I unironically love Gen 1 sprites. They're so SOVLFVL.

Why did you post a picture of yourself mr fatty

If you open it and wait 500 seconds, it turns into fagmark's pony pickle avatar

Green version had great sprites (except for Mew)
International Red/Blue had awful sprites

The R/G Mew sprite is great, it really plays up its partial inspiration of an embryo or a fetus, and gives it a more freakish appearance as a result. Easily one of my favorite gen 1 sprites.
I get why they changed Mew to be more cute and kid friendly, but it’s a bit of a shame I think.

>more cute and kid friendly
The whole franchise was changed to this when it became an unexpected hit

RIP Pokemon 1996-1996

You can tell they still were quite sure what a pokemon was back then. Some mons had a more animal like appearance.

Btw never understood why sandshrew had poison sting. Hes a shrew! How tf do they sting?

*Not quite

>>59021531
Pokes you and releases venom from its claws. Like a weaker version of poison jab, which it also learns.
>>
>>59021194
they look nice with the super gameboy filter. i wish they actually looked like that on the gbc.

It looks like it's standing like a sassy faggot.

From a certain perspective you’re absolutely right.
I can imagine there was a very small demographic who liked the ever so slight edginess gen 1 had and were turned off when gen 2 came out, or maybe even as soon as Yellow.
>>
>>59021848
gen 2 definitely killed pokemania in that respect
>>
>>59021881
lugia and kyogre scared me as a kid
>>
>>59021194
Squirtle line looked best in gen 1

What a silly thought. The cute pokemon are the ones that sell anyway, well that and the ones the anime pushes. GS were the second best selling launch pair until the Switch games came around.

Shrews have venomous bites.

One of the reasons why Gen 3 was the last good gen, everything after is absolutely unbridled megaslop filled with shitmons nobody likes.

gen 3 definitely course-corrected.
>>

Tpc's money grubbing killed it. Gen 1 was designed more or less in a vacuum based on what the creators liked, then they started chasing trends

>Guys we have to make more cutemons to appeal to the gay and female and disney audience
>Nooo now "cool" is in, quickly reverse course and do the opposite!
>>
>>59024394
and that's why it sold less

it sold less because pokemania died.
