generally bad form to keep timeskipping, because it leaves the other people involved who are supposed to execute their part of the story confused. Perhaps I should just get over myself.>back the blue-pilledYeah, well, humans are human. Humans like caring about others when they can do so without interfering with their own business.
>>58582808I've seen other folks complimenting your stuff, so they clearly are reading it. But yeah, as an avid text-based roleplayer myself, I can definitely say that while roleplaying and regular narrative prose have a lot of similarities (and greentext kinda blurs the line between the two), there are some differences in approach that are needed. Given the choice, you absolutely want to be cutting exposition in favour of more timeskips and not the other way around. Putting a timeskip at the start of a chapter is actually okay (the audience can grasp that the driving proceeded apace until something interesting happened), but if you want to smooth the transition between the hope spot with the music and the scene described in my spoiler tag, you could paint a broad-strokes picture of Val's mental state deteriorating again over those three days and the desperation to get out of California reaching a fever pitch with the accompanying sleeplessness. Doesn't have to be long, just a paragraph or two to ease us through the timeskip. That'd also be introspection leading into action (even if that action is just a relatively mundane event that winds up acting as a metaphorical splash of cold water for Val).
>>58582490>>58582578Thanks for the encouragement. My workload should return to an acceptable level in mid January, so I guess keep the threads going until then. Should be plenty of time to get some inspiration as well.>>58582467If you keep this up, you'll beat Lucarioanon to the self-help group subplot! Can't wait to see what you do with it.
>>58582880>complimentsI must be missing it. To be fair, I do keep missing shit in this thread, so it wouldn't surprise me if I was actually missing it, even though I tend to keep an eye out for it.>timeskips over expositionsHrmm... I'll keep that in mind. As I said before, "perhaps I should just get over myself," I am the only author here after all. There's no one else to respond to me.Maybe I'll rewrite the opening portion as a sort of chapter 2.5, a shorter chapter with a focus on how his life was going between the two chapters. It'll provide the SoL bit that I was trying to see how to implement. The main problem with that is the thing that takes up the most time, programming, is not particularly exciting to read about when it DOES go well. I do not have the skill to Nichijou my ass through my equivalent of crossword puzzles /yet./Also I'm already mid chapter 3, maybe I should just stick with that :P
>>58582705Thanks, I always enjoy hearing your thoughts! Sorry to hear about the financial situation, I hope that things eventually smooth over for you.>Maybe a BIT heavy-handedYeah for sure. Was kinda struggling with this mini-arc overall so its definitely hammed up. I don't plan on actually completely crippling Kurt, seems way too extreme, and like was mentioned, Pokemon are tough cookies. They get blown up, lasered, punched and kicked with ludicrous forces, hit with crazy shit named "THE LIGHT THAT BURNS THE SKY" or "NIHIL LIGHT" and they almost always get back up later. Kurt's gonna get better, but is probably gonna have a permanent reminder of what happened. >>58582904>keep the threads going until thenI'll certainly try to keep up the writing. >Can't wait to see what you do with itThanks! Need to come up with some more ideas of fun stuff for the trio.>>58582956A little 2.5 chapter wouldn't hurt after finishing up ch 3 so you don't lose steam on it. Also would be good as practice if you want to try your hand at slice of life.>programming, is not particularly exciting to read aboutYeah if you get too in the weeds about it and start using developer jargon, you might lose people. It can remain interesting if you focus on Val and his thoughts as he's doing the coding job rather than the job itself. Regarding timeskips, yeah they're fine to manage pacing and skip over unimportant events that don't really have a narrative purpose, especially between chapters if a stretch of time has passed. I time skipped between ch 2 and 3 in S&W because Simon was just stuck on a rock the entire day, so nothing interesting really happened.
Damn, I sure missed a lot in two months. How much time has passed in this loosely defined canon? (A bit of a pointless question I know)
>>58583484Most time within storylines have only moved about a week at most.In terms of the bigger picture, most stories are supposed to be when the phenomenon is still relatively new and unknown, with a couple explicitly being long enough after that things have started to normalize.
>>58583554I think Copanon and Lucarioanon have moved a lot more than that, but most of the others? Yeah. >>58583484Every story's at different points, really, though Copanon and Lucarioanon have crossed over here and there. Keeping it all straight and on a single timeline is basically impossible at this point, though I'm at least keeping an eye out for any particularly blatant incompatibility when people are trying to cross their stories over.
>>58582705>because if a Corviknight can do it he damn well should be able to.To be fair, https://youtu.be/9I5Vm_YO_MY?si=lREnXN4TX0GnmA1fHe's just very talented
Tossing my hat into the ring. I like ghost types, so here's a prologue for my story. I don't have a name for it yethttps://rentry.org/cb24k1ti(Might be influenced a little bit by Faith the Unholy Trinity. I finished that for Halloween and really liked it)
>>58584381Very interesting premise, anon. I like the religion aspect of this. I can imagine all hell (heh) breaking loose in those institutions after the sudden transformations. Is that car accident in any way related to the accident from Copanons story?
>>58584636>spoiler Totally unaware of that, but if it actually made sense, it'd be cool
>>58584636Like what happens when we start getting a new Religion dedicated to Arceus? It obvious what ever power manifested this world must have called this being In to existence. How would the other Religions cope when there is definitive proof of such supernatural things, now that the world is being morphed into these creatures.
>>58584655If anything, it would probably reinforce some of their beliefs, though they'd probably start changing to adapt to reality. Dusknoirs could make great exorcists though
>>58584655Or worse given the strangeness of it and the fact we are dealing with monsters if the Eastern Religions like Shinto don't get Involved as most of.pokemon are Yokai inspired. It would be interesting to see them wonder if the Easten spirits haven't just exploded from Japan. Like some kind of Ritual gone haywire.
>>58583202>regarding timeskipsStarting the chapter with a timeskip is what I normally do, but mid-chapter timeskips are iffier for me. A few hours is something I don't have a major problem with, but when it becomes any longer than 6 hours, I feel like I haven't accomplished enough to earn the time skip, and worry that it'll mess with any (non-existent) co-author's plans.>chapter 2.5Alright, looks like I'm going to try to do that then. The only way slice of life will get any easier for me is if I practice it.>jobMm, maybe. Perhaps I could focus on a small quirk of him liking music while he works but also finding music incredibly distracting. Distracting enough to get him up and moving while his imagination goes wild, which keeps him from actually doing his job. I've been looking for a good spot to put that in.>>58584655Yahweh fell asleep and got transformed, and so our god is now a llama! At least the atheists can't claim that there's no proof of god anymore.>>58584710This is also a very interesting idea.
>>58584701Hard to fit the Abrahamic Faith's into what is happening, I am sure everything from The Pope to local Immams are trying to assure to their people that their faith is still real and all these monsters are just a sign of the 7th seal or something.
