Was Raichu a mistake? I noticed it's a lot less popular than its pre evolution.
>>
Even its mega evolutions need to make it look more like Pikachu.
>>
The problem is that they made it an asshole in its anime debut and it was a bad first impression. If they hadn't done that, Raichu would've been just fine
>>
>>59044560
Yes
>>
>>59044560
The fact that its relative unpopularity compared to Pikachu is canon in universe is really funny
>>
Raichu was a mistake because the series focused on Pikachu. He would be better received if Pikachu wasn't the main character.
>>
>>59044560
It got two Megas, so atleast it gets some scraps of being the evolution of the Series Mascot
>>
>>59044560
nope, he's great
>>
>>59044560
As a kid I always thought Raichu was way cooler than Pikachu and I never understood why Ash wouldn't want to evolve it
>>
Mistake? No. A victim of a cultural phenomenon lighting-in-a-bottle (pardon the adjacent pun)? Absofuckinglutely.
>>
>>59044560
No. You need to remember Pikachu was turned into a mascot by the anime department. Raichu only became secondary due to external forces after the fact.
>>
>>59044698
Watch the Lt. Surge episode. Pikachu didn't want to evolve and Ash respected his wishes.
>>
>>59044666
While true, one of those is a blatant Pikachu pander and subtly pushed as the more "correct" version, than the others being straight-up alt strategy efforts.
>>
>>59044698
Ash doesn't care if Pikachu evolves. It's always been Pikachu himself that doesn't want to evolve and because his Pikachu has the G-max factor it means he never would've been able to evolve even if he wanted to.
>>
it's kinda ugly honestly
but maybe that's just the pikashilling getting to me
>>
>>59044612
That's not a Raichu exclusive thing. Most megas take design aspects from previous evolutions.
>>
>>59044713
How immature. Pikachu says "I don't wanna grow up" and Ash goes along with it because he also has Peter Pan Syndrome and in fact never ages. They represent GameFreak's target audience: children. When those children grow up, GR will gladly take their money but will never, ever cater to them.
>>
>>59044713
Why does the anime have all these manchild pokemon like Pikachu and Piplup?
>>
>>59044852
>The show meant to advertise the mons uses its most marketable mons
:0
>>
>>59044849
Evolution stage has no correlation with age. Fully evolved Pokemon hatch out of eggs just fine. Meanwhile the anime has also portrayed first stage starters as seniors (that one Treecko is the first to come to mind).

GF/TPC probably thinks it is
I've always kind of though pikachu was the weakest of its line though. My favorite version of pikachu is the earliest one which looks more like raichu.
>>
>>59044849
In the novel Meowth translates what Pikachu is saying to Ash when he swats away the thunderstone
>"This is what Pikachu said. He has to defeat Raichu as a Pikachu. For his pride as a Pikachu, there’d be no meaning in victory if he were to evolve..."
>>
I hate pikancer.
>>
In FRLG, Raichu is canonically ugly in-game and girls tend to not want to evolve it into that fat orange shit and instead keep Pikachu cute.

No one wants it. Game freak regrets it. Raichu will never be anything on it’s own merit but just that thing Pikachu evolves into.
It’s #26.
Literally the Christmas Cake mon.
Enjoy the small bit of recognition in a spinoff game no one will care about in a year.
>>
not really, more people care about raichu than pikachu nowadays, but since gamefreak cant afford to give up on pikachu after so many years of him being the series' mascot, they just keep pandering to the mindless merchfags in order to barely keep pikachu relevant
>>
bump cuz raichu severely needs it
>>
>>59045328
Honestly them trying to ruin Raichu's reputation has ended up hurting Pikachu in the long run because Pikachu's such a dogshit mon in-game that it's no longer fun to use solo in-game thanks to all the power creep. Fucker is worse than some second-stage Starters and Light Ball doesn't help its middling speed. Tons of other mons are getting more popular in merch like Eevee, Clefairy and Gengar

