However, I can admit I've not finished them since they are a bit involved like PC strategy games, as the special hero units buff their sub units within a certain range and I can't quite take the losses as well. As for the Saturn game, it does have a lenticular cover which does not show up well in photos, but it is supposed to give a sense of parallax between the different characters/elements adding some depth. It is nice, but requires that slightly thicker CD case for larger game manuals. The artwork is already nice, but it is just an added touch which makes the game stand out more from other titles on the Saturn. I think an artist going by Kawarajima Koh has an artstyle pretty close to Urushihara-sensei, but he's more into the ero side of art moreso.>>10868304Yeah, Urushihara-sensei seems to have left the Langrisser series straight into the Growlanser series. >>10871171There's no definitive edition. Even the new remake doesn't quite improve over the originals.I'd just recommend you to skip Warsong (Langrisser 1) and go straight to Langrisser 2. Both Genesis and SNES versions are translated, also they are quite different as the SNES game is a full remake rather than just a port.Also both versions have their merits, but the SNES version has several different paths, and this is usually considered the main selling point of the game.You could play the main route in the Genesis version and then some alternative routes in the SNES version if you're into it, but if you're not sure, I'd vastly prefer to play just the SNES version instead of playing just the Genesis version.

I only beat the first game. It was fun up until midway into the game when the constant meteor spam started every mission. Then every mission turns into micromanaging hoards of units to tiptoe around casters' spell range (or concentrating units at the front to take the blow and heal the following turn). At that point in the game you've got ~50 units with a huge command range where you can't rely on the auto move command to not act stupid so every turn is boring and takes foreverI thought maybe that was just a game design fluke in the first game and they'd move on from it in the sequel, but once that shit started again in 2 I dropped it and moved on to play something else. The music and art in Dramatic Edition was really cool, though, wish I could have enjoyed it more.