>>58584381Certainly not the helpful if tactless soul Copanon's Mismagius turned out to be. I like the implication that these people are so far on the fringe and so deep into their religion that they might not even know what a Pokemon is. I do have to say though that between the missed opportunity to learn more about Brother Halles by actually getting to read his journal entries alongside the protagonist and the relative brevity and lack of detail in the protagonist's actual encounter with the 'mon, it kinda feels like you started rushing things toward the end there.>>58584636>>58584655Religious upheaval is definitely an interesting consequence we haven't explored yet.
>>58584730Yes, I was finishing this before a class so it was definitely rushed. If I decide I want to continue this, I'll try to expand a little more
>>58584381MORTISVery interesting start here, keen to see where it might go with heavily religious individuals who have zero clue what Pokémon is. >>58584717>small quirk of him liking music while he works but also finding music incredibly distractingI like that idea! Focusing more on things like that will help make writing about the coding job more palatable for more people, with the plus side of getting more character development.
Seems like something I might consider doing
I've updated the church story (still no name). I get the feeling I'm going to end up revising the new part I added as well, but I'll keep it there for feedback for now. Would greatly appreciate it, I'm not an expert at this stuff and I'm trying to pay respect to the religious aspects without being too preachyhttps://rentry.org/cb24k1ti
>>58584723>Hard to fit the Abrahamic Faith's into what is happeningThe Bible, at the very least, fits just fine.Nonreligious people have a blind spot for how Christians would react to something like this, or alien life appearing. There wouldn't be any larger hiccup than what the rest of society was dealing with. It's not contradicting anything from the Bible. If anything, a lot of people would frame it as a miracle (or judgment, depending on the circumstances). It would embolden a lot of faiths because "oh wow, spirits sure seem to be real", "life after death seems to be confirmed", etc. Hell, if the evolution mechanic was called literally anything else, Christian boomers wouldn't have grumbled about it in the 90s/early 2000s.Not saying there isn't an argument for major religious disruption, but it's weak. >>58587054Thanks for putting the work in to write this. Fun read.It feels like an an ass-pull to make them some uber-small sect that hates the pokeymans though, gotta say. Like a time machine back to 1998 rather than modern times. It's immediately apparent, as you said, you're not an expert at this stuff. Not everyone will notice, but some people will. The vocabulary, Bible verses, and ways religious people talk are all a bit off.
>>58587327This guy has the right of it. The one hiccup that might come up is people reading Genesis 1:26:>And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.and not realizing that neither image nor likeness means "appearance" in the Hebrew. What the verse actually means is that man is made in a manner that is comparable to God, but what this means and how this is so is not directly elaborated on in scripture.
>>58587054And thus they discover the satanic children's media. I do wonder how they think they can take care of the mismagius. I'm reminded of this one shitty netflix ghost hunter series where a 'demonologist' wrapped a rosary around his fist like he was going to punch a fucking ghost, so that image immediately popped in my mind and I lol'd.
>>58582052Proud to say I didn't have to use a text-reverser on any of this>>58582467Brutal. Good section though, I liked it>>58584381>>58587054I don't have time to read this right now but it's hype to see a new story.
>>58587327Just saying this is more like suddenly Japan and China's Religions have living breathing avatars. At best the Abrahamics could somehow monkey wrench the Creation Trio as just being "The Living Will of God" and call Arceus just an Archangel.
>>58587450The Bible repeatedly notes that spirit beings of a hostile or contrary nature to God exist and tempt, mislead, or cause harm to mankind. Their taking avatars of other religions' deities would only make this observation more credible.
>>58587481Still going to be hard to discredit something like Arceus, unless in this case it's just incredibly powerful and not actually a creation deity.

>>58587629Discrediting what?
>>58587685Considering what we are seeing for our lore, Its obviously A.
I have a love-hate relationship with the whole "humans can become feral too" thing that you guys have, but it'd be "rude" not to address it. Plus, it makes for interesting internal dialogue. Is there hope for the humans who have lost their way? Perhaps there is a path to redemption for those that cannot remember. You could make a religion out of that ;)>>58587629The internal lore of Arceus is convoluted as shit, and there's a hefty evidence for the following:A) Arceus didn't create the universe and and rather seized control of itB) The Arceus we see isn't actually Arceus, but a fragmentC) Arceus gave up their powers in creating the legendariesD) Arceus gave up their powers in the PLATESE) Arceus can be beaten to death by Necrozma, making them a sort of greek deity rather than a traditional godF) Arceus created the universe after being born from nothingAnd many of these propositions aren't even compatible. Also, what about literally everything that came before? Someone could argue that Arceus didn't create the world still, because Pokemon weren't here prior.>>58587703THAT is an interesting proposition too.But what if Arceus didn't exist in this case?
>>58587711If it doesn't now.It will.Only a matter of time.
>>58587724Maybe I'll make it a joke that Valentine was a candidate for Arceus but the curse found that too boring so it instead aborted it and he's just left with the leftover white fur in his car and a clean shave :P
>>58587733This kinda stuff is probably why legendaries should be avoided for our stories.
>>58587740I don't think THAT'S the reason that the legendaries should be avoided, but I do agree that legendaries should be avoided. I wasn't seriously considering him being a candidate for Arceus, that's way too much, even for my deepest wish fulfillment to be wanted by all for being an interesting and good individual. The aborted transformation would make for a funny gag though, and plays into a very different idea, and that's just that Valentine is so fucking stubborn about changing his ways that he functionally has Shelgon levels of determination. It could easily manifest into him being too stubborn to transform, even when it's supposed to be his time :P
>>58587630This is such a fun idea, and feels exactly like the kind of absurd, needless extravagance Vegas so delights in. The place is on a downturn after COVID, apparently, so I can definitely see someone there jumping on a gimmick like this to try and revitalize things. Though you're clearly intending it as a one-shot green, there's a lot of potential here for slice of life and fun character stuff were you to decide to develop this further. Could work almost as a counterpoint to the introspective intellectualism of ProfD.>Thyphlosion for the ladiesKek>>58587695>I'd repeatI repeatedIt's worth noting that people's pets were also transforming, which would likely have popped up in his news feed at some point. Pretty sure Lucarioanon saw some stuff about that shortly after he saw the stuff about the Brionne. There's also the punk's Houndoom, though that came a little later.>I would hopeI hopedAs for ferals, to be completely fair, it seems like going full feral is pretty rare. It was Lucarioanon who originally came up with that idea, and even there you have Lucarioanon himself, Kat, Brionne (who was very young, which would make it harder to tell, but IIRC could still count), Hal and his son, the Machamp at the grocery store (who became Charlie in my story), a random lizard Pokemon who was cooking, the Polywhirl and Electabuzz at the substation, and probably some others I've forgotten about, who are still varying degrees of coherent, while only Mama Aggron and her Arons to my memory seem to have no signs of humanity left at all. Hal's ex-wife is a question mark since we never found out where she went or even what she turned into.
