Tell me about when you first traveled to the digital world. For me, I ended up getting Gabumon. I tried my best to raise him right, but I made a lot of mistakes. He was often tired and I didn't realize he couldn't handle the stress. I sent him into some battles he couldn't win because I thought it didn't matter if he lost. The he digivolved into Numemon. I wasn't able to do much with him after that and he passed away before he could become an Ultimate. With his re-incarnations though, I would go on to save the entire island.
Anons, this game was magical.

Sadly the digigirls started fucking their leomon and panthermon.
>>
When I played it as a kid and I don't think I ever got past drill tunnel.
I just finished the game and got to 100 prosperity.
It has some interesting ideas, but there are too many unexplained mechanics, and there's way too much grinding just to get a usable digimon.
>>
>>10862898
Didn't you enjoy the mystery of exploring File Island?
>>
>>10863043
There's some fun in it, yeah, but by the time you get a useful digimon for exploring, you only have a few days of their lifespan left, so I ended up just looking up a lot of progression stuff.
>>
>>10863043
>>10863160
Also, I thought the battle system was really interesting, especially for the time. You make attack choices based on how the animation play out. Too bad your digimon needs such high brain stats to issue comments.
Even when you get the basic strong attack/ weak attack commands, the game doesn't tell you that that's what they do.
>>
>>10862161

I was way too young and didn't understand the game, but I have memories of how it looked. The island felt like such an adventure.

I have yet to replay it
>>
>>10863325
You weren't too young. The game is an incomprehensible mess.
With the help of evolution tool and the ability to search forums for explanations of mechanics it can be kind of fun though.
>>
>>10863339
>You weren't too young. The game is an incomprehensible mess.

Glad to hear it wasn't my 8 (?) year old me being a dummy.

I've seen some hacks that attempt to fix the game, too. I might just replay it with one of those
>>
>>10863374
I just played it to completion to resolve my frustrations with the game from childhood honestly, but there's some fun in the game.
>>
>>10862161
does any other PS1 game have more pooping?

You crossed the bridge and went into its territory. Adventuring has a cost.

most digigirls are based whores.
i still remember some fans complaining of an old game demo because the author made the girls too sluts, yet in kizuna there is a scene of taichi hidding his porn moviesand the girls in those movies looked like hikari, sora and mimi with wigs.

If they didn't want us fucking digimon then they shouldn't made them so fuckable in the first place.
>>
>>10862161
very interesting and original game with great art and atmosphere

but very cryptic and a pretty non-existent story with very weak characters
>>
>>10867141
>No, no, no! Please don't fuck the digimon!
>>
It's not fair to fuck Angewomon because she's literally just a big woman with wings and an outfit. The real Digimon fucking starts with Renamon.

Ruined me then
Still ruins me now.
I can fully understand why depictions of women's bodies have been banned at some point in every generation.

It’s the only game I can safely say is a masterpiece in my eyes even with all of its countless flaws and obtuseness. It was my first ps1 game I got when I was in 2nd grade and even though I didn’t understand it well, I was entranced by it. I played it for years regardless of the frustrations and bugs. There’s just something about it that I can’t get over. I’m replaying it now at 31 and I’m still just as obsessed with it now as I was when I was a kid
>>
There's some hacks for the digimon world games that help with the in game issues.

one of the few games fromy childhood I can safely say is unplayable without a guide
either you have a walkthough or you play it until you find out, but a kid hardly would hold his attention long enough for it to happen
plus they wanted to play with the digimon from the cartoon, not the shit eating slime, that is why Digimon games always lost to Pokémon in the west
>>
If you romhacked this game you didn't beat the game

> or you play it until you find out, but a kid hardly would hold his attention long enough for it to happen
The entire point of the game is exploration and discovery. Uncovering and solving mysteries. That's what made it great.

How do I get into this series? The vpet thing feels weird to me if they just constantly die. What's the progression like in these games?
>>
>>10872012
You watch the anime.
>>
>>10872012
>What's the progression like in these games?
The digimon is like a pet in that you have to feed and care for it (discipline it when necessary, put it to bed at night, take it to the toilet, etc), but you also train its stats through battle and at the gym in town. When it dies, it leaves behind an egg and the next digimon that hatches will inherit some of the previous digimon's stats. In that way, the more digimon you raise the stronger they'll each be over time despite having a limited lifespan and dying regularly.

You explore the island, starting from the village in the middle. You go out and explore just like you expect of an RPG, meeting digimon you can recruit to repopulate the town, fighting random digimon around each area, and going through various dungeons and participating in other activities. The goal is to find all the recruitable digimon and bring them back to town and then to beat up the guy who caused all the trouble to begin with.

The limited life of each digimon means you have to set goals for yourself as you explore and manage your time wisely in order to explore further out into the world. It adds a sort of strategic planning element to exploration.

Some sidequests, activities, and dungeons require specific digimon or types of digimon to complete, so there's an incentive for raising different kinds of digimon throughout the game. Digimon evolve based on their evolution line and what stats they have at the time they're ready to evolve.

I think that pretty much sums up what the game is like. Beyond that, just try it for yourself. Read the manual and try to just figure things out on your own, but if you get too frustrated you could look up a guide on which stats to focus on for which evolutions. I'd limit just how much you look up, though, half the fun of the game is uncovering all the secrets.

>>
>>10872012
There's secret progression, it's just centered around things people don't think about. It plays more like a roguelite. You advance your town which makes it easier to raise Digimon, and your Digimon collect moves. You can unlock every single move in the game if you want, plus start with so many advantages that you can get a Digimon to max stats, provided you have some idea what you're doing. The quick deaths do feel a little uncomfortable but you'll get used to it and it gives you an excuse to try different Digimon and get things done in a timely manner.
>>
So is this better than Monster Rancher?
>>
>>10875032
It depends on your style preferences. I feel that Monster Rancher is "better" but Digimon World is more of a novel, open world experience whereas Monster Rancher cuts to the point. Digimon World delivers a unique sense of wonder.
