Why does Hoenn have no gates?
>>58928095expensive construction
>>58928095Naruto is a theme of Hoenn and having gates would probably upend that theme. That's my headcanon at least.
>>58928095Because the GBA games can handle loading new graphics without them
>>58928095To prevent you from seeing articuno.
>>58928115>Naruto
>>58928095Because gens 1-3 are the only times Game Freak wrote console appropriate code>inb4 why gates for gens 1 and 2 thenThe Game Boy was already about to explode from running the game as is. Don't think they had CPU cycles left for dynamically loading more than the few object events.>inb4 why do FR/LG have gates thenBecause they didn't bother redesigning Kanto
>>58928095gates were more a workaround for limitations of hardware and not a deliberate choice, I imagine. they wanted to make a seamless open world, and Hoenn was right in that sweet spot of having good enough hardware and simple enough graphics to pull it off. I'm sure they would have done it for other generations if they could have. but the original gameboy probably wasn't strong enough, and the DS games had more complex 3D graphics.
>>58928095Bridges, not borders!
>>58928268Meant to type nature
>>58928115wouldn't having gates actually strengthen the Naruto theme?