>>58579902This bit's really good. No tense snarls I noticed as Snivyanon said, and Val being like, "so anyway, I started blasting" and the Claydol being like, "get the fuck out, I'm piss!" is honestly pretty funny, even if it has put Val in a very bad position. The fact that it made a point of not him slightly suggests there IS some higher thought there to me, but the mystery is quite appealing, even if Val won't even be in the position to learn the Claydol's real story. And yeah, I do like Snivyanon's idea that Val gets too curious and the house explodes as a response to his stickybeaking better, rather than it just exploding completely at random. Not that there's anything strictly wrong with a dude waking up as a Claydol and overreacting at that precise moment, but it just seems a bit less contrived that way.Oh yeah, and I forgot to say when I respponded to 71102 that I still like Indeedee for the same reasons I proposed it in the first palce. Not as huge on Absol because I feel like having two of the same 'mon with significant roles in the story isn't really needed (although granted it could be amusing if Absols are attracted to him because of the aura of abject disaster constantly boiling off him. The rest are fine - probably the Growlithe and the Espurr have the most storytelling potential.
For the record, Valentine is stubborn, but I don't think I'd actually write him doing as something as weird as avoiding a transformation because he's scared of losing himself, or him using a Pokemon move because he's trippin' balls and thinks he's ACTUALLY a Pokemon. It's just funny to imagine those scenarios.>>58587784>as for feralsAnd I'm saying it would be wrong NOT to include it.Besides, we live in a world of 8 billion and the internet to quickly proliferate news. Even if only .4% of people globally become totally feral(assuming 20% transformation rate and 2% of that becomes feral,) that's still 32 million people that lose themselves. That would become VERY fucking obvious in the news cycle. Thanks for the corrections and I'm sorry I'm like this.
>>58587822Nothing wrong with it popping up in the news cycle - it already did the first time Lucarioanon fought Mama Aggron. Was just pointing out that animals transforming should probably have popped up too, and also that if we are indeed gonna say that full feral is rare, you don't have to have Val really encounter them if you don't want to. Referencing the fact that it happens is fair though. Also, I think the transformation rate is going to be way lower than 20%. It also doesn't happen all at once, but gradually over time, so that's worth keeping in mind. In an early thread I did some napkin math and came up with 10% over the first 14 years since the phenomenon begins assuming a linear rate of 1 in 2,272 every three weeks, which itself was based on ~22 people having transformed during that time in Lucarioanon's town (11 confirmed and then doubled to account for missing person's cases). At this point, if we assume that only Lucarioanon, Copanon, and Macho take place in the same town (which I semi-arbitrarily pegged at a population of 50,000. Writers please do let me know if you DO intend for any of your stories to also be set in Lucarioanon's town, incidentally), the confirmed count as of however long has now passed since Lucarioanon transformed is 16, being Lucarioanon, Kat, Aggron's family, Hal's family, Charlie, cooking lizard, the Electabuzz and Polywhirl at the substation, Derek, and probably the Trevenant, Mismagius, and Emboar that Copanon is dealing with (although any of them could be from out of town. Fedorark definitely is so she doesn't count, and IIRC Copanon had to drive to another town to deal with the Salazzle, whose name continues to escape me, so she doesn't count either). Arbitrary doubling that to 32 to account for missing persons and presuming the Emolga at the substation to be a transformed animal, that gives us 0.064%, or about 1 in 1,563.
Busy day today, think this'll be the first day I don't do any proper update, let me catch up a bit...>>58582467Man this stung to read but Pokemon're strong bastards, I'm sure he'll recover. Makes me wonder if the presence of Pokemon will accelerate the development of real life Pokemon Centers for their care... Very happy for Kurt to have such good friends at least.>>58582081Thank you, thank you! Amaro's just kind of a swell fellow who's not the best at fighting off the Corviknight instincts, he doesn't mean any harm really.>>58582472>If you could include the un-reversed dialogue as well in some way, I'd be very happy. Maybe putting the normal speech in spoilersAh yeah, I will say that I generally do in fact do that but it somewhat depends on the concept of each story beat, normally the in-universe reason is him using his phone to unreverse it, I might consider the spoiler thing but it bloats the character count faster than I'd like...>Makes me want to join in the fun as well in the futurHop right on! Best you can do is just shove your hesitation to the side and do it!>>58584381And if this is your work, very damn solid start! I dig it from the premise alone, definitely feel the FAITH inspiration. Hope we'll get someone who can match Garcia's presence in that case, really liked reading it!>>58583202>I'll certainly try to keep up the writing.Make that 2 of us!>>58582705"Cruz" is currently the "best candidate so far" name, but in general I don't want to commit to him having a proper name (at least not yet), it just kinda felt necessary for that scene since the 2 not introducing themselves felt wrong...Like I said in a hurry earlier, my excuse for Amaro talking understandably is that crows irl are already smart fuckers and can do it, so it'd likely be even easier for a former human, just sounds a bit odd (think he's talking normally but it sounds like he's talking from inside an oil drum).
Interesting conversation with the religious angle, admittedly I did think for Kartanon to have to grapple with faith at some point but that's for way down the line. Would definitely cause some interesting discourse...>>58587348>didn't have to use a text-reverser on any of thisIt is a bit inaccessible but I do feel like having to figure it out is probably half the fun of it.>>58587630You lose 100% of bets you don't make after all. Very fun read, I dig the concept too! It's interesting thinking about how people'd use the situation for entertainment purposes, given that's what Pokemon are made for in a rather meta way. Hope dealing's not too challenging with beans rather than fingers...Ah yeah, a little treat for ya >>58584381 , that "Faith inspiration" part got the idea in my mind and I had to do at least this.
>>58587630Meowscarada are natural magicians, and magicians are good with cards. Could be fun to learn some tricks, since it's already more of a gimmick casino than a serious gambling establishment.
>>58587879Okay, let's just assume for a moment that only 0.2% of the world population is transformed within the first 3 weeks, and that it's evenly distributed. That gives us 695,800 transformee humans within the United States. Now, let's imagine that of that, only 0.001% of them go fully feral. That's 6 cases of feral transformees in the United States within the first three weeks.Do you know how many cases of Ebola there were in the United States during 2014?There were 4 cases of Ebola, not including the 7 that were brought back from other countries.Despite how few got Ebola, this fact dominated the national news for months.Adding to the problem, the moment someone with any authority catches a whiff of this even being a possibility, every missing persons case becomes immediately suspect. There are around 93,000 hot missing person cases in the United States at this very moment. That is 13.3% of the originally provided 695,800 cases I randomly pulled out of my ass.Having 11% of potential transformation cases in the US(actual cases+including missing persons) would send a crippling shockwave of panic that would drown out literally any other news.Is it any wonder that Valentine failed to catch any news of confirmed animal transformations with this information in mind?
