I've been promiscuous and have been in Palworld threads and Palworld fandom Discord and pages on Reddit.

And I must say: the environment there is LEAGUES better than anything Pokémon has to offer.

Pokémon community is riddled with negativity, cynicism, pessimism, depression, and an unhealthy amount of infighting. There was none of this in the Palworld communities. There was still curiosity, optimism and excitement towards what is coming.

I know Gamefreak makes it hard to be positive, but why is the mood in this community so gloomy? When was the last time you were even excited about anything Pokémon related?
>>

Pokémon is sorta mediocre.
And gen 8 and 9 certainly didn't help.
And the Switch 2 with "game key cards", paid online, a poor library and low quality hardware doesn't help either.
Palworld is a bit overrated but still a genuinely great game if you are into that genre.
>>
>>59661331
Because Pal is primarily for heterosexual men and we actually like and discuss our interests unlike the women, gays, and trans which make up the supermajority Pokemon fanbase who come into the Pokemon fandom for attention and to fester in drama.
>>
Because we're bored

The average pokemon fan is 30-35.
>>
>>59661344
A human in a modern first world country is expected to live 80 years, unless you work a high risk job like military.
If 35 is already too old your life must be fucking depressing.
>>
>>59661331
Gee idk, maybe cause the games have been hot garbage for several generations and GF is a lazy and greedy company? Like, what kind of answer are you looking for? Look at the state of the Switch era games and tell me what exactly we're supposed to be optimistic about. Seriously.

FWIW though, this community doesn't reflect the overall feeling towards Pokemon. The games are selling better than ever, it's still an extremely popular franchise. If you just want to stick your head in the sand and consume slop, you are in good company. 4chan just tends to be more critical.

Pokemon has a lot of baggage and emotional investment, as well as several different audiences with different interests shoved under one roof. Doesn't mix very well.
The 6 year old girl that buys pokemon merch because eevee is cute has nothing in common with the 40 year old man that buys the newest game and rushes it through it without giving a shit about the pokemon or the campaign just because he likes the battle system in competitive.
Palworld is a newer game that was openly satire so everyone just takes things as they come without any expectations other than a fun game.
>>
>>59661353
They were never too great.
>Easy difficulty
>Simple gameplay even by JRPG standards
>Very simple story
>Same plot every game
>Pokémon don't talk and don't have personalities or their own arcs like JRPG party members.
>Pokémon are static unanimated sprites in old games and have 2-4 animations each in new games.
>Slow combat animations
>Weak dungeons
>Weak exploration past gen 3
>Generally worse artstyle for the generation
>Buy 2 consoles and 2 of the same game to complete the dex
>Buy glorified DLC third edition of the sane game 2 years later.
>Obvious shill campaigns for Pokémon like Lucario or Greninja to sell merch
>Time limited event Pokémon
>Time wasting mechanics to spite perfectionists
>IVs
>EVs
>Natures
>Breeding
>1/100000 shinies
Switch games just had bad graphics and performance, fugly human character designs, a small but noticable amount of woke rot and very weak villains. Otherwise the flaws go back all the way even in the "golden era".
Nintendo consoles generally have a lot better to offer.
>>
>>59661422
Most of this list is your own personal retardation. Like this one
>Buy 2 consoles and 2 of the same game to complete the dex
Nobody does this. Go out and trade, you fucking idiot. That's the point of two versions.
>>
because the people who want the series to improve are overwhelmingly outnumbered by the endless swarm of shit eating retards. this reasonably results in high levels of anger and frustration knowing things will never improve and that we can't even kill these braindead cattle to thin their numbers
>>
A variety of factors like:
- the dex cut
- the move cut
- the humiliation ritual that was BDSP being a faithful remake that didn't have any of the cut moves like Return & Frustration
-SV being a buggy mess at launch
- the TCG being held hostage by scalpers
- Game Freak being highly reluctant to buff weaker Pokemon
- Pokemon Champions having said weak Pokemon and doing NOTHING worthwhile for them to improve their viability
- and finally, the classic "the Battle Frontier project has started!"

