What other possible reason would there be for it to have a psychic type, pearls prominently featured on it's design and lore about it diving in the ocean? The black pearls you're talking about have zero connection to pigs but they could also tie into the inspiration sure. Also yes they had a pokemon based on a biblical idiom in the same generation they made golems and parallels to leviathan and behemoth yes. Also I think clampearls evolution line is more based on the mysterious life cycle of eels which was not understood until fairly recently.