>>58587965Fair enough I guess.
>>58588008Heh, nice. 8008. The best Intel 8-bit.Anyways, sorry for going as "harsh" as I did. Frankly, I am beginning to think I don't mesh well here.I'm glad you brought up the table math, even though I know that I will not think things through and completely fuck it up. If it makes you feel any better, my table math doesn't even work with how I've described things. There's very clearly not an even distribution within my own stories, even though it will slowly even out later. Also, for what it's worth, Valentine already has SEEN animals transformed. The Muk and Skarmory have oddly placid behaviors precisely because they're NOT humans exploring what they can do. But did you actually THINK that when I initially described them? Most likely, no!I'm envisioning it to be the same sort of effect. It's really hard to tell who is an animal because not only are the humans vying for attention, but the animals transformees just kind of exist for the moment, and unlike humans who have the concept of a permanent home, they could be literally anywhere, making them even harder to spot initially.
>>58587927> And if this is your workNTA on that story, I'm afraid. Just a lucky coincidence. Currently working ~100 hour work weeks, if not more (getting a degree sucks sometimes). I'll join probably early next year, when my workload returns to normal and my creativity is more than "what do I name this chapter in my studies?" > About the reversed textI get the reason for it and I like it, honestly. Deciphering it makes for a fun read, but it stops the flow when you have to do it every other sentence. You, as the author, probably don't have this issue, because you know what it says. The char limit does suck for putting it in spoiler tags... Perhaps you could put them in the rentry only?
I glossed over the feral talk. I'll just say that its really just up to how you want to implement it, if at all. Maybe in the areas your story takes place, the characters never encounter fully feral human-mons. Canon's loose for a reason, so if there's something you don't gel with, you don't HAVE to include it (and if you feel like you do, maybe just have some character reference it as a rumor or something, idk).>>58587630Oh this is so cute, I love this idea! I'll echo what other anons have said in that this would be fun to explore more. >>58587927Thanks! I actually did ponder in an earlier thread how long it would take for an 'official' pokemon center to become a thing. Also healing moves now existing could lead to some interesting developments in the medical field.
If anything I wonder how long it'd take for irl gimmick facilities to start opening up. Surely there's unlicensed Pokemon Gyms cropping up, but what about unofficial Contest Halls, or Pokeathlon Stadiums?
>>58581076>>58581503>so here I am, growin wooper all the time>lookin wooper all the time>but feelin human in my mind
>>58588305Optimistically? Probably a couple months at most, with healthcare facilities following shortly behind within the year. It's not like contests or even championships would be particularly hard to put together, and it gives a healthy outlet for Pokemon. Healthcare's a little more tricky, but Heal Pulse's a powerful move, and can mitigate a LOT of equipment requirements. I could easily forsee a world quickly adopting anything that could make a doctor's life easier.Pessimistically? Years. Backyard events would happen almost immediately, but the government would find many, MANY ways to bludgeon the progression of these events into full blown organizations, probably due to concerns of children transformees fighting and the ethics of dog fighting or whatever.Healthcare would be decades behind, hampered harshly by unions advocating for any alternatives to be clamped down upon with endless bundles of beaucracy, just like they did for the medical services of mutual aid societies in the early 20th century. >>58588284>canon's loose for a reasonI can't help but feel like I should adhere to it as strictly as possible, even when I'm already very clearly mucking it up with my own presence.
>>58588455A minor disagreement over minutiae hardly constitutes you mucking things up. The needless self-flagellation, while quite understandable considering Val's story is partially autobiographical, is always going to be the far more aggravating thing to read. While I do my best to wrangle all these disparate stories into having a semblance of mutual compatibility, that's only because we all like to liberally reference each other's works (and it's fun to imagine so many disparate tales all taking place in the same shared universe). Ultimately, though, if you wanna say the media hasn't noticed that animals are transforming and I wanna say that they would have, then go ahead. I didn't see much point in arguing about whose napkin math is more napkiny, because ultimately both our sets of figures are completely arbitrary. Were we to have continued I would've just been shitting up the thread (more), so I didn't bother.Hell, nobody ever even told you that you couldn't do your more fantastical ideas for Val's story, either. They would've reduced his story's compatibility with the others, sure, and I proposed alternatives that may've maintained compatibility better for if you wanted to use them, but ultimately if you wanted to do it, you could've and probably should've. Still could, really. I just wanted to emphasize for the superhero-type stuff with the world conquering psychic types that if you're gonna go big, you need to go all the way, or else it won't land right and not have the impact you want. With regards the time travel stuff, my warning against shoving in legendaries for their own sake because it cheapens them was just general, broadly applicable advice that applies to a wide range of possible Pokemon stories. And it's still just my opinion - I can merely relate how the abundance of legendaries in projects like Unbound and Insurgence felt off to me.I'm just one guy who can't even manage to update his own story, man. Nothing I say should be taken as gospel.
I just got to the part where Lucario-Anon has the argument with his parents. I want to punch them in their shitty guilt-trippng self-centered boomer-ass faces.
>>58588533>needless self-flagellationAh, crap. I didn't mean for that to come off as self-flagellation, or anything like that frankly. It's supposed be a more literal statement of "I'm contributing, which is changing the canon, and therefore I'm being hypocritical for wanting to adhere to it like dogma."I'd delete it and rewrite it if I could but I can't now.>nobody saidI said I shouldn't. I want to try to be grounded. Sure I'm probably going to throw it away in the final act, but I WANT practice, to at least be able to write a good chapter. Why do you I considered writing chapter 2.5?I HATE being a one trick pony who keeps the stakes rising just to have it topple over and never deliver it properly. I want to be able to have the soft moments that make the stakes actually hit home, and I want to be able to confidently raise the stakes without immediately knocking it over with imbalance.>nothing I say should be taken as gospelI don't take it as gospel. I take it as a friend's word, or at least close to a friend's word that I can get here. You want me to improve, I want to improve, and I also hope to one day be able to deliver that same quality of advice to you when I stop feeling so mopey about my ability to criticize things.(I'd also like to be able to post something without immediately spotting a mistake and wanting to revise it and doing a THIRD time in a row, but I'm a bit far from that goal right now :P)I'm going to bed, I am obvious too tired. I was only up because my friend was having a crisis and needs to leave his house soon anyways.
