Did you enjoy the 'dating' mechanic in Black and White 2? Would you like to see it return in the future?

Stop spamming the same topic over and over again. And they would only copypaste that without the stupid restrictions like the randomized areas check ins or needing to beat the E4.

I'll be real with you, I didn't even get to play it myself because it was stupidly tedious and I didn't wanna bother. I just looked it up on Youtube later.
The problem is also that it uses a character you don't really meet or get to know outside of their own sidequest. So why would you bother investing time into them in order to bond with them? You wouldn't know if it's worth it, maybe you won't even like them. So it's difficult to commit yourself to the task.
It should be a character that you already form a bond with through out the game, and then get an opportunity to bond with them further if you'd like. This way it wouldn't really be a problem if you had to do tedious shit because you already know you'd enjoy it, it's a motivating factor.
I would definitely like for it to return, considering how most rivals in Gen 9 are written like romance bait. It made me kinda mad that you couldn't do anything like that with any of them.

I didn't even do it, it was a chore

I never did this either. But I wish I could date N some more now that I'm older. Moreso because he's a mysterious character and I gotta know his secrets.
If I get close enough to N and he strips naked for me, will he also finally turn into a Zororak before sex?

Maybe if it was less contrived and if it was with a character who mattered more elsewhere in the game.

Like if you did romance them, maybe they'd show up at a point in the story to bust you out of danger when you'd otherwise have to do it yourself. Or maybe it would unlock them as a partner in whatever the latest battle facility is. Or if they were part of the story, maybe it'd change their dialogue towards you.

They shouldn't gender lock it to not leave 90% of the playerbase older than 12 stuck with the dude.

The problem is that the protag is ostensibly ten years old, and Japs have a taboo about depicting prepubescent kids in romantic scenarios. Like they won't ever imply that two child characters kissed or anything like that. They're only allowed to drop hints so the audience gets the feeling that "these two kids will grow up together and get married," which is a trope in Japanese stories. if they aged up the protags in the main series games to teenagers, then it would be different, but I don't see that happening.

how old are the ZA protags? because holy shit there was a lot of romantic tension with Taunie

I agree, but Nintendo isn't about to openly embrace gay or lesbian romancing in its games. Yes, technically GF is the one developing the Pokemon games, at least mainline games, but Nintendo, GF, and TPC all have a shared interest in keeping the Pokemon brand as mainstream friendly and clean of "controversy" (the general public does not consider dexit or performance issues controversial) so that the money keeps coming in.
But again, personally, I agree with you. In my mind, the best outcome would be leave it up to the player. Let them play as who they want, and date who they want, because it gives everyone a choice. Pokemon games can and should be primarily about the Pokemon, but doing a bit more with the human characters would add an additional layer of immersion, depth, and fun.

It's not a dating mechanic. It's just a sidequest, that's all. A full on dating mechanic doesn't fit Pokémon too well. This is a franchise about humans training monsters for mutual gain, a game mechanic of the humans dating is too removed from that. If anything it'd make more sense for our Pokémon to be able to form relationships with each other as a game mechanic, which feels like more related to franchise's concept.

Tell that to shoujo manga.
>>
>>58809401
No.
It was convoluted and tedious (The relationship is pretty cute though)
>>
>>58810005
Yeah they're able to lean into it more since the ZA protags are depicted as being older than the ones in the mainline games.

>shoujo manga
Intended for teen girls. Pokemon is intended for elementary school kids. It falls under the same category as Doraemon.
>>
>>58809973
I mean they could've just made the protag older. I honestly have no idea why they're so young in SV anyway, every rival looks notably older than them, except Kieran maybe.
>>
>>58810323
Well Nemona is your upperclassman, so naturally she'd be slightly older. Kieran appears to be the same age as the protag, which would make Carmine a little older.

BW/BW2 protags are 14
XY protags are 17
