In universe, why do you need to trade a Haunter to get Gengar?
>>
>>59030169
>series all about socializing
>so many people grew up without anyone to get trade evos with
That’s sad…

you know that thing where Bill used a teleporter? and he accidentally got fused with a pokemon? that was gonna be the justification for trade evolutions
trust me im nintendo

Electric signals stimulate the Pokemon or something
>>
In universe you don't
They'll eventually evolve on their own given the right conditions

It's purely a game mechanic
>>
It's like the Mangekyo Sharingan where the emotional betrayal activates further evolution.

I really wish they went further into the aspect of trading outside the multiplayer aspect.
Imagine if you could instigate a trade with any other trainer after you battle them. Then later on you can fight them again, and see your old pokemon with more experience, newer moves, and even more evolved.
Of course, this would require having an actual reason to fight trainers again aside from just grinding, or just more than a few trainers you fight multiple times naturally.
Imagine trading a random mountaineer for his Graveler, and seeing it change into a Golem, which you've never seen before.

this. They even lose their happiness rating when you trade them. they hate it.

No one in my area played Pokémon except for the one kid who stole my Alakazam

They did that in BW2. There was a girl you could trade with, then you could rematch her later on with the Pokémon you traded her.
