Been playing Fire Red on Switch. I like to play with mons I like or ones that are considered "bad" so I don't use the starter or anything that would make the game too easy just to spice things up since I've played these games so many times. Everything was going pretty smoothly up until I got the elite four and just couldn't do a damn thing, can't even beat Lorelei. Grinding my whole party to a level where I can just bruteforce my way through was taking too long and out of principle I refuse to budge on who's on my team, so I had the brilliant idea to try and get a lucky egg off Chansey to try and help speed things up. I have been in the Safari Zone for 25 hours now and have only caught 8 Chanseys. I ran the numbers taking into account the spawn, catch and flee rates and it's around 1 in 4,900. I'm in too deep and now it's just a personal challenge to find this fucking thing.What's the most insane thing you guys have done in these games?
I paid full price for firered like a crazy person. This was over 20 years ago though, so maybe it wasn't too crazy
Make sure you are using the repel trick as well as the frlg bait strategy which roughly quadruples your catch rate on chanseys each encounter
>>59031514I got pissed off when replaying Gen 1 when wild mons like Growlithe/Pidgey would use Roar/Whirlwind and send my mon out of the battle early-- I was pissed off at the loss of potential exp but also I thought it made my mons look like pussies I guess (especially Roar, where it says they ran off in fear or whatever from some shitty puppy growling at them). So I'd stay in the grass and hunt down an identical wild mon of the same level as the one that prematurely ended the battle, and then kill it with the same mon in order to assert dominance and get back what I deserved.I wish I could say I did this as a kid but it was like last year. As a kid it didn't bother me at all
>>59031514i did the same, used mons that weren't as used or i havent used before in a playthrough. i ended up just sweeping the elite four with a under leveled slowbro; picked up every rare candy i could to limp it across the finish line and leftovers. don't torture yourself with the egg, its just a zoomer trope of picking one up that is popular on twitter and YT that has been floating around since the release of the switch bc level up is "apparently" hard, its gonna take an insane amount of luck and its not worth your sanity.

>>59031514You're better off catching 6 Meowth and grinding Pickup for Rare Candies. About 35 or so hours into Magikarp fishing with 6 Meowth and I have over 70 Rare Candies before the third gym. Fishing encounters aren't even particularly fast, either. 5 Meowth and 1 Staryu in the front of your party with Illuminate would probably be much faster than trying to get a Lucky Egg.
