>1989 was 20 years ago
>>10871913Happy birthday. While almost none of the GB games are masterpieces, it still has one of the biggest libraries of good games
>>10871913>people call that color "green"Are people colorblind? It's so much more yellow than green.
>>10871952peak zoomer post. that's when it's turned off. this is on.notice the yellow border
i never had any of the heavy hitters like zelda, metroid, or pokemon. i had mario land, tetris, baseball, fall of the footclan, bugs bunny crazy castle. probably forgetting one or two. loved it though.
>>10871913I didn't have one growing up so I didn't get to enjoy these games properly until I got my RetroMini five years ago but I enjoyed them a lot
>>10871962Still more yellow than green.
>>10871913As a kid I dropped mine down a crevice from the top of the bleachers during a basketball game at school. Probably a 10 foot drop or so, onto the hardwood floor below. Aside from a few scuffs and scratches, still working great even today. These things were built like tanks. I just wish they were front lit, even with shitty green LEDs it wouldn't have been out of the question since it's a monochrome display.
>>10872330You wish it's front lit until you see the toll that takes on battery life.
>>10872048Where's that goat-horned cowman from?
>>10871952Green is made out of yellow
>>10872330It would be larger and take six batteries while having Game Gear levels of battery life. It would have been suicide for Nintendo.
>>10874264If you haven't seen the inside of a Game Gear, it isn't lit by LEDs. Being a color screen, this would have required white LEDs which did not exist 1990. I'm talking about dimly lighting the front of the DMG's screen with green LEDs. No, it's not going to look good, and yes, it's got to consume some battery power, but we're definitely not talking Game Gear levels of battery life. And you could always turn them off when not needed, to save on power.
>>10874984You do realize the Game Boy was built to be cheap, right? Adding LEDs would jack the price up, yes even green ones. So the price of the Game Boy would go up, and even if only slightly it would also be using the four AA batteries quicker. Batteries were not exactly cheap either, and rechargeable AA's were costly and woefully inefficient compared to modern cells. The Game Boy was not perfect, but the screen and contrast dial were a clever way of making it playable outside of pure darkness.
>>10871913My Game Boy
>>10871913I used to play this game all the time for some reason despite it being annoying