>>59045342
It's more of a case of Pikachu getting so Mickeyfied over the years that the Pikachu the world fell in love with doesn't exist. If WaWi drops and Pikachu looks like the bulbous round-head Sugimori abomination, I think that'll be the fucker's death nail for being popular because the reception for that design has been lower than Raichu's ever gotten
>>
>>59045328
>Raichu is canonically ugly in-game
Proof?
>>
>>59044560
raichu is a good husband but a bad father
>>
>>59045342
>more people care about raichu than pikachu
no.
>>
>>59044822
Bitch this straight up just a pikachu with horns
>>
>>59046584
>Most megas take design aspects from previous evolutions.
>>
>>59044822
Only really became prevalent with the Z-A Megas, and even then they didn't go all the way in places where it feels like they should have, like giving Greninja frubbles.
>>
>>59046586
>Most megas have the same body type as the previous evolutions
>>
>>59046584
You can tell they wanted to make mega pikachu instead kek
>>
>>59046592
Yeah, I think that's accurate.

>>59044560
This is not even subtle at this point
>>
>>59046584
They've been trying to thin Raichu to look like Pikachu for ages, check how it looks in the anime

>>59046587
Honestly it only feels like cope because of how bad Feraligatr was, some of the "takes from previous form" designs do it either more subtly or more interestingly like Chimecho. The Mega Raichus kind of get away with it since they split the design traits between both XY Megas pretty modestly instead of combining them both into just "bigger Pikachu"
>>
>>59046602
it's accurate only for raichu y
>>
>>59046608
Nah. ait's accurate for most megas. You said
>Most megas have the same body type as the previous evolutions
And that's correct. Because you said "evolutions" we can use the whole evolutionary family, and yes, most megas look like the previous pokemon they mega evolved from.

If this isn't what you meant, why did you type it?
>>
>>59046614
>>Most megas have the same body type as the previous evolutions
Wrong
>>
>>59046630

I accept your concession.

We're still at this point.

lol
>>

>No counter argument
This is why I was forced to accept your concession.
You can keep spamming the thread if you like, but I'd prefer if you didn't. Thanks.

lol

Uh-oh! Stinky
>>
>>59046658
>Doesn't even try to defend his point anymore
yikes
>>
No more (you's), you've had enough.
>>
>>59046558
If Raichu didn’t exist or was removed, Pikachu would likely be running off much higher stats
>>
>>59046558
>If WaWi drops and Pikachu looks like the bulbous round-head Sugimori abomination
Sirenspergs proving they didn't watch the trailer to go along with their acronym retardation.
>>
>>59046577
You really should start paying attention to the games now, you're no longer 4 and using the "I can't read" excuse.
>>
>>59046823
Preferring how one thing looks doesn't mean the other thing is "ugly". And it certainly doesn't mean its "ugly according to canon".
>>
>>59044560
Not to my eyes, not that I don't like Pikachu but Raichu's been one of my favorites ever since a young lad watching the anime. Lt. Surge Raichu was based. Also look at that cute and fat, yet menacing mf. I always look forward to catching the mascot and getting the stone. I was massively disappointed by his Y mega, but his X mega us just meh but salvageable. They did my boi dirty.
>>
>>59046918
Shit I was talking about design, I had no idea his stats were outright "tiers" shittier than mega pikachu >>59046604, what the hell gf. Why is it a shit physical electric, not even fast, attacker? I guess Alolan Raichu is the only love he ever received.
>>
>>59046894
But it does in not so many words. Getting mad because Game Freak were kind about its reception on a meta level won't change the fact they basically said "people think Rai's ugly compared to Pikachu, so most don't evolve them".
>>
>>59046659
You smell like pissbaby.
>>
>>59047067
Ofcourse you'd knew how that smells like kek
>>
>>59044560
Raichu is very popular with actual fans of Pokemon and frequently gets new merchandise
Raichu is in the shadow of the series literal mascot, but he's gained something of an underdog reputation because of it and everyone loves an underdog
>>
>>59045328
>in FRLG
>post a dex entry from gen 7
>>
>>59044560
No, and Game Freak doesn't think so either given its regional form and 2 Megas
>>
>>59044822
They really shouldn’t. Evolution’s always been a step beyond, retreading old aspects that have been shed and pretending they’re stronger feels counterproductive. It’s part of why megas are kinda shit
>>
>>59048667
>ven its regional form
importat pokemon dont get regional replacmennts
>and 2 Megas
only made because they fucked themselves in the ass by stablishing that NFE's can't mega evolve and they're too prideful to change it
