There's no difference between third versions (Yellow, Crystal, etc.) and DLC

There's only ever been four "third version" in the entire series. It's been abandoned for longer than it ever existed.

>>59068864That's because to Game Freak they were considered "Upper versions" as well as being "new titles set in the same region as previous games".But since they knew they couldn't get away with charging $60 for upper versions, they pivoted to DLC to far better effect. More sales, as people WILL buy extra content to continue playing their file, rather than spending full price for system games for a "new" game with scant little content. That it's also all wholly new content to the series, rather than the majority being recycled content with some new additives means it's also far more consumer-friendly (for the most part, I enjoyed L: Z-A's DLC, can see why some took issue with it though). But I also think DLC for a paired game is treated with a bit more cop-on than DLC for a game that seemingly got affected by Nintendo's desire to delay Switch 2.