>>58588626Well ultimately, whether I try to massage things into consistency or not, most of the ideas people contribute are still going be done so with very little in the way of vetting, consultation, or editing, so the canon is by necessity always going to be nebulous. So since it's always in flux anyway, I wouldn't fret over how your story is changing it.>I said I shouldn't.Well as long as you have good reasons for ultimately rejecting those ideas (and, in fairness, it sounds like you do), that's fair enough. I just wouldn't want to be the one to stifle your creativity, inadvertently or otherwise.Frankly? I'm looking forward to the day when you can criticize my work.
>>58587879>the Salazzle, whose name continues to escape me, so she doesn't count eitherI really need to give the her a name at this point. Lisa maybe. Also it wasn't out of town. The inner city traffic congestion got so bad due to snorlaxes that it was faster to get onto the highway on one end of the town and get off on the other than drive through the town itself.
>>58588992Oh she actually doesn't have a name still - no wonder, then. And fair enough, so unless I'm missing anybody or any of the other stories are also set in the same town that's actually 17 then.
I debated on if I was gonna write this or not, But I am. Because some of you may or may not have family like this. 'There Is No Hate Like Christian Love.' >I really should have taken my key back from my mom. Really. Really Should Have.>I had also forgotten. You know, on account of turning into a five foot tall magical fox.>I was hardly surprised when my apartment door swung open on it's own. >Ya'll didn't have the decency to shut the damn thing? A/C is expensive as hell.>I purposefully ignored the six people sitting in my living room.>And the two priests looks of horror at watching me, cigar between my lips, trot through my living room through them all, to my kitchen where I put my groceries away.>One trip, bitches. These bags float. >I stood in the kitchen as I mentally directed the bags to empty themselves into the fridge, freezer, dishwasher and cabinets.>My phone floated off the table where I had left it, nearly smacking my sister in the face. Nix that, firmly smacking her in the face with a loud yelp.>I kept staring at the sink, grinning so they couldn't see, as I paid my bills, tapped out the ashes of my cigar and then slowly turned.>"Get. Out.">Of course, that just opens the flood gates, My sister just there to stir shit, as usual. But My aunt, and her cult being in my house is whats causing the sparks along my fur to start.>'Phox, honeys, we're worried about.... your possession. It's unholy, the priests here had extensive knowledge on excorcis-'>I cut that off by snapping a finger and sparking a miniature ball of fire to pop into being, "I cut off contact with you wastes of space about the time you started screaming hate and vitriol at me for burning your protest signs before you could protest a fucking make a wish patients cancer surgery and screaming god hates them because they're gay. Now. Get. The FUCK OUT.">I didn't even let them finish as I slammed my door open and snarled.>Of course, that's also how I ended up pinned by both priests.
>>58587953I absolutely love this image. I hope you don't mind, but I set this as the browser icon for the story on rentry
>>58589336>Because some of you may or may not have family like this. 'There Is No Hate Like Christian Love.'My condolences, damn. I guess I'll consider myself lucky to have an incredibly nice and caring Catholic family, although I have very much heard about how... odd some Christian families can get up there in the North. Hope things won't be too bad for Vetphox with that situation going forward.

They really do cry out in pain as they strike you, don't they? What did these idiots even think they were gonna do - exorcise every single transformee in the entire tri-state area one-by-one? And, what, they thought VetPhox would just magically transform back or something? Normally I'd call that a plot hole, but you are literally speaking from personal experience here that people like this really do exist and really do plumb depths of retardation this deep. I'd be lying if I said it doesn't put 7054's story in a bit of a new light.Poor VetPhox. She's too isolated and vulnerable like this. The potential for character growth and building up something healthier, like what Snivyanon recently set up for Larson and Kurt, definitely exists, but only if she's able to find some like-minded individuals and break away from constantly having to have her toxic family elbow-deep in her business. >I could hear their thoughts, because I used to think like them. This is a great little swerve, by the way. >>58589516Mannnn that’s rough. Don’t have any family like this, luckily, but grew up in a cul-de-sac with some neighbors that 100% did. Phox just catch a single break from family, god damn. Even if her aunt was the big issue, the fact her sister’s there stirring the pot AGAIN is so shitty. Hopefully there wont be any trouble for the way Phox dealt with the priests considering they started a physical altercation, but getting in touch with a lawyer was a good call because you just know that group is gonna spin up a story and demonize Phox like she’s some rabid animal. Which she knows they’re gonna do considering the line about how she used to think like them.

My SO gave me an ultimatum: Clean the fuck up and seek help, or she'd leave. I picked her and our kiddo over all that.
I don't know how to interpret or rightly respond to this sudden Religion Angst angle, but I sure know that I don't like it.
>>58591065Worry less about it in the real world concept and just think about it in this fictional setting. They're two separate topics
>>58591074They're never separate topics when it comes to this stuff: it's a microcosm that draws out people with similar views and have a chip on their shoulder and a lot to say about things that they don't like, and pushing back only intensifies that in a feedback loop of anger.
>>58591065>>58591083This anon is correct. Religion can be tastefully implemented into stories, but you have to be a decent author with respect for the subject.Having priests or churchgoers act pants on head retarded for the sake of drama is eye-rolling and reeks of r/atheism. Same energy as "Politician I hate gets killed by exploding voltorb haha".
>>58591324I wish my post was pure satire. I really wish I do. But some of them are pants on head retarded. It's why I don't speak to some of my family, because I, 100%, used to think and act exactly like them. I have concerns about that watercooler however. Is the vaporeon made of water? Or is the water made of vaporeon?
>>58591441This is why I don't know how to address this particular problem and a big part of why I don't like it: it's not false, and is in fact very real for some folks out there. However, it is not a universal experience and a universal problem, and exists in a specific microcosm of religious experience that all falls under the comprehensive umbrella of Christianity as a whole. In most respects Christianity is neither incompatible with nor a call to action against people who somehow became a different species. In fact, there wouldn't even be a problem with your husband or wife becoming a Pokemon that can talk to you, because marrying and giving to marriage is okay as long as it's male and female and everyone's a Speaker: the concept of humans doesn't exist in Levitical law.

I've been thinking about future chapter plans. I think I want to open chapter 4 with a nightmare, though I don't know if I CAN write a good nightmare yet. I sorta wrote some of it already, but I'm not satisfied by it. https://files.catbox.moe/h1g33q.txt
>>58589336>>58589516>>58591441People keep dancing around it, so I'll say it: It's not well written.Had to read it three times to get a grasp of what's going on. 6 other people are in the room, and I have no idea who about half of them are. I'm still not sure what happened at the end. I'm sure it makes sense in your head, but as I reader I am confused. The big issue is believable antagonists. What you've written so far has the family as antagonists. That made sense. I expect head-butting there. But these two priests came from nowhere and act completely opposite of how a priest actually would. And there's two of them, making it doubly weird. They don't act like real people. They act like clowns. And that's not an exaggeration, I do mean they act like literal clowns spraying holy seltzer water instead of actual priests.>Casually in Phox's house (mmmkay...)>Don't speak a word when they absolutely would try to figure out what's going on.>'Protesting a make a wish patient's cancer surgery because lol gay' is clownishly evil and a cheap way to make readers side with Phox.>Immediately escalate to violence and assault the Phox. In what world do not one, but two priests, immediately resort to fighting, wrestling, and pinning?>'Exorcism' is a Hollywood 'holy water lala Latin dance'You got an axe to grind with religion? Fine, whatever. But there needs to be setup in a story. Villains need to be intelligent and act reasonable. Nothing here is reasonable, and "well, they ARE that crazy" comes off as an excuse to grind the axe. It's just not as good as your other writing.