You also have Game Freak being an absolute ass over riding Pokemon given that you can't ride a Skiddo or Gogoat in Legends ZA like you could in XY (and not to mention how gatetkept it is in general outside of LGPE, leading to more accusations of Kanto bias). And Game Freak is very lazy given that the following mechanic for the Isle of Amor and Crown Tundra was lazily slapped on. They couldn't even bother adding it to the main game itself.

Then came along Palworld further amplifying the disdain for modern Pokemon given that literally every Pal that's large enough can be ridden while also letting you interact with all of your Pals without some stupid le quirky gimmick like Picnic or Camp.

And to finish things off you have groups like the Sharty provoking even further agitation with their shit strawmen and gotchas defending everything wrong with the franchise. And no, I will not apologize for saying that fully evolved weak Pokemon should be buffed.
>>
>>59661446
Beedrill will never be good, cope & seethe
>>
>>59661446
Hit the nail in the head.

>And no, I will not apologize for saying that fully evolved weak Pokemon should be buffed

Keep in mind Gamefreak has absolutely no idea what they should buff or nerf. Ohmori thought Flareon, Tyranitar and Garbodor were overpowered. A lot of the reluctance to give Flareon Flare Blitz was because of that.
>>
>>59661451
You're proving that anon right when he mentioned the Sharty.
>>
It is almost like there is nothing to be positive about. This franchise is in a very strong downward thrust, and nobody cares because it still sells.
>>
>>59661331
Because you'll buy it anyways no matter how many shit gens in a row come out
>>
>>59661457
>Gamefreak has absolutely no idea what they should buff or nerf. Ohmori thought Flareon, Tyranitar and Garbodor were overpowered. A lot of the reluctance to give Flareon Flare Blitz was because of that.
Friendly reminder that there was "shock" over Aegislash being used as a special attacker and that there were expectations for Aromatisse to have heavy usage in Trick Room.

Game Freak would literally pull a "do you guys not have phones" or "fortunately we have a product for people who aren't able to get some form of connectivity. It's called Xbox 360" if asked why they're reluctant on giving certain Pokemon moves they should be able to learn.
>>
>>59661331
It's more who you interact with. The only time I see serious negativity or cynical is when I'm here.
>>
>>59661434
All of these are genuine game design criticisms.
A good game provides gameplay and/or a story which mainline Pokémon doesn't quite fail but is certainly very mediocre at. They don't suck like some broken unplayable RPG but they aren't great. Especially on Nintendo consoles and made by a huge studio with practically infinite money rather than a single dev with limited time and money.
>>
>>59661489
>All of these are genuine game design criticisms.
No they aren't. Complaining about EVs, IVs, Natures, Breeding (beyond archaic btw) and shinies tells me you're either a casual frustrated you can't understand the games' mechanics or a bored tourist.
>>
>>59661331
Why are you such a little bitch about it? Just ignore the negativity you retarded baby.
Also don't forget that a lot of people shit on Pokémon purely for (You)s or other forms of clout. Because when you spew the typical "Pokémon is le bad xd" circlejerk "opinions", you get (You)s from both people going "so tru bro LOL" and "NOOO Pokémon is GOOD stop being MEAN". So people spam that shit fucking everywhere. And they never touched the games they shitpost about mind you, they just watched some retarded Youtuber pretend to have a meltdown about whatever the current game is cause kids love le funny overreaction, and because it gets clicks from both aforementioned people. And then retards come and take that shit as gospel somehow.
>>
>>59661331

Grinding repetetive shit over and over again for hours just isn't fun.
It also kinda goes against the message of Pokémon as friends.
I would rather have a gameplay challenge or exploration to create the strongest characters, or even just skill tree building.

>Pokémon don't talk and don't have personalities or their own arcs like JRPG party members.
>>
>>59661331
What do you expect? Game Freak are lazy retards and Pokefags are complete assholes. When you have the worse devs AND the worse fandom the few people who have standards are going to be pissed.
Shit In=Shit Out. Simple as
>>59661446
>>59661422
Pretty much completely true, but for the sake of good faith I have to address the "static unanimated sprites in old games". That was pretty much the standard in the 90's for RPG's and pokemon had 151 monsters, and reminder, Game Body cartridges had so little space that the average modern image uses more space than the entirety of Gen 1. While Game Freak has proven that they are shit at their jobs even when they have everything, at least early gens had somewhat of an excuse.
>>59661489
Game Freak are assholes who hate Pokemon and only care about making excuses and rape porn
>>
Because everything produce pokemon is dogshit, shit anime, shit games, shit tcg etc.except maybe marketing and plushies, and it has the most dogshit fandom ever

>>
>>59661399
This is exactly it. And you see the same thing in other long running franchises with diverse audiences like this. The WoW community for example is extremely similar to the Pokemon community in terms of all the in-fighting, they basically even have their own version of gen wars with people arguing over different expansions the same way we argue about generations. It's just what happens when you are a 30 year old franchise with ten different product streams all trying to appeal to different types of people. Palworld doesn't have that baggage.

