In 2010, I went an entire Summer and then some without the internet. I remember coming back to school and logging onto the library computer to finally be able to see what Gen 5 was and I cannot express in words the potent disappointment I felt when I went to Serebii for the first time in ages and clicked on the New Pokemon section for BW only for my eyes to be assaulted with a constant unflinching barrage of the abominations that inhabited this Dex. I legitimately was asking myself if this was a joke, there was no way that the new Pokemon could possibly be this fucking ugly, but they were real. Nowadays, I'm not so hard on Gen 5 but that may be simply the mere exposure effect at work. Anyone else have a similar experience?

In 2013, I went an entire Summer and then some without the internet. I remember coming back to school and logging onto the library computer to finally be able to see what Gen 6 was and I cannot express in words the potent disappointment I felt when I went to Serebii for the first time in ages and clicked on the New Pokemon section for XY only for my eyes to be assaulted with a constant unflinching barrage of the abominations that inhabited this Dex. I legitimately was asking myself if this was a joke, there was no way that the new Pokemon could possibly be this fucking ugly, but they were real. I didn't know Gen 5 came out at the time
one day saw Hydreigon randomly online and went oh shit what's that
played the game, fell in love with the dex and it's still my favourite to this day

This is a very clever story that highlights why optometry is so important.

List of bad Gen 5 designs
Throh
Sawk

List of overhated Gen 5 designs
Whole dex aside from Haxorus, Serperior, Bisharp etc.

I actually liked most of them.

Indeed. With good eyesight, you'll realize how good Gen 5 mons are

I remember seeing "Wargle" before it released in Japan. It was the best looking Pokemon, and made me want to buy the game...

Throh and Sawk are good, though. I accept criticism of stuff like Garbodor, Swoobat, Emboar, Stunfisk, the genies, the muskedeers... but Throh and Sawk catch flak for no good reason.

I think that Gen 5 introduced some great new pokemon but the early game selection is fucking awful. They expect you to use boring shitters like Purrloin and Blitzle until you reach the desert area and can obtain something with an interesting playstyle. I want to like BW more than I do but the early game is so fucking boring.
>>
>>58940568
blitzle is great though. Why not mention patrat and pidove? they're really quite boring compared to most any regional vermin/birds and easy to pick on. But the generally well-liked blitzle?
>>
>>58940579
Blitzle isn't bad but it's incredibly boring to use. It literally just spams electric moves. In past entries pure electric types had more options. Jolteon had Shadow Ball, Electabuzz had Fire Punch, hell even something like Manectric had pre-split Bite. There's no excuse for Blitzle being so mind-numbingly boring.

Honestly I'll give Patrat and Pidove some credit here. Patrat gets some neat utility and Pidove can combine Super Luck with Air Cutter for some fun shenanigans. But I agree they're still pretty barebones, not like you'd ever want to use them on your team anyway though.

It gets Flame Charge and Pursuit via level-up which is pretty fun. and Stomp, which yeah I guess is a little lame but thematically fun, especially with the flinch chance. And getting Volt Switch means it can be useful as a lead for most of the rest of the game, especially because it can learn more odd moves like Overheat eventually after it evolves. Idk.

>Pursuit
>Fire Charge
>Generic normal type move
Dude these aren't good or interesting. Fire coverage would be good but Flame Charge sucks. Manectric gets Flamethrower, Ampharos gets Fire Punch but the best Zeb gets is Flame Charge? Cmon man. And unlike Pidove it doesn't even have a unique ability to salvage it.
>>
with the buffs it's gotten over the years, zebstrika would be a fine mon for in-game if they actually let you fucking have it before postgame for once
supercell slam, high horsepower, low kick is pretty solid for a physical electric

>>58940754
you're acting pretty silly

They're just kinda ugly

parroting is an admission of defeat

I looked at Zekrom and thought it was the coolest thing, still do

gen 6 was so atrocious it killed my care for pokemon for years