The obvious one is that you're actually just one, and need to find the other one. Maybe you'd be soul mates! There's two options that fall under the same general idea: Your brain is now split in two. Either you have a singular consciousness, or you have two separate consciousness. Finally, there's the option of you being separate entities where one is a clone. Which one? Who knows.

Like another anon said, either you have a split consciousness between the two and can control both bodies, have a copy of your consciousness in the other body, or the other body is an entirely new consciousness and personality. There's lots of weird ways you can go about it.
>>58592818People shitting up the thread because they can. Business as usual
>>58592818>What happenedhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSl8fqagY1A>ZweliousZwelious is interesting in the opposite direction, and has a lot of other discussion to be had. There are two groups of multi-mind Pokemon. You have the "multi-instance" Pokemon, which includes Klink, Combee (technically), Dugtrio, Magneton, etc. Then you have "single-instance" Pokemon, like Exeggutor, Metang, Spiritomb, Cherubi, etc.Zwelious shares a special sub-group that only Cherubi is in, which is to have a second mind that it /loses/ upon evolution. It's also the only single-instance Pokemon to gain a mind after evolution WITHOUT merging with someone else, which is pretty neat.
>>58592857I've always felt that losing a mind is a little too grim, and like the idea that Deino is a single lobed brain, Zweilous adds a second head with a single lobed brain of its own, and Hydreigon takes those two lobes and connects them like our own minds, with the dominant half decided during the Zweilous stage.
>>58592873I mean, it wouldn't be the first time that Pokemon's delved into grim subjects. Spiritomb is literally a living prison for souls who were not granted reincarnation or whatever the fuck should meet them after death for their crimes. But you're probably right that Hydreigon probably just merges the two brains, given its noted intelligence. It still technically counts as a loss of an independent mind though.(The same cannot be said about Cherrim, because the other cherry Cherubi has is supposed to be an energy store that happens to just develop its own personality when times aren't harsh.)

Spinny Spinny, he he he. I watched as many various tiny rodents and hamsters get spun around their wheels, I used to watch such a scene alot in my youth seeing the little Ham Ham's run around and a round. This time I was spinning the wheels my self with my fabulous Abra Brain. The poor little guys were stuck in my influence. I could feel confusion, panic, and even a little feeling of fun.Must be what it's like to be on a Gravitron ride. I never had the gumption to ride those kinda rides. But now I am the ride. More importantly, I can clearly see that my pyschic influence works on living tissue.Which only adds more questions as to why it didn't work with that meowth.I let the influence stop, and the wheels stopped spinning. The little Rodents immediately got out of their wheels and started furiously grooming, their confusion still strong but quickly fading.I floated about 30 feet away in another alley. In view of a New Tail pet store, here no one can see me.I am not sure if anyone can feel my presence or not. I did wonder if my psychic field didn't make brains do weird things, like getting staticy or induced vertigo it seemed like it was less mind control and more like I could manipulate matter itself. This time, I focused on the puppy, it's mind filled with curiosity, hope, and a desire to play. I feel around it's soft muscles its delicate baby fur, and lift. The puppy felt confused as it was lifted up by its forelegs and was forced to hop on its back legs. It was uncomfortable, and I felt slimy and stopped. The puppy fell over unsure as to what just happened. And as penance, I lifted a colorful ball from the stacked cage of toys and gave it to the puppy, who's mind flared immediately into happiness and play. That made me feel much better. The puppy’s tail waged like a metronome, chasing the colorful ball I floated over. Play! Happy! its mind sings, washing away my slimy guilt.Good Girl, I mentally reward myself.
>>58593044I float back, 30 feet in the alley’s shadow. New Tail’s inviting veranda still in view. My Abra Brain’s buzzing—hamsters spun, puppy lifted, Meowth’s still a mystery. Log it: Test 6: Living tissue manipulation. Success Meowth anomaly: immune? And satisfied with what happened I focus on home, the dark but safe room filled with dirty clothes and trash, my computer station.Safe... I want safety. In that blinding flash of quantum Leaping I am no longer in the alley my sense of smell immediately assaulted by the state of uncleanllyness I had grown accustomed to, too.Bleh... Girl have you really been living this way? I get to work immediately finding the trash bags in the sink I float them to me and open them.Kinda embarrassed at the level of dust on this on unopened box.But shaking that from my mind I get to work. I use telekinesis to essentially blow a trash bag open like a fan while I float in a bizarre filth caravan various cans boxes and discarded wrappers, and bags, one by one they go into the scented bag. In another I place the dirty clothes. I don't really need them anymore and I doubt even thrift stores want them. One by one the articles of soiled clothing, and the greasy discarded tins and bags of food dissappeared into the black floral scented bags. And with that I look around, and suddenly my hovel suddenly became... empty looking. No clothes, mess, other then a dusty floor.I turn my power off as I tie the bags shut. The smell, my old clothes, gone. Like a reminder that my old self was being wiped away.
>>58593089Me... I turn my power on again, look at my hanging pink bag on my chair, and pull out my Drivers license from the pouch. I hover it to me, a familiar face looked back, slim face thin unassuming lips, small nose, dark circles under dark blue eyes, dirty honey colored hair that looked ratty and quickly combed into a non-offensive side part the face was sullen a tiny smile just the formality of the picture. A truly depressive looking woman of 20.I remembered the fight I had to finally get my drivers license even though I still don't own a car.Oh but what if you need to drive a friend to the hospital or if your brother needs a ride, what if you get a car and just want to go somewhere. My memories, yet when I think about it I was on autopilot most of the time when around people, even family. All i wanted to do was just stay home and do my coding job, watch anime, and play the latest Souls clone.I looked at my name, Linnea Holman.A name that has no meaning anymore given my new form, given my new face.A picture of for all intents and purposes, a dead woman. This ghost of a person, now a fantastic creature, yet a sense of biting nostalgia for seeing who I was lingered.Age 23 or is it 0 now? and already having a mid-life crisis of the most absurd. And with one last look at this piece of history, I let the card fall to my Abra fingers, holding it. I walk over holding Her, open my drawer of discarded paper and other items I never use, put the card inside, and close the drawer. In an emotional state, focus on the bags of discarded me, sense the location, and remote teleport the bags away in a flash of energy. If wasn't careful I probably would have Idunoo crushed the bags into a compressed cube or something. Not good to sit and dwell on things like this, not with psychic powers that could probably blow the whole apartment into dust.Bye, Linnea, I whisper to the void of just my own thoughts.I’ll take it from here. But first, God did I need a nap.

