So how am I actually supposed to play pokemon? I played Black and Y as a kid with the mindset of the only stat to worry about is the opponents HP and dealing as much damage as possible. I wanted to get back into playing and apparently other stats are way more important, so hoe do I 'play properly'? What am I supposed to be doing and looking for with my pokemon?

>>59068721If you're just playing the campaign it really doesn't matter
>>59068721"playing properly" doesn't really matter for in-game/story mode/the campaign/whatever the fuck you want to call it. maybe you wanna get a halfway decent nature for your pokemon, but even that doesn't really matter.playing "properly" only matters if you're going to be battling other actual players.

>>59068721Speed is arguably the most important stat in the game. Determining who goes first is huge because it sets the pace for the battle, and also just logically, if you go first and get a KO that’s one less turn your opponent gets. On the defensive side too, if you don’t have a way to control speed, fast teams will run you over. Think about all the noobs that got destroyed by Cynthia’s Garchomp. That mf is a beast. You also want to start using status moves like swords dance or dragon dance or nasty plot. That takes you from just winning individual matchups to setting you up to win the entire battle. Since you are vulnerable while setting up, try to be strategic about it when you do it, like if you know your opponent will switch out or use a move that’s not very effective. This is also how you can use team synergy to enable your setup sweeper by using screens or burning your enemy (reduces their attack by 50%). This is just some stuff to start out with. If you’re just doing single player the meta isn’t really that important.