Add on to that that the quality of the games is genuinely going downhill, and that 4chan is just a very negative community in general, and you get /vp/.
>>
>>59661331
You would think that nintendo losing multiple lawsuits to challengers in the battle/collection pet genre would make them wake up and make better games but that's not what happened at all.
>>
>>59661526
>Grinding repetetive shit over and over again for hours just isn't fun.
You are SUCH a fucking idiot. Holy fucking shit.
Older games have Pokerus and Power items to increase EV grinding. And vitamins. And you can just check a chart for the highest EV yield Pokemon and go there. Newer games remove the limit on vitamins so you never need to grind ever. You would know this if you played a Pokemon game made in the past goddamn decade.

>I would rather have a gameplay challenge or exploration to create the strongest characters, or even just skill tree building.
So your "criticisms" are to turn Pokemon into something it's not, because you refuse to engage with the mechanics and take the slowest possible path, while complaining the mechanics are too simple.

Just get the fuck off the board you disgusting tourist.
>>
Because invested manchildren can't accept they were but tools to further the brand. Chewed up, spat out and ignored, so small wonder they're hateful caustic fucks concerning it. It doesn't care about them and that upsets them, as all they want is to have it focus on them again.

The fact that they had the balls to patent the concept of gliding and of throwing a ball to summon a thing is insane. They patent trolled every single feature of Palworld, and we are only glad that the JPO wasn't willing to let them summarily win all of them.

They wanted to patent rideable creatures, ffs, a feature that they didn't even invent. They clearly just wanted to see how much they could get away with — which is a lot.

Had Palworld not gotten support from Sony and everybody else that is tired of Gamefreak, they'd be in a tough spot. I read an interview with the main dev (who isn't even 30 years old) detailing just how scary it was when they found out the tons of lawsuits Nintendo had shoved on them, and just how anxious and scared they were.

Pretty ugly that they had to remove features that were in the game from day zero of early access because it offended Gamefreak.

It just screams Gamefreak is a very pathetic, insecure, petty and vindictive studio.

>I believe gamefreak is truely incompetent, but they still put a lot more love and effort into this game they actually wanted to make than Pokémon

It is very telling when the game still sucked terribly, despite being made with love and passion.

>no enemy variety
>padded out game time
>is no Nier Automata but makes you replay it for the true ending
>no replayability at all
>betting it all on fancy Unreal Engine default assets
>proves Gamefreak is a parody of itself and very insecure of their shit looking games so much that they think the Unreal Engine graphics would carry them
>runs like garbage, like all Unreal Engine
>repetitive combat
>dog gets boring
>"we want the Persona 5 and Expedition 33 audience" menus, without understanding tonal cohesion that made Persona 5 legendary

Beasts of Humiliation is a bad PS2 game, which makes sense; Gamefreak has never made a single game better than Pokémon Colosseum 1 by HAL Labs for the Nintendo 64.

I honestly think we need to start seriously discussing the retirement of /vp/. It has lost all reason to exist.

Pokémon is in an irreversible decline, and so is the discourse on it.

Let me guess, because they aimed it at adults instead of kids? Just because they don't care for casualties of life like you dosen't mean they don't have passion and love for it. They do in fact adore when kids go gaga for their shit. And you can't phone that in and expect kids to give a shit *coughyokaiwatchcough*.

There still are pokémon available each game retard-chan. They stopped adding them all in to every game because 3D is expensive and hard and they don't need to be worrying about adding 600 extraneous creatures, when we already saw how gimped and hampered the games were in Gen 6 and 7 trying to do that faithfully.
>>
pokemon is too childish and the fanbase is 30-40 years old, not surprise