As per usual, updated the Rentry with the latest stuff (always make sure to update it as I'm writing out the greentexts).https://rentry.co/kartanimatorIn the end I decided to take >>58582472 's suggestion of spoiler tagging the normal speech for the Rentry specifically, while leaving the greentexts "raw". I think it helps preserve the intent well enough while making it an easier read for people with skill issues who'd rather not decipher convoluted backwards texts. I figured it'd be fine at first in bursts, but it definitely taxes readability more when Kartanon converses with people without using his phone to reverse his talk. Something to keep in mind for the future... He'll probably have to learn a more natural way around it later down the line.
>>58593737I said it last time and I'll reiterate, Amaro is a good lad. Hopefully he doesn't boot up Scarlet and Violet and stumble on the Tinkaton entries, that'd give him something to stress about lol. The spoilered normal speech in the rentry is a good call, I do like trying to read Kartanon's dialogue backwards, but like was mentioned it does get difficult when they're talking a lot, so that's a good middle ground I feel!
Man, this dialogue feels way more natural than mine. Good job Kartanon!
>>58593268>Is my writing style that obvious?Frankly I had no idea that was you. I was just speaking in terms of the slow, measured caution and deep thought of ProfD's life vs the constant sound, energy, and movement of Vegas - everything coming at you fast, forcing you to live in the moment and feel things out rather than ponder. ProfD thinks about what it means to be a Pokemon, whereas these guys will have to feel it - a nice contrast. At least I figure it has that potential, at any rate.As for what 'mons to use, Gardevoir is the far and away the most normie smash in Pokemon, so I think a Gardevoir and Gallade pair could work really well as the big, flashy centerpiece, with even nicer clothes than everybody else and big personalities (put on or not). I dunno if casinos have MCs, necessarily, but that's the kind of role I'm picturing in my head. For the women's section, the obvious masculine eye candy Pokemon (maybe throw in an Incineroar as well?) are a fine start, but female sexual attraction is also centered around provision and protection and not just the physical attractiveness indicative of good genetics. An Alolan Meowth or Kantonian Persian (since those are the two classiest iterations of the species) occasionally showering the tables with Pay Day (even if the coins are actually worthless because they're Pokemon world currency and not even real gold, iffin' you wanna decapitate the whole "Pay Day destroys the economy with hyper-inflation" problem before it can even arise) could help the guests to feel like they're truly dwelling in opulence, and though I've already suggested this 'mon to Val's writer, an Indeedee who can flawlessly cater to even the most absurd whims will tickle the fancy of rich Karens the world over, with the potential for juicy hurt/comfort fuel if said Indeedee ever winds up having a particularly tough day.
>>58593907>Meowth used PAYDAY!>Meowth throws... something, mostly paper.>It's a mixture of papiermark, pengos, drachmas, Zimbabwe dollars, and dinar>Cool collectibles, but literally none of these currencies were legal tender anymore.>There were also some chocolate coins in there that looked very convincing at first.>At least you gave the opponent a papercut...
>>58593907Regarding Meows' gender, I'd kinda want at least some of the feminine Pokemon in the men's section to be boys and some of the masculine Pokemon in the women's section to be girls, purely for the amusing sexual confusion angle, but up to you if you wanted to extend that to Meows themselves (who from the sound of it is working the men's section).>>58593098Holy carp, it's good to have you back, Digigirl!Coding job, huh? Valentine crossover when? Now, dread's hardly an invalid reaction to this turn of events, but I think there IS another viable interpretation here. I think it's possible (not certain, but possible - we'll see what happens with AbraGirl, who I'm just gonna keep calling that because she's rejected her human name, going forward) that, in a weird way, this approach may actually prove healthier in the long run that the approach that, for example, Kurt has taken. AbraGirl is embracing her new self more deeply than any of our other protagonists have to be sure, but as we see with the puppy, they aren't allowing their instinctual id to run rampant, and are paying careful heed to the possible consequences of their decisions (she notes what she could do to the apartment if she isn't careful, a far cry from Val's Claydol). The human identity may have been shed, but the human moral center and principles remain, which are arguably more important to one's humanity than the more superficial elements like one's name. Given that she evidently already greatly disliked who she was before, this complete clean slate approach, while extreme, may make those elements of her humanity that DO remain easier to hold onto than if she tried overly hard to cling on to things about herself that she considered to be undesirable out of fear, or a sense of obligation to try and stay human, or whatever else.
>>58594009The difference maker, ultimately, is that AbraGirl reasoned herself into this position. No one else we've met so far has done that - they either lost the battle with the instincts or thoughtlessly surrendered to them without due consideration. Again, not saying this guaranteed to have a good outcome, but the potential definitely exists, and I for one am very interested to find out where she goes from here.>>58591963>As I declinedWould be better as "As I descended". Other than that, looks solid. I do love Val's imagination spots - there's such a vibrant person dwelling JUST below the surface, struggling to break through the emotional turmoil. Really makes us want to see him succeed and be able to properly embrace that aspect of himself.>>58593737As Snivyanon said, Amaro is indeed the goodest of beans. he'd fit right in with Larson, Kurt, and Emma. Your deliberate emphasis on making the people in Kartanon's life easy to get on with definitely gives his story a lot of coziness to it. The sharpest blade with the gentlest heart - something very anime about that. If Kartanon can scrape a proper friend group together, you could also go into full-on "cute 'mons doing cute things" territory if you wanted to.
>>58594009>Meow's genderGo male but with a well practice feminine voice. It wouldn't just be funny, it'd be HILARIOUS to see the reaction of some dudes hitting on him super drunk.>>58594064>descendedArgh, that's the word I spent 30 minutes trying to remember! AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGHHThanks.>imaginationI'm glad that's being delivered correctly. Can I ask your opinion of what little of a nightmare I've written? I'm not sure it feels "dreamy" enough...
>>58594088Maybe later. I still gotta catch up with Copanon and Simon. Reading and commenting everybody's stuff is hard work.
>>58594186Understandable! You do basically carry half of the thread right now. I'm trying my best to ease myself into your role, but damn does my mind want a Picasso when I can only produce Corporate Memphis at the moment...Put my nightmare at the lowest priority. It's for a chapter I haven't even really began writing anyways, and I MIGHT come up with a revised version for review sometime before writing chapter 4.
