That's because Monster Hunter respects its franchise and monsters more than Game Freak does, which is pretty damn ironic considering Pokemon is allegedly all about friendship while you literally kill the monsters in Monster Hunter.

Monster hunter is built on themes of environmentalism and the cycle of life so it having a better approach to animal companions was always going to be a given. The only pokemon games that even bothered tackling similar themes were BW, SM, and PLA and only BW makes any real effort at exploring it
