In pokemon sword I just kinda started but even before sleeping at the hotel to register for the league I get the option to go to both DLC areas.
Would it mess up the game if I went there now?

I wouldn't recommend going too far if you care about the intended progression, you get an exp bonus item pretty early on. But it has level scaling so you can still check it out and see if there's any Pokemon you want to catch or whatever.