>>58594088> Go male but with a well practice feminine voice.Hilarious indeed. This just reminded me of that one Skyrim Gamerpoop video.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPzs5y69vXE>>58593769Thanks for putting in the effort with the reversed text, appreciate it! Call it a skill issue (it is, desu), but there are also just some people not native to english.
Gosh, I think I FINALLY broke through some of my writers block and actually got to make some decent progress on chapter 4 of S&W, was like pulling teeth. I'm thinking the rest of the chapter should be easier to write so I hope to get it out tonight, and I WILL force it out if I have to seeing as though I won't have any days off this coming week and I feel bad for not posting any greens lately. >>58594207>NightmareAh crap, I completely glanced over this, I'm really sorry! I'll read it and give some thoughts after I get some sleep.
>>58594346And here I thought I was the only one who still remembers that guy existed.Hokay, Copanon time...>>58576114What I'm curious about is how the Mismagius learned all this about how their future sight exactly works.>>58576520Copanon WISHES he could get dressed up and enjoy Halloween like Larson and Kurt got to do.>>58577082Few small proof-reading things here, nothing too serious.>>58577404About halfway through this post is where it starts to feel rushed. There's even val-style tense snarls. For this post, we just cut straight from the first sounds of Fedorark engaging the Emboar to Copanon piling the kid into the car and turning around to only then notice that the forest is now on fire. I think it would've been much better if they witnessed jets of flame shooting out of the building and lighting the trees as they were in the process of escaping, the kid freaking out and the whole thing having a bit of tension as to whether the Emboar is going to catch them like it does in the flash-forward.>>58577583I dunno if it's necessarily normal for people to react to a forest fire that may spread to their homes at any moment by gawking at it. That could just be Aussie bushfire brain talking though. The drone is pretty convenient, but I'll give that a pass, but is a town of 50,000 really going to have multiple fire choppers readily available? Also apparently shadows are easier to see through smoke than the actual hulking bright orange pig monster? I'm not honestly 100% sure what you were going for there, especially as it then becomes a moot point pretty much immediately.
>>58594620>>58577884I do like Fedorark improvising with whatever she has to hand and just generally fighting in this needlessly cruel way as she takes full advantage of having an excuse to let H. Zoroark's nastier instincts come out and play. It's wince-inducing, but it immediately raises the intrigue of whether she'll be okay psychologically after all this, and I actually disagree with >>58580277 that the use of lethal force is an issue. Yeah, maybe Fedorark escalated too quickly, but when you consider what 'mon she is, the circumstances wherein one solid hit from this thing could quite literally reduce you to ash, and the fact that her area of expertise is digging incriminating evidence out of files and NOT in physically interdicting and arresting violent offenders like Copanon's is, I actually think it makes a lot of sense within the narrative, even if it's not necessarily the objectively best or most moral choice. However, the second water bomb apparently managing to turn the forest fire off like flipping a light switch seems questionable. And then the Emboar is suddenly deeper in the forest? When did that happen? It had just run itself into the wall of the building a moment ago, and we were given no indication it tried to flee from Fedorark into the forest. You do state that it moves into the forest right after, but the way it's written it looks like the Emboar starts a new fire deeper into the forest before it actually moves deep into the forest. The notion that the Trevenant may have punked the KO from Fedorark is interesting, but I'm not sure how it would've put the fire out. Granted maybe it's not the Trevenant, but it would seem weird not to pay that plot point off here, considering all the setup with how Copanon was considering using the Houndoom to smoke it out and all that stuff. So yeah, like I said, feels a bit rushed in places.
Exorcism timehttps://rentry.org/cb24k1tiAlso starting to catch up with CopAnon's work and wow, I did not mean to write so many similar ideas. With the car crash and Mismagius. To be clear, these events are entirely separate and any similarities are a pure coincidence. I came up with how things would go (up to this current part) in a brainstorming session after I finished that prologue. I swear to God if anything I wrote here is somehow related to another story I'm gonna do a backflip off the golden gate bridge
>>58594620>>58594658Yeah I'll admit I kinda rushed it. I think I can rewrite the last 3 ones to be more cohesive structure. Mostly because I kinda forgot to include some elements of the fight I wanted to originally include.>>58595011Bound to happen at some point especially if you are new.
>>58595011Not really, though this is what happens when you try to perform an exorcism with out proper blessing from the Arch Decons and an Exterminatus council.Like those things are big deals to tye church, can't have random branch bishops doing that stuff. One quick blooper, I am sure you meant ducked instead of fucked.
>>58595581I curse pretty frequently outside of this thread
>>58593813>Hopefully he doesn't boot up Scarlet and Violet and stumble on the Tinkaton entriesKartanon may or may not have thought ahead of that in not actively lending him the Switch after leaving well that and he didn't want to risk Amaro fucking up his file somehow, he's got event shinies in there you know?>>58594064>Your deliberate emphasis on making the people in Kartanon's life easy to get on with definitely gives his story a lot of coziness to it. The sharpest blade with the gentlest heart - something very anime about that. He's expecting his life to be a shonen not realizing it'll be closer to a Ghibli. But yeah, I know it can get a bit boring, but sometimes I think just having people who're a baseline "polite" is nice to read. No big conflict or the like for now, just... a bit of daily life moving along, just with some oddities added to it.>>58594346>Call it a skill issue (it is, desu)I thought I spoilered that so the joke-yness could be implied, now I just look like a dick, really sorry about that. I just kinda wanted to play that up a bit->but there are also just some people not native to english.I know, onions uno de ellos. ¡Saludos desde México!>>58595011Good stuff. Good thing the Dusknoir was there, now I just feel bad for Halles getting spooked to death... Really like the angle of people unaware about the games being met by their lore face to face, fun times.
>>58596131The power of the spoiler tag. No offence taken. This is still 4chan after all. A bit of banter hurt noone. Also, Mexican spotted! That's what I get for assuming everyone here is from Burgerland. As a Europoor I should know better, but alas...
>>58595011I haven't read the entirety of the story yet, just part 4, but I quite enjoyed it. I enjoyed the interaction with the Dusknoir. It doesn't hold perhaps the gravitas that it should, given the situation these people are in, but it's charming that he's treating it as another Wednesday.>>58594620>There's even val-style tense snarlsI OBJECT TO BEING USED AS A NEGATIVE EXAMPLE >:PNah I find it funny that I've made these mistakes so god damn much that I'm now the name for them.>>58594534No worries, hope you slept well! It's not even complete anyways, I stopped writing it after getting a full page. Wasn't even sure what I wanted to incorporate.>>58594346>there are also just some people not native to english.Hey, in fairness, even the natives will struggle with it. I got a A- on my college English and I still struggle with English from time to time, and that's before you throw in the reversing effect.Granted, I live in California so the standards are subterranean for what qualifies as an A lol
