Could a point-based system, like tabletop WH40, work for a PVP pokemon gametype?
>pokemon are given point values by how good they are, how much stats they have, or some other factor
>every move is given a point value
>every held item is given a point value
>can't go over the agree point value
I was just thinking about it at work today cause I thought it was lame how in every tier of like ubers and OU and whatever, the moves are the same through each tier. But maybe something like this would shake things up.
Like yeah, you could have a super minmax pokemon with the best setup, but it would take like 4 slots on your team. So you'd have to make suboptimal choices if you didn't want to play a 2v6.

I think it could be interesting at least.
There's a lot you could potentially do with pokemon, that never will, unfortunately. A point buy system is at least something you could do with existing software and a fan community.
Spitballing, 100 points per team. Each pokemon is worth X based on its competitive tier, moves and items cost Y based on their relative value. Splurging on an OU staple mon, outfitted with four great moves, and its ideal item might run you upwards of 50 points on its own, while you could slum it with shit like a Toxic Orb Raticate with Facade, Crunch, and nothing else for like 5 points.
